[Ideas] - Suggestions, Hotfixes, Balance
Sawzall replied to hydra.pt@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The reason animals are so rare is that most of them have been eaten by zombies. New buildings would be nice, but it's a lot of development work. Technically, it should be possible, but it requires someone to make all the textures and models. Prophecy, I think you underestimate the range of radios. The walkie-talkies you can get at Wal-Mart typically have a range of 500m to 1500m, depending on terrain. Military handheld radios have a range of up to 4500m. Range depends only on the transmitter, not the reciever. Anyway, most people just use Teamspeak. -
I like this idea, and you've justified it pretty well, but this has been suggested before here.

ArmA 2 Free has no mod support, and it doesn't get beta patches. DayZ is dependent on several features of OA, such as backpacks. Combined Operations is $30 on Steam, and the game itself, plus DayZ, plus other mods, more than justifies the price.

snipe's, nvg's, and silenced weapons should b removed?
Sawzall replied to twotoes's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Your suggestion is well thought-out, but the game isn't supposed to be balanced. NVGs are pretty rare, and a person who finds one has a massive advantage at night, just like in real life. By sniper rifle, I assume you mean the CZ550. This firearm is one of the most popular hunting rifles in Europe. Suppressors are also pretty common in Europe. I think some areas actually require them for hunting. Removing them doesn't fit with the setting of the game. Anyway, hitting a human-sized target in ARMA 2 with a scoped rifle at long range is not at all easy. If they hit you with the first shot, they're a pro. If they don't, hit the ground when you hear incoming fire. -
This could be pretty entertaining, and it would make all those whiskey bottles useful. I suggest that the player need to have matches to use a molotov, and that there be a minimum range for it to break, ie, if you toss it 4 feet it won't break. The only issue is the size of the fire created. This is a good example of what it should look like:

Your claim that loot gained on regular servers gives those players a serious advantage when playing on expert servers is of questionable credibility.

Weapons needing cleaning and oiling could be an interesting mechanic, with various malfunctions when it's too dirty.

Mosin Nagant, yes please. I'll take a dozen.

We're pretty much paraphrasing what Rocket has said about the game. Besides, by posting here you effectively asked for our opinions on how this would affect the game.

I'm thinking if you had a backpack, you could probably conceal it while wearing a ghillie suit. Does this actually cause some gameplay problem? Anyway, trying to run in a ghillie suit would definitely be exhausting and dehydrating. I don't see a problem with putting this in the game.

The Bizon is chambered for 9x18mm Makarov. You should be able to refill the Bizon's magazines with Makarov rounds. Somehow, I don't think having a little more ammo for the FAL makes it OP. Using DMR mags is just going to make it so you have 2-3 magazines instead of 1.

Switch to axe, without using the bag space in the backpack??
Sawzall replied to Kashus's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The game's not supposed to be balanced, per se. Considering that the axe is already on your toolbelt, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to sling a long gun and take out the axe. Probably the quickest way to do this is to allow melee weapons to occupy either the primary or secondary slot. Also, the hatchet in-game is not much larger than a handgun, and it's pretty easy to improvise a holster for a hatchet. -
I like the splint idea. Morphine's role in the game now is pretty unrealistic.

All the GPS receivers do is receive the signals from the satellites and compute your position. They wouldn't be capable of exchanging that information between each other.

I think the groups trying to set up serious trading posts make it clear that anyone who behaves aggressively will be shot. But to comment on your suggestion, the world of DayZ is supposed to be brutal and unforgiving, and the possibility of a trading post being attacked by bandits fits this concept. I like the idea of being able to trade easily, but a safe zone enforced by the game doesn't quite fit.

Lee Enfield Mountain Trolls and GiIlli Gimps
Sawzall replied to 3rdparty's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You're implying that, even with ample supplies, someone couldn't camp up on a hill with a rifle and shoot at people below them. Nice shitposting, OP. Just because you're butthurt about being killed doesn't make sniping for the lulz a less legitimate way to play. Even if you had a legitimate suggestion about ghillie suits, it's buried under a mass of insults directed at people whose gameplay style apparently enrages you. Even if zombies did spawn in the woods, it'd be totally unrealistic for them to spawn frequently enough to overrun a sniper. -
I think simply kicking you from the server when you die is pretty simple to implement and could prevent people from sprinting back to their corpse to get their items back. I don't know about how much additional load this could place on the servers, but it seems like the game already makes you pretty much reconnect in order to respawn.
-
There is definitely body armor available that can stop rifle rounds past a certain distance. How, mechanically, would this be implemented in ArmA?
-
I like this suggestion. It could be annoying to implement, but it's definitely more realistic than, for example, the PDW accepting every 9mm magazine in the game.
-
Really, it's not as much of an advantage as you make it out to be. You might occasionally be able to see through some walls or over some fences, but the actual advantage in found items/weapons is going to be minimal. Third person isn't totally unrealistic, either. If I'm crawling through the woods in real life, I have a pretty good idea what's going on within a few feet of me and the first-person viewpoint doesn't give you that. If you only play on servers with third person disabled, I don't see how it being available on other servers could possibly affect your gameplay experience enough to justify disabling it for all players.
-
I agree in principle that it might be more realistic, but having easier access to military loot in the south could cause problems.

Try the suggestions forum, and try proofreading. The gear menu is built into ArmA, it's not something that a mod can change. And you don't magically receive munitions for doing things in the real world, only in Call of Duty.
