I have never understood this, I think it's a pile of shit myth, especially when people start saying how you're lagging out everyone on the server. It's worse for the player with the ping than those shooting at him, unless he's deliberately screwed with his upload speed and you see him warping around all over the place but it's fine on his screen, but I've not seen that for years. Unless it's a professional match, then there's really no need. Hell, in the old CoD united offensive days (The ORIGINAL cod, not the kiddie crap now) the clan that I lead took the top spot in the world for the domination game type and we played away from home on an american server (we were EU except for one US member) and we all had pings of 180 while they were 30-40. Still, with that said, I find the ping that's higher dayz is FAR more unresponsive due to the nature of the game than it would be in a regular game. Maybe that's just me but it still never feels completely smooth even with a 10-15 ping, I'd hate to see 150+. TBH, that's more with the engine I think and I can't say I'm too fond on the Arma engine.

No it shouldn't? WHY should it? Give me one logical reason. Because YOU say so? Don't even think about adding the realism argument. It's a game against zombies. That is far from realistic. It's far from realistic that I can find a downed chopper and start flying it from getting inside. I don't even know how to hotwire a car IRL, let alone a chopper then proceeding to fly off in it. There's this thing called BALANCE which is far more important than anything else in a multiplayer game. Granted, I'm not 100% fond on the change either BUT I'm not completely against it, so long as it's not just a couple of weapons (which it wasn't) but rather a balance across the board. Now, here's the thing!... You fired upon some guy who you spotted coming into the building (so you got the jump) and you failed to kill him (then you come running to the forums to whine). Deal with it. It was your fault. You say you shot him in the chest and reloaded. IF you shot him in the chest with a full clip and every one of those bullets landed, I'd have expected you would have either killed him, made him unconscious or completely screwed up his vision that he would have found it hard to hit you, let alone having the shakes, chance of leg breaking, bleeding to death etc. So, what I really think happened, you either had half a mag because you forgot to reload or you missed a ton. But ultimately, the SIMPLE hard truth is Why on earth did you STAND STILL WHILE RELOADING AS A GUY COMES CHARGING TO YOU WITH AN AXE! If you had hit him like you said you did and then turned around and ran he wouldn't of been able to catch up to you while you reloaded. Or, you know, just shoot him in the face?

I actually think unarmed are more of a threat. They might have a weapon in their backpack or manage to pick up a gun somewhere and they have very little to lose. A well equiped guy has far more to lose. I know when I've just spawned and have nothing but an axe or pistol I go into rambo mode and will charge someone far better equiped than me. If I die? So what, respawn with a smile and adrenaline rush. If I kill them? Goodies for me \o/

As I've said a few times in recent threads, I stopped playing for a couple weeks with other priorities. However, upon playing today and after messing about I thought it time to gear up a character. head to Elecktro and pick up a few things. Upon scouting around, I grab my pistol and find a bunch of ammo. MP, M1911, Revolver ammo etc. Next room there's a box of MG ammo, 100 rounds. Then I find a 200 round box, some more pistol ammo and an alice pack. After 5 or so minutes, I've filled up all my belt with ammo and the alice pack is FULL of all pistol ammo. I end up clearing it all out for M1911 and managing to fill up almost every slot again (I had to drop some all the time for some morphinex3). I found can after can of pepsi and then once again, some more boxes of 100/200 round MG ammo. I wasn't playing long, 10-15 minutes or something. It got too much in the end so I started popping off zombies all over the place, yet I still could not stop finding ammo. Also I had 6 water bottles (3 full) and I must have seen 5 knives in total. Then I saw a couple of dead players, looted some stuff (military flash light? Never seen that before, is it new?) and went to get to a high point to log out and once more there were satchel after satchels of pistol ammo. What's going on? Is this normal? Before it could take a while to fill up your bags with ammo. There was so much it started to make me feel a little uneasy as though it wasn't suppose to be there, except for it was in usual spawning locations. Has Rocket increased the drop chance or what? I think it's a little excessive tbh, but whatever, as long as it's legit I guess I don't mind so much, still, the machine gun boxes were disturbing me, I've not often (very occasionally) found these anywhere other than deer stands, military zones. I'm aware that someone may have dropped one or two (though, I'd assume your personal loot would override the spawning after a while) but there was so many boxes of it. 7-8 100 rounds and 5 or so 200 rounds..in different locations all between the hospital/supermarket and area surrounding those.

Oh I also forgot to mention I found a crowbar as my first weapon, I picked it up and got some strange coding appear in the middle of my screen (don't remember what it said, but it was 4 maybe 5 lines of text in a black box). The crowbar didn't equip (It was in my primary slot on invent screen but I couldn't pull it out or reload) When I drop it, it floats in the air. I pick it up a second time, get the same issue. I drop it and leave it, move on, and there's another item that did the same thing, can not remember what it was but it wasn't anything good, maybe a can of beans or something. Then, later on I got an error message (like the no weapon.cfg thingy) that said something about no pink sunglasses. Are both of these normal? I've only used a crowbar once or twice a long time ago, and I'm a bit worried about the pink shade thingy since I hear hackers just plant clothes on you or something :P But yeah, these normal bugs? (Games so weird since I last played, and tbh, I've also been turned off a bit after reading how many hackers there are getting people banned. I'm not dumb enough to pick up an item I know isn't in the game, but I'm picking up regular items from normal spawn locations and freaking out now)

That's my point, I've NEVER seen it like that. The thing is, I forgot to mention this was over two separate play through's. I stopped to go to the shop for some smokes and when I came back I changed server and it was the same. I don't know if it's been changed or not since I've not been here the last couple of weeks but this is far from what I'm use to. I kitted myself up so quickly I didn't know what else to do. I fired off some rounds to try and draw some people to my location but no one came and I logged after refilling my ammo...again.

I'm a little concerned about this actually. I have a different problem and while I'm sure it's okay (Or I'm not) I wonder if anyone can shed some light on it. When I play Dayz, my firewall (norton 360...now! Before you all rag on norton, it's actually a pretty good piece of kit, except for one annoying bug in the latest version where if you add to many manual rules for the firewall it will crash and then you either have to let it add them automatically or reinstall, their apparently working on a fix, and it's happened twice to me so far so I've not bothered to add so many firewall rules manually this time. It still works, but I can't manually block something. It's both their fault and mine, mine for adding them too fast, theirs for not fixing it. However, it's a decent firewall but I think people don't like it since it's a resource hog..or use to be) Anyway, when I play, either loaded from the six updater or launcher, unless I turn off norton tamper protection (which, I won't do!) I can get spammed with 30 pages of activity in 5 minutes (I usually get 2 pages a day), Unauthorised access blocked (Access process data). The actor is C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\GAMES\STEAM\STEAMAPPS\COMMON\ARMA 2 OPERATION ARROWHEAD\EXPANSION\BETA\ARMA2OA.EXE The target is Norton 360\Engine\6.2.1.5\ccsvchst.exe This will spam every second over and over. I believe norton is blocking it from accessing the registry keys. It happens if I leave tamper protection on (I turned it off once, it didn't happen, but I don't turn it off otherwise) Sometimes it can flood so much it shuts down the whole internet and I have to reboot. Norton blame it on Arma saying that it shouldn't be trying to access the registry. That's all they'll say, they won't take fault and tbh, I do like norton since it does it all and it's a fire and forget kinda thing. Can anyone shed some light as to why it's doing this?

ALL towns are a great source to get starter gear. Any that aren't Elec/cher are a lot safer, which is to be expected since they are next to the spawn points. Most towns give the same value, you'll be likely to find what you need from matches, knife, water bottle and hatchet. They'll probably have cans of food/soda and some crappy weapons (winchester/enfield etc). You might even find a half decent pistol. You could get a tent and a decent backpack also. Aside from that, nothing of GREAT value, this is what I personally consider starting gear needed to survive the journey to airfields/bases etc. Personally, I prefer to get my goods from cherno/electro. If I die? No matter, I'll spawn right near it again. I also have the chance to kill a few people and take their stuff. It sucks a bit more heading up there to those towns to get the same loot and ending up dying. I'd rather get the starter gear over with first. The town does have some deer stands near it though I believe, where you can get some military grade weapons, but so what? You can get to stands easily enough anyway. You shouldn't really set your eyes on a specific town, rather the closest to you. Any further north than the coast ones are safer in most regards, but if you die, then also longer to get back there. They are nice stop off points to grab some morphine though, but I won't leave town until I got the required stuff to feast in the wild and 3-4 morphine.

Dunno, never had a chopper, don't think I would like having one in the slightest either. I guess I'm a bit like golum in the fact I get overly defensive when I do have something. When I find a vehicle I get so worried that it's going to get stolen I don't leave it, can't make myself a coffee or take a piss, it's a nightmare! What was wrong with the radar anyway?

Phew, thought it was just me. Haven't played in a couple weeks and this never happened before. Today one comes running from miles away, no reason to! I was crouched down and walking slowly and just saw him charging towards me, thought it must had been another player, but nope. Right at me. Strange thing is, there's a bunch more far far closer to me, facing me and what not, yet completely phased by me being there..just doesn't make sense.
