  1. I have been a victim of a disappearing tent and an empty tent after a restart. I just found it strange how with both times, items were left in the tents, just items of little value, everything good, was gone. And especially this time when the weapon was gone, but the ammo and morphine was all still there, the rarest thing stored in the tent was missing. I probably wouldn't think much if my backup M1911 was gone. But it just seems suspicious. I was going to say the server hadn't restarted in those 6 - 7 hours, but checking DayZ Monitor. 2012-08-27 23:07:50 Restarted 2012-08-27 23:02:57 Restarted 2012-08-27 22:55:34 Restarted It restarted 3 times in less than 15 minutes :/, only about half an hour before I got on to check my tents. I've never seen such frequent restarting. So I guess they could have messed up my tents, still weird to find the rarest item missing out of everything there.

    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

The only reason DayZ right now has so many hackers is because it's a mod, it's built into ArmA 2 and the engine was designed for ArmA 2, Bohemia gave a lot of trust and freedom to players to use the engine as a war simulator, which for DayZ is backfiring since it lets people run scripts and "hack". Chances are, none of the "hackers" that are hacking DayZ right now, could actually hack a secure game. They are just abusing the ease of the ArmA 2 engine since it doesn't put up a fight. With the standalone, they will be getting a personalized engine for DayZ, along the lines of the ArmA 3 engine I am guessing, but tailored. So it can be locked down and secured, meaning to hack becomes considerably harder. It WILL be much, much more secure, no question. And all of the wannabe hackers that are trying to ruin this mod, won't even know where to start on the standalone. It will bitch slap them at the front door like the majority of games do that have secure engines. Still, at least the ArmA 2 engine isn't as hackable as the id Tech 3 engine, and that was actually trying.
  3. Hmmm, I'm a fan of the M4A3 CCO. It's camouflage skin, accurate red dot sight and flashlight are all great extras to a rifle that can go fully automatic for close range combat, I'm no sniper, so I always carry an M4A3 CCO as my primary, and ammo isn't that rare. It's something you can use in day and night for personal protection.
  4. It depends on your play style, I have a few sniper rifles, but I still mainly equip an M4A3 CCO everywhere I go, or an M16 variant. Because I prefer them, they are good for close quarter combat and can still be effective at ranges I'm realistically going to be fighting at. I'm not a bandit, so I don't need to shoot 800+ meters away to pointlessly murder an unsuspecting survivor. That's the only reason people need that sort of range. To be dicks.. Well, that, or to hunt down bandits, which is the only respectable thing to do with a sniper in DayZ. My preferred sniper is actually the M14 AIM, which again suits my play style. I wouldn't think twice about dropping an AS50 if it was all I had and I found an M14 AIM with a few mags or an M16A4 ACOG or an L85A2 AWS or one of many other weapons that I prefer to snipers. The only reason I keep them is to either give them to friendly people I meet, or to hunt down some bandits from a friendly tip off. And to just stop others having them.
  5. If hackers keep killing people like you, who do what you do. Then I give them my beans. :beans: I find it hard to feel sorry for anyone who gets killed by a hacker after they have ruined the game for 109 people beforehand. So pal, go fuck yourself  G'day.

    A safer Chernarus (kind of...)

Some endgame material could be good, I know Rocket wants to introduce something for an endgame, there could be an extra "mode" that a server could activate which turns on endgame. ArmA 2 could come into its own here as a military simulator within DayZ. A scenario could be created where the military has fought the infection back across most of the world, and are pushing through the country, since Chernarus is on the coast, it is the last stand of the infected and the final location for the military to liberate. Until then though, the pressure from the military on the country has forced a migration of infected to Chernarus, so the zombie count is off the scales, 6 - 7 times normal spawns everywhere. Before the military can move in though, certain areas need to be liberated by ground forces first so the military can set up bases, and they need access to power. We are those ground forces. Elektrozavodsk needs to be liberated for the Power Station and docks, the N/W Airfield for a military stronghold, and the Krasnostav and Balota Airstrips are needed for further operations by the military. Chernogorsk for the Factory and docks again, Berezino for just another base camp. And I'm sure more areas could be thought of. Once areas are liberated by survivors, zombies don't spawn inside anymore, but they need to be controlled, as zombies would approach from the outside. So it's a case of liberate and hold. Oh, and a military helicopter could fly over a liberated area and drop an ammo box, with plenty of every ammo. So you get a reward and it lets you keep using your best weapons instead of being forced to change to a weapon that has more plentiful ammo. And once everywhere is liberated, the final location would be Green Mountain. Someone needs to go into the Radio Tower to contact the military. However, Green Mountain is overrun with zombies, the funny noises coming from there have attracted a horde. Looking at 50 - 100 zombies spawned inside and on the outskirts of the complex. Then once completed, the military moves in, so after a couple of minutes you hear/see helicopters and jets flying above, and each area would have something different at the end. Anywhere with a dock would have ships approaching. Airfields would be approached by helicopters and jets, and maybe a few tanks would roll out of the woods in every area. Then, you win DayZ :D An endgame that would take hours to complete on a server. And people would have different strategies, do you go for Elektro or Cherno first, having faith in your weapons and the amount of ammo you have on you, or do you go for the Balota Airstrip, liberate it for the ammo box and then use that to stage operations to take over Cherno and Elektro, people would do different things, people would group up, taking on a city alone would NOT end well. It would be fun :D That's the sort of endgame I'd expect/want. That sort of makes sense. It would give everyone in the server a shared objective. And the ending would be a cinematic experience of the military moving into Chernarus, which ArmA 2 allows DayZ to do, you can go into the ArmA 2 Editor and probably create this scenario yourself to be honest, or any scenario.
  7. Like mentioned earlier though, when you're a fresh spawn, you have nothing to lose, I'm an experienced player and I've just died from a 40 day life, and as a fresh spawn, I just ran into Elektro and looted, had nothing to lose, if I get shot, I respawn again, losing virtually nothing. So keep doing it. I started my 40 day life by looting Elektro, Cherno and then the N/W Airfield. I took risks, they paid off. You only need to start playing carefully when you have something to lose that isn't easily replaceable. For example I looted the Elektro firestation on my fresh spawn a couple of days ago, and I found a Cayote backpack, THEN, I stopped running around like an idiot, and I moved out sooner than I would have if I hadn't found it. Because they aren't that common, I had something to lose. Up until then though, I was just sprinting around Elektro Axing zombies and carelessly looting with disregard for my life.
  8. I think some people do, I recently died after a long time so it was weird being on the coast, I was near Elektro so I went in to loot before going back up North. I only scratched a single corner of Elektro looking for loot, but I came across atleast 15 corpses on the roads. I have no idea how they all died, if they were all new and got owned by zombies, or if a sniper was picking them off. I expect the latter. I however was fine, I got all of my loot and left really well equipped and headed back up North. And there's plenty of videos on youtube of snipers high up in buildings in Cherno and Elektro sniping people for no reason, knowing that most of them are probably going to be new spawns, since anyone well looted doesn't go to big cities to loot, unless they are stupid.

    Food should be fun..

There's already wild animals you can hunt o_O, most of my food is cooked meat from killing cows, goats and boars. The only challenge is sometimes finding them when it just isn't your day. And yes, it should take longer to starve/dehydrate. Not sure about the blood regen, if it was added to replicate how our body does it, then it would need to be very slow, like 100 blood every hour or two. I think getting blood from food ties into this though, the idea that when you eat your body has resources to produce more blood, in real life water helps with that, after donating blood they insist you drink before leaving. I like how it is now, 200 blood from normal food which isn't much, but 800 from cooked meat, which is more of a challenge to obtain rather than just finding it, and it lets lone survivors be lone survivors. I have regained thousands of blood from meat, in my last life which was quite long I must have regained a good 15,000 - 20,000 blood overall just from eating meat since I don't play with others, and as a result I don't use blood bags. Also, if the only way to gain blood was by a slow regen or having someone to give you a blood transfusion, and you're a lone survivor, it could force you not to play for days if you have low blood, because it's too dangerous. It would alienate people who aren't in groups. I'm thankful DayZ has cooked meat to prevent the complete alienation of lone survivors. It was a good decision.

    Character stuck!

Hmmm, you could try... and re-create the coast spawn bug... join a 1.7.2.4 server, and then a 1.7.2.5, and then back to a 1.7.2.4 if that doesn't work. You might be lucky enough (in your case) to be hit by it. I was but I didn't consider it luck since I was teleported from far North to right next to Cherno... That seems to be your best bet to do it on your own. Or try what Dylon said. Otherwise starve to death or get someone to kill you.

    Character stuck!

Sounds like you need someone to put you out of your misery. Someone help this poor man, with a sniper. I doubt you can be saved.

My current problems stopping me from playing DayZ mod

I highly recommend using DayZ Commander, I recently reinstalled ArmA 2 and OA, and I just downloaded DayZ Commander and clicked install for the patches and DayZ, once it installed, I could play instantly. No faffing around, and DayZ Commander is simply better than Six Launcher. It will update everything to the latest and the server browser is amazing. If you're using steam, go into the properties of ArmA 2 and then ArmA 2: OA and validate the integrity of the files, that can sometimes fix issues. And with the loading screen... That sometimes happens, some servers I get on quickly, others I'm on the loading screen for 30+ seconds, but they do generally load... I don't think there's anything you can do about that. Someone else might know more though.

    Please Remove This Prop Completely

Yeah when I first came across that I was over the moon, until I realised it was just eye candy!, it sort of makes sense for the tent that's in to atleast have one common AK spawn, maybe on the table. I'd be good with that.
  14. Not sure if any Admins of UK 222 (hosted by Nebis) browse the forums, but I was wondering why over the past couple of days the time on the server has been different, DayZ Commander states the time as GMT, which it has been for weeks, and I have been using it as my regular server, I have a camp set up and such. But over the last 2 days, when I have been joining between 7am - 4pm my time and the apparent server time, it has been pitch black. Just joining now to check, where the server time should be 09:50am, my watch in game says 11:50pm. And it's supposed to be GMT, and it's GMT -10. Can this be fixed?, or is completely changing the server time a permanent decision?, I need to know if I need to find a new server :/ Also, why were nametags randomly turned on during one of the recent patches over the past week or two?, pretty much cost me my life at the Airfield when my name just flashes up to other people :/, makes a Ghillie suit useless. Did searches and I couldn't find anything on UK 222, some servers have websites and people associated with them to contact, not this one. It is being regularly updated though, the latest ArmA patches are applied quickly, same with DayZ. (Also, not sure if the forum user nebis is associated, but I sent him a message anyways asking)
  15. I guess so, the server name didn't change though, still hosted by Nebis and still updates with what versions it's running, as well as the time being GMT. If so, I guess I just hope the time isn't going to be GMT-10 from now on.
  16. Well not too long ago the server spent about 3 - 5 days or so offline, broken. And I was just about to find a new server when it suddenly came back online, so I jumped on to save my tents, since then nametags have been turned on, I initially chose the server using the DayZ Commander filter, CH on, 3DP on, Nametags off, it was perfect. And for a good few days it was regularly updating to the latest ArmA patches and it updated to 1.7.2.5 no problem. And worked fine running proper GMT time, I just sort of ignored the whole nametags being on and hoped it wouldn't be a problem, and also hoped it would be turned off again. It's just the past 2 days where the time has been changed to GMT-10, DayZ Commander still reads GMT since the server name still states that, -10 though is horrible for me as you can imagine. I don't like playing at night, and I don't have NVGs or anything to see in the night, just a flashlight which is dangerous as hell to use at night. I'll wait to see if this thread gets a response, or if the server changes. Worst case scenario I'll need to find a new home and get some tents set up to transfer my gear over. I'll just risk the use of a flashlight to see, either way one of the servers will be night since I'll be transferring stuff from GMT-10 to GMT. Thanks for the advice.
  17. So I recently died on my 40th or so day at the N/W Airfield, sucked balls, thankfully I didn't lose much, the only thing I miss is my Ghillie suit, and it wasn't fun losing my GPS and NVGs I guess, but I didn't use them much so no big loss, I had a backup GPS anyways. So I started again, took on my "throw caution to the wind" approach to starting out since I have nothing to lose, passed about 25 corpses in Elektro, (no idea how people die so much :S), gathered all of the basics, cayote backpack, tools, supplies etc... and went back up North. So, I have an M16A4 ACOG in a tent without any ammo, so my plan is to do a looting run of the N/W Airfield, solo, which I have done about 4 times so far, but recently getting owned by someone doing this exact same task, I don't want to risk very much. So I have decided this is what I am going to take on my looting run, I did a quick run through of Vybor for more supplies. And I was wondering, what do others take on risky looting runs, where death is more of a concern?
  18. Sorry for the double post, but thought I'd add that I've just finished looting the N/W Airfield, was successful, the only hairy moment being at the corner Barracks where I managed to attract about 10 zombies, went through plenty of M1911 ammo mind. I didn't really sneak very much. Here is my haul, I went with exactly what I had in my initial post, and my mission was to get STANAG mags, this is what I came back with: Happy with that. Was about 9 people on the server, but it looks like very few of them were going to towns or cities because not many zombies spawned, the peak was about 150 when I was at the Airfield and someone else probably went into Cherno or something. Seen nobody else at the Airfield thankfully. Now, my 128GB SSD just came through the door :D, going to backup all of my crap and format + reinstall Windows 7 on it. Wish me luck. (£50 from Ebuyer, what a bargain)
  19. Yeah I don't want to risk anything I will miss. An AK would be nice to take, but I don't have one at the moment, the Lee Enfield is common as anything, as is the ammo, and it does good damage, it's only there for defense against other players if I need it, it's the best non-military thing to carry in my opinion. To acquire an AK now would require a seperate looting run of somewhere with military loot, Stary Sobor is nearest to me, but dangerous. The M1911 is probably my favorite sidearm, I have 3 more stored in tents for backups if I die, they are common, and so is the ammo, I have a crap load stored. Even when wearing my best gear, I like to have an M1911 as my sidearm. It seems physically impossible to run out of ammo for it, which is great! Got the basic tools that are easy to replace, the ALICE pack which is common, the Sardines are just to fill me up, drink for... well drink. Bandages, Painkillers and Meat because I get impatient and I end up jogging around the Airfield, which zombies don't like, so I sort of expect to get into sticky situations. And the Smoke grenade is the one time prevention of a sticky situation that I like to have on me, such as having 15 zombies somewhere where I want to be, which always happens atleast once at the Airfield in my experience. Everything there wouldn't phase me if I lost them. Which is what I want. I can understand the idea of risking everything, but I'm too much of a pussy  I do risk everything everywhere else, but since the chances of me dying at the N/W Airfield are multiples of everywhere else I go, it feels like I'm just gambling with my gear. Hell, I could step out from the forrest and just get nailed by a sniper instantly, it happens. I'm still annoyed at myself for taking my Ghillie, NVGs and GPS with me earlier when I died, I was over confident, and someone turned around and ripped my face off with an AK before I even got to the first hanger. Also, I do pick up tin cans and bottles to throw if I need them, they can come in useful.
  20. I see what you did there.
  21. YES. Just had this happen to me, found a helicopter crash site, went prone on a hill a couple of hundred meters away and popped all of the zombies with my Lee Enfield, then half way through looting it doing my extra checks incase I missed something, I seen a glitchy flash of a zombie infront of me, then I looked around and seen that about 10 - 15 zombies had respawned within 30m of me all around ¬_¬ Piss take. Same thing happens to me in towns and at the N/W Airfield, just as I approach a building, 3 zombies spawn about 20m from me and do their spawning movement of dropping about a foot, then throwing their invisible rifle on their backs before becoming zombies. Even if they are just late initial spawns and not respawns, when someone is nearby, they shouldn't spawn. Zombies should be spawning WELL before a survivor is anywhere near them, not waiting until they are right next to them.

    character - completly wiped- wtf

Happens to various levels with a lot of people, my entire backpack was emptied bar about 4 items, kept the backpack though, and I lost 5 DMR mags from my inventory, rendering my M14 useless until I find more. And I also kept my Ghillie suit. Spawned right on the edge of Cherno. D:
  23. Well, that was odd, I just got into game for the first time since the latest patches, and like others, I spawned on the coast, next to Cherno, my backpack was emptied and I lost 5 DMR mags that were in my inventory, so I went back up north. While reasonably far up North, I came across a Dog... next to a town, I heard dogs could be introduced so I thought it was awesome having a dog follow me, until the dog started making cat noises, then just started talking to me xD, I had fraps running, but it decided not to work in game, so I couldn't record, but running through Steam, I could screenshot thankfully. At first he was talking to me like he was a dog, telling me he likes peanut butter. Then we just started talking about stuff, he told me he is normally a legit player, but when he does hack, he does silly things and helps people instead of nuking the server or whatnot, and that was the case in my situation. Then he started farting out different coloured smoke and ran around saying "I'm Nyan Dog". It was pretty funny. Then the server Admin started talking to me through chat, so we had a conversation, and I was telling him about the hacker dog :D He didn't have a nametag or anything and we just continued to talk for a while about various things, then when he was finished, I thanked him for the entertainment, since I expected my first hacker experience to result in me being killed. And he turned back into a nametag-less man and ran away, taking his hacked box with him. He seemed like a nice guy. Just thought I'd share this experience, it was really weird.
  24. freak367

    My first hacker experience xD

I hear about hackers a lot, which is all negative, but that's the first time I have ever seen and met one. I'm against hacking in general, it needs to be fixed, but if I meet more like that, I don't really mind , it added some entertainment to the normally tedious task of getting from the coast to up North.
  25. Oh crap, really? Since the DayZ patch and the sudden burst of ArmA 2 patches that just happened, I haven't been able to get onto my usual server, I let it load for about 5 - 10 minutes before I just ctrl+alt+delete and end it to try again. Haven't been able to get on in a couple of days. The flickering image I get before the loading screen does look like the plains though :( I really hope I don't spawn on the coast, I'll have to haul ass if I do.
