Are you maybe playing on a server that has the crosshairs disabled? Crosshairs, 3rd person view, nametags, waypoints, mapupdates, global chat and other things can be disabled server-side. So if you really want to play with CH you should look for a server with recruit settings or "ch:on" or something similar in the name.

About the player nametags: Just to clarify, are you refering to your own difficulty setting in game or to the server's? Because it's the server settings that matter. About the debug window: I have that as well sometimes. (no idea how to get it back) The ammo/weapon display in the right top corner also vanishes from time to time. (switching weaponmode ("f") gets it back) -
I've had that issue with games blocking the PPT for voicecoms in other games as well as in dayz. The solution that worked in those other games was running the game as administrator. However, I havn't been able to use this workaround for dayz because i havnt figured out yet how to run dayz as admin while using the six updater to launch it. That is why i switched to voice activation for now.

you unequip your pistol for the time being (needs 5 inventory slots) or go for the g17 which has a built-in flashlight.

You can play dayz with arma II free. In fact that is what I am doing. Got arma II free, bought OA on steam and dl'ed dayz. No idea how it affects the fps though.

Well, in case you do have a 2nd screen you can always use an "online map" quite nicely (Obviously you can use those without having a 2nd screen but then you have to alt tab whenever you want to have a look on the map). They also have all the loot spots marked on them. Personally, i use http://dayzmap.info but there is loads of other ones so you can just pick the one that suits your preferences best (google is your friend). -

1) You need to have the flashlight in your sidearm slot (get it there by right clicking on the flashlight (when it is on the toolbelt) and select remove from toolbelt) 2) Then you need to make sure you are using the sidearm and not your primary weapon. Switch weapons if needed. 3) If you hold the flashlight in your hands (you can see it on the screen) you can toggle it on and off with the appropriate key (default is L).

Shouldn't the ammo of the FN FALs and the DMR be interchangeable as they both use the same caliber (7.62x51mm NATO). It didnt work for me. I had a FAL equipped and when right-clicking a DRM clip i dint get any convert option.

Players on maps have nothing to do with GPS. According to my experience it's a serverside difficulty setting. On "easy" servers you can see your teammates' and your own position on the map while on servers with higher difficulty setting you cant. Other serverside ways to change the difficulty/realism are enabling/disabling crosshairs (ch), 3rd person view, nametags or global chat. Usually the server settings are mentioned somewhere in the server name (or at least some sort of general classification (i.e. veteran, expert or whatnot)
