multiple issues, new to the game.
Mallory (DayZ) replied to 2PieceCombo's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
the error about the weapon config file is nothing serious - just click "ok" or whatever the button says and ignore it... the six updater does take care of it all for you - if you "tell him what you want taken care of". there is loads of video guides on how to install dayz on youtube go check them out (yes - if there is a need for a guide on how to properly install a piece of software it means the installation process should be reviewed). this one here for instance is a very detailed description on what to do with the six updater: edit: link should work now - sorry about that. -

i recommend using the six updater tool - it's awesome for keeping your game files up to date. i had some issues when i started playing and this tool (despite me being sceptical about any tools) is something i wouldn't wnt to miss. -
best way to Stream DayZ with Xsplit?
Mallory (DayZ) replied to ArmyyStrongg's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Did you try using the method i described above? Open the file and change the mentioned values to those appropriate for your screen. Then save the file and run the game. In case it's not obvious enough what value does what... The winx and winy values control the upper left corner of the window. (0,0 is the upper left corner of your screen, increasing numbers go down/right) The winh and winw values control the height and width of the window. (I am fairly sure it is the actual window content without the frame around it - that's why i dont use 0,0 as upper left corner or 1920 as width) Figureing out what values work for your screen and or windows version/style should take 10min tops... -

Diff Character on diff servers?
Mallory (DayZ) replied to razorman's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Your character should be the same on all servers - you should be at the same spot where you logged off the last time, have the same equipment, same zombie/player-kill numbers and the same blood level... Things that vary at the moment are numbers of rounds in clips (half empty clips usually get refilled upon relogging - sometimes they dissappear tho - apparently this will be fixed in the next version) and the look of civilian clothing may vary between logins (2 players might also see different civilian clothing on the same player at the same time). Special things happen when you log off while being in the "shock" state... so avoid that at all costs. If you have different/no stuff on a server that server is probably not connected to the central dayz server which stores your character. -
According to the more detailed article on wikipedia the MP5SD actually fires supersonic rounds subsonically (if that is a word). This is achieved by several holes in the barrel which divert part of the gas so that less pressure is available for accelerating the bullet => the standard supersonic projectile leaves the muzzle at subsonic speed => no sonic bang http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bd/Patent_DE1553874_07-Oct-1971_Handfeuerwaffe_mit_Schalldaempfer_Heckler_und_Koch.png This picture (used in one of HK's patents, taken from the german wikipedia article) shows those holes and the inside of the suppressor - apparently those holes where somewhat changed in the production state of the weapon. Using standard ammo the sound will be 70 dB. Using subsonic ammo the velocity will decrease even further (as not all of the ernergy available will be used to acelerate the bullet) reducing the sound by 1 dB (compared to standard ammo) - the "cost" however is 16-26% of the velocity which reduces the energy of the projectile by 29-45% (numbers taken from the german wiki article) tl;dr the standard ammo is fired subsonically with this weapon -> the gain from using subsonic ammo is hardly worth it considering the loss in energy. On the matter as why rocket put the subsonic 9 x 19 mm into the game: 1) He probably didn't - I guess the weapons were just taken from Arma 2 w/o too much thought. So they were there to begin with and then that requirement wasn't taken out (for the MP5SD) 2) They are needed for the silenced M9 so the bullets themselves should be in game 3) some developer probably thought that they were also needed for the MP5SD - which they are not... I may be wrong about the whole thing as i have never fired a MP5SD but that is the information on the topic that i could gather in linke 5min...
-
Well, actually the MP5SD (the one with the integrated suppressor) was designed to fire standard supersonic ammunition. Source: HK website - http://www.heckler-k...d/overview.html tl;dr [...]Unlike most conventional silenced submachine guns, it fires standard ammunition types with the same effect. The use of special subsonic ammunition is not necessary.[...] So there is no need for the special subsonic ammo for the MP5 to be ingame at all as far as realism is concerned. I guess the reason for it being in the game is balancing (to make it more valuable as it offers a huge advantage) or an oversight.

You can run the game windowed on any solution you want. HAve a look at my post in this thread. http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=25240

well you are in the debug plains... (which is basically way way out of the normal map) solutions: 1) if you dont have any gear worth saving on respawning is probably the best thing to do 2) if you want to save any gear you have you need to run back into the normal map. gps, compass or map will help you with that. if you have a compass just run south east until you hit the actual map or a coastline then follow the coastline until you hit the actual map if you have a map switch to an "easy server" that has waypoints enabled, drop a waypoint on your map (shift click) and run towards it. here is also a video about somebody getting out of there:

I have a save game problem with two computers
Mallory (DayZ) replied to TLGalehondr0's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Well, your character is bound to your CD key and that key is stored in the registry. Don't know exactely where it is but you should be able to find guides on how to edit it - cba to look for them myself at the moment but that should point you in the right direction... -

best way to Stream DayZ with Xsplit?
Mallory (DayZ) replied to ArmyyStrongg's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Here's a tutorial to streaming stuff with xsplit... (in case you are doing something wrong on the xsplit side) Are you running dayz in windowed mode? Then it shouldn't be different than streaming any other content. To run dayz in windowed mode do the following: 1) go to the folder C:\Users\\Documents\ArmA 2 (or the respective folder on your system) 2) open the file arma2oa.cfg 3) add/edit the following lines: Windowed=1; winX=10; winY=31; winW=1900; winH=1000; 4) those numbers are for runnning it on a 1920x1080 screen with the game filling up all the space above the windows taskbar. If you either have a different size screen or want a different behavior play around with the numbers a bit until you get what you want. -
Buying Arma 2 /Arrow Head to play!
Mallory (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
For the record: DayZ works with Arma2free. However with the extra cost for the full arma being only 3-4 € that might be the "better" option. -
Buying Arma 2 /Arrow Head to play!
Mallory (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
Well Arma II:OA costs 15 € on steam. At the moment there is a special offer for Arma II:CO on the BIS store though (18.74 € instead of 24.99 €). https://store.bistudio.com/arma2-combined-operations => if I had to make that decision right now i'd probably go for that special offer. -
This mod is too hard for new players.
Mallory (DayZ) replied to abstract (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
hope that helps with finding your position on the map... http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=24613 -
a primary weapon requires 10 slots in your inventory (w/o ammo). the way to switch is the following: always take the weapon that is in your backup out of the backback and let the game put the other one in it (the game will handle the ammo automatically). Or in other words never put stuff in a full backpack. With the hatchet it's a bit of a different stoy as you are able to put that on your toolbelt (rightclick it when you have it as your primary weapon). You can chop firewood without actually equipping it by rightclicking the axe on your toolbelt. You do, however, need 2 inventory spots to store the gathered wood so that you can prepare the fire (rightclick the matches), then look at the fireplace and mousewhell to "light fire", then you can cook all meat in your primary inventory by looking at the burning fire and mousewhelling to "cook meat".

What can i say, I just felt like pointing out that the solution you proposed ("... renting servers with the intent of excluding bandits ...") is not going to yield the desired results before somebody actually spends money on that. I also thought that including the reasons why it won't work would be much better than just saying "What you plan to do will most likely not fix any of the issues you have with people killing you.") I agree with you "power in numbers is key" - in fact the first thing that came to my mind when a friend told me about this game was "wow - this is going to be amazing when you play it with a group of people". However my argument that there are no friendly servers (only friendly players) still stands because even a server that was filled with only friendly players one day might get hit by a well geared and organized pvp squad the next day and anything that comes their way will most likely be obliterated because teamwork is even more key than numbers. Teamwork and gaining tactical advantages and then cashing in on those will beat numbers any day... And that is (at least in my opinion) a very good thing.

1) Online maps such as http://dayzmap.info are a great help. There are many other maps like it so just pick the one you like best (google "dayz map" or "chernarus map"). The ones made specifically for dayz also include all the spawn points for loot. 2) as soon as you log in you get a hint as to where you are (box in th lower right corner, the 2nd line gives you the name of the closest town / point of interest). 3) find that town mentioned in the box on the map, look anround you for landmarks (treelines, streets, coastlines, powerlines, shape of the terrain, buildings...) to pinpoint your position on the map.
-
Also downed helicopters can spawn with boxes of medical supplies. But then again if you are playing mostly on your own (sounds like it from what you stated) bloodbags won't do you any good as you can apply them only to other players. So forget about those in case that assumption is true. Rely on cooked meat (hatchet, knife and matches needed to get those) to keep your blood up. As terrex already said morphine can spawn pretty much anywhere so you don't really have to venture into cities or other hotspots for that.

How do I change from First person to third person?
Mallory (DayZ) replied to Lindail's topic in New Player Discussion
To sum it up: The default key is Enter (on the numpad). If you dont have that key on your keyboard or are unhappy with the choice you can reassign a new key in your control settings. The appropriate entry there is called "toggle view". Keep in mind that 3rd person view may be disabled on the server you are on. Server settings concerning crosshairs and 3rd person view are usually mentioned in the servername. -
No, upon pressing "n", you will activate the thermal scope which allows you to see all "living beings" colored in a bright white against a red background. The scope has also 2 zoomlevels. So no - there is no normal scope - only nightvision and godmode.

Where can I find Blood Transfusion?
Mallory (DayZ) replied to Qassie's topic in New Player Discussion
Blood transfusions can be available at hospitals, downed helicopters and other players (in case they picked one up earlier). Also keep in mind that you cannot apply a transfusion to yourself - only to other players. When you are playing on your own the best way to get your health up is finding a hatchet, a hunting knife and matches. Killing animals and having a little barbeque gives you meat that restores 800 blood per item instead of the 200 the canned food gives. One cow gives 8 pieces of meat (smaller animals give less). -
How exactly are you planning to keep the bandits off "your" server? What are you planning to do in the "odd case" where someone does get shot? How do you intent to identify the guy who shot and what would your response be? And more importantly how do you intent to get the server-software/access to the hive from the dev team when they are pretty much pro "same-rights-for-everybody-including-the-admins" and servers are seen more as a donnation to the community and less like a place of your own where you can do whatever the hell you want and your intention is to exclude a whole group of players from "your" server to start with? Questions over questions... I guess what I'm trieing to say is, there isn't and there probably won't be a friendly server with no blue on blue fire and trieing to enforce one by repeatedly kicking players who shoot other players or who are not "part of your group" is probably one of the safest way to lose access to the central database. Where do i get all that from? http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=3593
