  1. Click here to go to the original DayZPvP.com FOV Guide Field of view or FOV is a very important aspect (pun intended) of DayZ. I am going to guess that most of you have not customized your FOV, and some may have no idea what it is or why you might want to change it. Did you know that playing with the FOV settings wrong can actually make you sick? Plenty of people get headaches from straining to see a screen that is not set up correctly. There is also a massive tactical advantage to seeing the right amount, and the right parts of the screen. What is FOV? Phazon88 has created this animated .gif for Battlefield Bad Company 2 which uses the same system as ArmA 2 to set the FOV: Pay attention to two things. One reason why we might want to increase our FOV from the default is because you get more peripheral vision. If you look on the left and right (the outside) of the two trees in the middle you can see that as the FOV increases, you can see more of the hill on the edge of the screen. This can be a life saver because often times a player has already seen you and has the drop on you. As you run by and pass him, he thinks you can't see him anymore, but you can. Don't forget that you can get a temporary FOV boost by either holding numpad - or by going into 3rd person view (numpad - works on there too). Another situation that a wider FOV can help is in very close quarters battle, or CQB. Sometimes during CQB you might actually run past your adversary. Having a wider FOV can let you turn around and re-acquire your target much faster. This lets you spin around and get your shots off while he is still turning and looking for you. As well know the zombie AI is a little bit wild at the moment and a wider FOV can help you when you have multiple zed beating the crap out of you. Of course there is a tradeoff to having a wider FOV. If you look in the middle of the .gif again you can see that as the FOV increases the center of the screen seems to get further away. There really is not too much I can think of to argue that this is good. Basically you are going to have a harder time seeing someone far away, and let's face it, far away is deadly in this game. Be very careful when you choose your FOV. You have to decide where the optimal point is. For me it is around 90 in most games, but for DayZ 90 should be your max unless you have a large/wide monitor. BEWARE: Changing your FOV will most likely alter the way mildots and ranging works. I am investigating how and how much and will report back. RadikulRAM reports that if you mess up your file you can delete it and ArmA will make a fresh one. Changing Your FOV Although I have enjoyed many XBox360 or Playstation games in the past, one of the reasons that I almost always play on the PC is because of the ability (usually) to change your FOV. Some games have quick sliders of settings, but ArmA 2 does not. Matter of fact it is not easy at all for the average user to adjust their FOV so I am going to help you out. Step 1. Navigate to My Documents/ArmA 2. Find the "Username".ArmA2OAProfile file. Make a copy of it somewhere to back it up. Open the file with Notepad or another text editor. Step 2. Scroll towards the bottom of the file and look for the entries for fovTop and fovLeft. These are the values we will be changing, but please write the originals down if you didn't backup the file in case you need to revert. Step 3. Use this calculatorto figure out your FOV values. Do not just put the number you want into the .ArmA2Profile file or it will not work. Pay attention to your Resolution (screen width and height). Step 4. Input the following into a Google search bar - "x degrees in radians" without quotation marks, where x is the number you calculated in the previous step. Or use the formula (.0174)x with x being the result of Step 3. (thanks to subtle for the tip) Step 5. Change the fovTop to the number you have now, which is your calculated FOV in radians. You should round off to 2 decimal places to the right. Step 6. Grab a calculator (or type into a Google search bar) and DIVIDE your new fovTop number by the SECOND number in your monitors Aspect Ratio. Click here for a guide on how to figure out your Aspect Ratio. Find the box with your monitors Resolution and that color is the same as an Aspect Ratio circle in the lower right corner if you don't know it. Step 7. Now take the result of Step 6 and MULTIPLY that by the FIRST number of your Aspect Ratio. Again, round off the number to 2 decimal places. Enter this number as your new fovLeft value. Step 8. Save the new file. You should have a new FOV when you restart the game. If you encounter any problems go back to your back up .ArmA2OAProfile file and either email me at Paleface@DayZPvP.com PM, or reply below.
  2. After my first couple of months I have done much of what there is to do in the game. The only thing I haven't personally had is a rangefinder and radio. Has anyone found a radio recently? I haven't seen them drop. Also, I have not found all of the rare guns myself, or flown a helo in-game. Those things are not really on my "to-do" list. I have found that the more gear I have the safer I play. Now I have two accounts so I am having a lot of fun patrolling the coast again. Funny thing is my main died in the north and is now my "coast guy" and my brand new account lifted a nice Coyote/GPS/NVG/FN combo off a guy near the Cherno apartments (don't bring good gear to the coast). So "get another account" is not an answer for me. Besides raiding with your group or derping around in Elektro what do you guys do? Do people roleplay? Do any very experienced players actually explore anymore? Maybe I could invent a goal of going in every major building in the map or something. What do you do once you have a full kit? Do you hoard all the vehicles or do you joy ride them around.

Could my computer run this mod ?

    Should be fine.
  6. Seen it many times ZJ, it sure is a crazy game.
  7. It's true, but hackers are only an extension of the #1 rule of DayZ: You can die anytime, anywhere, REGARDLESS of how many people are on the server. I have died in the northern most deerstand 5 minutes after logging in, with just me and one other person on the server.

    Kiddings me?

SOMETIMES, yes but not all the times. For the 999,999 time: items/tents/vehicles/everything can be lost at any time. Best way to use tent's etc is to put stuff in them, go on a raid with your now-empty pack, then go back to camp. Get your good stuff back out and only save junk/common items in the vehicles. If you put your baby M-14 or 50 cal or whatever in there and log off, you're gonna have a bad time. This comment is of course not directed to Fraggle, but to everyone that puts so much faith into tents.

Trying to make friends on DayZ is difficult...!

Using the voice changer is just going to make people mad but I am sure you know that.\ Of course I will not make promises but you might find more friendly people on my site.

Could my computer run this mod ?

My computer is similar specs to you, only a whole generation behind on every part (Phenom x3, GT 9800) and it runs DayZ moderately well. It runs most games much better, but DayZ is a hog. If you run vanilla at 55 I don't see why you can't get somewhere close to that but in the cities you will drop a lot of fps.

    M107 TWS

Just leave it in a bush somewhere or destroy it and sleep soundly knowing you are a legit player.

Hackers? what did you achieve by doing this?

I am not sure what is more offensive: The fact that hackers ruin peoples games. or The fact that that song exists.

    lf bandits to play with

If you mean your voice is pitched that's fine with me but are you one of those kids at screams when they see a bunny or something, that sucks cause it is so annoying. I have played in clans with a few kids your age that were mature enough to not be a bother. Some are so annoying though, but some are very good players. Anyways good luck to you on the search /salute
  16. You guys can always communicate through my site if you need to. That is exactly what it's for. This site is swamped with so many people, and bless all the mods/admins that keeps this thing going because the amount of traffic must be staggering at times,
  17. You have to visit my blog to read the full guide, that's just the way things work. Click here to read the full guide with images and ALL OF THE BEST SETTINGS! As we all know DayZ is a very demanding game, in all senses of the word. ArmA 2 itself needs a good amount of RAM, CPU and GPU power itself, and the DayZ mod adds a whole other layer of code on top. Also since DayZ uses a very unique "hive" central server there is more demand on your internet connection. The game server that we play on have a huge part to play in this equation as well. You really have to make sure your rig is set up properly to get the best performance. The goal is the highest FPS or Frames Per Second that is possible for our machine. Field of view or FOV is may be changed (some people can do without adjusting FOV - depends on your monitor mostly). Click here for a full guide on changing your FOV. There are a lot of tweaks that you can do besides the settings in-game. If you are not comfortable changing your config files, then you might want to leave them alone. MAKE A BACK UP OF ANY FILE BEFORE YOU CHANGE IT. I will not be responsible for you messing up your installation! This is your one and final warning! Since I can't seem to post images anymore you have to go to DayZPvP.com to read about: Graphic Card Settings, Tweaking Arma2OA.cfg, In-Game Settings, and Setting Up the Launch Parameters Including a setting for almost every possible option.

    Spawning Scenarios

This not a bad idea at all. Gives different styles of play more room to breath. Have some beans buddy...
  20. Their stance has softened on Lingor, but the bottom line is they did not make it, so they do not support it. In the future there will be more official DayZ maps. First is the new and improved Chernarus with 72% more enter-able buildings.
  21. DayZPvP.com

    The standalone's direction.

Less hackers, more items, dynamic skins, different kinds of zombies, better team building features, more buildings will be enter-able, less high end military weapons, more civilian weapons, more skins, underground bases, some kind of instancing or other "end game" content.

    Tip for looting Heli crashes

I believe it, another reason why it's best to just send 1 guy with an empty pack in.

    Tip for looting Heli crashes

Both are good tips. Helo crashes are easy because they are out in the open, sometimes you have to work around the tree lines to see both sides and check the loot. I guess my tip to add would be to scout them before you even go near them and beware you have like a 50/50 chance of either it already being hit, an ambush set up, or you running into another crew in the area. I love helo crashes since they are random.
