  1. And those same people who are exploiting via the DC, will also exploit in other ways once that avenue is cut off. They are the ones who the devs need to watch and see what they are doing, also players can report on the forums as to what they are doing. You are treating this as a full release game, you are certainly not treating it as an alpha, something that seems to be forgotten a fair bit. If everyone who is left on the servers are those who would not exploit then again, once the game comes out the tears will flow because of all the exploits the devs didn't fix. Because you guys didn't allow the exploiters to show themselves and their tactics. You seem more concerned with your current "game experience" than you are with helping to identify flaws and good points, again, your treating this as a full release game.
  2. talk about missing the point....... These admin who are saying they ban or are going to ban based on this, do us all a favour and stop hosting a server now. You are obviously not here for a alpha test, you are here "playing" a "game", and that is not what this mod needs. what this mod needs is to be tested. Those same admin will be the loudest when the game is released full, and there are all these exploits in it that people are taking advantage of. And why will they be there ? - because you took things into your own hands and didn't give the devs the chance to investigate and fix those things, so they won't be fixed.
  3. Your poisoning the well so to speak by removing those that will exploit, it means your helping them so that upon full release they will be able to exploit. Let them exploit now while it's in testing so the devs can see how they are doing it and fix it.
  4. I'd suggest is you don't want to follow the rules as they currently stand, drop the server. Wait until something is worked out and then if you like start hosting again. Just because something is a problem as big as the DC crowd, doesn't mean we can all just ignore the rules. It's all well and good to play the decisive admin but at the end of the day it will just end up with your server blacklisted. The mod is in alpha, the DC crowd are kind of useful, as they are showing us all how parts of the game can be exploited, that is exactly the sort of thing the devs need to see so it can be addressed. If the server admin bans most of those users then this game could go full release and still have areas that can be exploited because the crowd that does that kind of thing is no longer able to play and show those bugs. They are testing, you are testing, we are all just testing. Get the idea of "playing" out of your mind, testing is the word you need to remember.

How to fix D/Cers. For real.

Yes, pretty sure it has been mentioned before, but that doesn't mean it's not a good idea :) I would be fine with that, and I think something implemented to stop the DC or at least make it less desireable is a good thing.
  6. Well for instance a video game could be the perfect way to gather data, people are uninhibited on the internet, as in they do not have fear of consequence, just like if there was no more law / police / government. Create a world in which supplies are in short demand, something which is possible in the future of mankind, create an air of high tension, zombies, and put a not to sparse population in close vicinity. You could observe attempts at co-ordination or total anarchy, and have a rough measure of peoples reactions or at least thought processes via their actions, including disconnecting under fire. In a few years this data could be compiled, and the governments of the world will have a good measuring stick so to speak for what is going to happen once they release the super virus that wipes us all out, siding with the illuminati and becoming a horrible scourge upon the earth, and upon the throne of rotting carcasses will sit ... Rocket ... laughing at his guinea pigs destroying themselves in a wanton orgy of violence and forum trolling . . . Ok... perhaps I got a little carried away, that could be the ummm...... afternoons activities :)

Rocket is a sadistic bear f**ker

    Trolololo lo lolo lo lololooool
  8. Meh, a little theory is always a good read. Especially when it is well thought out and "fits". Keep them coming.
  9. I think something everyone would like is a more optimised engine that delivers higher quality graphics. I am sure that Arma III will provide this engine :) I'd like to see a way for single players to give themselves blood (some of us are solo players only due to time constraints). That's not really an engine specific thing though (or is it). I'd like to see more "damage" and a destructable environment, (pretty heavy on the server though) But while I am wishing on pipe dreams etc also more "gore" like limbs being ripped off by zombies and players getting hit with axe (gets embedded in their head / body), more realistic blood. (a lot of what I said isn't really possible with todays tech unless your running it on a super computer or something).
  10. I launch the game through six Updater (go to the mods tab and find DayZ then right click and go to umm actions i think then launch). If I launch through steam interface it gives me that same error.
  11. Bandits should be punished, by death. How to "implement" this ? First thing is to get a group, then collect weapons and whatnot, then hunt bandits . there you go problem solved :)
  12. The game isn't still loading is it ? (sometimes it is very slow). And you do need to run steam as Administrator before launching (run both arma II then arma II OA) once they have completed the setup (DirectX / BattleEye) then you "should" be able to run six launcher and run the game. If none of that works, then try verifying the game cache in steam, let it download / fix what it needs to and start the whole process again. This can be a pain in the ass to get working at first but once you do it's very worth it.
  13. You could be right. Worked through that way it sounds about right.

    This game is fucking garbage!!!!1

OP needs mummy to give him a hug... I've never actually said this to anyone on the forums but .... how about you take your snivelling little snot nose self and leave. Do yourself and us a favour. At best your a troll, at worst your some E-thug wanna be. (E-Thug : Cause talking shit in real life is dangerous). (And to the poster saying to stop trolling the OP, how about you read the OP and the following).

    This game is fucking garbage!!!!1

OP is trolling. Leave it to rage in it's crib.

    This game is fucking garbage!!!!1

Since your such a "nice" fellow; Stop crying like a fucking child and grow up.

    This game is fucking garbage!!!!1

*sigh... Alpha... How about instead of raging, you post in the "bugs" section, identify where / what you had been doing / what happened. In relation to the broken legs. Or just don't play games, any of them, as clearly they "upset" you and are not good for your mental health. What I find "ignorant" is knowing that this is an alpha and then losing your mind when things go wrong. It may be best if you just leave and come back once it's released as a "game" and not just in "testing".
  18. Are you using the steam version ? If so, run steam As Administrator, then run Arma II operation arrowhead, as you normally would. Then exit Arma II and THEN run DayZ through Six or whatever method you prefer. You don't have to do this every time, just the first time you launch the game (Arma II).

    About to buy this game

    Welcome to the snakepit :)
  20. One thing I don't understand, these people who obviously do not like the game, do not like the playerbase, but insist on playing it anyway and then raging about all the things they don't like. As for realism (which is a weak argument) but anyway, lets run with it for a sec, you have a limited supply of food, you have a limited supply of water, you are living in a post-apocalyptic time where "infected" are all over the place. You see a lone person making their way towards your "area", the things you may have going through your mind, what if they are infected and haven't fully "zombied" out yet ? , what if they are bait from a bandit group ? what if they are insane and will stab you in your sleep. Do you take the risk, expose your position, and make yourself vulnerable ? - or do you just try to avoid them / kill on sight to save worries. IF this situation ever arose, then yes, kill on sight would be the only people who survive. But that's really neither here nor there, as it's not really possible to say %100 what would happen, but those are my thoughts on it. Again if you don't like participating in the alpha then ...well....don't. Don't come on and just flat out abuse others because your upset.

Be aware, I'm going to start banning.

Was it more or less of a "threat" than yours ? Your here saying you are deliberately going to go against the rules as set out and agreed to upon becoming a server admin. So you had lied when you agreed to the terms then ? Dc'ing is an "exploit", it's an exploit that currently you are not able to ban for, it is being "fixed", and will be resolved all in good time. In my mind, if your going to go against the rules and ban people then if someone else goes against the rules and hammers your server then isn't it just desserts ? All this thread has done is make yourself a target, and it is admin like yourself that will push this game to a dev only run server situation where you pay a monthly fee to play. Yes it is annoying, but at the end of the day all it does is result in you either getting killed (no big deal), or you not getting a kill (again no big deal). To go against rules and just ban people because they do something that upsets you is an indicator that you would also ban for other reasons that are not so "legit". Rules are rules, we may not like them, but you do agree to them, otherwise you wouldn't have a server, so again unless you blatantly lied, and that's also telling of character, then you are not able to ban for this reason. Remember it's alpha, no-one is supposed to be attached to their gear, or get upset because they are killed / bested, regardless of how cheap the other player acts. Exploit does not equal hack, it would be good if the devs came forward and said "Ok, you can ban for DC", but at this stage they have not, so you cannot. It's just the way it is, I'd suggest you deal with it and not break the agreement.
  22. My advice is to stay well away from any russian servers, I have seen in some "shady" circles claims that a BE ban can be caused, not by communication with BE servers but via spoofing GUID on the server so that when the cheat is detected it bans a different player not the player who is running the hack. I have no idea how that is even possible, but the people who mentioned this are not given to lying about their capabilities. For whatever reason the Ru servers seem to be the servers of choice for testing their cheats. And on a side note as has been repeated here many times : BattleEye bans cannot under any circumstances EVER be lifted by anyone but the BattleEye staff, and to date I've never heard of them lifting a ban. Same as VaC / PB (these even state that if your account is compromised it's your own fault and the ban will not be lifted regardless).
  23. And how will you be able to tell who is who ? So you lifted the ban out of worry for your other server, not because you realise that you have done the wrong thing, that speaks volumes. If you cannot properly admin a server then you should really hand it over to someone who can, or just not at all. (this isn't BF3 / COD / CSS / Etc, where you can set server specific rules, the server rules / guidlines are layed out very clearly, and really that should take all the guess work out of it. Everyone knows the rules before they setup a server and yet we still see this kind of thing so often. Perhaps the best thing is for this to go to Pay per month / MMO style and have rocket / team admin the servers. No community run servers at all.
  24. It's not "griefing" if it's an intented method of play. Griefing is usually "spoiling" the game by doing things that you should not be, grey area sure. But saying that killing people is griefing is a long stretch that's like saying killing people in an FPS deathmatch is griefing. DayZ is deathmatch, it's PVP, with a PvE element. And on top of all that it's not yet a "game", it's an alpha, a sufacing idea, nothing more at this stage.
  25. In red... So you suspect, and ban based on that, that's not "proof", quite often when someone has their ass handed to them they "suspect" the other person of cheating, I mean there is no way that someone could god forbid, be "better" than you, no, they must be cheating. Server hopping is not exploiting. In a firefight yes it is a dog thing to do and should be stopped, but when your not in a firefight then it makes no difference and as another poster said it is required to move your tent / gear. One good thing in all this is that we can all see which clans are "honourable" and those who are not, sadly it seems that there are very few who don't take advantage as soon as they start a server. Obviously these guys are noobs, their clan is nothing, and I'll keep an eye out for them in competitions so if they show up I can let others know what they're about.
