    Enfield or Winchester?

Hatchet for zombies. Its a Primary. No trouble finding SD rounds for it either.
  2. How to end "Deathmatching" Definition: A Survivor/Bandit will kill you for loot or a survival reason. A PK'er killed you for the point on his debug screen. I don't consider bandits to be the people breaking the spirit of the game, but PK'ers are the server-hopping alt-f4 griefers who want to ruin your experience for a laugh and don't give a shit about your beans. 1) Head North - PK'ers killing you for lawls are on the coast where the easy kills are. North, someone killed you for a survival reason. the only pk'ers in the north will be at the heavy (military) farming zones. 2) Improve Communication - (This needs to be done both in engine and out of it) 3) Organize - A lone bandit won't fire on a column of 5-6 guys. Unless you do something stupid like stand still in a group just the right size for a frag or M203. Or Flare. Or Smoke Grenade. Heck, I'll kill you for doing that, cause I need practice with frags. 4) Retaliate - Just as the best bandit weapon is a good sniper rifle, the best pk weapon is a good sniper rifle, and the best anti-pk weapon is a sniper rifle. Where are you GUARANTEED to find a sniper rifle? The hills and roofs of the big cities. This will work until the PK'ers know that players on that server see them as a nice big fat paycheck and head to a different one. If you have a basic weapon and good sneaking skills then you can get some nice gear before you head north off ONE pk kill. All the solutions are in game already. If your server is overrun with assholes, kill them, write their name/clan down, and kill all of them everytime you see one. If you don't want them in your game, make sure they know the penalty for murder isn't a different skin, its a bullet in the head.

    Elektrovadsk

Make it work for you. The hills around Cherno/Elektro are a good source of high-grade equipment from point & click trash. That is, it would be if every single one of them didn't alt-f4 out like a bitch the moment they were engaged.

    Some feature ideas requesting feedback

Another option to make radio towers useful would be Coding the radio towers and making them spawn points (i think this is adding several ideas already stated here together). When you log on a server, you are default set to random spawn coastline. Then for every active radio tower, you can choose to spawn there, IF you know the code for it. Codes would be set when the tower was placed. While I hate removing the more realistic spawning where you logged out, forcing specific location spawns would cut down on server hopping for both farming and make it virtually impossible to 'ghost'. Throw in destructable towers (Or even reprogrammable!) and only the best geared/highest pop clans would be able to maintain a tower near a loot source. I second the idea of having towers that block zed spawning as well, so that we might begin to retake Chernarus. Of course this would also have to limit the amount of loot spawns in the area.

    Some feature ideas requesting feedback

Rather than change where a person spawns, I like the idea of a radio drop which could drop in any loot space. When a player logs in for the first time to a server it sends out a ping, anyone with a radio within a certain radius will hear a squak. When you log out it starts a catalogue, logging into another server will send out the same squak. If you log into another server after that within 10 minutes, it sends out a 3 squak pulse, alerting anyone who hears it that the person who joined has been on multiple servers. If you log back into a previous server within a 10 min window after being in a different one, it sends out the 3 squaks plus any player with a radio will hear increased static when they are facing the person's login position. Static lasts 15 seconds. So: Login = squak 50m Position farming = 3 squaks (possibly adding an additional squak for each server visited within the last 30 mins, so a person with 3 might just be unlucky with servers, but a person with 5 or 6 is definitly abusing the system) 50m +10 for each server visited. Ghosting = alert plus loss of position advantage. 300m Radio would have a 5% drop rate from any pile and fits on toolbelt. Also, I think they should just code into the game that Alt-F4 (when fully logged in) just kills your character.
  6. Spend a few lives getting used to how you can move safely around zombies and where certain items spawn. Once you know how to avoid zeds, then you can gear up and head north. In fact, spend some time learning how to determine north at day or night, study the map. don't bother with the southern cities unless your on a low pop server. Then head north. There are several good loot sites spread out across the map, so you SHOULD be safe. Remember this: You aren't safe anywhere. That's not your gear in your bag, you are just holding it for some person in the future who will hopefully do you the courtesy of at least searching your body after they kill you. Your "score" is how long you can go without that happening.
  7. If I'm alone, I avoid contact, in a group, assess and act. We killed someone logging in to a supermarket after some discussion, since we figured he'd open fire in a panic if he spawned in a circle of assault rifles pointed at him.

Any Seattle (NW) based late night teams?

check out ugN gaming, they have a thread here. We could use more US players. Right now we have 2 and we play late night, about 1030pm-2am CST so about 830-12 your time. sometimes play early morning depending on work schedule.
  9. /signed Best gaming experience I've had since System Shock 2. Console gamers don't deserve games this good.

Petition to spawn with a weapon!

I'd rather start with nothing at all than start with a gun.

Ammo Scarcity, Military Gear, and more

I agree that military grade weaponry needs to be ultra-rare, with perhaps the downed choppers being the only source of ammo refills. Degradation could lead to the need to find a weapon maintenance kit/gun oil or the need to regularly clean your weapon. High end guns, especially electronics (thermal scope/NVG, etc.) should be very susceptible to damage and unrepairable, but I think this would also require some kind of system that allows for the removal/switching of items. Heavy Rain, swimming etc should have more than just a temperature effect. Gun Jamming would fit right in with the horror aspect of the game. I know it gave me some grey hairs in System Shock 2. It would also up the value of simple weapons or well built guns like the AK.
  12. First person who I met had no gun, we were both in the firehouse which had been freshly looted. Went separate ways. Shot entering Rog Castle about 30 min later. Shot in back crawling into Elektro looking for morphine. Shot in back entering a wired farm north of Cherno Shot in the back after fighting off a wave of zombies with 2 other players (one met in game, other friend from outside). At least 2 bandits killed us from the tree line using what sounded like M16's. Now I use Alt-freelook like a paranoid rabbit and stick to the forest as much as I can, even at night with only 4 players on. From now on, I'll treat any player as something that can get me killed if we aren't already in separate voice chat. If they are unarmed, I might not shoot them, but I'm certainly not giving them a weapon.
  13. I didn't read all 14 pages, but why not simple code in Alt-F4 as a kill code for the character playing? If you alt-f4 while logged in, the next time you log in, you're at the beach with a bandage and some painkillers. I also support the idea of leaving your character logged in whenever you disconnect from a server (I'd say through the next save cycle, rather than save on disconnect.) If you aren't logging out in a safe place, then you shouldn't be logging out there. This would make it pointless to log out to avoid death, because by logging out in a dangerous situation, you guarantee death. That and server hopping for gear would take longer, and leave you at the mercy of the sweet spot you just left.

The tension and anxiety is addictive!

If he's with a group that doesn't have scoped weapons, then probably a hunter. If they all have scoped weapons, bandits.
  15. Ampoliros

@ Beginners..no gun start is not impossible

I'd almost prefer for you to start with nothing at all. I'm not in the habit of carrying around a bandage or painkillers, why do I wash up on the beach with them?
  16. I know there are tons of guides but the point of this one is for everyone to share their wisdom. Just post a quick rule-of-thumb/wisdom nugget/something that kept you alive when you should have died, even if its "Save your last bullet for your buddy, cause he has that nice shiny X" The first rule I'll post is this: 1) If you meet a friendly survivor in a town, don't stop to talk to him on the street. (Seek cover immediately.)

Final Solution for the Sniper Bandits

Funny, I had the same idea today. Definitely worth looking into, I'd like a nice sniper rifle, and if I can get it off a dead server-hopping bitch I'll name it Satisfaction. Oh, and if you are Devildog from the Survive videos, I love your work man. I use Alamo all the time.
  18. Not to shabby, and the fireplace would still have a place in game since it can warm you up. Make the gas stove a decent but sparse spawn in homes and supermarkets. As for lighters, people will start wondering where all the cigs are.

    Blood Bag Idea

I'm just glad we're all the same blood type.

[Suggestion] new ways to fix broken legs

As much as I like the idea, I'd suggest that creating a splint be something that has to be done by another player, similar to a blood transfusion. While its possible to do it yourself IRL, I think it would help by adding yet another reason to need to work together. Perhaps there could be 2 types of splints: 1) self made requires Wood Pile and limits the player to slow walk and slow crawl. (No crouching or running) 2) administered by another player, requires wood pile and painkillers and bandage, and allows all movement but running/crouch run.
  21. +1 broadcast. Its amazing the culture this game has engendered, now it has it's own media! Definitely would like a view of the elektro/cherno sniper positions. Also, you might provide some directions for new people washing up on the beach to the smaller cities that aren't as popular as pk sites but still good for gearing up. You might also dirty up the broadcast, get a busted up suit for the anchor and lose the cgi, cause I'm wondering where you got the computer and the power for it, and how many bean cans I can trade it for when I loot your body.

    "Casual" Mode Suggestion

"Casual Mode" would be a private server where you know everyone who's on, and keep out the bandits. Besides, you can keep your gear when you die. It's called remember where you die, and if it's worth it, run back. If it was a bandit that killed you, you might even luck out that they didn't take all your gear and didn't waste time hiding the body.

    PvP doesn't exist

I hate Pk'ers. I hate people trying to turn this into a deathmatch. I hate losing hours of work to a Bandit with better gear. All that to say I hope they NEVER remove pvp from this game. The point of this game is the atmosphere, the simulation of what it would be like to (try and) live through a zombie apocalypse. I was paranoid already running in to pillage a village, only to have to face the fact that the tree line is well over 100m away and I could be halfway to the treeline only to see a small spark and then wham YOU ARE DEAD. Without pvp, I'd have no reason to celebrate when I did make it back into the tree line, giggling like Gollum over my hard-won box of matches.

THIS GAME IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR NOOBS

If this game wasn't as hard, as brutal, and as unforgiving as it is, I wouldn't have felt as amazed and as celebratory when I hit day one. I spent the next 8 hours getting my ass handed to me by overwhelming hordes while showing a friend the ropes. When I stood proudly atop a mound of dead zombies with 2 empty weapons, I had about 2 seconds of pride before an AKM round slammed into me. My stupid mistake had been using voice chat to say what town I was in, and a couple of bandits took the time to come kill me. At least they wasted 6 rounds on my friend and I. There is only one thing in this game that will kill you: making a dumb-ass mistake. It's gonna happen, and your score is how long you can go without making a fatal one. After my first day 1 life, I died rapid-fire to stupid mistakes until I finally got a character past the 4 hour mark. I was running through a forest laughing like a madman and clutching my precious matches. I sprinted out of town into the woods paranoid as fuck that I'd hear a CRACK! and then see "You are Dead." Gonna cook me some cow i killed with a hatchet, but first I had to log out to lower my paranoia to a less debilitating level.
