Suggestion: Make Basic Suvival challenging (read topic)
Riddlebox posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Suriving needs to be more challenging and strategic. Below is a list of things that can be changed to bring more sense of starvation and dehydration as an actual challenge instead of a chore. Hunger and Thirst: Food and Drink are too common to find for it to be a legitimate threat, You should not have to drink and eat one of each item to be filled and satisfied, except depnding on the item, for example a can of beans should not fully give you your hunger back or give you as much health, same thing with a coke, in fact a coke would dehydrate you more since its a diuretic because of the caffine. Canned Food/Drink: Obviously non perishable, but make more rare to find, Make Pasta the most filling and Sardines or Beans the least filling, this way there is a reason to have variety and more excitement when you find canned food, this also gives a reason to either find and kill another player for their food when your a higher geared character......or even team up.....obviously more people will choose killing but i think it will bring a different dynamic to the game Perishable Food/Drink: Maybe implent different foods that can perish, Raw Meat/Cooked Meat should be perishable so that way you don't just run around with 10 meats on your character and nom nom them and be back to full health, there should be strategy to having perishable food and having non perishable food and drink. I think the idea for having water bottles be more useful by giving multiple drinks is a great idea, or have water be more significant and fully restore your drink meter, same thing with food do the same. Weapons/Ammo: Weapons and Ammo need to be less common, a lot less common, its to easy to find a gun and ammo especially for acp rounds and when you get further north, not a lot of people up there and its just easy to raid military tents and buildings for rifles and ammo, there doesn't seem to be a challenge with running out of ammo once you learn where the big loot piles are and makes surviving not a challenge, especially since zombies don't roam in open fields and forrests but near buildings so its really only dangerous in the cities and towns and the liklieyhood of finding a survivor in open fields is actually very rare. This could cut down or increase server hopping, hoping to find a gun, it depends. -
Broken leg? No morphine? Very good
Riddlebox replied to GodOfGrain's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Currently the dilemma here is not realism. Leave the arguments of realism out, especially if your a doctor, nurse, physician or whatever useless or professional information you have, none of it will help us with this topic. The debate here should be, does not spawning with morphine, bones being broken easier and more frequent, very low percentage that morphine will spawn, crawling for hours to a city, deer stand, grocery store, etc, enhance the game in a fun, exciting way that makes you want to keep playing and adds to the intensity and despair to the game? I would say, No. It is not fun after your 5th character death do to the fact you got punched by 1 zombie, broke your legs out in a little town and you have to crawl for 2 hours around places, hoping there is morphine. That isn't fun, it isn't even scary anymore, the gimmick/despair/intensity of the situation has worn off due to frustration. I like the idea of having your bones broken, it adds a great dynamic to the game, but not when it happens as often as bleeding, which is another issue in of itself. The spawn rate of the items should dictate the rate at which the injuries happen. They should be hand in hand, I very rarely get the shakes from being injured, but painkillers are everywhere! You do start bleeding a lot and bandages are never in short supply, you get broken bones a lot now and morphine should be more available or do the splint idea people are talking about, your bones should heal regardless in game over time. Next Post down is my story for the last 2 days of playing, I will probably just do cliff notes version, its completely related to morphine. Okay, I know this post is long, has run on sentences and is probably an identical experience a lot of people have had, but if you really believe that this is fun, then you obviously don't know what fun is. This game does something to your emotions many times that I don't think any other game i have played recently, but its starting to wear thin because the difficulty of the game is rising to the point of it just being ridiculous, especially since the game is partly broken, due to it being an Alpha. Why keep increasing the difficulty when the same issues need to be addressed every patch, since they are never truly fixed. (this is not a knock btw, its just plain fact). Here's my story: So, I died in the last 2 or so days and I had some pretty good gear set up and several tents, many people can relate to this, I get killed in the NW Airfields in a barrack because i was killing just about every zombie, mostly due to the fact they updated the zombies and they could see you anywhere, finally i get killed by some survivor with a silenced machine gun because i was trying to loot an M9 silenced pistol, but because of the not so great inventory management (Rocket even agrees) i would of reacted faster and shot him in the face because i saw him before it, etc etc etc. This re spawned me obviously and played around with the new mechanic of starting out with almost nothing and trying to survive, against broken infected and players who still just murder people regardless of what they have. The last 2 days I have spawned near or in Kamenka, there were no weapons, food or medical supplies, I kept going to the barn north east of it and get supplies there, 3 times i restarted because my bones were broken from infected that freaked out that I wasn't even near and I had to crawl to the deer stands north of it, i got tired of this very quickly, could not find any morphine, so I respawn everytime i break my legs to zeds. Finally I get decent start out, im in a town NE of Green mountain, im headed to Stary, get my legs broken, crawl to Stary, get there because i figured the morphine would spawn in the tents........nope. I was also going to my tents i had set up there which are gone now because of the update. I crawled around all of Stary, I checked all the tents there several times on multiple different servers for hours. Not one morphine, I eventually died today when I shot one zombie with a G17 who saw me at night attracted i kid you not 10 zeds over, brought me down to 3k blood, i then crawl to a house and couldn't get in the doors because im crawling (you know the long brown log cabins) i get hit by a zombie i don't even know how i attracted and knocks me out and he alone eats me from 3k health to 0. That wasted four hours of my time, i crawled around and checked the Grocery, every house, barn, deer stand, around stary, and went to other servers as well. That is ridiculous, no matter what, that is frustrating and easily takes you from being immersed to not wanting to play anymore. I will still continue to play, but we wouldn't have to go through the same experiences frequently if they just changed up the fun factor a little more instead of the "despair" factor.
