Started playing last saturday, died in the first 20 minutes, since respawn i've not died. Only play at night as i've no nvg yet, but I plan on going after some tomorrow.

First thing I picked up on my character was a toolbox, think I was bang lucky. Oddly enough I haven't found another backpack yet (wtf) or a tent.

Are you serious? You can actually throw a tin can or whiskey bottle and they will go and investigate like a smoke grenade or similar? That's immense! Will it not give away your position when you throw it?

Maybe I'm doing something wrong then, all it says is gather firewood when I do that (or something similar). I'll try again!

Thanks, that makes sense. Hopefully when I log back in later most will have despawned (if that's possible?), and i'll have to use good old stealth to get some loot.

Hi all, This is my first weekend playing Day Z and must say i'm having a great time. I'm pretty good with learning curves and after "falling up the stairs" a few times I can safely say I can now hold my own. However one thing I stumbled across before day fell to night was a downed heli. I instantly thought jackpot and went closer to the crash site. Upon arriving I saw 3 zombie soldiers, easy enough I thought, and dispatched them. No more than 5-10 seconds later, 12 (Yes TWELVE) zombie soldiers spawned around it. Some how I managed to get away to safety, collected up my wtf's, and set up camp to log out. My question is, what the hell? Is this normal? If so i'll have to change to my tactics.

Good guide. Found out most of these the hard way but it's all good! One thing i'm unsure of is, I have a hatchet on my toolbelt. I just seem incapable of equipping it to take down some zombies silent style. Unless there's a different kind of axe i'm missing?

I get this too. It's like when terrain (irl) is really warm/hot and you get that heat ripple off it. I'm running a gtx560 core i3 6gb.

I just started playing this morning. I wasn't aware you didn't start with a gun but that made it better in my opinion. It actively encourages you to be extremely cautious, something you'd do in real life. When I first logged in, I instantly checked the surroundings and am constantly aware of the sight/sound meter. After hiding near a bush scoping out the little shack near where you start a player came legging it past me with 3-4 zombies after him, scared the crap out of me because it was so close, but also I found it hilarious to watch! I'm a few hours in, not died, and i've got a 1911(?) after finding a revolver, I have plenty of water, ammo and bandages. God knows how far north I am, occasionally I hear gun fire and I hit that prone button faster than I can react. This game requires you to think far more than any other game i've played if you want to survive. One wrong move and you're in trouble. This isn't a race to be top rank, take your time, be cautious and don't take any unneeded risks. So far i've had a great time. I've already accepted i'm going to die sooner or later and everything thing I do helps me plan for the next time. It's a good game, with potential to be a great game.
