I've had so much fun so far, it's amazing having a new playground haha. Takes for ever to explore even the smallest place. I'm finding small settlements and spending 15-20 mins there checking it out. I've played around with the medical gear... got a friend to take 2 blood bags from me, I was then 1 hit knocked out in the next encounter haha. A guy attacked me when I was refilling water, I caught him out of the side of my eye sneaking up. Got up and legged it, hopping over fences, through back gardens in the dark. Got into a firefight near Stary, with 3 bullets! Still nervous around players, can't help shake the feeling everyone is out to get me... Currently holed up with a 25 slot bag, a mosin with loads of ammo, plenty of med supplies although no blood (I'm A+ this time round). Got a Pu scope, bipod and bayonet for my mosin, although I've NO IDEA how to stab with it once it's on the end of the gun. I'm sick just now too, I got really desperate for food, it had been so long since I had last ate, I had lost count of the minutes. I found myself munching a rotten apple and I don't think it even helped me. The irony is, my bag is choc full of food, I've just never foun a tin opener... was running around with a box of ceral in my hand as my invintory was full.... pulled out my compass to check my direction. That cereal box is lying somewhere in a field! Does anyone know how I cure my sickness? And can anyone tell me how I stab with the bayonet on the end of the mosin?

Thanks for the responses guys... beanz all round. the game was updated a while back so I can open tins... needless to say, but I'll say it anyway, that character is LOOOOONNNNG dead now hahaha

Performance is not governed by your rig for this game, it is governed by the server.... if you have read any dev notes or blogs they told us that the server must get around 15FPS for the client side to get playable fps (ie 30 or so) Now server FPS is nothing like client FPS. Client FPS is how many frames are rendered per second whereas server FPS is more akin to Minecraft "Ticks". If the server has to do lots of things per tick the number of ticks per second will go down, when that happens the clients connect to that server will get fps drop. When a character goes to a city like Cherno then the server needs to send all the info about cherno to the client... increasing the amount of things the server has to do per tick... decreasing client FPS.... so you could have a flying machine of a computer and it won't help your ingame FPS because it is governed by the server.
-
you should look at how much your gpu is being utilized... I'm pretty sure the low frame rates are cause by the servers... the fps is worse in cities because you are being sent a lot more info.... I also have the GTX 770 and when the frame rate is at ~30fps the card is only being used at 25-45% so its not a rendering issue.... this is with everything up full bar Post processing Try turning your graphics options up. If you have any settings lower than "High" I believe it gets shifted to your CPU, whereas "high" and above it is your GPU that does it

When you open your inventory, the box at the bottom (under your character) is what you are holding in your hands. Press the red "X" in the corner of the "Hands" window if there is anything in there. Drag the First Aid Kit into that window, you should now be holding it. While you are holding the bag in your hands you can move stuff in and out of it. Saves you having to risk dropping it. P.S. If you have no room in your invintory and the thing in your hands isn't a weapon it may be dropped onto the ground at your feet.

The last time I properly played Vanilla DayZ was probably away last year, for the last few months I have been playing on DayZ Origins. Today I had a strong urge to play regular DayZ but my DayZ Commander couldn't find a server at all. With the "Hide unofficial" button ticked there was not a single server, so I tried unticking the box and a whole load of servers popped up. I scanned through a few pages of servers and every single one of them had at least one thing I considered "wrong" with them. "Always Daylight", "AI NPC's", "full starter kit", "REGULAR", "customer loadout", "start with sniper", "NO PVP" (<-- wtf?), "start with NVG", "Better Loot", "100 helis"... It is my opinion that everything listed above (and there are plenty of other options not listed) ruins the game. Most of the servers seemed to try and entice people in by being "noob friendly". Personally I think the game should be as hard an punishing as possible. No starting loot, day/night cycle, rare loot etc... /rant ANYWAY The reason for my post was really just to ask has vanilla DayZ died? or do you recommend trying a different search technique?

When was the first time YOU killed someone in DayZ?
Shakis replied to tacticalbanana's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
lol it was so long ago I can't even remember, there has been soooo much bloodshed. -
Yeah, I logged in and there was a guy in the trees on the hill right next to the tents at stary... I didn't know he was there until another survivor came running in and got gunned down, I went hunting for the guy that killed him... I found and killed him then waited on my pal as 2 more people turned up... I think there were about 3 or 4 different groups of survivors at one point cos there was a lot of gunfighting giong on I tried to stay hidden and my pal was gunned down when he arrived, I was killed too.. I think the whole time I was there there was someone just 50m behind me staying quiet

I found an FR and GER server still on the public hive, was good to log in for the first time in ages... I logged in at stary sobor an my pal was in cherno... I had 3 kills before I moved from my log in spot... things were crazy from the get go.... heart in my mouth, pulse racing... ahh the good old days... MOAN THE STANDALONE!

Awesome man... when you picked up the rate of fire at the end I thought you were gonna fall back hahaha, I'd love a shot at one... only had the chance to fire semi-auto shotgun before.... damn that hurts the first time lmao didn't expect that kinda kick. Felt like someone actually drop kicked my shoulder hahaha, luckily I was holding the butt in tight or it would have hurt! -
So does anyone else ever have that instant feeling of regret when they kill someone?
Shakis replied to LeastDionysus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Perfect example happened to me last night on DayZ Origings. I normally play with at least 1 or 2 other people (with a max of 6) but I was on myself last night. I was looting around one of the bigger cities sticking to the walls and shadows... it was very dark. Out of no where a guy in a ghillie suit charges round the corner... I had taken an AK with me and loads of ammo because I was going zombie killing, 3 panic rounds point blank, he went down like a sack o' totties. I apologiesed over side chat but he didn't reply. He might actually have been coming to kill me... Never seen an AK drop someone so quick hahaha - instantly felt bad about it because it wasn't planed... it was a flight of fight moment for sure -
I logged onto Orgins alone. I didn't feel like co-ordinating with a team as I had been killed the previous night and my team wouldn't back me up and I was doing quite well. I had bumped into 2 players the first, sadly, was a new spawn. I don't kill on site, instead I stalked him till he entered a house. I ran up to the side of the house to ask over direct chat if he was friendly. At this moment he put his back up against the wall, gun pointing to the door and stayed quiet. I asked a couple more times and added, "If you do not reply I will kill you". Still no reply... I don't think he noticed he was crouched in the corner with a massive window on his left. Good night. I returned to my duties... I had found a big van that only needed a wheel, engine parts and some fuel so I was scavenging around concentrating on industrial buildings. I found some scrap metal that the van could be using, it didn't require it but I'll take it. While scouting around the edge of the town I spotted what looked like a helicopter tail protruding from a tree. I thought, "hmmm, that's strange". On closer inspection a Huey revealed itself. Looked like someone accidentally parked the poor thing in a tree. SCORE!! The chopper had fuel, windows, engine parts, bear traps, ammo and some morphine! - all that was left was to find a wheel. I ran back to the van with my loot, haphazardly chucking it into the back. It was just here I remembered, YOU NEED A TOOL BOX YA DUMMY! I went back out on the prowl. I had spotted a large warehouse that looked ripe for the looting, but I wasn't the only one with that idea. Just as I get to the perimeter wall, as if out of nowhere, a bandit rears his head. I employed the same method of communication with the bandit, getting as close to the warehouse as I could but staying outside the perimeter wall... "Are you friendly?". I moved closer and closer to the entrance of the complex that housed the warehouse. As I ask again over direct if he is friendly he comes bursting out of the doors on an intercept course straight at me. With no time to think I raise my weapon. He speeds though the gate and takes a left, now he is running straight at me! The dinner bell rings as my enfield punches a hole in his stomach, he seeks cover while hemorrhaging all over the place and dukes in behind a wall. Now he replies! "Friendly! Friendly!" he screams. I assure him that I am also friendly and in a show of good faith I run out in his direct line of sight just 5 meters in front of him with my gun lowered, he doesn't return fire. "Phew!", I think to myself. He requested blood and I had picked some up from the chopper but I had totally forgot I left it in the van, and there is no chance I'm letting anyone else know I have a vested interest in that van. Lucky for him though there is a hospital near by. We headed into the warehouse I first spotted him in and he stood still while I applied the blood bag to him, making sure that I didn't step into his direct LOS I applied the bag from behind. After blooding the bandit I looked around and there they were, the final parts required to complete the van. As we ready to part ways I hear him scream one more time followed by that proverbial snap! A few rogue zombies got him in the legs, I turn back and hold them off while he uses his morphine. "Server restart in 10 minutes" I hang around till the server is back up and running. I had logged out on top of a rock that was resting on the side of a hill keeping over watch for a few minutes to make sure the coast is clear then head down to do up the van. I just can't wait t'get on that road again! With only one jerry can I was going to have to find a source of fuel, preferably not in a town that players spawn in. The only explanation I have for what follows is that the inhabitants of Salvation City decided to get their own back:
-
They attacked me on my own. 3 helicopters against a lone survivor. Not honorable in the slightest. As soon as I could, I headed back to base camp. Grabbing the essentials I get a friend online to regroup at our chopper. The damn thing wouldn't fly, we had intentionally sabotaged it to make sure that no one would make off with it in the night. We just forgot that without the correct parts, we were also grounded. We spent the next hour or so scrimping around for some scrap metal and a spare rotary assembly. It didn't take us long to find the scrap metal we needed but those specialist parts took a keen eye, a steady hand and bucket loads of patience. Finally! We had the pieces we needed but we still had to make it back to the chopper. We had set up camp in the middle of nowhere so re-spawning was just not an option. Sticking to the road least traveled, the trees were our best cover. Only one other survivor spotted but it was of no consequence to us, ghosts in the forest, we wanted no attention. We had landed the chopper just off the side of a road cutting through a dense part of woodland, in a small clearing. Even the most experienced pilot would have normally avoided this landing spot but needs must. The rotor was badly damaged, even before we sabotaged it the chopper grazed a tree. Upon repairing the rotor (and pulling a few rogue branches from the air intake vents) and instruments the chopper was in a condition where it should get off the ground and as long as those instruments were okay we shouldn't have any close encounters with the trees again. Success... take off! Time to get revenge on those that would attack me!

So does anyone else ever have that instant feeling of regret when they kill someone?
Shakis replied to LeastDionysus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Excellent! I still feel bad when ever I kill someone that was not an instant threat... I started a post called "Salvation City Strikes Back" that kinda touches on it. I ended up killing a fresh(ish) spawn yesterday, I asked over and over if he was friendly because anyone can be deadly on Origins because 1 makarov mag is enough to kill 8 people with a shot to the head. He didnt' respond so an enfield round found its way into his head.. Funny thing is too, I got into the exact same situation with a bandit but the first shot didn't kill and he shouted friendly, so I stopped and plugged the hole in his gut lol -
HAHA thanks man. I know man sucked balls about the loot... I was soooo hoping to find at least a body hahaha.

Going Unconscious upon entering a server (not in shock)
Shakis replied to Epsilon 349's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I'm pretty sure your GUID shows up when you first log into a server, take a screen shot of it or something.
