Tool Proposal - Flare Gun - Reposted from General Discussion
SepticTank replied to thefonztm@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
+1000 from me. Especially if it is coded to use the parachute; this would make night-time egress from a hostile zone so much more easy. I never really understood, why my pc (player character,) had to "baseball throw"....anything..... for that matter, tin cans, grenades, flares, smoke grenades, etc. I literally have to stop, wind up, and then throw an item. It's kinda stupid honestly. We weren't taught that in the Marine Corps. -
Maybe you could tell me how to use this forums search function, then I'll tell you the answer.........................................

'- I also would love to use the entrenching tool for actual Entrenching Wink the sandbags, cool, but what about trenches? - Whats with the waypoints? get rid of them, except with gps then you should see the waypoint on the gps thingy but not right in front of you floating digits.' Sandbags are meant to provide "enfilade" or in DayZ standards, cover from enemy fire. Look the word up in google if you don't know what it means. Machine guns obviously require high elevations to provide suppressive fire superiority. Digging trenches (technically isn't possible because of the whole globally persistent servers,) but if the staff somehow coded it, I'd LOVE to see mortars included in the game. I miss my MOS so much, I'm tempted to re-enlist, but I usually remember the pay, work hours, stress, etc. I'd imagine way points are there to counteract the "GPS Hack." Anyone who has a gps in their inventory slot, can be seen by whoever has the hack. The group I belong in, has coincidentally been ambushed on three separate occasions, in the same night, by the same four people, on a low population server (8 to be exact.) We didn't even try to loot the typical hotspots either, it was just Lopatino and a few small villages (five houses, with one enter-able building.) We're so paranoid now, that when we see [G5R] clan tags, we remove all gps in the group. We can't really prove they're hacking....so....we're S.O.o.L. Thought I'd give you a heads up on that last one. EDIT: HERE'S THE LINK FOR YOU TO LOOK AT AND SEE WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. http://www.dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=1383

I may have said this before, but, I know for a fact that you don't make "more noise" when you have better sapi plates. The things that make noise are half-empty canteens, loose ammunition or boxes of it bouncing around in your pack, a loosely fitting backpack, etc. Anyone who doesn't logically stow away things in a backpack is just begging to be picked off. If you have excess ammunition, you stuff clothing around it, and boots on top of that; whatever are the lightest items you have (baby wipes, bandages, tourniquets, etc.,) go at the top of your pack. When a patrol stops and someone is thirsty, every Marine better get thirsty real fuckin' fast. We never let something as small as that give away our position, before we want it to be given away. Thirst, hunger, and temperature (this would be a great way to introduce heat exhaustion and heat stroke!) I can understand though.

Slower running speed and increased thirst/hunger needs, yes. A thousand times yes. By the time you take into account the fabric of a plate carrier, kevlar inserts, sapi plates, various pouches, magazines with ammunition....you're already looking at 30-40 pounds. No joke. I completely agree Kaiser. Kevlar helmets can withstand at best...45 ACP rounds (threat level II.)

'Just to let you know, helmets don't do shit against bullets. Helmets are worn to protect from loose shrapnel/flak/debris from explosions as well as for camouflage.' Sooooo....do you know ANYTHING about body armor? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personnel_Armor_System_for_Ground_Troops 'You realize that the body armor worn in the field isn't for bullets right? It's for shrapnel and flak and doesn't stop bullets.' What the fuck is this then? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small_Arms_Protective_Insert

Give Tents/Vehicles Inventory Space Counters
SepticTank replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
'Realistically, you don't overload a vehicle because it's immediately apparent from a casual glance that it is already full. You don't need to go and count the number of objects. God I hope you're a troll.' So, you're telling me that, if I place a chunk of iron/forged steel that's 5 feet wide, 3 feet tall and 8 feet in length in the back of a URAL....it's not full (because there would still be room above the metal slab?) That begs the question to be asked...what the hell is your conceptual visualization of "full?" The shocks/suspension of the vehicle would sag, sure, but wouldn't you wonder just how much more weight it could handle before the vehicle breaks? This is why I said "weight," not inventory space. -

'Okay, now I'm sure you're a troll, because he used "your" correctly, as in "your education."' Are you COMPLETELY sure about that? Hmmm? Might want to re-read it...just sayin'. 'Your basically saying....' Does that look right? Nope. Perhaps you couldn't pull your head out of YOUR ass long enough to read his post to me. Indeed, you need to stop trying to sound smart and pithy, it really doesn't suit you. (Yesterday 12:48 PM)SepticTank Wrote: 'Your basically saying the same as lets not have a car to get us somewhere quicker because we have legs.' That's what he quoted me as saying, which, I didn't. I held your hand on that one, looked like you needed assistance. P.S:Also, who said anything about being apart of a group, so that someone else you know could pick it up? You know what they say when you assume, right? It makes an ass out of you, and me. Fortunately for me though, I'm not a titty baby that can't read and comprehend what others are typing. Perhaps, like I've said earlier in this post, you should invest some time researching, before replying to me and showing your ass, it's a really big target. EDIT: I've caught three things on here since it was first posted, wouldn't want to fall victim to my own Nazism, now would I? -
It's in the vanilla Arma2 game, why the hell not? If it's colored and angled just right (perhaps it could be coded to automatically put the "entrance" of the camo netting toward the front end of the vehicle, placing and maneuvering it would be a pain in the ass anyway,) you'd never see it from a distance. Oh, and since I've seen this alot on these DayZ forum threads....+1 from me.

'Septic, this isn't war. This is survial. You don't walk down your street and see a neighbor washing his pickup and a MG mounted on it. Really now?' I live in the sticks of Ky. I see it from time to time, honestly LOL

Give Tents/Vehicles Inventory Space Counters
SepticTank replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
'I agree, but in this game, you dont leave them behind, they magicly disappear (maybe to a other dimension :O). And btw, how stupid are our characters that they cant estimate how much stuff fits in tents? And I'm enjoying this to, since having a counter to how many items can go into a tent is just a very good suggestion, and calling it "being hand held" is just laughable. How...realistic btw...I put something in my backpack...but it doest fit...so it magicly disappears because its suddenly stolen. If you are either high or drunk, tell now, it'd explain a lot.' You'd actually be surprised by how many people buy/are given something and attempt to put it into a backpack, knowing it won't fit. But they just have to try..... But, to answer the question about "disappearing" turning into "stolen;" even if it didn't disappear, you can't really fit it into your inventory or backpack....so you'd have to leave it behind anyway. It would technically be "yours," but since you couldn't take it with you, someone else grabs it. Disappearing items are cheap, but hey, it beats the alternative of some "bandit camper" or any other "asshole, cod, pk-er" taking it....hehehe. Those monikers always make me laugh. -
Hell no, you should be able to mount a machine gun to the back of a pickup truck, or at least include the variants that have it already mounted!!!

Weapon Russianization (WARNING: Big, detailed post)
SepticTank replied to Dreganius (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Some people have misunderstood my post in this thread. Let me attempt to clarify. I did not state that the reason why there are so many US weapons/optics is because of an "experiment on Americans gone wrong," or "America came to save the day." (THIS IS MY OWN RATIONALIZATION AS TO WHY THERE ARE A VARIETY OF WEAPONS IN-GAME.) The Chernarusian government (Russian/Czech Republic) has ABDUCTED 10's of thousands of people from various nations, in order to test, further develop, and ultimately release a chemical agent that would possibly bring about WW3. They brought all these victims to Chernarus to see just how difficult it would be to overpower/outwit all those who had been in shelters/bunkers/had gas masks/wore protective suits at the time of an attack. The CG (Chernarus Government,) wants to see just how familiar their potential enemies are with a wide variety of weapons (it's a possibility that other nations would offer logistical assistance to one another.) CG has stolen, bought, or traded to acquire these weapons and scattered them throughout the land. I would LOVE to see more varieties of weapons, Japanese, Indian, German, Native American (yes, tomahawks and bow and arrows,) etc. -
It would definitely be something to behold, if they included it in the game. I'd imagine there would be some griefers, that have satchel charges, placing it atop a building just to lure other players up to it....and then....BOOOOM. Honestly though, seeing someone sail through the air from a fiery explosion is at the top of my "DayZ Must See List."
