For a moment there I thought Rocket took the suggestion I gave him about "something" was taken into consideration and used...darn.

I heard it's just the military DLC that does the improved models.

Still day almost dusk, colors fade to black and white?
RpTheHotrod posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
No, this isn't with gamma cranked. While it starts to get dark, on my client, the entire world turns to flat black and white except for light sources such as flares. To my friends, it's still pretty light out and is barely noticeable it's actually becoming dusk. It's like the moment dusk starts, my colors within a minute or two fade to black and white. It makes it very difficult to make anything out. My friends still have full light and color visibility for a good 15 minutes before it starts becoming noticeably dark for them (they are not gamma cranking either). I tried messing with brightness and gamma by increasing or decreasing the values, but all it does is make everything "shiny" (like when you look at a LCD screen from an angle). Any ideas what might cause this? I have a GTX570 or GTX580 (I don't recall off the top of my head and I'm currently not at home) running windows 7 64 bit with 8 gigs of ram. Processor is an i5. It is very strange and looks like you're in some old black and white TV horror show. While "cool" looking in the creepy department, it's almost impossible to make a bandit out versus the environment. -
Just ignore him. He thought you said your deaths didn't go up. Anyway, sometimes people will alt-f4 out of the game to try to avoid dying. Even if they get killed, sometimes it'll "steal" your kill counts.

The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell

More difficult is good, but you also don't want to make the game a chore. It needs a good balance. -
Broken Bones And No Morphine
RpTheHotrod replied to pwnage13371's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't mind the broken legs mechanic, but I don't think it should be in the game in the current form until they fix the bugs that cause the random broken bones. Makes sense: Falling, being hit by an axe or crowbar Doesn't make sense: Getting melee attached without it being an axe or a crowbar, walking next to a tree, walking on a rock, getting shot (unless it's a rare rare shot that happen to hit a bone) -

PILLS HERE!!! -
You have to keep in mind that his definition of a bandit is not a true bandit. He means that 3/4 of players shoot on sight. That does not necessarily make someone a bandit. Perhaps a better choice of word would be hostile. Some people shoot first only because you have more to risk not shooting than shooting, not that they are intending on killing everyone they could possibly kill.

...wearing in the zombie apocalypse, of course! DayZ is a great idea overall and a creative mindset outlet. Anyone out there have some actual "DayZ" gear in the real world? If not, what would it be, and why? Would you prefer lightweight gear for maximum agility? Extra protection? Traveler, or fighter? Here's my zombie fighting setup Surprisingly enough, it's actually pretty easy to move around and doesn't weigh me down much. I've walked around for 8 hours straight and never felt any weight strain, at all. Coat to keep warm...check. Full body protection...check. Face mask to keep infected blood away...check. http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/9536/logante1.jpg http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/6940/logante4.jpg http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/8494/logante3.jpg http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/207/kidsn.jpg/ http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/1217/logante7.jpg http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/7595/logante5.jpg http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/6229/facerg.jpg

Tactical can be an issue, I agree, because in an apocalyptic setting, you're scrounging up whatever you could possibly find. Sure, there is "optimal", like you are saying, but optimal is not what you'll be finding. The outfit up there is put together to be very makeshift and worn and used up, as if everything was found and scavenged. Notice all the rust, wear, and tear. Nothing is new and shiny. If you survived an apocalypse, you'd find anything you could to survive. If you're wearing civilian clothing, one bite or scratch and you're pretty much screwed. If you have some gear on, even having a group of zombies on you, you'd have a chance at fighting them off. They wouldn't be too bright. My outfit there is rawhide. Really rough stuff. -

If you can see their face' date=' they can see yours. This is a simple concept of reality. [/quote'] I don't think you get it. There is a wall. Someone is behind it. You know they are there because you saw them run there. You, being sneaky, decide to crawl slowly into a flanking position because they can't see you behind the wall. WRONG! They can see you crawling perfectly because their camera is floating about a yard or 2 above their head having full visibility of you on the other side of the wall. Again, you have no idea if they can see you or not. If it was first person, you'd know they couldn't see you. So, you're being sneaky, and now you're just about to flank them. You are moving along the wall towards where they were at. Reality? They have been watching you the whole time, and now they are on that corner, looking around the corner with third person camera and just waiting for you to get closer. All that time you spent trying to use tactics to flank, they suddenly jump from the corner firing before you can even react. No way to have ever known they were looking right at you the whole time. As you fall over dead, you hear over voice, "LULZ! THIRD PERSON CAM, NOOB!" All it does is reduce the amount of ability to play smart and use tactics.
-
I'm in the boat of not liking third person. Why? You go out of your way to sneak up on someone, or you use tactics to position yourself in a way to not be seen. Nope! Despite him having absolutely no visibility on you, he can magically see over that wall or around the corner because of third person view. I don't like it because there is no way to tell if they can see you or not. Are you using tactics and sneaking around his flank with a wall in between him and yourself, or is he literally staring right at you through that "wall" because the camera is hovering well above him with clear line of sight? The only way you should be able to see around a corner is to actually peek around the corner. Same with wall height. Hospital roofs are a prime example. On the VERY top part of the roof, there is a 1 foot tall "rim" around the roof. You can prone and have clear line of site of the roof below you, ready to kill anyone who shows up, while in reality your guy is staring dead on at bricks. So, as an answer, we have "options" so people can play how they want. The problem is, if you give people an easy route, they will almost always take it. I have been playing for about 2 weeks and have yet to find any veteran servers that have it disabled that I can actually ping well to. If 9 out of 10 people take the easy route, you're stuck with 1 option, and you can only hope to death that the option is viable to you (ping, other options, etc...). Pretty much, I'm being forced to play in third person servers.

Question about Zombie behaviour, need help with the research!
RpTheHotrod replied to djkling's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You can develop random by having chances. Walk in a direction. Every few moments check against a chance to change direction. If the chance passes, then random a number (many methods to do this in programming). Apply directions or angles to different ranges of numbers. Example: To make it easy to understand, I'll pick 1 minute for change direction checks and have all numbers "rolled" to be 1-100. Zombie spawns and begins walking. After a minute, random 100. 1-40 = change direction. 41 - 100 = continue walking. The first minute 71 is hit so he continues. The second minute 23 is hit, so a change of direction is required. Roll 100. Every few numbers (such as 1-12 or something along those lines) is either a forced direction (N, NE, E, etc...) or an direction angle change. (30 degree, 45 degrees, 145 degrees, etc...) With this, no need to have to manually path zombies. Additionally, as a failsafe, you could add an invisible ring around a zombie spawn where a zombie is forced to turn around once reaching the edge of it. This would keep it the zombies in their "area". -

How to increase friendlies while maintaining PvP
RpTheHotrod replied to LiptonTea's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Personally, I love the idea of progression. It gives you a feeling that you are accomplishing something tangible, even if you die and have to restart. That way, it's not "wasted time". However, progression should not be related to items, so I'd be in favor of a skill progression. It'd be nice to run across a buddy who's really good at wilderness survival (skinning, cooking, etc...). I don't think you should have talent trees or anything like that. Just have experience towards different tasks, and if anyone puts the time into it, they could eventually max everything. There could also be simply visual progression. Know all the "character profile" stuff? Those could all be locked at the beginning of your career and unlock as you play the game. The problem right now though is that progression tracking would not be stable enough to utilize. We already have potential character resets when a patch releases. -

Infected no more dangerous than pesty flies
RpTheHotrod replied to I_Guts_I's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm all for more danger from zombies IF and only if they fix how buggy they are. 1. When they aggro, they are zipping around at supersonic speeds and teleporting. 2. They often aggro when they should not (I've been perfectly still, prone, not breathing loudly, full health and not bleeding, and yet a zombie well over 100 in distance away suddenly comes running straight for me). 3. They fix the "spawning as you combat them" issue. If I am in a location and see 5 zombies, I should be able to make a tactical plan to take out the 5 zombies. Currently, the moment they move or die, suddenly more and more and more spawn in instantly and join the fight. I had no zombie kills and was in a barn with a friend. I already scouted the place and there were 4 zombies that were "in range". One zombie saw/heard my friend through a wall. I took it down, and then zombie after zombie after zombie showed up. I was up the stairs and was taking them out one by one as they ran up the stairs. My friend wasn't so lucky and had a broken leg afterwards. After the whole ordeal, I had 18 zombie kills and he had 12. 4 zombies turned into 30 zombies. 4. They also have lag death declaration. You'll kill a zombie, but they'll continue attacking and pounding on you for about 2-5 seconds before falling over dead. If those issues are corrected, then yes, zombie buffs would be welcome.
