  1. Been watching Acebane's videos for a while now... I like how he doesn't take this game too seriously
  2. Your talking out of your arse. The thing about Armed Assault...y'know the 'game' that Day Z is based upon is that its not actually a game at all... Its a military simulator. Ergo Day Z and ARMA needn't have gameplay mechanics or balancing issues because the experience would not hold any realism otherwise... ...And that's what were all here for isn't it? A realistic survival experience. Sure there are other games out there that fill the horror survival catagory better than Day Z. STALKER and Dead Island are both prime examples. Perhaps those games are likely to scratch the particular itch you are looking for from this genre. I myself much prefer the realism. Knowing that every careless move, every rash action, mis-thought error can be my last. That's life. Thats survival. Its not fair... I might not even be fun to some people, but for me it envokes some primal emotions that games have simply failed to do in the passed couple of years. The only other game whose perma-death made me terrified of dying was EverQuest... back in 1998... But EVE is also the type of game that throws its power to the player base. Like those - Day Z teaches me more about our nature more than any other game has done where the environments are sanitised and 'fair'. Doing HND Game Development myself, I consider Day Z to be as much of a game as I did Dear Esther. That is that I didn't - they were experiences I wanted, and was willing to part my money with. This hardcore survival isn't for everyone - hence the constant gripes on this forum from the kids that simply just don't get it.
  3. I say you know nothing. Having said that if they could make a 200km squared map using GSC's Xray engine, as well as their A-life system... I'm all over that like a fly on shit.
  4. ARMA's engine is very good for what it does... Yes it's rough around the edges, but what other engine can do what ARMA does?.... By switching engines the work required to make day z would be stupidly large... Not to mention, the crushing realism of survival and immersion could be lost switching engines.
  5. I'm pretty sure everyone who's ever played Armed Assault is aware of this.
  6. That would be neat'o... Wandering hordes just ambling across fields and through forrests. Not randomly spawned in however, simply 2-4 persistent groups going from place to place...
  7. I'm sure if he had some place to stick his M107, he'd keep it... as it stood, with 2 rifles, he could only swap
  8. That was pretty funny. It's Alpha dude. ARMA's community has never been exposed to much in the way of hacking before - since its player base has always adored realism and immersion.
  9. I did this sort of thing alot... One time I was caught unaware fighting a zed with my axe when i heard a "Freindly?" ring out from behind. Initially a bit stunned I was going "uhhh yeah freindly..i'm freindly" .. Turning around I see the barrels of 4 guns pointing at me. "i'll just get out of your way"... Said I, leaving - hoping not to catch a bullet in my back. Fortunately I didn't. Sadly I've not had the same experience getting the jump on other players.... Usually end up dead or injured due to my own foolish nievity
  10. Snuck up behind a player in Elecktro, being a new player I couldn't really do anything - was just messin'. I took a look in his backpack and found a G17, I took it and shot him in the head with it.

    You Assholes

I would have got some popcorn and watched... through a scope - ofcourse
  12. I think they should use the Mi17 Civilian helicopter in Day Z Other than that, yeah the radar isn't necessary in Day Z. It's not like anybody is rolling Shilkas.
  13. Game purchase only. Community Developed. Paid for mod / expansion for ARMA 3... With additional landmasses to explore for those with DLC - for example - the ability to get a boat and head east from Chernarus landing on the west coast of Everon I've never liked F2P although in games like Tribes Ascend it works - not for this though. It's a fad right now. Anything that detracts from the realism/survival aspect of Day Z will turn me off
  14. Hey guys... I had just been watching this video here And I have come to the conclusion that it would be nice if....SOMETHING, was to infest certain parts of the countryside. Personally, I love getting out to the north - away from the players and the bulk of zeds. But once I'm out in the woods - there's little to fear. It would be nice if there was a random chance to come across something truely monstrous. This video also shows me something else... Sound in INCREDIBLY important in terms of instilling fear. The sounds from the zeds in Day Z are already pretty unsettling... But I think the ones in the above video trump it.
  15. I don't think it will mean players are shooting less... They are just emptying their clips at different targets. Zeds are already attracted to sounds - I think the behaviour just needs tweaked a little
  16. I agree with this... The environment must get a lot tougher in order to encourage a shift in a players priority. Even things like making ZEDS ridiculously hard to kill without a head shot could shake things up this way. Players will tend to be more frugal with their ammunition. Bandits are always likely to kill for loot, but it may stop the shoot--recently-spawned-unarmed-player ethic we got going right now.
  17. The engine in ARMA probably can't support these. Or it would be ALOT of work to make it happen.
  18. The only real way to curb player killing (but not solve it) is to make the environment MUCH more hostile. People may prefer to save their ammo for zeds rather than shooting for fun. Of course this will not prevent banditry - but it will probably stop new, unarmed players from being shot when there are bigger fish to fry.
  19. I think it's fine the way it is. It reinforces the idea that players cannot run around willy nilly with 5k blood. It certainly wouldn't be healthy in real life if you were as anaemic. Zombie Survival Simulator ... Stop trying to balance this thing out as a game. Don't know about you guys - but immersion, fear and realism are more important to me than the ability to soak up zed hits. L4D is available on steam for £7.49. Dead Island can also be bought at a similar price.
  20. I'm all for finding ways to make Day Z harder. Things like a limited food & water supply aswell as more limited high end military gear...However, as resources get more scarce, players will get more territorial. While everything mentioned in your post is likely to encourage teamwork, it's will not stop the murders. The real focus in this game should be the zeds. Right now players are the biggest threat AND reward in Day Z. Make killing Zeds harder, more numerous/dangerous and, most importantly more lucrative.
  21. Some more Russian weaponry would be a welcome addition given the setting. The PPSh-41 would be perfect for mowing down zeds.
  22. Depends on the shots... Continual blasting is likely to be another player fending off zeds... I keep an eye open at the direction, but am seldom worried. One shot of a sniper rifle like the M107, M14/DMR or even an Enfield and my ears perk up, while I duck down becoming all rabbit-like. The most disturbing sounds however are these guttural moaning and gurgling zeds! Especially on a moonless night when you know your surrounded by them, but can't even see the gun your holding
  23. I prefer the idea of skill points... But classes? god no. Every player could start out with points to spend on certain skills. Everything from firing a gun, repairing a vehicle or gutting an animal could have skill points. These points effect the aim and recoil of a weapon; How many parts and time required to repair a vehicle; how many meat steaks you can gather off a corpse. The more you do of any one activity - the more points you gain. This would add value to the perma-death feature as a week old character will have attained a few rather valuable skills in his life. That is a feature I can get behind... But I HAAAAATE the idea of classes so i say f***k that, and the backward ways of thinking, we are not console players looking for a dumbed down, simplified gaming experience. :P
