    Tents still duping/losing items 1.7.1.5

On the other side, tents can also duplicate items. I stowed my alice pack inside my tent, and headed out bare-backed in order to find another pack. Logged out. When I logged back in, I had my alice pack and gear on me, and assumed I derped. Went back to the tent and found that there was a copy of the alice pack in the tent. Yay, free alice packs.

dayZ stats on unique players & Characters

http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=2942 Rocket says that: 1. insta suicides to get a better spot aren't counted, because the system doesn't count survivors who live less than 2 minutes. 2. Everyone saying that the noobs are lowering the survival time are wrong, because there was an error adding an extra 0 back when the survival time was 4 hours 30 minutes. (in other words, the actual survival time back then was 43minutes) One of the factors keeping the survival time down is probably the big influx of new characters. Once you get a hold on the game, it's not that hard to survive, but I don't know of anyone who didn't have a few short lives when they first started. Zombie agro knowledge only comes with experience after all. Not to mention the first few lives are often spend getting a feel for the controls. I also might be one of the people bringing down the average, because whenever I spawn I just run through the nearest city grabbing gear as I go. I tend to press my luck a ton early on up until I find something valuable. (after all, losing a character that has nothing is basically the same as losing nothing) Although, I'm on day 3 with my current character and about 10 hours played, so maybe I'm balancing myself out?

    Pack Duplication

Date/Time: Around 10AM this morning, and 12:50PM. (will explain in what happened) What happened: I stored my Alice pack (with gear in it) in my tent, played a bit more then logged out. When I logged back in, I had my alice pack on my back again. The original is still in my tent as well, so I got a duplicate pack and a duplicate of all the gear in the pack. Where you were: At my Tent in the wilderness north of Cherno. What you were doing: I had stored my pack with all it's gear in my tent, and then headed out bare-backed to find another pack. Just as I was getting close to town, I decided to take a break. After the break, I logged into a different server and saw that I had my Alice Pack on. I assumed that I had just derped and forgotten to stow it, so I went back to where my tent is and switch back to the first server that has my tent. However, when I checked tent, I saw that there was a copy of the pack in there as well. All contents were present in both packs, so I ended up with an extra Alice Pack, an extra m1911, 2 extra Lee enfield clips, and an extra jerry can. *Current installed version: 1.7.1.5 with the beta. *Server(s) you were on: Chicago 52 and Chicago 16

    disable 3rd person view.

When I first tried DayZ, I accidentally logged into a 1st person only server... and hated it. I constantly was agroing zombies, and I didn't realize at the time that the head bob was an option to change, so after playing an hour with the default amount of head bob, I was feeling physically ill. After that, I played a few days on 3rd person servers, and got a feel for the zed's detection capabilities, and for navigating some of the quirks/bugs of arma2/dayz. (for example, how to get inside buildings without getting stuck on the doorway) A couple days back, I learned that you could reduce the head bob, and now I find that I prefer 1st person a lot. I don't have any trouble heading into buildings in first person, and I feel that first person adds a lot of tension when you're heading into a building, since you can't see around a corner with the camera, you're forced to do stuff like leaning around a corner and looking around with the free look. However, I'm not suck a massive dick that I demand that rocket remove 3rd person just to suit my tastes. I do wish there were more 3DP:Off servers with reasonable pings for me, though. :( Personally, I advise that everyone who plays DayZ should start in 3rd person till they get a feel for how the zombies behave and get a handle on some of the quirks of the engine. Once you get a handle on the game, give a first person server a try. (and make sure you turn head bob all the way off, unless you hate yourself)

    Axe Vs. Gun???

The Winchester 1 shot's zombies even with body shots. So if you're needing multiple shots to drop zombies you're either: Shooting at ranges over 150m (unlikely) or you're missing. (more likely) The winchester is decently loud so you do have to deal with additional zombie agro, but it has 15 rounds per clip and ammo is plentiful.

    I killed a friend..

Assuming the OP actually did this: Dick move man. Dick move. Assuming the OP is just posting this as a made up story: Your writing needs a bit of work but it was a neat little story.

    So...infinite health cheats out now?

Nah, it's a bug. I had it happen to my benefit the other day. Someone sneaked up on me while I was looting and hit me 3-4 times with a hatchet. Blood was spraying out everywhere, but I didn't take any damage and I wasn't bleeding. I didn't have any weapons at the time, so I just ended up running away from the guy. No idea what causes it, and I've only seen it happen the once.

    Barbed Wire Getting Annoying

The only thing I want rocket to do, is to make wire have a larger hitbox so I can actually remove it. As it is, most barbed wired fences have me hunting around for several minutes before I find the spot, and the worst ones are unremovable as far as I can tell. I saw one setup where it was a double layer on a building. I couldn't remove the outer one from the outside and I couldn't remove the inner one from the inside. In order to get rid of them, you had to switch server, position yourself so that you'd be between the two, hop back to the original server, and then remove them from the middle. Toolbox spawn rate is fine. Wire spawn rate is fine. The wire hitbox is the issue. It's hitbox should be so massive that you could remove it from any point along the entire fence.

To Rocket & the “Hardcore” crowd

I was drawn to DayZ, because of the videos I watched of it before I started. In the videos, I saw a realistic, zombie apocalypse survival sim. I watched videos of the pitch black nights before I started playing, and I said, "OMG! That's so cool! A video game where night is actually dark and you need a light source to see more than a foot infront of your nose!" If you change it into a game where people crank their brightness/gamma and can see for miles at midnight during an overcast night then the game loses some of why I chose to play. To the "Rocket needs to tone down X" crowd, let me put this argument another way. What would your response be if someone bought New super mario brothers and then complained that the game sucked because it was 2d, and that nintendo needed to change it to a 3D first person dungeon crawler? You'd probably say something like, "Well new super mario brothers isn't trying to be a 3D first person dungeon crawler, it's trying to be a 2D side scrolling platformer. If you want a 3D first person dungeon crawler, then go buy one of those and leave new super mario brothers alone." Obviously I'm exagerating for effect, but the idea is sound. Rocket is making the game he wants to make for people who want that sort of game. He doesn't have to cave to demands to make it a fundamentally different game. If you give feedback on a bug, that's good. If you offer a suggestion on how something could be changed, that's fine. If you demand that a core mechanic be changed or removed simply because you don't like it, that's stepping over the line.

I challenge you to survive !!!

The final death scene was pretty amusing.
  11. Today is my 4th day after buying Arma 2 to play DayZ. Here are my tips for new players. 1. You are going to die. 2. If you get into trouble in a costal city and don't know your way around, run to the docks. 3. You need to memorize the look of the enterable buildings in the game. For the first few days, looting will suck until you know what buildings to look for. It's just something you need to accept. Use this map,(http://dayzdb.com/map ) to point yourself in the right direction, at least until you can recognize buildings on sight. I know you might find it cheesy, but trust me. The game is a lot more fun once you have some knowledge of what you're even looking for. 4. Industrial buildings are mostly ignorable early on. Focus on medium value residential and medium/high value farms/barns as your first looting priorities. High value residential/Deer stands/airfields/fire stations work too, but they tend to be a lot more dangerous. Low value residential is alright if it's your only option, but one medium can be anywhere from 2x to 4x the loot of a low, so you're better off hitting mediums whenever you can. (high value residential are about 1.5x medium loot, so it's not as drastic of an upgrade as from low to medium) 5A. People are not your friends. The majority of people you run into in this game will shoot you for your stuff. Another good chunk of the people in this game will shoot you just for fun. The smallest portion of the playerbase is the portion that will want to help you and try to survive with you. 5B. If you see someone before they see you, (and you're not a bandit yourself) you have two options. Either slink away stealthily, or call out to them from your hiding spot, asking if they're friendly. Note!: if you call out to them and they don't immediately respond with "I'm friendly" or "don't shoot" then you can be 95% sure that they are going to try to kill you. If they start looking around to find you instead of typing or talking, you need to put them down or run. 6. If you are a lone wolf, the most valuable gear to find (besides weapons) is the hunting knife, matches, and hatchet. People who play in parties can use blood bags to get blood back, but if you're solo your only options are: Canned food (which is only 200 blood per food) and Cook meat!(800 blood per serving!!*!!*1!!) That's about all for now. DayZ is tough, but it's definitely not un-playable by any means. Good luck, and remember that part of the reason why DayZ is fun is because it's hard! :)
  12. YES I haven't experienced it any other way, but it leads to interesting scenarios. It leads to players being forced to use melee weapons a lot more, and I think one thing I'd ask for is more variety for melee weapons.

    Balota Airfield

As a fellow noob, I can assure you there is good stuff there. Of my 5 visits to balota: -it was empty twice. -It had a bandit who shot me in the face when I walked in unarmed. -I found an akm in the tower (and then also a DMR in one of the deer stands!!!) -I found nothing at the airfield, but then found an MP5, a M16A2, and a coyote backpack in the deer stands! (although I also nearly got shot by another bandit, but I managed to keep my head low after he missed the first time, and the zombies charging him made him have to move on) I know that I"ve gotten really lucky, but it does prove that there is good stuff there. One thing I will say though, is that it is such a high traffic area that I don't recommend going there if you have already found anything you aren't willing to lose. A trip to Balota is like a gamble with the devil. You might come out way ahead or you might end up dead. :P

A man's name is only as good as his word

I dunno. Pros: -People could develop a reputation Cons: -Players could just jump to a new server and play with new people so the reputation doesn't matter. -Players who roleplay would be shoehorned into one character type instead of being able to make a survivor character and a bandit character -Households with multiple players on one account would kinda break the system. Possible pro or con: (depending on player opinion) -Removes the option for espionage combat between clans. I'm a fan of the EvE style of "Let your players do what they want" when it comes to hardcore games. I think the idea of having a bandit mole that infiltrates survivor groups in order to sell them out is neat, and vice versa. Also, if you want tags to always be on, you have the option to only play on "tags on" servers. I personally prefer no crosshair and tags off servers, because I don't like people accurately aiming guns without looking down the sights, and I don't want to see giant hovering names whenever I look at someone. Don't trod on my immersion, just so you can crucify bandits. In the end, it sounds like more back end development work for a questionable amount of benefit. *shrug*

Whats wrong with this world, seriously

So, I started playing a few days ago and I thought I'd give my experience as a fellow bullet sponge. The numbers for my DayZ playing so far stand at 5:9:3. 5 people who were friendly/helped me/partied with me for a bit. 9 people who shot me on sight (actually 8 people who shot me, and 1 who missed and learned that if you don't hit with the first enfield round you're not going to get to shoot a 2nd. :P) 3 people who didn't respond when I asked "friendly?" while hidden, so I just stealthed away. So far, my first response when I spot a player is, "Oh S***!" but I don't think I'd say that reflects horribly on the world. Clicking a button to make someone start over is a lot different than pulling a trigger and watching the life go out of someone's eyes. Sure, in the zombie apocalypse you'll have some folk who like wearing human skin as clothes, but I figure you'd see normal communities cropping up too. (and yes, I realize you were joking, but I like giving the honest response to a joke :P)

The Infection is permanent until cured.

As Dreg said, Humanity is more of an anti-grief mechanic than a solid in-character stat imo. It's there so that people who cronically murder have a little chip on their shoulder that might make them a bit more vulnerable. Of course, with the implied way it works, it only really matters for scam-bandits. (most bandits just shoot on sight so it doesn't matter if seeing them makes your heart beat faster or whatever) I don't like this idea, because each life is a new character. The infection is mean. If you want it more prevalent, then just make it easier to catch. There's no need to make it persist between lives (which would ruin a lone-wolf's day) just to make the illness more common.

    I'm really sorry camo dude!

Nah, the real TL;DR is: This is why we can't have nice things. (or nice survivors in this case :P)
