So rocket, a western city eh?

Personally, I'd like to have a large city in the middle of a map similar to Chernarus. All the larger towns are on the coast, and it would be cool to go inland and find a city probably about 1 5th of the size of Fallujah! That to me would be awesome as it means I have a choice of trekking amongst the landscape, or scrapping in a tightly nit city.
  2. So....what your saying is that as we wander around the server, we should be able to see everyone who has ever been on there lead down, crouched in a bush, stood up where they logged out? That does not seem appealing to me at all. What exactly is your issue with the log out timer? I noticed the combat logging part but people have different perceptions on that anyway. And you do realise how it works exactly? Shots fired within a certain radius 50-75 metres, bullets impacting within 75 metres of the player and you firing/ throwing an object all activate/ reset the timer. If you don't think 30 seconds is long enough? Keep shooting at them, then they're chance of avoiding a combat log is massively decreased. As for the topic at hand.... I agree! Would help prevent people from logging out from zombies, should activate when hit by a zombie at least! I honestly don't get why people log in and out constantly at any sign of threat. They're not having any kind of experience and thrill that the game provides.

    More ambient tracks possible?

Just throw that up on your media player and your sorted......just make sure it's low volume so you can hear everything around you too :P
  4. Sorry if the title got you excited about some inside news, but as this is the suggestions section, this thread is a suggestion for the loot in the standalone. Now rolling back a couple of months, the fear of death for me was extremely high, mainly because I had everything I wanted, I was far up North with my friends, and I had little knowledge of the coast. I tried to move away from there as soon as possible, and get up North to gear up with the goodies the North used to provide. Now obviously, the hacking, duping, and general farming and gear getting transferred from player to player hasn't helped the fact that it's easy to get good gear on the coast, but the transferring would be a natural part of the game. What im trying to propose is a review of where certain loot spawns. Having learnt the game, I can get geared with a good back pack, a primary AR and a secondary, plenty of food, water, bandages, morphine and all the other general essentials anywhere between 10-30 mins depending on where abouts I spawn on the coast. What I think would be great, is more of the better gear to be spawned back up further in-land, and more specific areas for specific loot to be spawned, and im talking cities rather than buildings. Say blood bags and anti-biotics only spawn at the hospital in Berezino, where the other hospitals in the map spawn everything else but them. The idea of having certain items in certain places (like decent weapons only being in the barracks at the NWA) really added to the risk and reward system the game used to have. But now most locations on the map are near enough deserted as everyones getting all they want on the coast. Yes people hate running around the map to get stuff, but it's far more satisfying going through hell and back to get something you desired from a certain area, fight off a number of bandits rather than grab it within 5mins to get shot, and then repeat. It will bring back the old atmosphere, and make death have a significant impact that it once had. The only issue that comes from the fear of death, is the old Alt+F4 trick, but thats being worked on and is in plenty of other topics.
  5. I believe, as 'feeldope' above me said, that it will be in the next couple of months. I think Rocket said October or November are realistic, but don't hold me to it. What im pretty sure though, is that this will be the first version of the standalone. I believe it's following the minecraft model, where it will be updated throughout it's development (with the current DayZ mod as the testing platform before hitting standalone). Obviously with each major update, the price will go up also, just like Minecraft did. So the sooner you get it really, the cheaper it will be.

    Dogs should return home.

Yeh, this is what I was thinking... To add to this though, is that like the OP said, the dog sits and guards your body, and to be friends with it again, you go back to it and feed it before you go to the body. Would also be nice if the dog kept it's level of intelligence. Like if a new player finds a dog thats already been trained, the dog would act and behave how players want without the training.

    How players are made good/bad

What the OP said is exactly what happened with me (the domino effect), but a couple times over. The first thing I did was try and meet up with my RL friends in the game, once we did, we had fun running around chatting to other lone players, trying to get them to join our group. We got shot on the odd occasion and each time, we were more careful and tentative about approaching others than the last as this shoot on sight mentality was growing. Eventually it got to a point where it snapped for us, and this was up in Stary. It was night, and there were 4 of us running around with probably 4 other people on the server. We decided that Stary would be safer at night and made haste through the country hills to reach it. As it was night time and we were relatively new, we were carrying a flare on one guy, running with it lit. We got to Stary and were hanging around in the open by the tower with the golf ball on top when my buddy next to me took a couple of rounds, dropping the flare. The other 3 of us ran inside the huge red metal shack and threw up a flare for light. We spent the next 10mins or so in there, talking over global chat to this guy asking why he killed our friend who was now sprinting his way back up. He had no reason, there was nothing valid that made him decide to shoot us, other than we were a potential threat. But we didn't even know he was there, we had only just arrived in the town. Eventually we said that we'll leave him be, and bugger off somewhere else. But knowing we couldn't trust him fully, we decided to do it and run when the flare went out to try and mask our escape. Sure enough, the flare died down and we ran out the back of the building and into the fields to the East of Stary. All the while, under gunfire from this one guy. We had no clue where he was, we were to busy trying to save our own asses and get the hell out. The entire time we had been telling this guy that we were friendly and weren't going to shoot him, yet he still shot at us when he had the opportunity. This huge distrust and all the times before when we had been shot lead me and my group down into the same pool. Shoot-on-sight. After months of playing, thats been reeled in a bit. Now, if we see anyone, we'll try and watch them for as long as possible to see what type of player they are, and then decide to either kill them (usually if they have better gear), or leave them be (mostly noobs or anyone running away from us). And of course, new spawn means time to make friends where-ever possible.
  8. Kinda sounds like a bit of both. The higher zombie count, and faster respawn rate are a good thing, it makes the zombies more dangerous and overcoming the threat can be difficult when you don't have the right tools. The glitching through walls has always been there, don't know about through ceilings. But the added numbers of zombies would have just increased how often it happens and there-fore makes it more noticeable. Otherwise the last patch seems like a good stable one.
  9. I like the OP's post, can see where he's coming from and it does relate heavily to the current meta of DayZ, but here is my reasons why i've argued for a different game. It goes back to when the player base was much much smaller than it is now...like, 1,000,000 less! I started out back then with some mates and DayZ was something that is different to today. Back then, yes you did have those who was shot on sight and have the mentality of the current game, but there was a lot fewer, and there was one BIG difference to today. And that was everyone who played like that, were up North and in the centre of the map! Bandits would go around in groups and look for fire-fights, which is something that I did myself with my friends when we had the gear. This, is what made DayZ great! The North was a place where the experienced players were, and the coast was for the new players. They hung around in the major cities, helping each other out until they had the gear and experience to move inland. Now however, those bandits who used to be fighting in the fields of Stary and the airfields are forced to fight on the coast because of the new players who like to sit on the hills of Electro and Cherno. These cities, were A MUST avoid back in the old days, but those who risked it and survived got decent gear to make the journey up. The problem I have is that all the fighting is on the coast! If it was inland, like it was before, the game would be more survival-esk and there could be the possibility of less people who shot on sight. The game felt very different back then to how it does now. And yes, we should all be accepting of change, but that change needs to be positive. Not one that makes the game less enjoyable and only utilizes small spots of the map. 9 times out of 10 visits to the North West Airfield have been drama free, and quite boring. That place used to be a death trap, but the gear you could get made it worth it and for some interesting experiences.

    Gaming headsets, Surround sound?

Don't go for surround sound headsets....it's a gimic! The number of speakers in each cup, confined to such a small space ruins sound quality. I personally have a set of Sennheiser HD558's headphones with a Desk Mic. Extremely good sound quality, nice heavy kicking base, but very good and clear high frequency sound, so I use them for everything! You'll hear things in songs that you never knew were there before and they put a smile across my face each time I put on some heavy music. They're comfey as hell too as they're over the ear and open backed! I used to wear them at work for 8 hours a day listening to music whilst working, and then a further 4-6 hours gaming in the evening, on a daily basis and my ears didn't get too hot 'n sweaty. The only thing that could be a downside is that they're open backed, meaning they leak a little noise going out, but it does help to keep your ears cool, or others in the house wanting your attention. I'd definitely recommend them, and they do have a headset version (Sennheiser PC360) which is pretty much exactly the same but with a mic attached. They are a £110-130 depending on which of the two you go for, but honestly they're worth every penny! Edit: With the headset/ headphones above, I've been able to pin point firing positions with ease, and sound whore when needed in DayZ and multiple other games. You can even hear 50.cal snipers firing in the distance at about 800 metres+ if there is little other sound and your listening out for them.

Should we remove barbed wire in the next update

Yes Until there is a fix, then bring them back in.

great brand new idea for dayz

No, with this logic, all those who like to drive cars fast and brag about it should record themselves doing exactly that and publish it online? The reasons why those videos are online is because those who do that sorta thing saw DayZ through others legit videos, played the game, didn't like it's play style so they twisted it to suit their needs by killing people and only that and then posting videos online. This game was 100x better months ago when there were less than 200,000 players as those who were playing, all had the same thing in mind. Survive and survive alongside each other!! Yes there were people who killed other players, but those against it teamed up to hunt them down and give them a taste of their own medicine, and then going back to surviving alongside each other. Now, because theres so many people who just kill for no reason, those who used to group up to go against them, can't do it as they can't trust ANYONE they come across. Online games aren't ruined by the developers, they're ruined by the community that surrounds it! All the interesting experiences in DayZ come from those moments when you don't shoot and kill someone. Killing is not a way of life!! Don't try come up with half assed ideas that promote it

    Animals should be more elusive

I've found this also. Times when im up North without a blood bag or friends to help and been in need of more blood, I go looking for animals....but I never seem to find any. But every other time, I see what the OP is on about. I think the inclusion of more animals, and also animals that are threatening to players needs to come alongside it. The post above mine by Dr Cheese is also a good one! Like the idea of certain animals being in certain areas and also certain times of the day!
  14. As for the idea in general, I do like it. But as the guy said in the post i've quoted, it does need to be more complicated. I like the idea of a slight reduction in damage (does need to be very small) and it stopping the bleeding when hit in the areas of armour. That would be very cool. As for hats, standard military helmets (should still be a 1 shot kill if hit in the head with a helmet), military hats (http://static.ddmcdn.com/gif/sniper2.jpg like these), caps that are already in the game, farmer hats and numerous others that you can use just a customizaton feature. Could also do something in the sense that different hats help to keep your temperature up as I'd like the idea of having different clothing (hoodies and t-shirts) that affect your body temperature in certain weather conditions too.

great brand new idea for dayz

Your right, your not a CoD kid, because if you were...you'd know that "your idea" in this thread has already been done in Black Ops. Games don't need to have sequals to be good... Your right, they're not....they're more! And growing!! Consoles are 7 years old now. They're heavily outdated and people with the money and desire to keep up to date are making the switch to PC gaming looking for new experiences. No I don't agree! Minecraft is a big hit! Not FPS! WoW is a big hit! Not FPS! Guild Wars 2 is becoming a big hit! Not FPS! I understand why "your last thread" you were accused of being a troll, because that is exactly what your doing! The idea is terrible because 90% of the time, the best and most tense part of getting a kill in the game is not the shot itself...it's the time leading up to it! Take one of sacriels videos for example. It's approx a 50min video of them watching, moving into position, flanking and taking out 2 guys! And it's one of the best videos there!! Don't come into a set of forums suggesting crap to a game you've never played! It doesn't benefit you, and it certainly doesn't benefit the community. If theres nothing else you can do better with your time other than troll people then......well good fucking luck in life mate! Your gana need it!! Edit: P.s. Please look up the definition of sarcasm...all the posts "agreeing" with your idea, are exactly that!

Calling for MASS HIVE WIPE <---|

If they are to ever do it, it needs to be when the first iteration of standalone gets released! And obviously do it for the standalone. Back when I first started playing, those were the best times, as half decent gear, and rare gear were very rare!! Now, you have a million players, picking up weapons, being killed, someone else picking up that weapon as another one gets found and eventually you can have everyone in one server (if they were to stick to it and play legit), kitted out with the best gear in the game. This is without server hopping to farm loot and all the hacking. Getting rid of everything thats been placed on the map; tents, vehicles, traps, barbed wire, sandbags so it's all completely clean. Wiping all players characters and going in fresh for standalone will bring soo much back to the game. Also think the spawns need tweaking a bit, all too common to find half decent AR's at balota airfield when they should be further up north and less common.

    Crowbar uses?

Nice idea! The quoted part I particularly like! Rather than having guns just on the floor of heli crash sites all the time (have them only appear on the floor in like 1 in 5 times), have a crate that as you said have to break into to get the weapons. Actually make the crowbar have some sort of practical use, and those who don't have them, can't get to the decent loot!

    DayZ at GamesCom

Because your going to hear it from Rocket, every word he says. It's not going to be miss-interpretated and mutated to something better or worse than what he meant, it's going to be YOU who gains the information straight from the hourses mouth. And you make it sound like it should be mandatory for everything to be on here, like it's his fucking job to put everything he said word for word onto the forums just so you don't have to press as many button and mouse clicks. He's providing information that he wants to provide to numerous different people, all asking different questions, they then publish that interview online, not rocket. Just get off your lazy ass and look around, if you support the mod that much, you should already be doing that by going to one of many sources, and not crying when info is only posted in one place, and not all. It's the internet dude, information on anything you want is just a couple of clicks away....don't be lazy about it!

    DayZ at GamesCom

^Couldn't have said it better myself. A lot of people don't seem to realise that there are other ways of getting news and information outside of these forums. All the latest information that you all wana know about DayZ, it's development and a rough idea of what to expect from the standalone, is in the dozens of interviews that Rocket did over the course of the event. People not think to go look it all up?!?
  20. Agreed! You can hit people at 600 metres in-game too. Just gotta adjust a lot and have quite a lot of patience. Also good luck actually killing, as the damage drops off rapidly after 300 metres.

    Hotfix Build 1.7.2.5 Rolling Update

Like I said in my post, look at the stuff from Gamescom! That is there communication so far. Just because it's not on the forums doesn't mean that it's not official. The forums IS NOT the only way to communicate with the public. There are a ton of devs that post nothing, for months! Also Rocket has said it himself countless times, he's not going to say anything about any new features until they are confirmed ready for the patch. I'd much rather be left in the dark for a couple of weeks, than the devs to say a load of cool features that they want in the next patch and us all to get hyped about, for 90% of them to be cancelled and not make it into the patch. If theres nothing to announce, they're not going to announce anything! Your just adding unnecessary pressure to get something done, which could result it being done half assed, and ruining the mod.

    Hotfix Build 1.7.2.5 Rolling Update

You expecting an update everyday or something? Updates aren't always necessarily posted on the site right away. Look at other sources! DayZ Reddit, the dev teams twitter. Also if you haven't noticed, gamescom has just been and gone. They would have been prepping for that days before the event, and obviously there during the event! Look at interviews from the event, theres your updates! It sounds like everyone expects dev teams to be sat in offices 24/7, doing nothing but work. Well believe it or not, developers have lives. And more often than probably most other office jobs, they spend a fair bit of it relaxing and un-winding. Game development is no easy business, it's one of the most stressful office jobs out there that often require long hours to get a job done, tough decisions to make and also constantly working to deadlines. It's not a walk in the park! Plus, not everything they do can be published to the world everyday. Just keep calm and be patient, an announcement of an update will come when it's ready.

    I hate you rocket

^ you missed a 'Waaaaa' at the end dude :P Honestly, OP is a little bit stupid for not thinking that he won't die to numerous glitches throughout an Alpha test. Whats even worse, is he hasn't reported any of the glitches to the devs either, and/ or provided feedback about said glitches. Instead he's come to make a useless post about how things aren't quite going his way.
  24. yorkie065

    Low FPS

This for a start!! But I don't want to jump on that topic... Your CPU isn't great. Arma is a very CPU intensive game, rather than GPU, so thats one area thats going to hold you back. The other is your connection. If your connections crap, and can't handle a bunch of data coming through at once, then your going to struggle for performance. However, like the two posts above, the GPU won't exactly help. Basically the way that I have myself setup for max performance is have my screen resolution set to the actual resolution of the screen, 3D resolution set to 100% (this will fix the blurriness of the game), and then have everything else on the lowest settings or off. Although I leave video memory on default for fixing the graphics glitches. Putting your 3D resolution will put your graphics preset to 'High', but just go into the advanced and put everything else down. Do also however note that the amount of players, zombies and general crap like loot, dead bodies (both player and zombies) and any barbed wire or traps, will lower your performance. Servers that have just been reset, and had all this stuff wiped will run a lot better than ones that have been full for a good 10 hours plus.
  25. Well yes, it will be an assumption as I only read the first 3 pages of the thread. Im currently at work and therefore don't/ didn't have time to read through all 13 pages. And I chose to ignore the legitimate reasons as they've been mentioned numerous times. I myself log in and out when going for a lengthy of period of time, to either the toilet or to cook food and what not. Yet this has not happened to me yet. As for my "assumption" on the tracking of logging in and out; http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/42806-pending-update-build-1724/page__hl__%20tracking%20%20logins have a read my friend. As you may note that in the list, there is a line in the changelog stating: [New] Hive now tracks login/logout (to assist in the analysis for an ALT+F4 solution). There are also numerous interviews that Rocket was in on youtube, where he further talked about this change and the plans that he has once he has all the data. My post was intended to give an outline of what is happening, and what it is trying to prevent. Sorry if it didn't quite come out that way, but what is the point in talking about the legit reasons constantly, when theres very little attention to why this sort of thing is happening and what it's trying to prevent. Just a shame that 90% of the issues won't, can't or are very hard to fix until the game goes standalone.
