Too realistic for me, so no.

Yeah, this suggestion would prevent a lot of combat-logging, and at the very least, combat-loggers/server hoppers would be inconvenienced in how easy it is to do so. Certainly much better than the "LETS JUST PENALIZE ANYONE LOGGING OUT CUZ OMGOMGOMG ITS NOT FAAAYYYUURRRRR" suggestions we've seen here repeatedly.

A different (partial?) solution to ghosting.
Osiris1 replied to b_winter's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No, because on top of ghosters, it will detect coincidental logins and allow the now aware player to absolutely buttrape this fresh meat, effectively erasing all of their hard-earned loot that they could have protected, had the murderer not seen that big ol' flashy light and both been unaware of the other. If someone logs out in the middle of combat, and you get killed because they logged on to another server, you were clearly either blatantly obvious or literally stood still for a long period of time. Relocate and restart the fight. A five-second logout timer would be easier. -
Hackers are definitely an issue, but the devs will get on that. That, or they'll lose a lot of support. I doubt they want that, so it's a safe bet they'll get on that issue soon. On the other hand of "OMG WHY IS THERE PVP IN DESPERATE SURVIVAL GAME!?!?!?" I will have to answer that question with another question - Why does the wind blow?

PvP is just that. One player versus one player. There isn't some code of ethics that defines PvP. If you get shot, and you die, you lost. A player versed you, and you were unaware. You still lost though. I don't understand the confusion around quick gun-kills. I thought it was understood that, should you not want to get shot, you shouldn't join in on games with guns. Please correct me, as I might be very, very wrong on this.

PvP a solution that everyone can be happy about!
Osiris1 replied to W1Z22's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The easiest solution everyone can truly be happy about: Team up with your friends and stop bitching. Unless you have no friends. But if you have no friends, I think it's a universal law of the world that you're screwed. Removing PvP won't spontaneously make you friends. That's off-topic, but still important to know. On a more serious note, get over it. If you want a cushy little PvP flag option, DayZ isn't the game for it. Stick to L4D if you want forced teamwork. -
*Balanced* zed headshots required to kill
Osiris1 replied to silentbob17's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
With many shots needed to take down a zombie without a headshot, I feel it's fine as it is. And as XQuisite mentioned, headshots are a pain in the arse with their currently buggy animation-sprint-rubberbanding. -
How to get rid of server hoping, farming and empty servers in five simple steps.
Osiris1 replied to daedrick's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
1. How does this prevent any of that? 2. Refer to 1. 3. Why? 4. Refer to 3. 5. How? This only accomplishes restricting players, as you yourself said. Anyone who doesn't want to see empty servers can filter it out. So if I want to join a smaller population server, both the server owner and myself are screwed? My brain feels like it was just fracked by an oil drill for trying to wrap itself around this idea and how it relates to anything it's claimed to be related to. -
Simple Solution to Loot Farming via Server Hopping
Osiris1 replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It's not about whats 'fair'. Do you realize that server hopping has a negative impact on the performance of the DB that EVERY players info is written back to? It also has a negative impact on clogging up the servers, making it that much harder for players to get into their 'home' or 'frequently visited' servers because some douchebag is constantly logging in, looting, logging out, switching, and then coming back 10 minutes later. I would hate for you to have to actually learn the UTC Time Zones, but ZDB's suggestion does not 'penalize' innocent players. Most "innocent" players I know don't log out in high/med loot zones to begin with. They head for the shelter of the forests, where its safer to log in at. BTW, the tone of your opposition to the OP's idea leads me to believe that you are not as "innocent" as you claim to be. If logging in/out of servers had a negative impact on the database worth mentioning, there would be restrictions or devs requesting for players not to do so frequently. You're just trying to justify the ridiculousness of penalizing anyone not willing to spend an hour learning time zones or making definitive choices of servers so you can sleep at night knowing someone didn't get a few extra cans of beans that will last until they get brutally murdered. Not everyone logs on one server and stays their for hours on end. Don't penalize them because, again, "BUT ITS STILL NOT FAAAAAIR!!!" Sometimes, I'll take a good 10 minutes logging in and out of servers to find one that's right for me. Maybe I'll press enter by accident. The reason I sound angry is because, with this suggestion, I'm going to find a server at long last and find absolutely no loot because some kids thought it would be clever to do so. Learning UTC doesn't take an hour, just a quick Google search. http://www.timeanddate.com/time/map/ http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html Your "user error" arguement about hitting enter by accident is laughable. Whats not "fair" is spending an hour walking to one of the Airfields to find it void of loot due to the douchebags I mentioned in my previous post. How do I know it was the server hoppers? Because I have stumbled across multiple people logging back in to the barracks infront of me. I shoot, they DC to avoid death. Explain to me how THAT is fair? 1. You stated, in exact words, "It's not about what's 'fair". 2. It's not fair, but penalizing innocent players isn't fair either. 3. Easily solved by a 5-second logout canceled by damage taken. That prevents combat-logging. 4. The only way to prevent server-logging without going on a giant prick-rant about how penalizing for errors is a necessary evil is to rely on server owners to be competent and check through logs for such things. Otherwise, deal with it and join less-populated servers. You make minor issues like these way more significant in your mind by trying to convince others that losing out on that beloved can of beans somehow cripples your gaming experience. Report it to your admin and move on. Stop trying to penalize me out of your selfish desire to get revenge. -
Damn, you must be lucky if you're finding hatchets up the fo-shizzle. I've never had that.

If you log out within 20 seconds of taking non-fatal damage, you die.

Or we could just have a timer that cancels upon taking damage. This way, network connections mean insta-log and nothing penalizes them. -

Or everyone could just stop trying to press their own playstyle on others in a sandbox environment meant to be versatile and suited for any other playstyle, and, more importantly, stop playing a survival game if they are not willing to accept the inevitability of conflict. Humans are not pack animals. At least, their "desire to be in packs" does not override their survival instinct. If a human has to, they will kill for food. So if you're going to use genetics as a reason to bring realism to a zombie apocalypse (which is, by nature, not realistic), you're going to have a hard time convincing people that humans will, given only their instinct, die before killing another animal for food. If cavemen followed this logic, we either wouldn't have survived, or we'd have severe vitamin deficiencies from only eating plants. Back on topic, let me play my game the way I want to, and stop trying to prevent that because of some sense of superiority or stubborn refusal to accept that this game is not meant to be tailored to you.
