As the title says I was thinking of the possibility to combine flashlights and various guns using things like adhesive tape (i.e. taping that flashlight to your AKM). The negative downsides would, of course, be that things like chemlights and flares might be a bit less useful or used less + the intense feeling of having someone light your way while you're in front with a hatchet, ready to kill zombies will go away in some cases. Tape would be found pretty much everywhere, I guess, seeing as how useful it is in all walks of life. I just figured I'd throw the suggestion out there, seeing as how many weapons had a flashlight integrated into them in arma 2 (if I remember correctly, it's been a good time since I played it) this would maybe be doable without that much hassle? Anyway think of it as you will.

Who's Playing Guitar In Cherno?
johan (DayZ) replied to jmoak3's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
sounds like you and this guy would get along well. (starts at about 3:30) -
I've seen quite a few good youtube battles. Big ones? No, I guess not, but at the same time I think that what with the new server sizes the chances for this is going to increase. Most clans i know of aren't exactly the loggoffski-type gathering of people and are generally in it for the risk of getting killed as well as the killing of other clans.

But really, why SHOULDN'T I shoot you?
johan (DayZ) replied to Crios's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Never really found much use for trying to talk to groups, there's just so many of them that already have their team setup and they simply figure you're a good way to get some fast and easy loot. Try the same with solo people and I've found that you're generally going to be successful, especially if you get them to talk on the mic. Don't know, just seems like hearing the other guy's voice is some kind of deterrence towards murdering people. Joining a clan is also a great idea if you want a group of people, if nothing else try and contact solo people, maybe figure out who plays on what server and see if they have anything you can connect to them with, i.e. "oh you're that streamer, nice to meat you, how about we hang out, etc.". Good lcuk with finding a group either way. -
Killed my first guy after one tried to murder me with a crossbow (of all the weapons she could've used...) just spun around and put one in her head with my winchester. Felt like Clint Eastwood there for a while. Second guy was unarmed (it was night and I was on the edge) when we suddenly bumped into each other around a corner (we were both running) which resulted in my shouting in fear IRL and pulling the trigger to my shotgun a few times. Felt bad about what I did as he cried friendly while running away, bleeding from an amount of holes a swizz cheese would envy, but it was pure reaction from my heart jumping a few beats. Found his body later just a few steps away from a medical box. Also had lots of friendly ecounters, though, like a guy I met in the middle of cherno (he had an AK74) and I had my makarov. We paired up together with one of my friends and walked over to the firestation, looted it and then he had to go. All in all you don't have to worry about shooting people, you don't have to, you can avoid them or try and talk to them ,just don't sneak up on them or try and talk to everyone you see since it's easy to feel crowded up on in a game like this. Just treat them all as random ecounters. You get some friendly, you get some bad. Fight people if you want to, it's nothing to be ashamed of and defend yourself always. All in all it's the player interactions, whether friendly or not, that makes it such a fun game for me!

Do you play on the same server? I have had terrible lags due to server being a bit wonky and possibly needing a restart. Try a few different servers if you haven't already.

This sounds like something I could try... I don't play Dayz all the time but I would like to play it a bit more (my friends left me to dry!) if I had some more buddies to raising trouble with! I am 21 and I'm from Sweden. I have been playing this game somewhat regulary for little over a month now, I believe, and Arma 2 before that. My map knowledge is quite good and I have a natural feel for orientation (compasses = cheating). As for gear I got myself a trusty old AKM & revolver. I can always find new equipment easily and I do not care about dying so logging out and what not doesn't matter much (a lot more exciting to seek conflict rather than shirk from it!) I also have both Skype & TS. -

Sanctuary in Chernogorsk - A New Hope
johan (DayZ) replied to Aidan The Enforcer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well the main issue would be that you need NVG's for snipers if you want to stay on top of security. Also if you need military-grade weaponry it would make for quite a trek to get a larger haul for such a large amount of people. As for the zombies have some axe murder gangs, I guess, since that won't mean you get tons of zombies attacking you all at once. I wish you luck with it, though, and as far as the location is concerned it's not a bad choice, seeing as how you got access to lots of resource spawn points. -
If it's a teammate then walk up to him, aim at his backpack and open it. Then move items over like you would to your own backpack.

Maybe I'd actually be able to get to the master league in SC 2 if I didn't keep getting distracted by Day Z. That and League of Legends is always a blast.
-
Nothing. Other than that it's not doable twice so it makes little sense for them to do that on a public area. In game it's not so easy to know who shot who and it's easy to make excuses for shooting someone. In the forum it's open for public scrutiny so the dayz forum is a good place to look for people.

Use the forum survivor HQ to get a group to play with. In game it's quite a different story.

Combining flashlights with weapons?
johan (DayZ) replied to johan (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yeah. What I meant is that you could add your flashlight to a weapon like the lee in an ad hoc manner. As Rokor said there could always be some sort of negative part to it, but all in all it felt like something I would do if I couldn't hold a flashlight in one hand and fire my pistol in the other hand. Make the weapon a bit unsteady or something. -
THE PVP QUESTION- fixed with earned perks!!!
johan (DayZ) replied to kumiiyo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Lead by example as above. There's no real issue with PvP and to screw over people who want to play the game in their own way is very selfish, using perks to weaken them in unrealistic manners. Create a TS server, do something constructive like make a thread about starting up a clan that plays along your vision and advertise it to get more people like you into it. There's lots of teamwork out there and a lot of teams that PvP because they want to, not because they aren't able to, as witnessed by the fact that they play as a team. -
Just add more spawn points or move them away from the coast. We're not all Robinson Crusoe. Spawning close to NW airfield? Sure add more zombies with 1.7.2 and add log off timer. I don't think that respawns have any real issue, it's in fact necessary due to people who want to play together spawning on opposite sides of the island. The real issue, imo, is not the access to the big cities as the danger there from other people already make this a risk vs reward scenario, it's just that this balance is broken atm because you can simply log out. A lot of things come down to this, PvP lacking in risk, people hopping and ambushing people over and over and also this - easy access to high yield gear areas, come down to the log off issue. Tweak the log off, not the valid mechanics.

You know what grinds my gears?
johan (DayZ) replied to qksilvr73's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Indeed, the gear interface is one of the clunkier things in Arma 2. -
Does morphine still spawn? If so, WHERE?
johan (DayZ) replied to wasrad's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hospitals, end of story. I always find at least 10 shots in a hospital (5 / newly spawned crate). If you have a teammate just have him or you leave your gear with your buddy and go on a quick medical run from east of cherno. Should be rather painless. -
Don't walk into major cities with a hatchet? There's deer stands, barns, chance to find helicopter crash sites and smaller towns up north and the only difference is that they're more spread out but you're not very likely to die other people if you're alert. If you have to go into big cities then at least slip along the edges (i.e. north side of Cherno och Elektro) and get a few quick pinches of loot. As for ammo you have no real reason to use primary weapons against zombies since a single M1191 (1911?) shot will take a zombie out and a lot more silently than with an AKM or lee. In the end I'd just recommend you to avoid situations where you run a high risk of running into other people, alternatively have friends so you can have at least one guy on over watch duty with binoculars/rifle.

dear bandits, could you explain me something ?
johan (DayZ) replied to Khattr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Very much agree with you, Zantiago. At the end of the day it's a playstyle for fun, it doesn't have to have a reason. It would be like asking why a guy plays tennis and not football and not accepting the reasoning that the person in question doesn't find football fun. Also please do not degrade other people with talk of self-esteem, basement residents (it makes for very cool and pleasant summers, you silly top dweller) and keep your zippers closed, cheers! -

This game is becoming less fun.
johan (DayZ) replied to synergies (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't have any real issues with starting out, finding a weapon isn't that hard, just don't go focusing on it too much. You see a barn but it's fill of zombies? Don't take the risk then just to find a hatchet. There's lots of barns in the game and there's also deer stands farther north along the balota, kamenka area which usually have crossbows or shotguns in them after a few run throughs. Spawning without a weapon was tough the first few times, sure, and some sort of weaker melee weapon might not be a terribly bad thing, but at the same time a massive part of the game is to be stealthy; you just don't have the ammo or the ability to get silenced weapons to survive firefights mid town, anyway, so it can be misleading to make new people focus on weapons instead of stealth from the get go. -
Zombies are rediculously overpowered
johan (DayZ) replied to Lysander_of_Sparta's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The zombies have their awareness ramped up a wee bit too much, atm, Lysander, it's something Rocket has confirmed.
