  1. The issue with DayZ (well ArmA 2 in general) is if you have stuff set to low or very low it decides to push the work load over to the CPU. So if shadows are on very low the CPU picks up the bearing instead of the GPU (which should) so I run something like this.

Vsync ON: Vsync really helps MAINTAIN performance by synchronizing the FPS of the game to the Hz of your monitor. Also without it can cause some serious issues with LCD monitors.

Post Processing OFF: Resource HOG! and the nausea inducing motion blur is well... nausea inducing.

Video Memory DEFAULT: This is because you actually access more GPU memory through DEFAULT than you do on VERY HIGH

AntiAliasing OFF: While it looks pretty that the edges are nice and sharp AA is a resource HOG.

Launch Options: -nosplash, -cpucount=2 (dual core) -cpucount=4 (quad core) ArmA 2 doesn't like to access all your CPU cores for some reason.

Hyper threading: This is only an issue with i7 processors mainly.

Run as Admin: Meh, why not. Vista and 7 always have "run as admin" issues. I use Xp (Like a boss)

View Distance: I lower mine to about 950, somewhere around 1000 gives a good balance between performance and being able to see a sniper.

Other than that fiddle with some of the settings moving them from very low to high and see your performance gains or losses!

    Hope this helps my friend!

Would cpucount=6 be alright for a 6 core cpu? I've got a Phenom II X6 1045t 2.7, but would it even matter adding that line in to sixlauncher or commander?

  2. I have to preface this with saying how much I love playing lone wolf-style survival style. I enjoy just moving from town to town on my own and just trying to last as long as possible.

That being said, occasionally after I lose a multi-day character, I just want to fuck about and have some fun. A great way to do that is to head into a major town (usually Cherno) and gather up an Enfield with massive amounts of ammo, a sidearm, a bigger pack to store more ammo/supplies. Head to a location where I can funnel zombies and just start firing away. This of course draws the attention of everyone in town, as well as all of the zombies. The best way is to find a place that you can climb a ladder to, and tag zombies from pretty far away.

Of course, eventually someone will shoot me, and that's totally fine with me. I just want to see how many zombies I can kill in the middle of Cherno/Elektro, without using any form of stealth before someone kills me.

Today, I got up to 82 zombie kills before a player got me. I don't kill players unless I have to (sans one time), but I just think of it as my own "wave" style gameplay. Plus, whenever someone kills me, they can loot my body for tons of supplies and ammo, so it's kind of a win-win.

Do any of you have any sort of "mini-games" that you play solo or with friends?

  3. Damn. Just like that, my 3 day character with loads of gear was shot in cold blood with no warning.

I was just exploring the map up north and got some water from the dam. I went back down south into the woods just a bit and was going to head west and just see what I could find. I happened across a bunch of tents. Instead of even coming close to looting, I saw them, turned around and ran away.

I was clearly not a threat, but I kept running a bit and suddenly 3 shots rang out and I was on the ground.

This is what I don't understand. I am sure there was more than one player in that area, and if they were watching me, they saw that I noticed their camp and booked it out of there to avoid confrontation.

    Bummer.

  4. Why do you murder? Coz every stupid cunt shoots at me even if I dont have any weapons.

This mod is dead. Its COD now. Everyone shoots on sight. Retards. Bring back bandit skins and fix it better so that you can kill in self defense. Rage out.

I would suspect that your Day Z experience is directly related to your attitude. You presume that everyone is evil and going to kill you. In reality, not everyone is. I am one of the types of players who do not shoot on sight. I don't use my gun unless I either have to, or to take out zombies who have my back against a wall.

  5. I do it because i can't trust anybody else other than my friends.

Last time i tried to be friendly' date=' i had my head blown off couple times.

    [/quote']

Ah! I've seen this mentality more times than I can count in my short experiences with this game. "I cannot trust anyone."

I could not agree more. Unless you're playing with established friends and perhaps using outside VOIP to communicate, you really can't trust anyone. A person can say that they need your help only to shoot you in the back, or claim friendly with no intentions of hospitality.

However, I want to keep faith that all players are inherently good. I know this is not the case as everyone has a different mentality. I would just like to believe that when I run into another player in the wilderness, we could work together and stock loot and make a damn good team. Though, this is largely unlikely as it seems there are more bandits than friendlies in this game.

  6. Why not?

Because perhaps the person you just killed had amassed days of play into one character. Maybe they were fresh spawns and just trying to mind their own business.

I don't know that I have a logical answer for that, other than my own biased opinion of "because it just feels wrong" for me to kill other players without warrant.

This is what I enjoy about this game as well. I'm never forced to kill another user (except maybe in self defense). I try to keep to myself and avoid players, but i've definitely been sniped while just wandering the map. I've also been killed point blank after having a quick chat with someone to confirm out intentions. Although that player clearly lied and had intentions to kill me when I had no gear anyways.

  7. I searched but couldn't find any similar threads.

For those who decide to defect to bandit status: Why do you kill other players? What do you get out of it, besides supplies?

This is not a thread intended to troll anyone, or coming from any form of ange/butthurt. I am genuinely curious why I see so many posts/videos of bandits sniping or shooting non-threatening players.

I'm a relatively new Day Z player (2 weeks-ish) and I've yet to actually kill another player. I have no desire to either. I did however, shoot one player for firing at me. He did not die though.

I just don't see the other side. I realize that some users play this game with the specific intent to kill other users, but it has never been my intent with playing Day Z. I'd rather find some friendly players and work together. Since the game is not centered directly around a PVP play style, I thought I would flat out ask why and for what reasons have you/do you kill other players?

  8. Send more paramedics...ahem i mean post more videos!

I enjoyed the 1st episode. Only advice from me would be to try & give out a few more game play tips (for noobs like me). For example i dont think you mentioned that the hatchet can also be used for chopping wood & what purpose this serves etc.

Alright I will definitely keep that in mind!

I hope to be rolling out a new episode every few days if possible.

  9. I am sorry about the quality. I went back and reviewed my edited, source video on my pc and it looks great. It does NOT look at all like what is on youtube and I am trying to figure out exactly why that is.

This is what the final rendered product looks like on my pc: http://i.imgur.com/D6cmU.jpg

This is what that same exact product looks like on youtube: http://i.imgur.com/3t48f.jpg

What a bummer that you folks have to watch it like this. I am trying to find out what is causing this severe degradation in quality. If anyone has any tips or knows what causes this, feel free to pm me and let me know.

  10. Some servers have it enabled' date=' usually the servers not on Veteran mode. And when it says "man" it's more likely a zombie. The only way they can see you on their maps is spotting your nametag, then the blue dot is gonna appear on their map.And I believe the dots doesn't move accordingly.

    [/quote']

Ahhh okay. The dots I saw were definitely orange, and I used my binoculars to see the players, but only saw zombies and wasn't sure if they were just hidden well. This makes more sense.

    Thank you for the clarification!

  11. So, I finally got myself a map today, and I was scouting out where I could go next, and I saw 3 orange dots. So I zoomed in and it said "man" and would update every handful of seconds where they were. Eventually they just disappeared.

I tried looking up what it was on the wiki, but came up with no answers. Were these live players? If so, could they potentially see me? I'd hate to be minding my own business and have someone find me on the map and come to kill me because my location was displayed.

  12. I was just playing a game and went to change the mouse sensitivity in options, and misclicked and hit respawn and subsequently died and lost the gear I had just spent 2 hours collecting.

I am requesting either a timer (countdown from 5 or 10 until it confirms) or add a confirmation button to respawn "Are you sure you want to respawn? You will lose your progress" or something along those lines.

  13. So I've never really done anything like this, but i've just been enjoying the game so much I decided to try something new (to me) out and do a live gameplay with commentary video.

I'm looking for constructive criticisms and feedback. I'd like to know what (if anything) you enjoyed about the video and what you disliked. Was my commentary interesting? Would you watch another episode? If not, why not?

Anyways, thank you in advance for your time!
