The annoyance of those who die on their feet
johan (DayZ) replied to LaurenDanger's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Me and my friends once sprayed a corpse in a barn like we were playing La Noiré. -
If you don't want new players to get killed, do something about it yourself. If base building is included in the stand alone then go right ahead and make some sort of safe bunker where you can have them bunker up between raiding loot sites. It's not a very nice place out there so they might as well get used to losing their stuff and dying a lot when they don't have much to lose. This won't change as the game progresses, it'll if anything get worse and more dangerous the bigger the challenges they seek.
-
Jokes aside, I don't mind some more character to my ... well... character.

Dean have stated similar ideas, Dillanm. Yes, hopefully we'll see more models in the standalone including female zombies.

Now, I would like to know why
johan (DayZ) replied to SeNoZinD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just give them 30s once their setup is complete, kick them if they carry an item they're not supposed to and list which one as a reason. Leave the bans for hackers and intolerant and racist people, not the uninformed and easily tempted people. -
Tbh having played mostly on lower pop servers I have to agree and suggest that you try a lower pop server. I rarely get bothered there. I've only been messed with once before by teleporters and that guy spent two mags trying to kill the long side of a barn. While I found his concern for my safety touching I couldn't help but find a few bullets to be to close to my ears. Either way there's always a chance some sniper see's you and picks you off so his team can get in there and loot it. If it's only happened twice this might very well be a legit kill.
-
Tbh, War, they are supposed to be that rare. It's just that what with all the rampant hacking they have become so common. : ( I have actually never found a AS50 in any barracks or crash site only on players (although it's so loud it's useless for me, SVD ftw). I have found many CZ's, though! As for the PKM, yes please! Such a stylish and nice weapon. I really want some more WCP weapons and less NATO ones, tbh, as I've always liked the shape of the WCP weapons more... So rugged and manly... ROAR!

Why Bandit skins are a terrible idea.
johan (DayZ) replied to RaxUK's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So many people who comment without reading properly. He shot three guys who had masks, yes, but had you actually read both the OP's post and various other posts (and actually played the game a bit) you would've realized that the way the stats work atm means that humanity levels can jump up and down like a kangaroo which will lead to unexpected humanity drops. I had a guy in my group last night who kept switching every time he died from survivor to bandit and then back again, despite not killing anyone. Changes also happened on logins seemingly at random. His humanity kept changing also. Had we a bigger island to play on, a much bigger player cap and some more sandboxy features, such as bases or camps, etc. we could experiment with persistent characters and a persistent world so you'd know where you could find bandits, heroes, where the big wilderness of potentional doom were, etc. without the need for any special skins (i.e. we don't go to ravenholm, they're always shooting there). But that's just a part of my daydreams, I guess. At the end of the day the system is sadly a bit broken and I hope Rocket will ponder deeply on it in time for release of the standalone. But as mentioned above, and I agree, the system only detracts from the unexpected and brands many unwilling bandits to a vicious cycle of destruction of whom the OP is one. -
Why does every sniper I shoot at ALT-F4?
johan (DayZ) replied to Jackftw's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Was that a zombie that fell to his death at 1:43? Looked funny, hehe. -
No timer for rejoining last server (you cannot move) or substantially shorter, like 1 min, and 5 mins for a different one, maybe. Current problem would be how slow some server seem to be, or at least for me it is annoying sometimes because it's taking forever to join a server and with no real bias I just jump onto another if it's taking long to connect.

Why does every sniper I shoot at ALT-F4?
johan (DayZ) replied to Jackftw's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
We actually have a new tactic with dealing with most snipers. We just all get up and spray and pray in the general direction of the sniper and this generally results in us being sniper-free for about 10 min. In all honesty, though, death before dishonour and all that jazz is prefered personally. As for logging, I don't even see the point, I'm in a ghillie anyway and if I've stayed that long in one spot I deserve death. Maybe these "snipers" forget this basic tactic? (Maybe this has actually happened a few times and you thought he logged, though?) I do enjoy sniping generally regardless where I go but I am quite annoyed by all these AS50TW people who login and logout sullying the good name of skilled snipers. I just hope that once this whole duping thing is gone and done we will see people actually appreciating a good sniper again as well as the guns who, in legal drops, have a very small drop chance. I guess one thing they think when they're lying there in their ghillie is that you're just trying to supress them and that they can get away with alt-f4:ing since they think you can't see them anyway... But you know... -
Female zombies, happily but... Uh yeah... Next thread, please. *Flicks*

Does sniping need a nerf?
johan (DayZ) replied to Slickback (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As mentioned above using the sniper rifles takes skill and practice. You need an understanding of the mil dot system and to apply it on the fly takes a well earned experience. As for AS 50 and M107, true their damage means you will kill on one shot but a SVD or m24 will also almost always kill on one shot. The difference is that the AS50 and M107 uses ammo that is extremely rare and once the duping problems are dealt with they will certainly have their place, both for taking down the occasional player but also for anti-vehicle duties (which is what anti-materiel rifles are really for). I think we could do with holding back on eventual weapon balance issues until we see the weapon duping come down a notch so we can really make a correct judgement, but at it's current state I can understand your frustration. All in all I can only stress how important it is to be very aware when moving around, learn where snipers can hide and think about how to move around buildings and cities while covered. -
A problem and a clash of ideals
johan (DayZ) replied to Someguywhoplaysgames's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Have this happened three times on the same server or was it different servers? Try playing on less busy servers or at times when there might be less players on as this seems to work fairly decently to avoid hackers. Also no, don't hack; you can get any of those weapons in balota or the firehouses in cherno/elektro, just go there on a fresh spawn. :) -
So I found an MK-48 Mod...
johan (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Friend's jaw dropped when he fired one into another bunch of players. And I thought the AKM was the automatic lee enfield dinner bell. -
Not really, since it's actually able to be used during night ops. Only sniper that I know of which is compatible with NVG's is the DMR, but that might just be me.

Server Ban for AS50 TWS: Debate
johan (DayZ) replied to melted349's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Kick said owners after, say 30 sec, with a message telling them to remove the items? That way they get time to remove the items if they want to play on said server? Or is this unfeasable? (No, I admit I am not an admin of any server.) Just thinking since there are always a bunch of people who don't register to forums or use any third party sites, believe it or not, but in all the games I've played I always keep finding people who are not involved in any social media or are knowledgeable in a lot of tools that can help out. Maybe it would encourage people to just drop the guns but still keep people playing on various servers? -
Banned from various Servers.
johan (DayZ) replied to donsteffa's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Well... Remove as in you'll have to die or find other clothes. Suicide on zombies and have your bud guard your gear, or something. -
Banned from various Servers.
johan (DayZ) replied to donsteffa's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Do you still wear it? Soldier's clothing can only be hacked into the game and as such you may find yourself getting banned on various servers for having this item. Maybe contact some admin and ask him to come onto his server, remove the item and then appeal the ban. -
Have you ever... killed a friend?
johan (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Killed about three of my buddies. One by a revolver shot in the head (forgot that the bullet goes from the bottom right and not so much center as is the case with some games), the two other kills were when people ran in front of me while I was killing zombies (very nice headshots, I must say). Not to mention so extremely many bones I've mushed in staircases, deer stand ladders and so forth by friends trying to push themselves in front of me. Current count is at 11 and every one deserved it. (The story of the deadly ladders, or how I became a hero in day z.) Also once my friend and I decided to take pot shots at each other and just as our third guy logs in I fire a good shot and breaks the guy's leg and knocks him unconcious, probably one of the better moments in day z for our group. -
That's really one of the things that need to be changed with the current system, tbh, it's just stupid.

Invisible Man or are people just that good?
johan (DayZ) replied to luke033's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well even with few people on there's always going to be moments where you simply collide. Was on a server with six people on it and got sniped in a deer stand on the western edge of the map. Gotten killed while looting a low value barn out in nowhere when a guy walked in the door and I had put my guard down. -
Which shooters did you play before Dayz
johan (DayZ) replied to reuben5150's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
One of the first games I remember playing that really felt like "Wow!" was Half-Life 1 as for the time the AI (Soldiers) seemed quite advanced, haha. Other than that Descent was a great game. I have also played the Battlefield series and Call of Duty 1 & 2, all of which are great games. Favorite was probably BF 2, though, as at the time it felt like a new and fresh breath of air in the franchise. Other than that Duke Nukem, Wolfenstein and so forth were all great fun, although I mostly watched my uncle play the latter when I was quite young (about four). -
When was the last DayZ wipe? and How?
johan (DayZ) replied to Michaelvoodoo25's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As mentioned above, unless the duping issue is resolved, the only thing regular wipes would accomplish is to make sure that people duping items will always have the upper hand, not the legitimate players. Wait for the standalone and we hopefully won't need people asking for wipes at all. -
i want a sniper! please help?
johan (DayZ) replied to arched123's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ghillie suits and NVG's will be a bit harder to find, tbh. Best bet are helicopter crash sites as the ghillie suit drop chance is about 2.6% and NVG's at 1.26, I believe. Other than that you can search residential houses en masse in hopes of finding a ghillie (0.26% chance). NVG's are only found at Barracks or heli crash sites, btw. Good luck! :)
