1st person only, waypoints, what more?

Personally, if first person didn't completely suck I would probably prefer it too. I usually hate 3rd person in games and I'm just naturally used to using first person in shooters. I've turned off the head bob, which helps, but I still can't stand it.. Fells like you are 3 inches tall. Will messing the FoV fix this, because if not, I don't really care what changes it makes. I will never use midget mode. Also LOL @ the person saying 3rd person is exploiting.
  2. First I want to say I will not advertise, link, or ask for support of any unofficial servers at the moderators request. I understand that it is okay to talk about private servers/hives now, and I am glad because I have been waiting to start this topic for a while now. Please, to anyone that replies, respect their wishes and do the same. I have been trying out a few private servers lately, and some of them have a nice little feature. I'm not exactly sure how it works, but when we get the bigger hacks ( whole sever teleported into the sky, thunderdomed, etc) the admins will shut the server down with a command. It will pretty much act like a server restart, but somehow they rollback to an earlier save. When the server comes back up (usually in less than 5 minutes) everything is fine and the hacker has been found and banned. You will be in the spot you were at before you were moved, you will have all your gear, and even if you die it will be like it never happened. So basically, hacking = fixed. Okay, I imagine this will not weed out hackers all together. If they are careful about it and don't get greedy no one will really have a clue they exist. However, in the current state of DayZ, even slightly fixing the problem is a FN miracle IMO. I'm sure everyone would agree with me on that. This seems to at least get rid of the worst kind of hacking, like the game breaking stuff that everyone hates. I constantly read people saying that hackers can't be dealt with in this mod while I am staring a solution right in the face. I'm just not sure why this is not being used officially, of if it can even be done. Now that I have put this out there on to my only question. Why can't official servers do this?

Why can't offical servers rollback? (A "fix" for hacking)

Good to know, but I won't hold my breath waiting for battleye to help us out. I just figured this is some basic computer/programing thing that I fail to understand. If there was a solution I doubt this post is going to be a wake up call or something and lead to fixing the problem. I'm just curious.

So Who Do You Think The Hackers Really Are?

I won't lie, I've considered the same thing.. Hire (probably don't even have to pay, just find fanboys) a small team to just completely break the game right before you release your very similar game. Still, I've thought about aliens having bases on the moon too, its a nice idea but probably not ture. In reality the hackers are mostly group players, "friends" of clans and server admins. They just set up a 2nd "hacking" account to do all the dirty work, then when the bans and threats start getting thrown around they use the lines "None of my clan has ever hacked in anything". I find it hard to believe, with all the admins abusing their power, that they wouldn't also buy "hacks". I mean, they are paying $50+ a month to host their own server to cheat, but you don't think they would buy a hacking program for $30, or a new CD key? Its cheaper than running your own server, and once you have them just pick a server and you now run it.
  6. Twice in the same day huh. Must be random, its not like this was the day after OP posted this or anything. From OP: "Date/Time: 8/12/12 approximately three hours ago around 3:30 PM."

DayZ: The state of death, and the Great Storage debate

I have no idea what your point is exactly. Especially I was only replying to this post by you. Thanks for your support I guess.. maybe??? You prove our point perfectly, people like you will always exist and even when mechanics are put in place to stop you, there will always be that sense of entitlement that you are special and the rules don't apply. I am just saying people should not play a game that involves spending time gearing up if you do not want to play a game that involves spending time gearing up. Does that make sense? Go play a game where you start with the best gear if that's what you want, there are 8,312,403,104 of them out there. Let us enjoy the 1 game that isn't just another FPS.
  8. I am the admin of DE 1250. -Hackers prolly, idk I got shot -Join a new server if you want one that follows rules -FU MINE Ok, not really but I wanted to save you the time of waiting for the admins response.

DayZ: The state of death, and the Great Storage debate

I've said it before. If this is not on a very important list of things to fix at some point, then we are in trouble. I'm not saying it should even be on the radar at the moment, but something as simple as storage could make or break a game like DayZ IMO. I agree there are some decent ideas out there already, it just gets to me that people are so quick to write them for no reason instead of improving on them somehow. I mean we need people to find holes in ideas and figure out how they would be exploited in their new state just as much as we need to actually come up with the ideas. That is the exact problem we are trying to solve. You are killing people with no fear of death while they do fear it. Why do you think their reasons for fearing death are any different from your reasons for cheating it? They don't care if you kill them because they move 100yds back to the coast, they care because they will lose all their good gear and/or wasted time. Its the same thing, you just use an advantage to get around it because it doesn't suit you. People say don't get attached to your gear, but I hope that everyone is only saying that because we are in alpha. Your character means absolutely nothing unless you care about kill/days survived counts. Even if DayZ forces you to care about death because you don't want to waste all your gaming time running and/or lose that rare weapon, it is still accomplished its mission IMO. Get attached to your gear, fear death because it means hours of walking to get back to that same point, but don't be a ***** and just avoid the mechanic because you don't like it. If you want a game where you don't have to spend hours getting the best gear to go kill people, I'm sure the community can point you towards a game that is exactly like that. I hate to be that guy, but it definitely sounds like you should go play one of those games.
  10. Here is a solution that I would use if I was the admin in this spot. "Sorry, I was wrong. I am just a little paranoid with all the hacking. You know where all the stuff is, you found it legit, so take 10 minutes and do/take whatever you want. It would be cool if you don't blow up everything, but if you want to that's your call" This would solve 99% of these "mix ups" that seem to happen all the time. However we all know kids like this will already have all their stuff moved to a new save location and would never give up their stuff to the mean guy who calls them out on the forums. Maybe I'm just dreaming with this idea, but it seems a little better than the admins idea: "]Whatever, I do what I want. FU BRO! Anytime I get shot it must be a hacker.. Its my server, me, MINE.. Go away so my mature 21yo friends can play in peace"

DayZ: The state of death, and the Great Storage debate

I don't really think people want tents removed from DayZ forever, just the mod in its current state. At least I have never read that argument. Just that they need to be fixed or removed until they are fixed, even if its standalone. I am the first one who will argue that the current idea of tents is broken, and that maybe they should be removed for now, but I still love the idea of them. I would hate to see a final product where they pretty much say, "sorry they don't work so we removed them". I just hope we can have a civil discussion on the matter and find an idea that works, and then just hope the Devs listen and can pull it off. I mean, if we as a community can not figure out a solution, then their must not be one. I find that hard to believe.

    Dayz Standalone doesnt support Win95//98

It's nice right? If this post was about WarZ it would be moved/deleted in seconds. I will report the troll, lets see how long it takes for something (if anything) to happen.

Weapons will not go inside tent / ammo limit

http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/Tent A tent can hold: 10 - Weapons (any kind) and/or tools 50 - general items 5 - backpacks Yes that is combined, so you can have 10 guns/tools, 50 random items, and 5 backpacks at the same time.

    About barbed wire complainers

Cool, now are you going to come back every 6 hours after a server restart and do it again? Also what happens when I kill you and take your toolbox? Or you can't even see because of the graphic glitches? ETC.. Yeah, barbed wire is fun, stop complaining.

    Why I host a non-hive server

Oh I get your point exactly. Your love for the game and the creator have caused you to act in a way you normally wouldn't in other, everyday aspects of your life.. People are disrespecting him and that bothers you. We should make up a word for people like you, we can call them a fanboy or something like that. The problem is presentation, how you are coming off while you are trying to defend them. It just looks make you look like a giant hypocrite. See below. Looks like someone did read all your posts, love the first one BTW.. Now don't you have some damn skateboarding kids on your lawn to go yell at?
  16. syncmaster (DayZ)

    Why I host a non-hive server

You seem to feel very strongly about this. Is this just specific to DayZ or do you use the same line of thought in every aspect of life and follow all rules/laws blindly? Also going to assume you have never watched a pirated movie in your life and would refuse if someone ever offered. Also I'm guessing you are have never downloaded a MP3, TV show, or anything else that you didn't pay for. I'm sure you don't even have torrents installed on your computer.. So basically we have a hardcore life nit who has never done anything wrong or broken a rule, but happens to post on the interent all day and play games involving killing players.. Yeah, that's what I thought Mr. Hypocrite
  17. I don't know what sucks more. The fact that there seems to be never ending loopholes to destroy every game or the fact that people already can name the next one before it even exists. I wish people would just stop breaking games but that will never happen. Just goes to show that you can never have a true sandbox, there have to be some rules and limitations.
  18. To the above post (Sad Panda), you have a good point. Its just such a touchy issue like you mentioned. If its not handled right it will cause just as many problems as it fixes. I just hope topics like this make the devs realize that someone as small as tent/car storage could make or break the game for a lot of us. While letting people who WANT to break the game rule the world. I can't even begin to think of a good solution that is fair to everyone, so I hope they are brainstorming the hell out of this at some point. I am personally in the group that likes tents a lot. However, I might be the only one on this game who has never visited a tent/car I owned after I was killed (not counting a few hacking incidents) . As far as I'm concerned its gone. I will leave it there for someone else to find. Its just sad that I have to force myself to accept permadeath instead of the game forcing me to. I don't think cheating death was what Rocket had in mind when he told us to do whatever we want.
  19. Yeah I have no idea what we are going to do when the "hardcore" crowd has to actually play the game and they all quit. Man I wish I could give beans on my phone. You and OP should never go hungry again.
  20. Great op! I agree with it all. People seem to take what they don't like about the mod and exploit around it. I'm not sure what reasoning they use, and I expect not all of them play this wayin other games. It's just one of those things about dayz.

    Why I help unarmed players

I've tried this but people won't take my stuff. Its weird.. First guy runs into a building surprising me and I unload on him with my pistol. I wounded him pretty bad but he doesn't die, and once I notice he is unarmed I apologized and offered to give him my gun. He refused and left. Another time a similar thing happened in a barn. We both had guns but didn't shot at each other. Instead we both just picked a side and stating looting, until the other guy ran down the stairs to fast and broke his leg. I come over to give him some morphine and he says don't bother, and if I wouldn't mind just kill him.

    Don't call while flying.

I guess there is a good reason pilots tells you to turn of your phones during takeoff/landing

Why I like to play on private hive server

I have no idea how they do it exactly. I know they have a whitelist (which anyone can join) that seems to keep a lot of the hackers from not bothering with that server in the first place. When one does get though, the server will instantly shut down. Then come back in a few minutes and everything will be back to normal. If a hacker killed us all or moved us to 1 spot, we will be back in our original spots with gear/same character after the restart. Like I said, no idea how they do it but its impressive considering many believe it can't be done.

Why I like to play on private hive server

My favorite part is how the admins have figured out how to fix the hacking problem. Considering most of this community will tell you that can't be done, I find it very impressive. Not much. I mean if they set up a server just for their clan I'm sure they would get bored quick. If they let in randoms but they are abusive they will not get many regular players. I hoped we could get something like this for the official game and let us police our self. I will be the first to admit it is a horrible solution but even horrible ranks about 100x better than battleeye.
  25. Yep, anyone that disagrees with you must be trolling. Sorry I offended offended you, I will stop. Didn't mean to be rude, like calling everyone carebears and pointing out post/bean counts like they matter.
