why does everyone hate tthe idea of duel weapons
KField86 replied to resistence1993's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No. There. I didn't have to troll or use caps lock to express my opinion. Stupid idea is stupid. -
Going to be hard getting someone to come out there when they know there's a good chance they'll get themselves killed in the process. Especially if you are within the complex itself. Your best bet is to use 3rd person so you can see a little bit better, and crawl out of there to avoid detection from zombies, and just start heading north into the forest. If you have a hatchet, knife and matches, then just shoot any animal you see and take your time to cook the meat at each stop and eat as much as you can. Pray the whole time as well, because someone can fart 300 meters away and you'll be dead. I think people would feel a little bit safer coming out there to assist you if you got a good bit away from the compound. At least 300-400m. Preferably more.

Yup, L85A2 AWS. Best gun in the game for a spotter. Decent range(I didn't feel comfortable engaging at more than 200m though, and Ialways used it in semi automatic). Has zeroing. Nightvision & Thermal optics. Decent power since it fires 5.56 and it takes STANAGS which are fairly easy to find. The only thing is, when you use an L85 for long enough, you get so adjusted to the power of having thermal that going back to not having it kinda sucks :P Then again, some people get a little complacent when they have it since the thermal is pretty much like a wallhack :P

Still a good idea, for both survivors and bandits alike. For bandits, it becomes sort of a trophy, but as a survivor if you get the kill on a bandit, and see he has 10 or more murders on him, you'd feel good for avenging the fallen. Truthfully, this is one of the more "sane" ideas I've seen posted on these forums. Nothing about this would be game breaking in any way. I would say the Dogtag would only show some minor information. Name. Amount of player kills. Time alive on that character. Maybe zombie kills as well? Basically everything that's available on the debug monitor. The only problem I see, and I'm sure this wouldn't be a problem for a stand-alone game, is how the system would go about saving the dogtags because obviously they would take up quite a lot of room in the player's inventory. If you look at something like World of Warcraft, they had a separate inventory all together for keys, called the Key ring I think. Maybe something like that, where you can pull up a separate inventory screen, and then all of the dogtags would go there once they were looted. Then, to put the cherry on top, you'd be able to select each dog, and put a note on it. For example: Randomperson01's dogtag "Engaged in a firefight on 07/20/2012 just outside of Zelenogorsk. Firefight lasted approximately 45 seconds. I was injured in the process, but my buddy kept me alive and I got the kill on Randomperson01." Just as memories so to speak. The dogtags would be attached to your current character and wouldn't carry over for gameplay reasons, as each new character is it's own entity. I know the mechanics are already there for this kind of feature. I'm sure some arma modder has already thought of it in their mod. Just need Rocket to do some testing. I think that would be pretty badass myself.

Can someone explain the point of ALT-F4
KField86 replied to Rising (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
+1 You'd have to be retarded to think it's not a good reason to log out of the game. If you want to die, and then continue to play on a server with hackers, feel free. Me, I use my head and try to make my experience in game an enjoyable one and goto a different server. -
Can someone explain the point of ALT-F4
KField86 replied to Rising (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not a justifiable excuse to the use of ALT F4. The only time I've ever ALT F4'd in this game is when I was stuck in an object and couldn't move, or to escape from a hacker dropping bombs from a harrier jet, or if they teleport to me and chase me with a hatchet and have the god-mode script on or something else that's equally stupid. Had to do it just the other day because one of them teleported to me while I was at my camp, and I watched him teleport further and further away. Just looked like a glitchy, laggy zombie. Then he turned around and started firing that automatic grenade launcher from Arma. I heard it firing and thankfully he was a terrible shot. One of the rounds went off right behind me and it broke my leg and brought me to 5.5k blood, so I dc'd. I can't stand the thought of losing all my shit to something like that. Thankfully this hasn't happened all that often, and I'm proud to say I have never logged from a firefight no matter if I was outnumbered or not, and regardless of how good of a kit I was carrying. People think that just because someone sees you first and starts firing at you, that you can't get away or come out of it breathing. I've gotten out of sticky situations like that a ton of times by using my head, or by being more accurate and taking the person out. People can disagree with it all they want, but I'm not going to stay in game and let a hacker walk all over me when I have no means of dealing any damage to him with what's available to me in the game. If you do, well... you're a fool. If you invest time in this game, just to lose it to something you yourself cannot do unless you modify the games script, then well... good for you. I've only had to ALT F4 3 times in the last 2 months. Once was when I was stuck in barbed wire and couldn't get out, the second time was someone flying in a jet and dropping bombs on the apartments in cherno where I was(saw him out the back window), the other was the person with the automatic grenade launcher and the "demi-god" godmode script that was teleported 20 meters at a time. You can even see these scripts on youtube. In those cases I'm not ALT F4ing just to evade death by hacker. I'm doing it because I simply don't want to play on a server where hackers are present, and in some cases where there's one, there's many. I imagine hackers like to work in their little pre-pubescent circle jerk voice comms giggling all the way home. -
Will DAYZ become a priced game? or will it remain free for ARMA
KField86 replied to xp51mustangx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's going to have a cost. Maybe $19.99 or even $29.99 once it becomes a polished & boxed stand-alone. Rocket doesn't work for free, even if he likes to say he is right now. Everyone has to eat. I would imagine that people who bought the game in alpha will be treated like people who pre-order and receive a decent discount on the final product though. That's fair. I mean, in a way, we are working for Rocket since we're helping him develop the game by testing it, finding bugs, and offering suggestions which may end up in the final product. -
Anybody up for a rescue mission?
KField86 replied to drseptapus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As other people have said already, it was a terrible idea to place that map marker on your location saying you have a broken leg and need morphine. I guarantee, if you aren't dead already, someone is going to be paying you a visit and it won't be to give you morphine. All it takes is 1 person out of the 40 or 50 people on the server thinking to himself "Oh, this should be fun. Let's go investigate! *Trollface*". Since this is your first character, let us give you some helpful advice. Never place a map-marker on your location. It's a giant risk you don't have to take, ESPECIALLY when you're immobile. Edit: Good to know you were rescued. I'm glad a good guy came along and patched you up. But my advice still stands... don't ever place a map marker down where you are since every person on the server can see it and immediately know where you are, as well as seeing the condition you were in since you advertised it. Instead, come on the forums in the survivor section and make a post. Be aware you're still taking a giant risk by doing this especially if you have a good amount of gear that people may want for themselves. That's the nature of the game. If this happens again, and you have to make a post... have your weapon up and ready to fire. When you hear someone coming, alert them to your presence and tell them you have your weapon facing the entrance to your location. If they act funny, they die. Establish communication with them, and then hope everything goes smooth. You got help this time, which is great. Don't expect it to be this way every time though, because I promise you it won't. There are bandits that will lull you into a false sense of security, and then put a bullet in your brain right before giving you the morphine so they get to keep it, as well as taking anything of value off your body, even a can of beans(They may not have any, and aren't around a town) or soda, among other things. You may have an inferior weapon, but food & water is important when you're in land. -
I'm looking for this lol, or raging thing... and by golly I sure as hell can't find it anywhere! I mean surely, no one else in this game of 700,000 people has ever sniped someone at Stary Sobor and hid their body right? That's like, unheard of! I would imagine someone would have to be like, the best player in the game or something to pull off a feat this incredible. Here sir, have an internet. Edit: For spelling :o

Post apacolyptic greifing simulator for D-bags
KField86 replied to skyter's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My question is, why are people who choose a legitimate playstyle all douchebags, or faggots, or dicks, or any other name you can think of? To be honest, that makes you more immature than the piss poor bandits with AS50s and M107s camping Cherno. I'm a bandit, but I don't do things like that. I tend to stay up north so that when I do come across another player, it's usually someone with a bit of experience and decent gear that allows him to be a threat to me if he locates me. But really, I'm curious. It's always "Douchebag bandit" or "bandits are faggots" and shit like that. Grow the fuck up. You get killed in a game, and all you do is cry except learning from your mistakes. Your problem is your so jaded to any other play-style but your own, and you seem to be wanting others to conform to your playstyle. So basically, if I don't go around acting friendly towards everyone I see, or because I like to use a sniper rifle(as I have in every other fps I've played since I like them), I'm immediately a douchebag. To me, that's more childish than most bandits I've seen in game for the last 2 months. Edit: This is not referring to the OPs post. This is referring to the majority of posts I see regarding bandits. Just a generalization I guess. -

Every time someone makes suggestions about karma, or humanity, or changing the pvp system, Rocket comes in and pretty much tells you in the most blunt way possible, NO NOT HAPPENING. Yet people still ask, and ask, and ask. The man himself is happy with the way the system is right now as far as pvp goes. He has also said countless times that it's up to the players to make the rules as he doesn't feel the need to alter anything when it comes to bandits and player killing. You guys are talking to a wall. You don't like the amount of player killing, or people shooting on sight. Fine, we understand. I'm not going to sit here and tell you "It's realistic, society would be destroyed. People will kill each other!" because I don't believe that for a second. Anyone who says that is truly retarded because people don't understand the amount of psychological stress you'd have to go through to be able to point a gun at someone and pull the trigger. Most people feel sick when they see death, let alone being the one to cause it. Soldiers have to go through immense psychological training just so that they CAN pull the trigger on someone when the need arises. Thinking you'd be able to do it without thought is absolutely asinine and I guarantee more than 75% of the people claiming this wouldn't be able to. What I will say though, is that I don't see this portion of the game changing at all. I'm a bandit, I roleplay being a bandit to some extent. I shoot on sight when I feel threatened in the least. I shoot on sight when I see someone in the area me and my squad are in if they are competition for high value loot spawns that we came there for. If I catch someone off guard and I'm close enough to them to warn them via direct chat, I will usually do so, but if they don't comply with me within a few seconds, they die. I can't take that chance if I don't have to. Simple as that. -

Jesus christ, another one of these threads. Sigh. -
Alice pack. Everything needed to kill/cook animals. A couple of canteens. 1911 & Ammo. At least one blood pack, 2 morphine and 2 or 3 bandages. Then hopefully I'll stumble across a lee enfield so that I can take out someone at medium-range if I need to. Or an AKM if I stumble upon one. Compass is very important to, but if I'm on a server with waypoints I can usually do without it right away if I find a map first.
-
I've had one, but found that even though the range finder is really easy to use and accurate, it's hard to use it to get a range on someone if they're constantly moving. Plus, if you have a rangefinder, there's really no purpose in having one unless you're trying to be really stealthy, because when it's combined with a ghillie suit, you're damn hard to see. Also, it's not a one hit kill unless it's a perfect head shot, so people still have time to ALT F4 when hit so I went back to my M107 and will probably keep the M107 unless I feel like having another AS50 just for the reduction in noise.
-
I see what you're saying Zed, and I agree... but you can't deny people that watch streams just to go and find the streamer in game to kill him is a bitch thing to do. It's like playing split screen with someone, and they're constantly looking at your side of the screen. Can't stop someone from doing it, but damn is it annoying lol. I used to have people over when Halo 2 first came out for Xbox, and we'd drink some beers and play since we had about 3 tvs setup in the game room and they'd bring over their consoles. There was this one guy who I would always catch looking at other peoples screens. I'd take his beer everytime I caught him :D Though anyone streaming this game now-a-days has overlays setup that block their IGN from displaying on screen, and if they die they cut the stream when the You Are Dead screen appears so you can't see the server name.

What kind of ammo does the AS50 take?
KField86 replied to master721's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
yeah Zed is right. The AS-50 magazines are called 5Rnd 12.7x99mm NATO I believe, and you can also use M107 magazines. There isn't any difference between the two except the fact that M107 magazines hold 10 rounds, where as the AS-50s hold 5. In the files, it supposedly states that the AS-50 5 round magazines do an extreme amount of damage, but that holds no water in DayZ against players. -
DMR mil dots for CLOSER targets
KField86 replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The zero doesn't lower depending on what zoom level you're using. Some say it does, but I've tested it pretty extensively (a couple of hours) on a shooting range mission for Arma II OA and I noticed no variation in bullet splash on targets when switching between the two of them at 400m. I never did check the mil-dots when engaging targets at closer than 400m. If they are around 200-300m, I just aim lower than I want to hit. If they are at 300, I aim for the chest. 200, I aim around the waist. At 450-500m, I use the first mil-dot. 600, second, and 700 I typically put the 3rd mil-dot just over their head since it's a little off in measurement. I don't like to shoot past 700 with the DMR because I don't find it all that accurate. The M24 on the other hand is a tack driver. Much better than the DMR in my opinion, even though the DMR shoots faster and can be used with NVGs. The zeroing is key, but it's nice to be able to accurately use the mil-dots instead of using the zeroing as a crutch. You'll better yourself that way. I wish I could find an SVD though. I love that rangefinder system. Very intuitive, it just gets a little complicated if a target is prone. The only thing is you need to get the target to stop to get an accurate range estimate. Still cool though. And the zero on the DMR is absolutely 400m, not 300. The information on this varies, but if you goto armaholic, and download the mission called "The Shooting Range" you can test this yourself, as I have, and you'll see the zero is indeed 400. Like someone else said, most engagements with a sniper rifle tend to occur around 300-400m. At that range, you'll hit the target if you're aiming at them everytime. You won't shoot over their head, or below them.. At 400, aim dead on. 300, aim for the chest, and you'll probably hit in the neck area. -
That doesn't necessarily mean it won't happen. He hasn't said specifically the mechanic he's going to implement. He's working on multiple ways of combating it and we may see a more worthwhile mechanic implemented to prevent this exploit. Truthfully, I think they need to just go ahead and allow server hosts to kick and/or ban for abusing this. At least until the issue is rectified. I simply don't understand what the problem is. Theres hundreds of servers. If I want to ban someone ghosting or disconnecting from combat, when Rocket himself has said this is a known EXPLOIT, why can't I ban someone for doing it? They'll just find a different server anyway within a couple of minutes, and they won't be losing any of their gear and progress.. They just won't be allowed to play on my server, and ruin the time of the gamers playing on the server I provide them. I'm still going to be renting a server regardless, but I really don't want anyone to have a bad experience because of exploits while playing there. Shame.
-
He probably knows that, but I agree. I can't remember the last time I fired my primary at zombies, unless me and my group were booking it out of the NWAF because we had a couple potential snipers ghosting around us, since whenever we took fire, someone ALWAYS logged off the server when we returned fire trying to supress them. So instead of stopping to take out our secondaries giving them an opportunity to take a standing still shot on us, we would just walk backwards and drop them with ARs, and we also had no idea where they would be engaging from if they were ghosting. Think I went through 2 mags for my M4 :D. I used to love my Silenced M9 and I tend to pick one up whenever I find one, but once I run out of magazines for it, I just pick up the next 1911 I see. I love the M9 SD for when I'm areas like Stary of NWAF, when I'm clearing a few zeds out quietly just to get to the loot spawns, but other than those times where I need to be quiet and I can get easy headshots on non-aggro'd zeds, the 1911 is just miles better for the simple fact it's a 1 hit KO on zeds and it's also a 4-6 shot kill on a player if you hit them in the chest, where as the 9mm varieties take upwards of 8 or 9 rounds to take out a player if you hit them anywhere other than the head I find. Being silenced usually doesn't matter in the airfield, because unless I can kill zombies that haven't aggro'd, if there are other players in the area, they'll just see my zombie spawns, or zombies that I've aggro'd and then being quiet doesn't matter anymore(Being quick does though). Oh well. I still like the M9 SD just because it looks boss, and it sounds awesome. Plus the sights aren't too bad either, better than the 191 I say, although nothing beats the G17's sights.

Will this run DayZ on low settings?
KField86 replied to TheDude8D's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Visibility is set server side. Whether you have it set to 3000 or 12000 in your game client doesn't matter since the server is what makes the decision as to how far you'll see. Try it if you don't believe me. OP: The game will probably run, but be pretty much unplayable. You may get playable frame-rates at the absolute lowest settings, and at a very low resolution but would you even enjoy the game with that kind of limitation? To be honest with you, the only thing you can do is try Arma II free, but even that is not a good bench mark because I get more frames in Arma II CO than I do in DayZ so your mileage will vary. Having to deal with already glitchy zombies at the kind of frame-rate you'd see with that machine would be adding insult to injury. This game uses much more CPU power than it does GPU, and surprisingly your HDD makes a big difference as well. I run an i7 2600K that's overclocked, and my cpu load is extremely high, while my gpu load is like half of that. Though I haven't monitored it while playing in sometime now. No one will know for sure if the game will run or not because we don't have your specifications. The game could launch fine, but freeze up once in game. Or, the game could play at 5 frames per second, which when coupled with the zombies, is unplayable. Loading into the game doesn't necessarily mean it's playable. That's why no one can give you a definitive answer. -
Sorry, but I'm going to call out anyone who uses "grammar" as an insult, when they can't even form a proper sentence themselves. You asked for it. Regardless of the time you put into it or not. If you're going to call someone outand use grammar as an insult, usually you take the time to make sure you're using proper grammar and punctuation yourself. *facepalm AND headdesk* at the same time.
-
You realize your bitching about people bitching doesn't make the situation any better right? Actually, this kind of bitching is more fucking pathetic than the people complaining about server hoppers or people who want to quit because they don't like pvp. Just sayin' Please don't talk about grammar if you aren't going to follow the basic rules of punctuation, and have somewhat broken english as well. Ugh. Hypocrites are the worst. And stop using bandit like it's some form of insult. It's a play-style, and without it, you'd probably be bored of the game within a couple of weeks. I can't think of one person I've ever met from DayZ(And I've played with dozens of people now) who has ever said they would enjoy the game without bandits. There would be no tension, no fear of losing your items since a group can easily mow down a horde of zombies, and if you play properly, one person alone never has to worry about being outnumbered by zombies. I don't think anyone, myself included, wants to play a game like that. I know Rocket sure as hell doesn't. So why would anyone use being a bandit as some sort of insult? They make the game BETTER for people like you, and they present you with a challenge you wouldn't find from Zombies. Keep getting killed? Change your tactics and strategy. We're playing DayZ. Not my little pony.
-
This is why I shoot other players.
KField86 replied to She'llberight's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ahahaha, that's great. It's really funny actually because me and my group have only been playing their starting like last week because we randomly picked it, and the population seemed good, and we hadn't run into any hackers there yet, so it's kinda stuck(this will change once my server gets white-listed). Anyway, about 3 nights ago, we raided about 7 tents on the very west edge of the map. Got a handful of ghillie suits, 2 AS-50s, and M107, M4A1 CCO SDs, FALs, a UAZ, ATV, etc. Plus multiple pairs of NVGs and a couple of range finders. Maybe it was them. None of us got banned though. So I guess that's cool lol. It may have not be theres though but I suspect it was. The camp was pretty much on the map edge west of Shosnovka & Zelenogorsk -
This is why I shoot other players.

I agree with you. Sadly though, many people don't.
