Similar thing happened to me yesterday. With a healthy well equiped character I joined the same server as the day before, and I'm passout and dying when I join. Only 2 guys on the server. They may have been hacks and teleported to me before I could move. (You character will appear in game before you actually do. So anyone with a teleport hack can kill you before you even get in the game.) Or it might be a corrupted Arma2 beta, or DayZ Commander doing one of it's glitchy attempts at connecting to the game.

Just listening to the arragance of the moderaters is enought to turn anyone off this game. Can't discuss this, can't discuss that. Really, are you guys that freaking paranoid. Worry more about people getting hacked and getting the game out the door rather than stopping people from trying to play it. Can't wait tell the standalone, then the mod can be delt with properly.

What's wrong with "bandits" in this game?
2ugly replied to yoshez's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes it a zoombie apocalypse. In real life when I put a bandit down. He doesn't respawn and start causing more problems for the civilized population. They better put a SP version of the game in stand-alone, or a lot of people will not buy it. Most people, or back in the day before MP was popular, we played to get away from the asshats in real life. If we are going to be forced to play with them, a lot will just bypass the game and look elsewhere. But it is always nice experience to have a bandit tailing you from a distance. You discover him hunting you down when he makes a dumb mistake, and you cap him before he gets a chance..... That is always a very nice feeling, as you stand over his corpse wishing you could piss in his face. -
takin a shit in the standalone

If you don't crap, and your crap indicator is flashing you will start farting, which can agro zeds and alert bandits. After 10 mins of farting your character will spontanously drop a load in their pants causing a brown stain signifying to others their inability to properly relieve their bowels. This will also attrack more zeds until the player can use water to clean himself up. Dried crap found can be used for building fires. Steaming crap can be used to track another player, or for warmth if you're cold. Crap dries in 2 hours. If you step in it before entering a town zeds will agro 20% easier, unless you wait 15min to allow the stench to wear off. Your stench indicator will flash when you need a bath or have stepped in fresh crap. We should grow beards too, and have to shave. Hope none of this happens in the stand alone, but is fun to yap about the what ifs. All simulators can be considered games, but not all games can be considered simulators. And many that consider themselves to be one are far from it. Any game that allows a 3rd person view to be on constantly while ingame is not simulating. That's called remote control, and the simulation is lost. Immersion is only complete within the simulation. Many gamers are too scared to be that immersed and prefer the 3rd person view, while saying it's easier to see that way. Again immersion and simulation lost. Easier to see because you're too damn scared to do it correctly. You can't see that guy coming if you're prone on the roof. Like in real life you'd have to stand and look. It's akin to cheating, but allowed in Dayz on most servers. On servers that allow it, they are playing a game, and you can't tell who is using the built in cheat. Luckily there are 2 servers that I've found that are FP only. Just my dumb opinion. -
Is there any way of exploring Chernarus offline without zombies?
2ugly replied to HHRoblox's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hope he knows he'll need to start the game without the DayZ mod running. (Ahh missed Valk...response) When you installed the beta it also installed a "_runA2CO_beta.com" file that you can use. It is located in the Arma2 OA game folder. You can edit this file to change some of the load perameters (-windowed), but it will be replaced if you ever verify your game files in Steam. -
Did you install the Arma2 beta patch also? They maybe running a different beta patch then what you have installed. You can use DayZ Commander to update everything. If you don't like DayZ commander because it uses the bug ridden Netframe work, just use if for the updates only.

There's always a tide. In a persistent online only world harckers will and can ruin the game. What's the point of playing unless you are hacking, or have your server locked down to keep them out. Hence the necessity for a single player version which if not included in the stand alone version will keep many from even bothering with the game. What BF3 did to their SP version completely ruined it for me. What a waste that game was, completely CoDified.

You forgot the bandit that shot him twice before he was ever made it off the coast. Then you fogot the hacker who teleported him to nowhere land. That is more common event then then this misleading story. Ohh the stand alone you are talking about.... maybe that will be a better experience. After reading the story. It would probably be about an hour long opening cut scene. I don't want cut scences ruining my game. I don't want cut scences at all. This is not hollywood, it's a game. Hollywood has already screwed the industry up enough as it is. How do you have a rifle on the shoulder and one in your hand? You don't give Rocket enough credit. He wouldn't yell "friendly" after being shot at, especially by a bandit.... That makes no sence. Makes him sound week. Rocket would have yelled "Die you barbaric asshat", lined up the shot and ended the bandits life.

You ought to convert. There is a religion out there with the same mentality.

Just as in real life 99.9% of the people are evil assholes who will lie cheat and steal their way to their destination. You are only as good as you are needed, after that you are fodder unless you have resources. Which they usually make sure you have none. Typical in game and life. If you think different you are one of the aholes.

The devs were a little anal in their hygienic tastes for how you can consume liquid. You might pass the infection if they allowed you to drink directly from a well or pond, and how dare you pick up that filthy wiskey bottle or tin can and try to use that to drink out of. You might catch something. What are you thinking. Not to mention the compulsive dissorder behaviour of having to use the inventory system to do any of this.

Go to your Arama2OA dir and double click "_runA2co_beta.com". It will run in windowed mode. You can edit the file and delete the "windowed" entry. Or go to your Arma2OA/expansions/beta folder. Find the arma2oa.exe and double click. Either way it runs the game without having to use Steam if you just want to mess around with the actual game. If you edit the "_runA2co_beta.com" file and have to verify your game files on Steam, it will overwrite the edited file. To avoid this copy and paste the .com file Change the name of the copied file keeping the .com part. Edit it to run the way you like. Then make a short cut to it on your desktop. (this may only happen if you edit the _runa2co.com file.) Try a MP solo CTI mission, or one of the other mission types that randomly generate objectives on one of the maps. The more you accomplish the more money you get to buy more stuff. You can exit and load back in where you left off. Or just load up the editor drop a chopper in and fly around to look at the area. I think this problem is related to Dayz Commander. It does some weird stuff. Something to do with how it uses Netframework. It can interfer with other software that also uses it.

Valuable in what way? How not to dev a game.... hopefully. So DayZ doesn't wind up like all the other games on the market. If they tell you, "You need to think about the console market"..... slap them.

DayZ 1.7.2.4 Horrible texture bug!
2ugly replied to FlatulentRemedies's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I started noticing the stretched textures around Green Mountain. When my bud was in front of me I in his ghilie suit I would see triangle shapes above him. They would bob up and down as he moved. When we got closer to the top of the mountain we both saw them coming from the dead soldiers. I was seeing some strange looking archetectural sculpture of colored triangles about 20 feet high. He was seeing something similar. Seemed like it was also coming from debri piles. First time I've seen it this bad. When you get close enough they would render correctly, and then get crazy again once you were far enough away. We figured it was probably related to the server, but maybe it's this latest beta patch. -
The glitches in their inventory system are atrocious. For a game that wants to promote reality items dissappear into thin air on a regular basis. When you try to move inventory, for some reason your ammo miraculously moves itself, and if there isn't enough room for the ammo and the weapon you are trying to move your weapon will disappear,, that is very realistic. They need to ditch a whole bunch of this glitchy mechanics,,,, problem is I see that the Arma3 engine apparently isn't any different. Still the same horrible inventory interface..... Makes me wonder about their intelligence.

Impressed by latest version of Dayz Commander
2ugly replied to Sula's topic in New Player Discussion
I said I'd use it. I think that's a recommendation. As implied it's specific to using DayZ Commander when using the Setpoint software to program the mouse buttons. I believe it has something to do with both using net framework. Otherwise we all should use DayZ Commander. I use it to find friends, and servers, exit and then start the game. Just wish I knew how to fix it. It might be that DayZ Commander starts the game before completely shutting itself down (if you have that option checked) rendering the Setpoint software useless. If there was a way to set up a lag in the start of the game after clicking on a server to allow it to make sure it is not running before the game is started that would be nice. HMMMM>...... maybe a solution. DayZ Commander surely runs the command file instead of the executable. There should be a way to introduce a few seconds into that before it runs the executable. Not sure how to go about doing that though. Nope just checked it runs the .exe directly. Wonder if there is a way to make it run the .com instead. Ahhhh solved it. If I run it with the Launch using Steam option checked it takes longer and allows DayZ Commander to completely exit. Yeah!!!. -
Impressed by latest version of Dayz Commander
2ugly replied to Sula's topic in New Player Discussion
I'd use it but it kills the programmed mouse buttons when it runs, and in the game. I use a Logitech G5, and have 5 buttons programed for key commands when the game runs. Even If I program the buttons directly instead of them being applied when the armaOA.exe is executed the buttons are not recognized in game.... Buttons work as they should without using Dayz Commander, so it is something specific with it. Haven't seen anyone else with this problem though. -
I thought you hated this game. The hacking sounds so bad now I haven't logged in over a week. Don't see a point in wasting all the time just to be hacked. I'll wait until they can gaurantee this will not happen. Which will be never, so... just wait for the single player version. That way you don't have to worry about hacks or asshats, which are prevelant in just about every MP game there is. I saw the growth of MP when all the devs were skeptical about adding MP to their game. Now it's do we add SP to our MP game. Eventually it will swing back the other way, when the only ones left playing MP are the hacks and asshats, who probably pirated the game to begin with.

This happened to me once when I put a .pbo from a different mod into a location it shouldn't have gone when trying to get the mod to work.

Hackers, and the state of the standalone game?
2ugly replied to KetchupOnTheDog's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hence the necessity for a SP version in the stand alone. As long as there is a SP version that matches the MP version in gameplay I can always play when I want instead of having the problems associated with MP only games. For a game like DayZ it wouldn't be that hard to do at all, as proven by the previous SP version. For MP the ability to have a persistent character with permadeath will always be risky, and one reason why it hasn't really been attempted. 3 hives, one for SP, one for direct connect/LAN COOP, one for MP, with the ability to save your MP character to either the the SP or COOP hive upon the death of your MP character. -
Start a MP game LAN. Select Cherno as the map and Super Powers as the mission. When you get in the match vote for the AI as the commander, unless you want to try that yourself. Best to do the tuts first. I didn't even know this element existed in Arma. Reminds me a great deal of the first time I played the BF1942 demo being dropped in El Alamein and not really knowing what to do while seeing all this stuff going on around you, but on a much grander scale. Awesome way to pass the time. Create your own squad, give them orders. Buy weapons, vehicles, or aircraft if you've captured an airbase. Set up how many cities you have to capture to win, or find their HQ and destroy it, preferably in an A-10. Cool stuff.
-
I don't think one of those exist either. Just join a server with hardly anyone on it, around 15 or below is good if you're just starting out solo. Or just wait until the other game like Dayz comes out that has a few rules, but may not be anywhere near as fun some, or for the knuckledraggers. Will be fun to see how DayZ winds up when the only players left will be the bandits, and they have no one left to shoot but each other, or has that already happened..

Yes the HDR as used in most games along with bloom effects usually create an unrealistic view as if I'm suppose to be looking through a camera lens instead of the characters eyes. Very distracting and disturbingly bad in some games. Just be glad in Arma they don't force the player to hold a sheet of glass 2ft from their face constantly as in BF3. The Hollywood camera effects should be only used in 3rd person games where the view through a camera actually makes sense. Arma isn't near as bad, but they still make your eyes feel like you just woke up out of bed no matter what time it is. Try turning the HDR off. Exit the game. Start it back up and test it while HDR is off. Then slide the HDR slider up one notch, and test that setting.

A few questions about the mod before i get going
2ugly replied to DNA216's topic in New Player Discussion
Use your mic. Hit the "," or "." to change to the "direct channel" for earshot communication if you see someone, but before you do have your weapon pointed at them ready to fire. If they see you first and say nothing most likely they were sneaking up on you so shoot them instantly, -
Don't even want to point out all the faulty logic going on here. By these standards on birth we should die. But DayZ logic is illogical....so it fits.
