Every time I spawn, I'm in a bandit skin.
johan (DayZ) replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As far as I know just shooting someone reduces your humanity. Perhaps you got into a firefight without killing someone at one point and you never got your humanity high enough to "restore" the survivor skin? Not sure how exactly persistent the humanity counter has been (i.e. if you had -500 humanity at 1.7.2 then when the 1.7.5 went live you had 2k but the game still remembered you shooting that guy and not getting to the 4k mark (is it 4k for survivor skin or what?). -
Graphic Glitching/Tripping Out
johan (DayZ) replied to patsfan20's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
What graphic settings do you have? Turning it down to lowest (very low preset) and up again to whatever fixed it for both me and my friend and we have GTX 460's. Wait for the setting change to stop recieving and then press cancel (don't save) and it should work, or so it did for us. Hope this helps. -
HELP!!! New Computer- would it run ArmA:3?
johan (DayZ) replied to tufting's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Agreed! That build will work great and is a great choice. -
Something around 1k atm. Have six murders so far (killed eleven people total in maybe three months) most of whom have been my friends. At least my friends knows to lie down now, when I open up on the zeds. :P

Would This Computer Run DayZ Smoothly
johan (DayZ) replied to TheDayZNewbie's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
The first one will definately run day z smooth as silk and it will last you for quite some time. If nothing else I'd probably go for something like a single or duo GTX680 instead of the 560, though. If you really have the money to burn. GTX690's out as well but that thing's expensive as hell (about 800£), that and dual GTX680's have performed just a few percent over the single GTX690 on a few benchmarks. Depends on the power supply whether or whether not you'd want to run dual GPU's over a single card (takes more power = bigger bill) and more heat generation, etc. which will need to be taken into account. All in all the first option you posted is what I'd go for, though, if you want a complete package, out of all the three. Edit: Listen to the wise men and don't get an alienware; much like starbucks you pay for the brand, not the coffee itself. -
Tbh I consume most of my meat within a few hours as I spot new animals (not afraid of ax:ing them zeds!) because I tend to be beneath max blood most of the time, hehe.

How to fix graphical artifacts/glitches
johan (DayZ) replied to tobiassolem's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I have a GTX460 and run windows 7. Posted this in the other thread but I currently have the settings to high /v high and just setting them to low, waiting for the recieving part to end and then cancel without saving the settings have had a 100% success rate so far. Went maybe three days without a glitch then I retried it and it worked again. Whatever general area I've been in seems to have stopped glitching for me permantently (i.e. when I revisit balota/NW airfield/wherever) I don't have to redo it. I hope this helps, haven't yet seen any confirmation from any other people other then my closest friends, but let me know how it works out, ok? -
Is that where your name comes from? ;)
-
No. You won't be banned. Enjoy looting the airfield!

Did anyone try to change the options as I mentioned? Have worked for five of my friends so far without fail. Just change the graphics to v low or low and wait for it to update and then cancel. Does it work for you also?

HELP!!! New Computer- would it run ArmA:3?
johan (DayZ) replied to tufting's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes! Got to stress the PSU part. I've had a few times in the past where I wanted to upgrade but didn't have the power supply and in a few of these occasions I had to actually change the case (was a bad case of buying a complete computer) so I had to order a brand new case. Not that much hassle but no need to spend more than you need to. 650W is sufficient I'd say but others might disagree. -
HELP!!! New Computer- would it run ArmA:3?
johan (DayZ) replied to tufting's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Don't you have one of those sites where you can pick what components you want and then they ship you the chassis with all the things installed unto the case? If you don't like building one yourself, I mean? As void says I'd really recommend spending to make sure you don't have to put out even more money in maybe a year. The I5 2500 (or i7 2700k (handles spikes better)) is a solid processor and as for a GPU a GTX670 or 680 won't cost you a fortune and they are arguably the core features (cpu + gpu) of a gaming computer. An 8GB-12RAM on top of that and you're set, all you need is a motherboard, power supply and maybe some DVD burners on top of that. Sorry for derailing your thread but I'd suggest really thinking about this before you decide; Arma 3 is quite a while away still and I'm sure you'd want to have something that'll run arma 3 really well and still have something for the future past arma 3 also. :) Edit: 8-12GB RAM clarified. -
Do people go out of THEIR way to kill new players?
johan (DayZ) replied to Bullet Sponge's topic in New Player Discussion
Oh and what villages? Balota? Kamenka? The farther north you head and the farther away from the NW airfield/coast you are the less likely it is that you will get shot if you sneak. -
Do people go out of THEIR way to kill new players?
johan (DayZ) replied to Bullet Sponge's topic in New Player Discussion
Met several people, some friendly, some not, some i don't know as I only saw them from afar. Try and get an over watch position and check for players first and then decide what to do. When you round the corner and you're face to face with one it usually ends up in a gunfight simply because the other guy is on edge while and gets startled, much like the siberian tiger. If you know where there's people you know how to approach it; does the person have weapons? CAn you see any safe places from where to speak with said person? As mentioned above, play it safe and add in the whole awareness business and you should find yourself where you want to be. -
Ever since I found my first DMR and have been learning to use it (haha, goats don't stand a chance!) I have been feeling a bit more attached. Ever since my friend got killed after stalking a bunch of bandits (thought he was safe then, *ratatata* from close by) I have been a bit more apprehensive of taking risks. I guess that as long as I know what I'm getting myself into I am able to accept loss (played Eve Online for about five years before quitting so I am quite used to it). When it comes to situations where hackers are active (i.e. you see "carpet bombs" falling and other odd phenomena happen) I tend to just log out because I really hate dying while feeling helpless to stop it. So am I attached to my character? After realizing that it isn't super hard to get good loot from NW airfield if you take it easy I am not that picky anymore but sure... I sigh and eat a little bit of ice cream when I feel like I didn't do my best, but only because of that; because I should've been better or I should've been more awake, etc.

There's no difference, stat-wise, to the skins. It's just for show.

Changing the video settings to low from high/v high and then cancelling (not saving) fixed it for me.

This server is running an incorrect version of the server side application.
johan (DayZ) replied to Vipeax's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Have you tried different servers? I noticed i had the error a few days after the patch on a few servers. Never had it for a long time now, though... *Shrugs* -
Use the windows notepad.

1/10 not even an effort... Shame, shame...

Extremely visible as opposed to flares or chemlights? We all don¨t have NVG's, son.

Press z for crawling. This is a must when approaching areas where there might be loot (if there's zombies, there's (potentionally) lootable buildings somewhere nearby). In the day time this is even more true as the zombies will see you even if you crouch 9/10 times when they get closer. When you find some houses, maybe a small village, take a look at the windows of the houses, the buildings where the windows are solid with a texture added on top you can't enter. The ones where you can actually see into the building are enterable. Look around, some sheds can be looted, even doghouses (Dogs like beans, too!). As for getting shot, take it easy. You need to move slow and carefully, taking note of your surroundings and if at all possible move via the forest, or through heavy bush. Move between tree to tree, stop once in a while and take a look around (360 degree, yes) to check if there's anyone following you, anyone or anything that might attack you, whether it be zombies or players. Also stopping and listening can be useful sometimes, at least when you're in cities as you might hear gunfire or steps not too far away, which you might not have detected had those sounds been muted by your own steps/character panting. Good luck with day z! Hope you'll enjoy your stay!.

Where are you from and what TZ are you on? I can help you find that weapon.

I wouldn't mind a partner once in a while, seeing as how my RL friends are cowards and doesn't dare play due to the soundtrack! GMT+1 here so send me a PM if you're interested.

did i die from a hacker?
johan (DayZ) replied to Gulpin (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Possibly desync, possibly sniper shot. Lots of things that could happen, I guess. I heard a guy starting to moan from nearby once, tried to check it out and whaddya know? I die from zombies that were invisible to me. No chain either, so it's quite possible to get assasinated by desynch ninja zombies/gun warriors.
