(Rocket) Why are we logging in on the coast
yorkie065 replied to Siggy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Im finding this thread pretty amusing at how oblivious most people, so i'll be nice and fill you all in with what I know. This server hopping, will happen regardless of what version of DayZ you are running. It's to do with the servers having updated recently to their latest code to track players logins and actions. So how does it work exactly? Whenever you DC/ Alt+F4 during combat, you will be put back to the coast! Excessive logging in and out, put back to the coast! It's monitoring your actions, and then deciding whether or not you are legitimately logging on and off, and punishing you by putting you at the coast if the database thinks you are playing unfairly. All the posts say very much the same thing, and me and another friend have found this ingame too. It's only happened to me once, and thats because I tried logging onto the same server, about 2-3 times without it working. So I tried a different one, and it put me at the coast. A friend of mine had logged during combat the night before when me and a mate got killed, and the next time he came in, he was on the coast. So your wondering how to avoid it yes? 1: Don't log during combat, sure fire way to get you back to the coast. You get caught in a gun fight, hang around the area for about 5-10 minutes then move away a good 500 metres or so and put yourself in a bush and log. I myself got caught in combat last night, and a friend died, me and my other mate hung around the area and managed to kill 1 of the 2 people who shot our mate, the other DC'd. We stayed in the area for about 5 minutes just to make sure, before running over the other side of the field to log out for dinner. Came back in, and was in exactly the same place, both of us. 2: You log into a server and it's laggy. Wait for 10 minutes. The reason it's doing this with legit server hopping, is because you logging in and out or respawning, clogs up the servers back end, making it lag for everyone else. You've all seen the red and yellow chain links right? Some broken, some not. This is because someone, or a few people are logging into the server or re-spawning excessively which clogs up the back end making it lag for everyone else. They've already disabled respawning which is reducing this, the next step is to decrease server hopping to increase server performance for everyone else. This is no bug, it's a test of methods to combat alt+f4'ing and excessive server hopping to make the experience of DayZ better for everyone else. They may take it down, or they'll put a different method in. All I know, is that when you play the game legitimately and think about what your doing in regards to finding a decent server (i.e. go on ones you know are good), then you don't get punished by this system. -
Make sure that before doing this, that your graphical settings for video memory is set to 'Default', and your texture detail set to 'Low'. Also note that when you press 'left shift' + minus on the numpad that no box for typing appears. Just type flush anyway and the screen will go black and reset. Will still need to do it in the latest DayZ patch (1.7.2.5), as the graphical glitches still aren't fixed.

DayZ is a harsh and brutal game. You'll meet a mix of people, from those who are willing to help, to those who will shoot you in the leg so you can't walk, and drag you around and zombies munch on your brains screaming. Comparing whats happened to me, and to you, sounds like you've been unlucky (although I started a couple of months back when there was less people). The best way to avoid players, I find, is don't spend too long down in the large cities. Usually, I go for: a weapon (both primary and side arm, doesn't matter which, as long as it's something), 1 or 2 bits of food, 1 or 2 water (preferably water bottles), 3 bandages, at least 1 morphine and painkillers, a better backpack than the standard and a hunting knife. As soon as I have the majority of that, i'll head inland get the fuck away from the cities. Berezino is a large city, but there is usually few if any survivors there. So you want stuff at the start, it's a good place to go. Top buildings of priority: supermarkets, hospitals, military tents if in cherno or firestation in electro (not the one in the field though next to the powerstation, thats a death trap), large orange or red bricked residential buildings, or diners on the corners of cities. Recognizing which buildings you can get into will come to you over time, and from that, you can over-watch towns inland and way up whether it's worth going in or not.

The tactical significance of sniper rifles, accumulated rebuttals and why they're here to stay
yorkie065 replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ok, so let me raise a few points about this post. The first 2 parts I can answer together; even a sniper, isn't "safe" in their bubble. You know this is a vast open world right? There is NO set direction that a player can approach a certain location from. Therefore, it is not safe! A pair of snipers could be sat in their little hole, providing over watch for their group, or just sat there watching a town and anyone at any time can just walk right up behind them without either side knowing and stumble on their position. And this has actually happened to me and my buddy once, and you know what. We died because of it! If those snipers providing over-watch get taken out, imagine the panic for those in the town looting. Their cover has gone! They have no solid location of the enemy other than they're either in the region of the over-watching team, or else where and counter sniped them. Because you yourself has been on the receiving end of snipers, doesn't mean that events that can occur at the other end of the scale don't happen. They do! And when they do....everyone shits themselves!! Guys no longer have cover! They no longer have information about other plays coming in or out, player positions or zombie positions that may be a threat. As for the tactical aspect; you give the impression you have little tactical knowledge. Even without sniper rifles being there, either I myself, or a couple of my mates will be assigned to stay back and do the snipers job with a winchester or AK. They may not have the range, but they still have the information and knowledge that others down in the city do not. Remember, knowledge is the most powerful weapon in the game. Theres no point having a gun, and not knowing where a players position is. Your hopeless and have very few options and chance or survival. Where-as knowing where a player is, with no weapon has greater chance of survial and more options. The way I play DayZ is the way I would act if I was in the world myself with my friends. Using tactics, and thinking about what your going to do before going into a town and doing it, is by far more effective than just doing it all on the fly. About 80% of my kills on other players, have been due to those who i've killed showing and using very little to no tactical awareness. The other 20% have either been them getting the drop on me and me killing them before they get me, or them just getting unlucky and me and my team coming across them. If you play like each life is your last, you and your group are going to have a much better chance of surviving than hauling ass around the place trying to get quick loot. -
ArmA III(DayZ stand alone) engine improvements
yorkie065 replied to Charles Darwin (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is pretty much void as performance is also server dependant. My PC isn't great, about 3-4 years old except the graphics card which is about 1-2 years old, and on a server that has just been restarted, I get 30-50 frames with everything on lowest/ off. On a busy server, thats been running for a long time, littered with dead bodies, zombies, loot, vehicles and tents, I can get FPS as low as 10-20 in certain areas. -
Failure to communicate=paranoid deathmatch
yorkie065 replied to FrankDaTank1218 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like your ideas, as more ways to communicate would help, but still some people will just shoot you for the hell of it. For example I spawned fresh after getting killed in Cherno, and spawned at the Balota airfield. I headed there and soon heard gun shots. I ran through the town to get to the airfield and gathered a few zeds who I knew I could get rid of in the air traffic control tower, so just kept going with them trailing me. Hearing a few more shots as I got closer, I ran around the left side of the ATCT and headed for the entrance when I saw 3 guys inside in the doorway looking out. 1 was in camo, another ghillie and 3rd I could only see the legs of. At a glance they looked like they had decent weapons. With the zombies behind me, I said over direct comms that I'll lead them away, so I ran past and disappeared into the hangars with the zeds still in pursuit. I eventually managed to loose them and moved out the hangars to try and establish comms with the guys I saw in the ATCT. I saw one up on the roof so I stopped and called out to him. "Hey, hey dude?" He turned around and looked at me, when a second appeared and set next to him. "Im friendly, im not gana do anything...you cool?" They sat and starred at me for about 10secs, I was crouched and had nothing on me. I kinda decided that it would be best to leave, but was intrigued as to whether or not they'd let me join them, so I waited for a little bit before talking again. "I can leave if you want..?" About a second after I said that, they shot and killed me. The only time you can really risk talking to others is if you have no weapons. Im hoping more ways to communicate will tone down the amount of SOS but I doubt many people will change their current ways. -
So Should I Buy ArmA II: CO for DayZ or should I wait for the standalone?
yorkie065 replied to InfectedRamo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I believe, or at least im thinking, it's going to be on the same engine as the current one. It's Bohemia themselves who are making it with Rocket as the project lead making all the decisions, so im guessing it will be the current engine with some cross over with features from Arma 3 when it comes. Also the current alpha will be running alongside and getting updates from the standalone. We may have to end up paying a small initial payment at some stage (wouldn't mind donating tbh if current users get it free) which will hopefully cross over. Theres no clear info saying yes or no as to whether you can play with your friends if they get standalone. I imagine they will, otherwise there will be a big split in the community. I'd get Arma II: CO now, then if you like it enough, get a second account using the standalone :) That way you can have one for actually trying to do stuff on, the other for pissing around and not being bothered as to whether or not you get killed. -
So Should I Buy ArmA II: CO for DayZ or should I wait for the standalone?
yorkie065 replied to InfectedRamo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Think about it this way. You can currently get Arma II: CO off the Bohemia site for £20 (and a version linked to steam for the same price). With that, your getting Arma II, Arma II: Operation Arrowhead and DayZ in it's alpha state with constant updates. That effectively 3 games. If you wait for the stand-a-lone, you'll only get DayZ. Now I doubt it's going to be £20 when they release the first iteration of the stand-a-lone, but you won't be getting Arma II and Arma II: OA. If I were you, i'd get it now and get all 3! Arma II: CO is good in itself, and was actually a nice week or so break from DayZ. Not to mention the amount of mods for arma, and the stuff you can do yourself with the editor and what not. -
I hope you aren't throwing coins at the screen.... But on topic....loving it!! I honestly can't wait, and I think the minecraft business model would be perfect for DayZ! Rocket really has got his mind in the right place, he's pushing forward in the right direction and I really hope other developers start taking notes! Top stuff!! :D
-
You not realise that what you've just quoted here is exactly what DayZ is!?!? Good for you! I just hope that when you do decide to join the rest of us rather than hiding away under your bed sheets, that you get dicked on left right and centre with lack of experience in coming across other players. And when that happens, don't come crying to the forums.

Dear OP Let me state this for you, you moron: Beta Beta is feature and asset complete version of the game, when only bugs are being fixed. This version contains no bugs that prevent the game from being shippable. No changes are made to the game features, assets, or code. Beta occurs two to three months before code release. That quote is taken directly from wiki page for video game development: http://en.wikipedia....ame_development DayZ is quite away off Beta at the moment. Rocket has a lot up his sleeve that he wants to implement into DayZ. Much Love A Level Designer working in the games industry.

Search 'DayZ Mobile'. It's basically the DayZ wiki put onto your phone, very useful. Has info about all the weapons, vehicles, equipment, consumables. It has a standard map and a loot map, loot tables. Info on survival (food, water, blood levels etc etc), a server list and the latest released patch notes. It's perfect for what your looking for and it's free!

Weird stuff happening at green mountain
yorkie065 replied to Jaznap's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What goes at green mountain...stays at green mountain!! Many tales have come from that place, all very vague in describing what they saw! You should never talk about green mountain! And don't EVER go back there again!! -

Cowardly players (SoGG Clan.)
yorkie065 replied to Raijinmaru's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Thats how it kinda goes. I died last night from my own stupidity, trying to sneak up on 2-3 ghillies. I had decent gear and wanted to get close behind them to stick some M4A3 rounds in their backs. Got close but one of them who I thought was running off so left them, turned around and shot me. Respawned in Cherno, ran around for about 10mins in cherno and got an Alice pack, food, drink, matches, an AKM with 2 mags, m1911, hunting knife. The only thing I was missing was a hatchet and I could easily just head up north and survive. Soon found that at the southern airfield. All in all, I was mid tier gear within about 20mins of spawning. This game isn't hard, and people cry over dying. Besides, restarting is the best part!! -
Cowardly players (SoGG Clan.)
yorkie065 replied to Raijinmaru's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You won't need to see it. You'll know about it from all the crying on the forums and people asking for rocket to get their character back when they were supposedly killed by hackers. The ones who shoot first and have the jump on you, fire 3 or 4 shotgun slugs at you from about 10 metres, miss, for me to then turn around and put 8 rounds back, 4-5 on target and drop them for them to alt+f4 are the worst! People can't just accept death...they're too weak to! -
You want someone to see a game the way you want them to? Go make a film! A Game should provide a platform and a set of tools to do what they want and play the way they want!! - Yorkie Just to further emphasize my point. Rocket recognizes this, and is fan-fucking-tastic to see him breaking the trend and swimming upstream!!

^This Im only 21, but I do miss the days of sitting down in a single player game, retrying 1 level over and over and over again to beat it. The market is saturated with games that are designed to force the player to play the game the way the designers envisioned it. Cutscene here, cutscene there, QTE here to make sure the player does what the designer imagined them doing, rather than having the freedom of choice and going about completing an objective in unique ways to improve their own experience, and enjoy it the way they want to. And as a level designer, currently working on a game that has these things about, it infuriates me to no end that people think that this is the right way to design games. The success of DayZ has come largely from the fact that it's sat on the opposite end of the scale. It's different. It's harsh. It makes you work for the best gear in the game. You want the best shit? You gotta run around high populated loot spots for 30mins, to then run another 20mins across open fields with nothing to get to a place that is even more dangerous than the first. You get that done, your in for a fucking treat!! I love it! It's what makes me play this every night of the week. Sure you get bored after a while as theres no real end game. What should you do? Go looking for a firefight, try and get yourself killed and start all over again. DayZ throws you in the deep end of the pool with no rubber bands. If you can't learn to swim quickly, you'll drown and struggle. If you pick yourself up and float, boy are you in for a wicked roller coaster ride. If you drown over and over again, try something new and different to previously. Expand your mind, try new things. Don't be focused around what the designers supposedly WANT you to do. It's your game, do what the fuck you want with it!!!! ..........other than hack! don't do that :P

Let me just start by.....HA!! HA HA!!! HAHAHAHAHAH!! AAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHHHHAHAHHAHAHAAA HAAAA!! no! 1.GOOD!! Too many shooters these days are easy. Something thats realistic (and if you did you research, would know that the Arma 2 engine is used as a military simulator) and punishing in the form of firearms is a nice change. It makes you think about your positioning, whether you should fire or not and how visible you are to other players. Im glad, thats theres something where I can be shot down in just a couple of hits. It's makes death even more punishing, and if you learn from it, more rewarding when it happens less often. 2. Clearly haven't found any good loot yet. Get to end game, the feeling of finding and owning an M107 or AS50, with night vis. range finders, compass, map, gps, hatchet, matches and a hunting knife with water bottles is a damn good one. 3. Something different. whilst they're not the best controls, they do take some getting used to. And coming from games like BF3, and playing DayZ for a couple of months and going back to BF3, I wish that it had more controls similar to Arma. It feels too empty and simple. 4. It knocks bad habits out of you...surely thats a good thing? If you can't learn from dying over and over, then perhaps you should take a completely different approach or stop altogether. 5. Agree with you! Hunting knife would be good to use as a melee weapon, and also using fists to push back zombies or push them over. But I do also like the vulnerability of not having any weapons and being chased. 6. See 5. 7. You can. Buildings with windows that are see-through are loot-able, the rest aren't. You soon start to learn which you can and which you can't and from that, you'll start planning and making decisions as to whether small villages are worth going in to loot. 8. Controls are fine, they do what you need them to do. Just a case of learning them over time, and they fit the game. Remember this isn't no ordinary game, it needs to be able to simulate virtually every scenario and action a man would do on a battlefield. 9. Think less about general logic, and more about reward schedules. Would be too easy to gear up if zombies carried the odd weapon on them. Hell it's even easy now. I can gear myself up to mid-tier and head up north with a good chance of surviving in 20-30mins. 10. Plenty of ways to escape from zombies, comes from trial and error, paying attention to forums with tips and tricks, youtube videos and experience in game. If anything, it's too easy to loose zombies. 11. Hasn't really bothered me, and it adds a nice effect and a sense of relief when you do get yourself healed back up to full health. You may well be a game designer and journalist, but from what you've said, my guess is that you've probably played for no more than 50 hours and haven't seeked any outside knowledge of how to play from others or videos. The game is punishing, and harsh, which is what really appeals to me as it's something different from virtually any game that i've played. It's great to see a game that doesn't hold your hand and show you the way through, as it's not a game trying to appeal to the masses. Arma has a very niche community, it's just expanding due to the income of players coming to DayZ. This game is designed to be different, not your everyday zombie game. Also, just to add before you completely disregard my opinion, im a level designer, also with a degree in computer games design which covered virtually every aspect of game development. The game doesn't need to be changed to be better, it just needs stuff adding to it which Rocket and his team are doing. It's in Alpha, we've got a long way to go! Just sit tight and ride with it.

^ This is the new weapon damage, sound stats and what not. http://dayzdb.com/news/weapon-changes-in-arma2-162 - This a comparison of some weapons with their new damage against they're old. A lot of guns have been nerfed to fuck. It's from an Arma patch. No idea why they nerfed everything. Fortunately I haven't updated further yet as I can still 1 shot with my M1911, doubt I will update now. Such a disappointment to see this!
-
The amount of people crying that the game is too hard, weapons are OP and need nerfing, and general player killing would be through the roof!! The game on console would be nothing like it is on PC. It will be played completely different to how it is on PC, and won't be what you invision it. Not to mention the amount of technical limitations that pretty much EVERYONE who's posted in this thread with some common sense has already said.

OOoooooohhh dear....im sat in the office at work watching this, giggling like a little girl :P Epic....just epic!! :D

whats is your ideal gun setup/gameplay style
yorkie065 replied to resistence1993's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
^ If only this was the case ^ Worst pistol in the game for me, the only thing good about it is the fact it's quiet because of the silencer. Otherwise it's insanely inaccurate making headshots difficult unless they're RIGHT infront of you so you go for the body instead, which does next to no damage (says 3 shots to the body but i've emptied a mag into a zombie to drop (with pauses between shots too)). Plus the ammo isn't all that great. My best setup i've had: M107 L85 (only fired it twice, once to save a mate being hit by a zombie, another at a player who was close. Otherwise it was used as a tool to spot players and zombies). M9 SD or M1911. Map Compass Watch GPS Current Setup at the moment as I died and lost all that wonderful gear, although I lost the L85 from a patch before dying. DMR M4A1 M1911 Compass Map And all the usual bandages, blood bags, water bottles, food, morphine, painkillers and tent. -
Dayz: When did you lose your ideals
yorkie065 replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
Just saw this linked through DayZ Dev twitter and watched it. Amazing video!! Very chilling and it really hits home, relating to experiences im sure we've all had in DayZ. Very well produced, and the acting was top notch. The way he was hesitating and not completing sentences really made it that more emotionally powerful, as if he was recollecting his memory of real life events. It has my beans! -
Can we talk about my fps? Here are my specs
yorkie065 replied to Enfrozt's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Try adjust your graphics settings. I have lower specs than you do, and my setup is currently with screen resolution set to my actual screens resolution, 3D resolution to 100%, then everything else in advanced options is either disabled, off or it's lowest settings. Usually getting about 30-40fps out in the wilderness, large cities it drops down to 18-30fps. If your still getting poor results with 3D resolution at 100%, then drop it down to around 80%. Would do much lower as it makes everything all blurry.
