If DayZ was ever made into a stand alone game, would you be open to a single player experience (eventually) being included?
Psyl3nt replied to xPandaHunterx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As far as a single player mode, sure, why not. I don't see it as a bad thing, it could be used as a "boot camp" for playing online aswell, like the tutorials in Arma II. -
Simple Deterance to Trigger happy CoD fans and "bandits"

Reading and comprehension not a stong point round here eh . . . -
I wouldn't say that just because something hasn't been done that it "can't" be done . . if everyone thought this way we would still be living in caves :)

If DayZ wasn't situated in Chernarus
Psyl3nt replied to shemashko's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd like to see something with more of a city / jungle type mixture. I guess like the island on Crysis (1st one). Not exactly but that kind of thing, chernarus is good, but yeah, it does get "old" quick. A ruined city would be cool to be able to search (subways / tunnels / alleys / buildings) you could even include a train or something that you can get going . . . -

I do all those things ? wow, I never knew.... In all the time I've played this mod, I have "murdered" about 3 people. You have missed the entire point of my original post, which was in relation to your mention of "trigger happy COD fans" - saying that you have the delusion that anyone who kills someone else in this game or more specifically anyone who kills YOU "must" be a COD player because well, just because ! . . . . . My comment was stating that you must suck at CoD and got upset and butthurt in that game so you blame that playerbase for things you don't like in this one. You carry on about others not being "closed minded" but there it is in your topic, that identifies you immediately as some nub who is going to cry no matter what the game is or what the mechanics of it are. This is DayZ, making suggestions is fine, but attempting to berate others for voicing their disagreement is again indicitive of yourself being the "closed minded" one. Most here are happy with rockets advances in the game, PvP from what I understand is a major part of his idea, we cannot expect total realism because it detracts from the game experience, but where it's possible it's good to have, when you shoot someone in real life you do not "change", it would be a one in a million that shooting someone would cause some mental disorder, especially when faced with a zombie apocolypse where bloodshed and death are a daily encounter. If your going to lose your mind over shooting a person, then you won't last very long when you walk into a town and see zombies feasting on the rotten carcass of their latest kill. -
BattleEye does this, scanning the database for hacked in items could work, but then I guess you have the issue of people looting hacked items from a cheaters corpse or being "given" items, getting detected and then banned.

It's pretty handy for long bush runs and you want to go get a drink / munch / bio / whatever. -
Same with the "Admin abuse" - I've actually never seen a server blacklisted even though there are threads that offer total proof (Screenshots / Fraps videos). Which is why I think that all that kind of thing : Hacking / Admin abuse, is on the rise and certainly going to get worse before it gets better. As dev's there probably isn't that much time to spend on going through all the posts and selecting which ones are "real" and which ones are just butthurt people having a cry. I would imagine it's a massive job and a very slow process, but, there is always a but, something needs to be done otherwise it will just run away and will reach a situation where if you follow up on all the ones that have been "let go" it will end up taking down the majority of servers and players. So who knows what to do ? - play something else till it gets sorted perhaps ?

Yes my ego needs a boost so I make it seem like something I don't like in this game, must be caused by others from "another" game I suck at . . . . -
pretty sure WarZ is going to be on console, so there you go :) (why it would be your preferred platform for FPS games I'll never know).
-
somebody's thinking :)
-
Usually I wait till the food / drink icons are flashing red before I eat / drink, that way I think it makes them last the maximum amount of time. That is not based on any actual fact or knowledge about the game, just a guess, but that's how I do it :)

Just seems to be more and more of this kind of thing happening. Perhaps due to the recent outbreak of admin's claiming they are going to "Do what they want" since there is no current fix for DCers and because there does not seem to be any blacklistings occuring at all.
-
Run steam as administrator before running both games , there can be an issue with writing the serial into your registry if it's not running as administrator.
-
I guess we could end up with chernarus being the start map, and once you travel outside it's boundaries you move to another "instance" on the same server (on all servers) and it's a new map / extension. So you could travel a lot further and effectively have a 450km squared map. or more even.

Yea funnily enough, a "white hat" hacker would be attempting this on a private server that they have setup not going online and playing against other players. I like someone who is "learning" telling me what I do and do not know... 796f75722061206675636b776974 There is no knowledge to be gained from doing what you claim to be doing, the only outcome is a working cheat. Funny I've never seen a proof of concept game cheat before, and probably never will. You don't even have the balls to admit it, you just want to have an advantage over someone else, there is no other purpose for doing it. What are you going to do ? - submit your source to the Arma devs ? or will it wind up being available via "donation" on a website somewhere ? Another "funny" thing I notice is that it's always the ones who make these claims of being a "hacker" who are in fact the script kiddies, anyone worth their salt would never admit anything like that on a public forum regardless of intent.
-
White hate hacker .... LOL - dont ever in any way shape or form attempt to liken a video game cheater with a "hacker". It is in no way whatsoever even similar. And unless you have written the cheat yourself, through means that you have discovered, not just downloaded something your mates got their hands on, then you are script kiddie wanna be cheat. Don't try to "glorify" it.
-
After a bit of reading etc, it seems that the OCR / capture are viable, meaning it is entirely possible, but it seems that the "cheat" community are pretty well aware of ways to beat it already, it just annoys me so much, there is very little that annoys me to the level that people cheating in online games does. I just cannot see the point (apart from say trolling a particular server / person / admin). There are anti-cheat systems that are "standalone" , I guess if a separate anti-cheat was developed then it could be a mod requirement to have it installed, pretty difficult to do :(

DE 239 Worst server ever!
Psyl3nt replied to zumb.sasha@googlemail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
That's not the server admin, it's the physical server or (more likely) your connection, you do know the "colour chains" represent connection issues ? The server could have been restarted a number of times because everyone on there was having those same lag type problems. Or the server crashed a couple times (this can happen). Don't immediately blame the admin and call for blacklisting, things do go wrong sometimes. How about we save the "horrible admin" posts for those servers who actually deserve it that way the forums are not cluttered with "false" posts and end up making it so the real ones who are doing the wrong thing get overlooked. -
I wouldn't say it's "impossible" :) And the idea is to use it in conjunction with existing technologies. I wasn't aware of the PBSS workarounds :( (to be honest I was not aware PB even did that). dammit. (I'm glad I'm employed to write "hello world" on consoles cause that's what you do when your writing software for industrial machinery / systems, we have racks of systems that all say "hello world" well I lie, they just say "hello", I haven't gotten to the stage where I can make 2 words 79 6f 75 72 20 61 20 66 75 63 6b 77 69 74).

A lot of the cheats I have seen, have in-game menus, they are not just scripts that say launch on startup / through console (though I am sure that some do), so a combination of current anti-cheat tech, with this kind of thing could be possible. I think if you capture the screenshot directly from the GPU then it "shouldn't" return a black screen in any circumstance, unless the screen is black. "seriously stop this" Why ? (that is a true statement, google that and you will see there is a cheat for that game that works just like that). I suppose I could stop forcing you to stay and post in this thread .......... The current anti-cheat system does not work, and to be honest I've never seen one that really does work. There are and probably always will be ways to get around them but at least we can try to think of ways to make it more difficult to do.
-
Well the cheats themselves are using this technology to cheat. Albeit in little games like words with friends. They are screen capturing then using OCR to auto-complete / auto select letters etc and output them to the game as if a human did. So they can do it.... of course on a PC it is different, one thing I know is you can grab a "capture" of the data as it is in the GPU, theoretically this is what the player is looking at as it is there before it is processed by the monitor. OCR technology is pretty good now, it CAN recognise text and output / parse the text. There would be keywords looked for, but then I guess there is a problem of say a player typing something in game and that getting captured / processed and if it's something that matches a "cheat" type keyword then they get unfairly banned. At the moment it's just a though, but I am curious about it. Assuredly I will look with more depth into the technologies involved, I wanted to offer the idea here to see if others with technical views / knowledge had anything to add / detract / suggest.
-
You can believe what you like, if you "know" so much then please explain in a technical manner. OR you don't like the idea of being caught ? OR you just like to put down ideas with no thought. which one is it ? It is possible to read back data from the GPU using CUDA / Open CL (for other reasons but perhaps adaptable). A little google action and it turns out there is a cheat for words with friends that works on OCR . . so there is something. wrong side of the fence but shows that it could be possible. On a side note : My level of developing is on industrial machinery / computers. So when it comes to games specifically I don't know that much about it. But I do know a bit about non-standard hardware etc and some creative methods to get hardware to do what you want.
