I did love my bus, but I have no need or use for one, I am a lone survivor so having a bus makes me a massive target, and it's hardly a safe way to get around. I headed back up north from the firestation to my domain, which is just the wilderness.. I hope someone who had the time and need for a bus found mine and repaired it. For me though, it was tempting... but I like to be silent and I stay in the shadows usually, hence why I am still alive. If I find a car, atv or bike, I'd probably keep it. A bus though... the only thing I could think of using it for would be to set up my own bus company and to travel around chernarus. Like I experienced there, I enjoyed that, but it was well outside of my usual play style, I never go back to Elektro or Cherno after initial spawn looting runs to get basics. And I wanted to do something mental that had a good chance of killing me. That bus... It did something to me, I started west of the N/W airfield, deep in the wilderness and drove it to not only the coast, but the two biggest and most dangerous cities on the map. If I find another bus, I may attempt to set up a bus company with player support across a few servers, get a gang of bus drivers together.

I'm hoping a 10 second disconnect timer gets introduced, so you stay still for 10 seconds before disconnecting, if interrupted by being hit, it cancels the disconnect (and by moving, you can also cancel the disconnect in those 10 seconds). That would offer some help to stop people doing it in those sorts of situations or in the heat of battle, since any normal disconnect is done somewhere safe. Only downside is it could piss some people off who get a power cut or something, but... that can't be prevented.

Faith in the community restored!! .........well, almost
freak367 replied to fearz0r's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That would have been awesome to be a part of. But I feel sorry for all of the guys who had all of that great gear, and put trust that other players for that one tool to throw a grenade. People like that make others not trust anyone else -__- Still, great to see so many people willing to meet up without turning the church into a clusterfuck. -
Wow, the barracks are lame--NO THEY'RE AWESOME
freak367 replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sounds like just pure bad luck, crippled by server hoppers. I have done 2 solo looting runs of the NW Airfield on my current life (on 20 - 30 player servers), both times the Barracks and Hangers yeilded good loot, lots of AK rifles, smgs, shotguns, and plenty of ammo for all kinds of guns. Still, you wouldn't have liked to have been in my situation when I first approached the Barracks, I alerted some zombies when hugging the barracks wall and 5 zombies came out of the barracks, I gunned them down at the door and another 6 or so were running at me from outside, so I ran into the barracks to funnel them and there was another 5 zombies in the Barracks coming out of the small rooms, leaving me to about an inch, the room needed to sprint past them to the end of the barracks, where I proceeded to use 2 full mags of my Bizon SD just to get the situation under control. It was one of the worst situations I have been in. Second time which was only yesterday didn't go too smoothly either with groups of zombies literally spawning next to me, I could see them spawning when I turned around, for my entire time in the NW Airfield, spawns need to be controlled a bit better, it got hairy at times. Anyways, I hope you escape your barracks of doom. -
Opinions on Zombie Hearing and Aggro in 1.7.2.4
freak367 replied to HollowDizzi's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I became a pretty good judge of how not to be detected, so I was able to mostly jog everywhere without alerting zombies, always keeping an eye on how much sound I'm making but mainly ignoring how visible I am. After the patch though, I seem to be able to alert zombies at random from the sort of range where even a gunshot wouldn't be heard, I just see this dot in the distance sprinting at me when I am making 0 or 1 bar of sound, but quite visible. Sort of throws my playstyle off a bit, I'm so used to getting around quickly outside of hearing distance, which lets me navigate towns and cities safely, but now I can stand up and alert a zombie who is 500 yards away. Not always, but I played for about 2 hours today and it happened roughly 6 times from those sorts of distances, and a few more times nearby when making no noise. I think the eyesight has been improved a lot, not sure about the hearing though, I was well outside of hearing distances and I got aggro. -
Took a little time off DayZ but went back on today, I decided to do another run of the N/W Airfield even though I was fairly well kitted out, the place was packed with zombies and I ended up using 5 smoke grenades in total at different locations of the airfield to lure zombies away from places of interest, and I still ended up needing to kill about 30 zombies, mainly due to my lack of patience, I prefer to jog around the hangers to get in and out, but I figured I would pick up new weapons so I didn't mind using my Revolver ammo. Before the hangers though I checked out the Barracks, which was an AK-fest, loads of them, so I picked up an AK-74 with 2 mags and threw my MP5 in my backpack still with about 5 mags after picking up more, I checked out all of the hangers and found more AK ammo, (So I dropped the MP5 and ammo), and I came across a G17 with 2 mags, and I only had 2 mags left for my Revolver... so I switched, then remembered seeing G17 ammo in the other hangers which I had already checked and in the barracks... So I backtracked picking up G17 ammo, killing more zombies. There was a few hairy moments when I managed to get about 7 zombies onto me, and I took some hits, but it was ok. Throughout I was having bad graphical errors... the entire sky and buildings distorting when looking in certain directions, making it hard to see anything, sometimes all I could see was a bright white spiky mess infront of me, unable to see zombies or buildings, so annoying, that caused me to take about 5 hits at one point, but I escaped. So now I have an AK-74 with 6 mags and a G17 with 8 mags. There was actually a PDW in the Barracks, but I had no idea how versatile it was with regard to the different ammunition it takes, I could have had a PDW with 8 G17 mags :(, ah well. The G17 is still pretty sweet. Other than weapons, I managed to recoup about 2 smoke grenades and some bandages, but there wasn't much else. Still no Ghillie suit :( So I headed back out North/West from there, then South/West, killed a sheep, got some steaks, cooked them and filled my blood back up to 12,000 and stocked some cooked meat away in my backpack. Then my Dad rang me so I awkwardly got to somewhere safe while on the phone and disconnected to talk to him, since DayZ requires 100% concentration. Then I went to the shop and bought some cheese and an energy drink. My life isn't as fun as DayZ. So my plan is still to find a Ghillie suit, I think I need to go to more residential areas to find one, I'm still not that familiar with the map though so I don't really know where I am going, on my 30th day now :D.

I'm hoping eventually, sooner than later, a feature is added so if you walk up to an animal, you will have the scroll option to silently kill it, just a simple pull knife out, slash and put knife back animation would suffice, it sucks needing to use ammo to kill animals, potentially giving your position away, or dropping your primary to use the axe. Either that, or add the feature that everyone wants, allow the axe to be equipped without taking up the primary slot, or let your primary be thrown on your back when holding the axe without taking up backpack space, it's so awkward switching to the axe to silently kill animals or zombies. Then with that <--- the Knife can go untouched. However, even with that, the Hunting Knife should still be a weapon in my opinion, could even be a quick time slash weapon, click a button, slash animation, 2000 damage, but with very limited range. I can imagine people are sick of that though from CoD and other shooters.

Can't you just shoot them in the head?
freak367 replied to Obsolescence's topic in New Player Discussion
I'm not against the changes, as such, but it would be nice if the damage differed between guns a bit more, I mean 8 weapons all do 889 damage :/, seems like a bit of a cheap way to do it. Say with sidearms, I'd have the damage something like, Makarov (880), PDW (920) G17 (1180) M9 (1350), M1911 (2400) Revolver (2700) Revolver should definately be the most powerful though, but also extremely loud. -
Well, currently I am on my longest life, been playing for a good few days with one life, started by doing a couple of looting runs of Berezino picking up an ALICE pack, every tool apart from GPS, about 5 drinks, 5 tins of food, a double barrel shotgun and makarov with lots of ammo, and plenty of medical supplies, bandages, painkillers and morphine mainly, oh and about 3 smoke grenades. So I could survive in the forest, I went up north, found a heli crash, picked up a Bizon SD with 3 mags, explored more up north/west, came across some town I know nothing about, found a Revolver and managed to pick up 7 mags for it., kept exploring, killed a sheep and got 5 steaks, cooked them, so now I have even more food which also doubles as quick healing. Then I stumbled across the N/W International Airfield, where I picked up a military flashlight? (no idea of the difference). Ran out of ammo for my Bizon SD so I picked up an MP5A5 with 4 mags, refilled food and water stocks, picked up another couple of smoke grenades and bits and bobs, then moved more up north/west. And my quest now, is to find a Ghillie Suit, that is my plan. I want one so bad, I want to extend this life for as long as possible, and a Ghillie Suit will give me great cover. I must hunt one down. Apart from that, I'm just going to keep up north/west, might do another run of the NW Airfield even though it is dangerous as hell, and just keep hitting local towns whenever I need supplies which is rarely to be honest. Hoping eventually I might stumble across a vacant camp site left by a group of players, replace my weapons with better ones, fill up an ATV and be like the Mad Max of Chenarus. And if that ever happens, and I ever get bored, I might just drive through Cherno on a 60 player server and take on the entire city.
-
So I've been alive for quite a while now and have a lot of gear, including enough food, water and cooked meat to survive for a long time in the wilderness. I was randomly travelling North/West and I stumbled upon the NW International Airfield. (had no idea where I was going) Now this thing has just been a myth to me since I have never seen it in person, so I had to check it out, and thankfully I was alone, I looted left to right and I came to the Barracks where I tried to sneak around the wall, but I got too close. 4 zombies came out of the door, I mowed them down with my Bizon SD but several more around me got alerted, so I had the amazing idea to use the Barracks to funnel them, I sprinted inside to find 6 more zombies just appearing inside of the little rooms, and about 5 more coming in from outside. Crouched at the far end and unloaded my Bizon SD on them, I won, but wondered if that's average for Barracks? The Barracks themselves had an M16A2 and M1014 with plenty of ammo and a few other reasonable things. Are Barracks the most zombie heavy buildings?, looting the Fire Station and 6 remaining hangers I came across maybe 5 Zombies which were easily avoidable. I ask because I might do another run through of the Airfield at a later date to see what I can pick up.

Are Barracks always packed with Zombies?
freak367 replied to freak367's topic in New Player Discussion
Oh wow, I guess I was really unlucky in that case o_0, as I ran in 6 zombies were just in the door ways of the small rooms walking/crawling out, literally leaving me JUST the right amount of space and time to get to the opposite end to make my stand, since there was no turning back with 5 more at the door. It was a situation I got under control, but it only took one of them to be in that narrow corridor to stop me in my tracks, then I'd have been screwed. With the zombies I lured out and killed at the door though, it means there would have been 10 zombies in the Barracks initially before I alerted them. That seems pretty excessive... Either way, this is telling you that it is possible, even if rare, be more careful around them, thankfully the Bizon I had has 64 round mags, so I had plenty of ammo to sort them out, when I first turned and faced them though, picture the narrow barracks corridor with 11 zombies in it, the closest being about 3 feet from me, for the first 6 zombies or so, I didn't get the opportunity to pick headshots, I had to just mow them down, which burns through ammo. -
Are Barracks always packed with Zombies?
freak367 replied to freak367's topic in New Player Discussion
Oh I really was, I had a very stealthy approach, constantly on guard for other players, not that the Bizon SD could do much to other players mind. Awesome zombie killer though. The Barracks had the highest concentration of zombies I had ever seen, in and around it, all military too. One of the few full on hordes I have taken on. I guess I was unlucky if that isn't the average experience. I have about 5 smoke grenades so if I do another run I'll see what I can lure away. -

When I first started I assumed blood would regenerate slowly while playing, along with having ways to instantly gain blood with food etc... it just made sense. Not much, just something like 100 blood every 10 - 15 minutes playing or so. If it also regenerated while not playing, maybe 100 blood every hour while offline. (could be anything really) Because ones body does produce blood, otherwise with all of the cuts and scrapes I have had in my life, I'd probably be dead by now. That would go towards helping lone survivors, although the life expectancy is 31 minutes... so probably not for those guys. I agree with more ways for lone survivors to recover blood. Also, I think uncooked meat should be consumable, I died once from hunger because I had no tinned food, but I had about 6 uncooked steaks which I couldn't eat. -_-, they should recover 400 blood and fill up maybe 50% of your hunger meter. Hell, raw meat should recover MORE blood, cooking generally causes meat to lose vitamins, crucial enzymes and other good things that raw meat offers. In real life anyways.

I finally took the advice of others, got geared up in a city, then buggered off up north/west. While doing so I came across a helicopter crash site, after scoping the area out it looked safe so I went over, popped a few zombies and had a look at the treasures around it. I had a choice of primary weapons. FN FAL with 1 mag. Bizon PP-19 SD with 3 mags AKM with 6 mags I didn't know what to do... I hear people saying the FN FAL is overrated, and I didn't know how far I could go with a single mag of it, and the AKM isn't that rare but did have 6 mags... I ended up choosing the Bizon PP-19 SD, with 3 mags = 192 bullets. Tried it out on a few zombies, thing is silent as anything, and I have a choice between semi and auto which is nice. In your opinion, did I make the right choice?, I'm fairly happy with the Bizon, and I plan on not really wasting anymore ammo on zombies unless I desperately need to, I'll keep it so if I come across other survivors, I have something I can throw into full auto and defend myself with, lets me be very stealthy too. Even though it may not be that powerful. This is the first time I have really come across high tier weapons.
-
Hmmm, I did have an ALICE pack, probably could have made room for the FN FAL. Ah well. The Bizon is nice, I was replacing a Double-Barrel Shotgun, so even the AKM would have been a huge improvement. Still got a Makarov though, but I have 7 mags for it and I doubt I will ever run out of ammo since it is so plentiful. That's what I tend to use to take out zombies, just headshot them all. If I can find any other sidearm though with a couple of mags I'll probably take it. So at the moment I don't have much in the way of player-stopping power. Zombies are screwed though if I ever mess up and alert them. I'm horrible at reading the map too, so I have no idea where I am, the only places I can point out are Berezino, Elektro and Cherno, which aren't of much concern for me now. Although, not to far from where I am now, I seen a massive chimney which looked like it was almost going into the clouds and had lots of steam pouring out of it. Or it seemed so. I'm in a warehouse in the middle of nowhere now before I exited to come here.

Never tried, I have tried to try, but I couldn't figure out how to throw them, I was trying to equip them like you do flares, smoke grenades etc... is there a certain way to throw bottles and cans?

As a new player, This mod is so difficult its un-playable.
freak367 replied to HamHamm's topic in New Player Discussion
Keep trying, when first starting and getting used to the range of each level of noise, (1, 2, 3 bar etc...) it's best to just sneak everywhere, be over-cautious. Out in the open like on the beach, large grassy fields or up in the forest, sprinting is fine, but as soon as you see/approach any sort of building, crouch run, as soon as you see a zombie, walk/crouch walk and keep your distance. Don't be afraid to go prone if you feel like you need to. Zombie hearing is good, but eyesight bad, so you only really need to focus on the noise you make. But going right against a wall can bring how much you're seen down to 0 bar. So when crouching/prone against a wall, they can more or less walk right up and past you without detecting you. Also, sprinting on roads makes huge noise... never do it. When crossing roads near towns or cities, walk over them, sprinting over a road is like shooting a gun, when I first started I treated roads and rock/concrete like grass and moved quickly across them, I got so much aggro from zombies who were seemingly nowhere near me. In my experience, towns rarely yield good loot. With the majority of buildings not being enterable, and the few that are having low yield loot, you're lucky if you find a can of soda, and unless the town has hardly any zombies, I find it isn't worth the risk*. *Unless... you are very low on food and/or water, then you might be lucky. Barns are a great place to start, find barns, sneak inside and they are great places for loot, sometimes I go into a barn to find 3 primary weapons with ammo. Usually I have a choice going into a barn. And lots of generic loot is there. From memory... there must be 5 - 8 loot spawns inside of barns. Good place to go when new. As are hunting stands if the zombie guards have wandered off somewhere. Warehouses and gas stations can be very useful. Or if you want to try... and get a good fast start, if you know where to go, hit Berezino, Elektro or Cherno, you need to be quiet and fast though. Get in and out of everywhere looting for everything you need. Cities are high threat places, much more likely to find other survivors. I hit Berezino which is a smaller city, but packed with good loot, across 2 looting runs, I found myself a Makarov with 7 mags (good for killing zombies, ammo is plentiful), and a Shotgun with again plenty of ammo. An ALICE pack, tent, hatchet, hunting knife, watch, compass, map, matches, binoculars, plenty of bandages, painkillers and morphine. 4 Smoke grenades, and I packed away about 5 Soda and 5 Cans of food. And still consumed food while in Berezino to get my blood back to 12,000 before I left. The only problem is some apartment buildings may have zombies inside, so be careful... Oh, and if you do aggro some zombies in a town or city, and you have a weapon of some kind, run into a building, they are forced to walk, makes them much easier to kill, you can just headshot them all fairly easily, or even take out a horde with just a hatchet. Which is one hell of a job out in the open when they are sprinting towards you. Keep at it, eventually managing your noise becomes natural, you can move through towns and cities easily without getting any aggro. Oh, and be careful with other survivors, I have only met about 5 who have been friendly, and about 30 who have shot me in the face instantly. Avoid them if possible. And I still think fresh spawns should get a melee weapon, or be able to use themselves as a weapon, (kicking zombies away for example). It can be very harsh to newcomers. -
I often use it to just get out of an inevitable death situation, like when a zombie sprints into me and breaks my legs in the middle of nowhere. I'm screwed then without morphine, which often requires a city visit to acquire. Or when I'm prone and I turn and break my legs on a nearby object, or when walking through a door and my legs break... Or if I'm on low blood and bleeding out without a bandage and nowhere near a town or city, or when I'm unarmed and I manage to alert a huge horde of zombies. Or in these sorts of situations, [attachment=1615] With no ammo, broken legs, in a barn full of zombies. Respawn should stay, the game is pretty unforgiving, and it gives people a way out to start fresh. Instead of making people just run into a group of zombies to die. Even when all of the bugs are gone (unlikely since the ArmA 2 engine is a mess), and the game is smoothed out, it will still be a very unforgiving game, and people, especially new people will get into some bad situations that aren't worth continuing with.
-
Vehicles need to respawn, I haven't ever seen one, ever. They aren't THAT game-changing that they need to be some of the rarest things in the game that only clans have because they hoard them. It isn't fair, basically. It would add a lot more depth to the game if vehicles of every kind were more available to Survivors. Something like a 2 - 3 hour respawn for vehicles would be great, so clans can take what they want since they aren't going to stop, and vehicles will still be around for everyone else so they can enjoy the game more, even if it means lots of the same vehicle spawn are on the server. That's what needs to happen, if someone had watched my entire experience on DayZ, they would think this game didn't have any vehicles, because I have never seen one spawned or being driven. Atleast put a Bicycle in each town, a few more instantly-drivable tractors on farms and near barns / in fields. And spread a few instantly drivable dirt bikes and ATV's throughout the wilderness, deep inside forests. It would be nice to get around a little faster, or have the option to do so without needing a clan in order to steal them for personal use. -__- Make vehicles less rare in my books.
-
Players probably, but bugs have killed me many times. I was in some small town decently kitted out, but all I had was bandages and painkillers with regards to medical supplies, I was sneaking around quite well but I alerted a zombie when I accidentally sprinted for about 0.2 seconds after vaulting over a fence, but zombies are little threat usually. But this one sprinted towards me, and without stopping sprinted right into me and through me, breaking my legs... god knows how far from anywhere that had morphine. So I just took on the town of zombies and died. Strange thing is, the zombie didn't stop, it ran through me then did a lap of a nearby building then came back to actually attack me. So annoying though, a single zombie is nothing, unless it runs through you and breaks your legs. Must have been a bug or something -_- Almost as bad as being prone and turning into a wall slightly which also breaks your legs. Other than things of that nature, often running into players when they just shoot me in the face instantly, even when I'm unarmed.
-
Yes, yes I do. I'm just throwing thoughts out, there's too much killing. Just today I spawned inside of a building in Elekro where I left off, with only an axe. 2 others were in the store, seen me, harmless, in the corner, holding just an axe, and instantly killed me with a shotgun, no communication or hesitation. It's the norm now. In another life today I had a makarov and I was in a town, I entered a house and seen another guy who was unarmed, he instantly fled, I told him I was friendly and eventually persuaded him I was, and I escorted him out of the town and to safety. His first response though was just to run away, no attempt to communicate, this is just a PvP game now that happens to have zombies, there's no humanity, which should be something unique to DayZ. And I'm sure if he had a gun he'd have killed me. Yesterday I came across 2 guys, one with a Lee Enfield, one with just an axe, the Lee Enfield guy ran off before I got there and I met the axe guy, said hi and escorted him around for a little since I had an MP5, then the Lee Enfield guy came back, and just as I greeted him, he blew my head off. To have any sort of extended life, I'm going to have to be bandit scum, and just murder everyone I see, which isn't what I want to do. But nothing in the game is giving incentive for anyone to actually show humanity and help others. The removal of the bandit skin and global chat made things considerably worse.

I want to play DayZ - How much will I have to spend on a new PC?
freak367 replied to Optimist (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Yeah, I bought the PSU first thinking a good quality 550w PSU would be more than enough, since my old PC barely pushed 250w at full load. I underestimated how much power even budget systems pull, 550w is the minimum my graphics card asks for in the specs, so it's a very fine line. If I could go back, I'd put a bit more money behind a PSU for a 700/750w or so. For now, since I don't overclock or anything, 550w will do. In my system which I mentioned, I just went into DayZ and I average about 85 frames per second. I can comfortably play on high graphics on the vast majority of new games, Tribes Ascend Very High is smooth, so is Skyrim etc... It can't compete with high end gaming rigs, but for a budget rig, it's fast, and I can play anything I want. On AMD FX- processors, they are quite cheap, mine is the FX-6200, which is a 6 core at 3.8GHz, 4.2GHz turbo. And it's quite good, but it still won't compete very well against slightly more expensive Intel processors, like the i5 2500k, the per core performance is poorer than intel. But they can handle multitasking quite well. In general, Intel processors are better than AMD, but AMD processors are almost always cheaper, making them the budget choice and they still pack a punch. And AMD are known for having everything unlocked for supreme overclocking ability. Any FX processor will hit high 4.x GHz effortlessly and into the 5+ GHz with enough cooling. With mine, some motherboards have a performance mode, which ranks it up to 4.4GHz stable without breaking a sweat with the stock cooler. Overclocking isn't for everyone, and I don't do it at the moment, but you can really push AMD processors. But the choice is always yours. Base it around Intel or AMD. I want to play DayZ - How much will I have to spend on a new PC?
freak367 replied to Optimist (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Good recommendations so far, over the past few months I have been custom building a new PC part by part, on a fairly low budget. Only recently finishing it really, if you can do that, I suggest building your own to keep costs down. This is what I built anyways, which effortlessly handles anything I throw at it. Motherboard: £59.99 Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 AMD 970A (Socket AM3+) Processor: £126.19 AMD Bulldozer FX-6 Six Core 6200 Black Edition 3.80Ghz (Socket AM3+) Graphics Card: £109.99 XFX ATI Radeon HD 6850 XXX 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express RAM: £42.23 8GB Corsair Vengeance Black (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Power Supply: £49.98 OCZ ZS Series 550W 80+ Bronze PSU Case: £56.95 Zalman Z11 Plus ATX Mid Tower PC Gaming Computer Case That's the core of mine, of course the case can be much cheaper. I spent more on optional things, like an NZXT Sentry Mesh fan controller, a Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler and some decent fans, speakers and other crap. In hindsight I'd have bought a 650w Power Supply, because I'm cutting it close with a 550w. Build your own if you can.
