    Chernaus Quarantine Zone

This would be a potential fix to a players ability to run out to the debug forrest, or debug plains. Military Patrols. AI squads - Spetznaz, backed up by an Mi24 and some light armour patrol the boarder of the infected 'zone', They will engage survivor and undead alike that get too close. While there may be a few persistant squads wandering from waypoint to waypoint around the edges of Chernarus, the bulk of military forces would be spawned in when players leave the area. While not killing players straight away, It gives them incentive to remain in Chernarus

Ok... So the rifle was of a british design, and manufactured in Germany... Glad we established that. If your going to send your car / planes / weaponary / or any other mechanical doohicky to be constructed anywhere - may aswell be there. Germans are famed for their engineering prowess.

Yeah... HK was a part of BAE systems before being sold to a group of German investors in 2002. They have since been contracted to refurbish the SA80 for the british army, mainly because at the time the contract was put out to tender; HK was part of BAE Systems. Irrespective. They'll be ditching the gun in the near future.

BAE Systems / Enfeild designed and manufactured this gun first... Dating as far back as the 50's with their bullpup prototypes - a template for a lot of modern rifles we see today. The designs have since been sold for worldwide distribution. It would be a nice addition to have in Day Z... it's a nice weapon. However, I personally would like a game mechanic that simulates the reliability of such weapons. Someone may not pick up a SA80 when the AKM is sooo much easier to maintain.
  6. Zombies should be able to see as far as players.... However, they shouldn't aggro outright... They should walk toward the player they see, slowly... Once in aggro range, zeds identify the player as a survivor... and attack.

Test, Going in tonight and will shout friendly at all...

I remember, a week into playing Day Z, I came accross an unconcious player at the army camp south of the southern airfeild. I dragged him into a tent, bandaged his wounds and gave him blood that he was carrying in his backpack. That was my first selfless act, and it felt good. Especially considering he was a very sound guy- very greatful to be saved from starting over : his name was Raymond. This guy had an AK Kobra. There was no alteriour motive behind helping him, I generally saw a player that destinctly wasn't a threat lying on his back. We hung out for a bit, and met up with my freind. Pursued and killed a bandit taking (fortunately inaccurate) pot-shots at us from a treeline. Standing around, deciding our next move, the sound is broken by a sudden *BANG*! "Ugh i've been shot!" Raymond cries before slumping down to the ground. I immediately start scanning the horizon for the shooter... Failing to realise my freind standing over Raymonds dying avatar. *BANG* a shot rings out again, finishing him off. ..."Dude, what the fuc......" The last words of Raymond before he passes on. I look at my freind; he looks at me and says: "What? I was bored." I was baffled... I just couldn't believe his dick-headedness. I took the AK, and some other supplies from dear old Raymond and cleared off to the north... All the time cursing my freind for his dick move. However, I have changed in some respect while playing Day Z, I generally try to aid new, unarmed players... Until I get them a gun that is, then we part ways. My trust is fleeting. Day Z reminds me of things like battle royale, and the hunger games. Alliances are fleeting - at best.
  8. I was thinking about the reliability of rifles, and how they should degrade over time necessitating regular maintenance, to ensure the gun doesn't jam, while being at its most accurate in the heat of battle. Something to do around the campfire - stripping and cleaning the rifle, perhaps. A simple right click of the gun and selecting the appropriate option should do the trick... Such an operation could take anything from 30 seconds to up to a minute. Weather conditions such as rain could also accelerate the process of wear & tear of the gun. The amount of maintenance required would vary between each gun... SA80 may require regular cleaning where as a Kalashnikov can be neglected for a while. Anyway, just an idea. Imagine taking aim at the screaming horde - rapidly approaching; AIM! pull the trigger! And hear little more than a *click*...:-/ Any thoughts?
  9. Yeah.. .i've noticed the odd zed get aggro'd from a long distance away... However, aside from this - their detection as a whole has improved quite alot imo. They don't all see you 100 yards away... its just the odd one - whom is easily to disposed. I guess if a zed sees you, he sees you. The AI in ARMA generally scans the horizon for targets anyway.

Maintaining weponry / Degradation of equipment

I guess your weapons performance would be an indicator alone. When its accuracy is not as good as what it had been, for example...

    Blood Regeneration

I dont think should *give* blood at all... Health should SLOWLY regenerate, assuming drink / food needs are catered for. Meat, however is rich in Iron and should boost the players haemoglobin over time.

Maintaining weponry / Degradation of equipment

It also adds a dimension to your choice of weapon. Shall I take the M107 that needs work done every 10-20 shots fired, to maintain its high accuracy... Or settle for an assault rifle, only needing maintained once in a while (dependant on usage), and can be disassembled and reassembled much faster.
  13. andy_uk15@hotmail.com

Maintaining weponry / Degradation of equipment

Well.... No... You would only clean your weapon in downtime... Not really for running through the streets of Cherno. IF the weapon jams, you would unjam, by hitting the reload button; or switch to side arm. IF it's lacking accuracy, you will fix it the next time you have the chance... Not in the middle of a firefight

    L85A2 disabled? Reaaaly? DICE?

The SA80 wasn't the best rifle by any means.... If guns in DayZ needed periodic maintenance/ repairs, players would be ditching them in favor of AK's

Things coming in the next update.

Running through the woods Blair Witch Project style, flashlight flapping everywhere - breifly illuminating the ground ahead... Hounded by a pack of dogs. So long as you can train them into a group of zombies, and make a quick get-away. While I welcome the addition of a new animal, I hope they aren't too common. The wilderness should be safer than the cities still.. But it'll nice to have reason to keep your wits about you.

    Helicopter

Joystick is probably your best bet. Hitting escape and going into control options - your second best bet.

Why not: Church bells could aggro Zeds?

Why do church bells go off at all? Those are some pretty fanatical bell-ringers / priests

The Yogcast video sure did ruin the community

*sigh*.... Y'know. I stopped watching yogscast a while ago. There is nothing credible about those guys, and i'm sure the whole notion of 'military simulator' goes straight over their head, viewing ARMA as a game akin to CoD than something like X-Plane. Although their comedy antics within games sure put a smile on my face now and again - there's little in what they say or do that can be taken to heart. Simply put : I don't take them seriously enough to care about anything they have to say. Totalhalibut on the other hand, generally does a good job at giving his opinion in a clear, concise and professional manner. It doesn't mean I'll always agree with what he has to say about any particular game - but his comments on the industry are bang on imo.

    A case for "classic" Zeds

Yeah... Zombies bleed out in day Z - which is odd. I think it would be neat if zeds could be slowed / stopped for a while with body shots, and killed with head / neck shots. So in the end players are not killing every zed they see (unless they really are THAT good)... They are delaying the oncoming barrage of psychotic screaming, slashing, and gnawing undead. I DO think zombies should be able to run faster than players... However at the speed they're going, taking into account that they're not gunning it directly toward the player, but zig-zagging all over the place... It makes them very VERY hard to hit... Players are left with only one option when greeted by large numbers of zeds - RUN. It's usually better to train a whole massive group, and killing off the last zed or two that simply wont quit; than aiming at moving targets darting, and occasionally warping, whilst surrounding the player. I'm sure if zeds ever stop using civilian pathfinding, players will be more willing to make a stand. Whether this could make Day Z a little too easy or not, is decided only in the testing. Much like Amnesia - being pursued by which cannot easily be killed is pretty horrific. When zeds are bullet absorbing slabs of meat... players might spend less time killing one another - if only to conserve ammunition. Bottom line: Make Zeds - not players the main threat of the game.

    Disconnecting...and camping.

I was wondering if there are plans in place to prohibit people from disconnecting from a session? I remember playing Everquest; when one had to log out, they must sit down and 'camp'... The process of camping required a wait of 15 seconds before the game drew to a close. This ensured the safety of the players character... Players who simply used ALT + F4, or closed the game via other means were allowed to do so, however their character remained in game, out of control for a full 15 seconds. Is there some way to accomplish this in ARMA / DayZ? Are there similar plans in place? Just my $0.02.

    Disconnecting...and camping.

hmm... How about that... But the importance of keeping Player characters in game after a player has disconnected reinforces behavior that its in their best interest to remain connected during a fire fight... It also encourages players to log out in safe areas such as forests, and not hot spots such as fire stations.

    The morphine/broken leg situation sucks

I'm camping it out here, waiting for a passing player who had the presence of mind to pack his bag with morphine.... And take it from their freshly made corpse - few players would do a kind deed on merit alone, and are more likely to take advantage of such misfortune. It doesn't pay to be naive in Day Z....at ALL.

How to measure distances in DayZ

The Enfield's iron sights that be zeroed to a distance like more modern rifles can. Fortunately, the rifle has a powerful punch, and has an effective range of up to 500m. Beyond that, trial, error and guestimation are your best tools at working out the bullet trajectory. You do not need to know the range to target when using this rifle. If the bullet falls short or flies over - you adjust accordingly.
