    Sniper Wars - the Lulz

I've found a gps, a dmr, 3 ak74's, 1 ak74 kobra, 2 akm's, an m16a2, an mp5, and a silenced mp5(:D) in one week of owning the game, and without server hopping or ever visiting any airfield but Balotta. The furthest north I've ever gone was to Mcta. (Deer stands are amazing, btw.) You don't need to go into the biggest pvp hotzones in the game in order to gear up. If you're going into the biggest pvp hotzones, then don't be surprised when you die.

How I've died to sloppy programming

It's called an alpha mod for a reason. Alpha = most basic, bug ridden mess that is still technically playable. Do not whine about being killed by bugs in an alpha. The reason you're here is to die to bugs and record them so that there will be fewer bugs in the future. If you don't want to die to bugs, uninstall the DayZ alpha and wait a few years till the release version of the mod comes out. If you're okay with dieing to some bugs, then uninstall DayZ and wait a year till the Beta comes out. If you're okay with dieing constantly to bugs, then welcome to the DayZ Alpha. :P
  3. An overrated TV show with b-actors that every hipster loves. Wrong! It's a very good, ongoing comic book series that got bastardized into an overrated TV show. :P P.S. I'd say I identify with the comic version of Rick. P.P.S. Know what, scratch that. I identify with the twins from the comic.

A Realistic Means of Facilitating Group Play

I feel like this idea would be a decent amount of work and that it is missing the core point as far as "fixing" the solo experience. To me this sounds like a big idea that's main purpose is to fix bandits. (because you said that one of the big issues for casuals is that they're time limited and often get killed when they do try to meet up) The problem is that you shouldn't try to fix bandits by making artificial systems to discourage it. Instead the way to discourage banditry is to give more incentives to grouping. If you add in enough group focused mechanics (like the blood pack) and remove single player alternatives (like cooked meat) you eventually make it to where the benefits of grouping with strangers outweigh the risks. I would rather Rocket spend his time making new systems that reward people for grouping, instead of implement this strange system to spawn groups of people together and shame them if they PK. However! I am not 100% against this idea, just this particular implementation of this idea. I do think the armbands and such could be a good idea, not for newly spawned people, but for existing characters. One of the issues DayZ has, when playing with a group, is that the majority of a person's clothes are randomly generated. Aside from weapon and minor facial customizations, it can be really hard to differentiate you buddy from random axe murder #5 who just rounded the corner. The armband idea might work, in that you could have everyone in your group wear a tan armband (that would hopefully go ontop of your clothes/camo/gillie) so that you could easily differentiate friends from strangers. P.S. Rocket has said that he will never turn off pvp and he will never make a pve only server. He has said that pvp is one of the core mechanics of the game and turning it off would remove a lot of what is special about the game. It's not happening.

    Tent city levelled.

Destroying an enemy's base isn't always griefing. A standard Venn diagram would represent it pretty well. That said I am interested in all the extra do-dads rocket's planning on adding.

    Tent city levelled.

Storage device that can't be destroyed = permanent storage. We're mincing words, but saying the same thing. And you never responded to my previous post. If tents are indestructible and people want to destroy your crap, they would just pull it out piece by piece, and leave it on the ground to despawn. What is the difference? You want a tent that allows people to steal from you, but they can't take anything but what they're going to use. I don't see that happening.

    Tent city levelled.

This thread and video is the example of why tents/storage need to be destroyable and also why destroying tents/storage is a legitimate tactic. Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wE7eNEK-6k Thread: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=21227&highlight=night+raid+revenge

How to deal with Barbed Wire

Hullo, my handle is LackofCertainty, and I did something silly. I whined about Barbed Wire before I fully understood the mechanics, and I'm here to: 1. Eat some crow for whining about unremovable wires. (nom nom nom, crow is delicous) 2. Help teach others to not make my mistake. How does a person deal with Barbed Wire? The first thing you need to do, is locate a toolbox. Toolboxes spawn in Industrial zones which are the yellow circles on this map http://dayzdb.com/map Don't let the percentages demoralize you too much. In practice they are decently easy to find, and they are a permanent item, so one toolbox can slay an infinite amount of fences. Also, toolboxes sit in the toolbelt, whereas fences take up normal inventory slots, so really it's less of an inconvenience to you than it is to the wire-setters. Okay, so now you've gotten your toolbox and you're ready to go on a wire clipping rampage. The next thing you need to know, is that you need to focus on the Metal posts holding the wire in place. There are 4 of them along the length of any placed barbed wire, and those are the source of power for the barbed wire. (in other words, you target the poles to remove the wire) Now, you might be like me at this point, standing by a pole and wiggling your crosshair back and forth trying to find the hitbox for removing the wire. Here's a pro-tip that cannot be understated. Switch into first person! I find I have the most success when I bring up the ironsights and aim at a pole. If you don't get the popup to remove it at this point, make sure you're as tight to the barbed wire as you can be, and slowly aim up and down the length of the pole. You'll get it sooner or later. (and if you don't, move to one of the other 3 poles and try again) Remember, only you can help prevent barbed wire mazes. :D

    Vehicle Question

Or instead of turning up the brightness/gamma like a puss, you could just man up and use the available light sources. Flares and chemlights do their job very well. The flashlight... eh, it's a bit of a double edged sword since you can't throw it, but it's something. Night is scary, but that's part of why it's fun. :)

    No zombies in forests?

To the OP, I believe I hear someone say that Rocket wants to expand the zombie spawns out into the forest a bit, but right now it's mainly a performance concern. Having said that, the patch notes mentioned that there should be a big performance upgrade in 1.7.2 which will allow more players per server and more zombies, so maybe forest zombies will get added eventually.

Why not spawn all over the map instead of the coast?

I like it the way it is. When a new player is first dropped into the world, they tend to not have any idea what the map looks like. Many players don't know how to navigate very well when they first start off, so dropping them in the middle of nowhere is kinda rough, especially if they're trying to meet up with a friend who. The coast, on the other hand, is a super obvious landmark, and can be a nice bit of relief for new players while they're trying to sort out where they want/need to go. Yes, it does increase the concentration of players on the coast, and any concentration of players increases the amount of PK, but I still prefer it the way it is.
  13. The most obvious use for it would be to cover a sniper's 6, but I can also seem them being useful to sprinkle through the forest near your campsite. Also, I just think the idea is cool. :P The only issue I have is that bear traps should be basically useless against a human that knows where it is. I mean, you can disarm a bear trap with your bare hands, just by reaching in from the outside underneath the spring loaded bars and pressing the pressure plate. I imagine that they should make a decent deal of noise when they trigger, so maybe the toolbox would give you a silent disarm option?

    newbie question

This video shows you how to setup six launcher. It's way easier to use than the ingame stuff.

    Barricades

You must not have been looting industrial buildings. (or you have terrible luck) I've only owned the game for 5 days, and I've found toolboxes on 3 of my characters. (probably around 6 toolboxes total, if you count the extras that I couldn't pick up)

    Hit-detection is bad?

I (rarely) notice issues with hit detection on zombies. If you watch enough streams you can see spots here and there where someone shoots a 1 shot kill weapon at a zombie, sees a blood spray, but the zombie ignores it and keeps attacking. (I mean, beyond the typical zombie death lag) In my own experience, though, I've never had any issues with shots not registering. Infact, when I shot one guy who was apparently having connection issues, he sprinted away from me unharmed, but 15 seconds later I got the kill and I found him collapsed up in the tower of the fire station. (when I had headshot him on the first floor by the door) With 50 ping I wouldn't expect you to have many connection issues. Does the game chug at all for you? Melee weapons (and actually guns too) can be a little unintuitive if you use them immediately out of a run/crouch-run. See, when you're readying your weapon after moving quickly, your guy brings up the weapon from aiming at the ground. If you pull the trigger fast enough, without letting the weapon settle into the ready position, if can pop off a round/swing that aims somewhere at the ground off to your right. Maybe that was your issue?
  17. I find I'm a enough of an ass that if I run into someone who has a gun and I think they'll notice me, I'm going to shoot them, but I'm not such an ass that I'll shoot someone who is unarmed. (unless they have the big coyote backpack, then it's open season:P)

    Is duping officially allowed?

Honestly, I don't care if a person abuses bugs/exploits/glitches to high heaven, as long as they give a detailed report on the bug forum afterward. The mod is an alpha, and it is important that people try their hardest to break the game in any way they can so that those bugs/exploits/glitches can be stomped out before the game switches over to beta or release. The problem is more that a lot of folks don't do that. A good number of people (like the group the OP mentioned) are just using and abusing these flaws in order to gear up and lord it over other people in game. It's one thing to hammer on the game as hard as you can to root out bugs for the devs. It's another to say, "We don't care if you kill us, because we can fully regear in five minutes with duping." Saying the former makes you a good little tester. Saying the later makes you an ass. P.S. I didn't know that duping and such was a super common thing, nor did I know that you could make copies of gear spawn in one loot pile apparently, so these exploits that you claim everyone is using aren't really being used by everyone. The only sorts of duping I was aware of was pack duping bugs and tent duping bugs. (because I had the pack dupe bug happen to me, and when I went to report it I saw the tent dupe bug)

    Unlimited Ammo Converting

I wouldn't consider this too high of priority, because really the only one that it matters for is the m24/DMR. .45/1911 and 8/2rnd shotgun ammo is so plentiful that it's not even worth abusing. Still, something that needs to get fixed eventually.
