Hero skins how many bandits use it to draw in unsuspecting players..?
johan (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Quite likely it is very common. You usually find quite a few blood bags in hospitals and you only lose about 2500 humanity / per kill (if you get the final blow, so someone else can simply finish them off and stay hidden). One hospital is more than enough to restore your humanity and in cherno this is child's play. And as for luring people in it's more about the "thrill" of betrayal than the actual kill. Any monkey can shoot a gun but to make a spectacle of it takes some work. -
I'm afraid that civilian clothing does not spawn. You'll have to find a person who has just gotten his new outfit and trade with him.

Any tips for new p;ayer getting into PvP
johan (DayZ) replied to ahumblesurvivor's topic in New Player Discussion
Gratz. :) But NVG's and NV scopes are only good for night time operations. Even then you can use flares as this will lure people towards you while you can lie down and wait. As for rangefinders the mil dot system is just as good and will take less time switching between gadgets and thus risk losing track of your target if they're in a city or otherwise in obscured terrain. I agree on the ghillie suit if you intend to fight in non-urban areas, however. -
Or he just found it together with the weapon in whatever vehicle/box like most people that have asked here on the forums about the outfit? You don't host a server, do you? I hope not.

Any tips for new p;ayer getting into PvP
johan (DayZ) replied to ahumblesurvivor's topic in New Player Discussion
Nothing fair about going to NWAF if you haven't fired a gun at another player yet. Might as well try and kill some campers in cherno or elektro. -
Maybe so but it's your server that will sadly get blacklisted due to such an action. Battle eye detects if something gets spawned and bans from that. If that doesn't work to keep "hackers" out of your server then you'll just have to wait for battle eye to come up with a new solution. If this is not enough I suggest kicking said person a few times with an informative little add saying that said weapon is concidered illegal and hacked. If this is not enough then I suggest closing your server until such a time that you feel battle eye to live up to your standard. Not everyone is aware of the existence of the day z wiki and far from all use the forums at all. Edit: The standalone will bring about a much more secure environmental state for servers, perhaps take a break with your hosting until then?

My story of betrayal and stupidity on my part ;)
johan (DayZ) replied to Jeff the killer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Heh... Always fun with a bit of betrayal, keeps you guessing. :) Good on you for destroying his face, though! -
Help me conquer my fear of PvP :)
johan (DayZ) replied to Slickback (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd go to cherno or elektro early on. Up north there's more advanced squads of people who are working together. In cherno you'll find solo paranoid survivors with lee's or pistols who are always ready for a fight, albeit they're usually not organized. Go into a 60 man server, go to the heavily populated servers, fire one magazine into the air and wait. Usually what I do when I haven't PvP:d in a long while (like when I started Day z after taking a year EVE break) I just started doing stupid things like running around in the open in cherno, shooting at everything and then trying to kill whoever came to kill me, etc, or shrugging when I died to a sniper. Just repeat this over and over again until death means nothing. -
I haven't found any in apartment buildings for about a week now. :| Been trying to find one for a long time so I could provide overwatch easier but I might just end up trading my DMR away.

Yet another zombie survival game. Except this one looks AWESOME!!!
johan (DayZ) replied to DannyFilming's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree, but what you're forgetting is that this is a console game which means that it'll usually be played in the living room, or TV-room so you can always have a few friends around playing one survivor session each, etc. While coop would've been good I don't think that it'll be a big miss, though. :) -
Have: DMR + 8 mags & M9 SD + 1 mag, M4A3 CCO Want: Ghillie suit, FN FAL + ammo

Any tips for new p;ayer getting into PvP
johan (DayZ) replied to ahumblesurvivor's topic in New Player Discussion
The apartment buildings in the southern part of Cherno (the big ones, the inn's) are very good spots to sit and camp. Sooner or later if you hide in the gardens out back you'll start to hear people eventually and, if you're still, will mean you get the drop on them. Shot a bandit there just yesterday after he was running around like a madman. Get a good rifle, though, an M4A3 if you're able to get to the NWAF. A regular M16 will do, though. I'd avoid the AKM or Lee due to the loud sound. Hope this helps and really don't go north the first thing you do unless you want your first PvP experience to be getting gunned down by an organized team with overwatch snipers, NVG's and ghillie suits. -
Not shooting an unarmed survivor...
johan (DayZ) replied to Jim Bean's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Shouldn't be rewards of any kind. The gameplay alone should be satisfying enough and not need superficial points as humanity. . You felt like a hero? Good enough. -
Hey guys! I just wanted to ask when your civilian skin changes? I have currently 5100 humanity and I have climbed from -1k but I still have the bandit skin? Do I need to die first or something? I have tried to restart the game, etc. Ty for all the help. :)
-
Not yet, have had some bad luck with the skins despite currently being alive for quite a long time and constantly checking for clothes. Ah well I guess I'll get it when I die, cheers!
-
Ok, cheers guys!

Zero it at 400 and aim at where you want to hit. At 350 it's worth aiming a very slight amount below the head, as an example, if you want a headshot. If it's 370-380 aiming directly at the head should do the trick.

costum faces, camo faces are they allowed?
johan (DayZ) replied to freakenstein's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't think so. Played with a few guys with camo faces not that long ago. Not sure, though. -
Maybe add a separate number to the list where you can see how many different people have added or subtracted from a trade score? Also maybe have some sort of limit to their forum activity to make sure they aren't simply new accounts upvoting said player (hard for a person if he has to look through the whole forum topic to see just who upped a certain guy). Also if a guy dishonors one trade should it really go from let's say 11 to 10? I think that would give it a bit of an illusion of complete safety for people glancing over the list. I.e. he might be good most of the time but maybe said player decided at one point that sometimes it's just worth the deceit (greed). Other than that good idea.

Debug monitor will be gone in 1.7.3 !
johan (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think it will be quite nice so i don't have to have it being in the way of my vision. If you want to keep count on kills in a somewhat effective way (no way of confirming, true) is to simply write it down on a piece of paper, the old rogue-style. That or just scratch a notch into your computer table with a hunting knife. Edit: Colorblind mode, yes please. -
Do You Play DayZ in the Nude?
johan (DayZ) replied to PricelineNegotiator (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have a leather chair these days so I stopped doing that a few years back. Usually had my underwear on, though, as sometimes i needed to pass by windows and you know what they say: Never give too much up at once! Keep the ladies interested. -
Swinko is a fag, all should hunt him
johan (DayZ) replied to AfterShave's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sounds like a tale worthy of any novel. In the heart of one of the brave lawkeepers of Chernarus cracks begin to form as he becomes more and more that which he hunts, filled with the thirst for blood he decides the ends justifies the means and decides to take the deadly weapon so that he alone may become the hero of chernarus, slayer of bandits! On the other hand, everyone dies and now you've gotten a fresh start anew? The hunt continues! Edit: Copyrighted, btw, so don't even think about it! -
I will have to agree with the OP that the current humanity system is far from anything I'd call perfect or even good. Either you're a complete pacifist and let yourself die to others rather than risk losing humanity, or you try and incapacitate enemies with shots (which will still screw with your humanity). Avoidance? Yes, of course, but really most fights aren't instigated by people who see each other from several hundred meters away, they usually happen because you run into someone close by. Even so recovering from your current predicament is quite easy. Try living in the less populated areas a bit and before you know it your humanity will have restored itself by quite a bit. Need to go out for some groceries? Lie down under a pine tree in some secluded area and come back to a few k higher humanity. (Depends, though, some servers kick you for being afk, but some don't.) I wish you best of luck. :)
