A realistic way to balance PvP

There shouldn't have to be an in-game morality system. You should feel bad enough in real life when you kill another character, causing others to lose days, maybe even weeks of play time. The thing is, people don't care about strangers. It's the way humans are supposed to be. 10,000 die in some drought in Africa? No sweat. Your hamster dies and you're sad all week. Killing some random person in a Zombie Apocalypse would be no different. There is no negative to killing them, unless you are currently solo. Pro's: No chance of them killing you They won't team up just to back-stab you You get their stuff Cons: It takes a couple of bullets Even with an artificial system in place like the one you're suggesting, people will still kill others. Either for fun, loot or because they are afraid of being killed themselves. Also, what happens if someone engages you, you kill them and get the "killer sickness" then along comes some other bandit who attacks you? You'll stand no chance with your aim being all over the place and making more noise with every step. You're at a disadvantage defending yourself against attackers who came after you.

    Simulator sickness

Headbobbing in games usually makes my eyes sore too. Turn it off like the poster above said and you're good to go.
  3. Remove the swearing and you have my opinion also. I couldn't find many players in-game, so I jumped out of game, onto TS3 and within 5 minutes, I've got a solid group of 6 players and another group of 5 which are both building camps on servers. This game is good, but what makes it great is the meta game. Much like Eve online.

    Disconnecting to avoid death

Find a server thats daytime...write down it's name...play it from now on? You'll even start to see some of the same players on the server and may even get to know someone.

RIP DayZ - Yogcast started a LP

I don't see why this is a bad thing. More players -> More money for development -> other companies start making similar games -> more fun?

    No competent player should die

I don't know if it was the OP or not, but last night, I saw 2 ghillie suited players on a hill north of Cherno, in some trees, sniping down into the town. I follow the treeline up to them, got behind them and sniped 1 of them in the back of the head. As soon as I fired, the other DC'd, which was a shame and really annoyed me. The only complaint I have for DayZ is the x-logging during combat. If that was fixed, the game would be playable to it's fullest. Random leg breaking is rather funny and I always carry plenty of morphine for when it does happen. That's 1 less bandit for a couple of hours anyway. Man it felt good. You can reduce your chances of dying by staying away from the major pvp zones, but there is always a chance. I've seen countless players at smaller villages inland and running through the wilderness. It reduces your chances of death sure, but you're never safe.

    Nighttime?!!

If you value your gear, don't play a night server unless you have NVG's. Flares just broadcast your exact location to everyone withing a 2km radius.
  8. I don't count shoot-on-sight as being a bandit. Actively hunting for players is being a bandit. If I see someone and they have a gun...they are going down. If they are unarmed and in a city, then the same applies. They could easily find an enfield and gun me down. If I see someone unarmed, middle o nowhere / on the coast, they can live. Camping Cherno/Elektro/Airfield/Stary is being a bandit. Shooting on sight is being cautious. (Most people will disagree, but I'm not taking any chances.)

    Lee Enfield or Shotgun?

Take the enfield until you can find a better weapon. They are great for killing other players, should the situation arise, although against zombies they only serve to attract more.

Should i raid the NW airport? If so how!

I would have to advise against raiding the NW Airfield if you are alone. All the loot you mentioned can be found elsewhere. Backpacks - For an ALICE, try supermarkets, they spawn quite frequently there New Weapon - Deer Stands / Heli's. Compass - Same place as the Backpack Getting a M4A1 SD is going to be quite difficult, especially for a solo player. I've farmed the tents at Stary quite frequently with a group of 6-8 players and haven't seen one yet. I've also been to ~10 crashed helis and haven't seen them there either. Good luck finding one!

    Helicopter crash sites

"He didn't manage to press alt+f4 in time" (From page 1). Good, I'm glad he didn't press it in time. Alt+f4 is cheating, no way about it. You might as well just spawn in all your gear and give yourself infinite ammo while you're at it. Why you would admit it on a forum is beyond me, but please...stop.

Some feedback and ideas. A giant wall of text.

It's Alpha. What do you expect? Of course it's bug ridden. That's why we are testing it, so they can be fixed. Too many people expect this to be some polished AAA title, which it isn't. Stop complaining and start reporting the bugs instead.
  14. If friendly fire is a toggle on/off, then every will just turn pvp off, farm stary/NW airfield then run to Cherno/Elektro and turn it back on... You can't have different game rules for different servers. It just unbalances the whole game. Without bandits the game would be too easy. With them it's quite frustrating. But everyone has to play by the same rules, otherwise you would need a different account for every type of server to keep settings from being exploited.

    No Weapons!

Nothing, your client install is fine. No one starts with a weapon now, it's been patched out. Sometimes that warning message just appears.

    An attempted experiment...

Because it gives them +1 murders. If you want to make friends, the only way is to meet up outside of the game on vent/teamspeak etc and get going as a team. Then it's your team vs. the world, which makes for some fun gameplay. Meeting up in-game is too risky for a player with a lot to lose. If I've just spawned in from a death, I'd be happy to team up with the first person I meet. If however, I've not died and lost my NVG/Coyote Bag etc, I'm not taking any chances. Why wouldn't you KoS anyway? Simply surviving within this game is too simple and provides no challenge. Having to constantly be on your toes, checking tree-lines and watching for tell-tale signs of life (dead zombies, oddly dropped loot etc) is what makes the game tense and thrilling. Just walking around looking for food/water is boring. All you need is a wild animal and a lake and you're good to go for 8 hours.

    Annoying thigns.

Walking beside a teammate through the back of a supermarket, only to be squashed between him and the shelving, resulting in my legs breaking and losing a huge amount of blood + passing out after being fixed up. The sound + amount of blood was hilarious...well...it would have been if I wasn't risking all my gear -.- Pretty sure I almost fell off of my chair. Not often does that happen with a video game. So I guess, good job Rocket :)

    10 Reasons To Avoid Cherno/Elektro!

If you've never been there then how do you know it isn't worth visiting? -.- Personally, I love starting at Cherno. (Dislike Elektro though) The church, supermarket and 2-3 houses can all be looted within 10-15 minutes of spawning, which will yield a TON of gear. I usually end up with more of the survival tools, primary + secondary weapon, medical supplies and if I'm lucky, a new pack. After getting this "basic" setup, I do recommend moving north however. (If you plan on survival as being your main goal. If you just want to have fun as a bandit, stick around Cherno/Elektro) I have ran my most recent 3-4 characters through this startup and have yet to die once while in Cherno.

    How to Heal?

I've always found hunting knives to be harder to find :s It sucks running around with 2/3 of the items just hoping to find the last missing piece.
  20. Every server should have the exact same rules and population cap. Either that or have a separate character on those "custom rules" servers. Loot should be rarer if there are less people on the server. I don't care what people say, this is a multiplayer game with persistent characters...the rules have to at least be fair. Joining a 5 player max, password protected server and then just farming the NW Airfield during day time should not have the same reward as playing on a 50/50 server, veteran rules at night. Zombies pose little to no threat. Without other players, this game would be nowhere near as tense. Privately owned servers should be separate from official servers.
  21. Fishing seems like a terrible idea, unless bait was rare. If everyone can find a rod and fish, then food will be very easy to come by...even easier than it currently is.
  22. It sounds like a nice idea, but the main reason people kill others is due to paranoia and fun. People will always kill others, just because it is fun for them, even if there is a huge penalty against it.

    Health Vial Or Stimpack

Or...just cook some meat and there you go. 800 blood each.

    Logical suggestion - Remove NVG?

If you take them out for a couple of patches, things will be even worse. Those who are alive already with them won't even have to worry about new spawns getting them. If you remove the spawns + from player inventory's, you will have a whole new level of rage from people with NVG's crying that they were removed after they spent time getting them. If you want to play daytime, play on a daytime server. It's as easy as that. (I don't have NVG)

Removal of 3rd person view exploit

I don't see 3rd person as any advantage. Players are the only threat if you are playing "correctly" and don't just run through the streets. If you're on a 3rd person server, everyone has 3rd person, so it's an even playing field. If someone likes using 3rd person, they are unlikely to change to a first person only server anyway. I move while in 3rd person, as first person seems more blurred while moving. (I've turned off motion blur), but I always switch to first person if I am in combat. It's a preference, not an advantage.
