Because when this happens, the game gets dumbed down to be played with thumbs and forefingers, destroys immersion, reduces scale. I don't want to play console games on my PC. Why would I play Day Z at half the resoultion I do now, with auto-aim and a map 1/4 the size it is now? So I can sit on my couch and eat cheetos at the same time? Fuck. That. That's what Mario Kart or Gears I can't believe its not Railroad is for. Which publisher would you trust to distribute Day Z on consoles? EA? Activision? Ubisoft? I'm sure one if not all of those are already working on a console game based off Day Z, which will just end up being Left 4 Ded 3 with more beans. Also, Rocket has said he wants Day Z to have an active Mod community to improve and expand the game. Nix that on any console. Console games are meant to be quickly cycled content. I.e. they want you buying more games faster, not finding one you love, generating your own content for it (and GASP not paying for new content--you damn commie). Consoles have their place. Use them for what they are good at and realize that if you want the best that gaming has to offer, you'll need both a console AND a PC. But the truth is that while someone with Down's Syndrome can still be a contributing member of society and live a good and full life, you don't hire them to design the next Mars mission.

They for damn sure wouldn't be playing the same game. "Really, you're longest life is 2 months? My character has been alive for 2 years, 14 days! He has a fully automatic AS50 with built in NVG-thermal range finders and auto aim!" "What server do you play on?" "Xbox live!" "I'm so happy for you. I once crawled 2 klicks to a hospital getting 20 zombie kills with a hatchet and broken legs." "Dude, why didn't you just pop a flare and call for medivac?" "Because I was playing Day Z. WTF are you playing?"

I do agree that death needs to be harsher and there needs to be some kind of mechanic to reduce the "Oh I died, now I have an hour run to my tent" or "Man I'm glad my clan is big enough to have a vehicle and will come get me" mentality. The intent of the sim is that you are on the beach. You did not 'respawn' That last character you played saw this: YOU ARE DEAD. Not, YOU ARE "INCONVIENCED". This is supposed to be a simulated apocalypse survival, not a military sim with melee npc's Server death seems to be the best idea, but I don't think even a 12 hour ban is needed, you could do 2-4 hours and have the same effect. Life will become that much more precious when you log on with your friends for an evening of Day Z with the knowledge that if you die, your gametime for the night ends early. Time is precious, especially leisure time, and this is supposed to be more of an anti-game/sim than a game. I know some people will hate this idea 'arbitrairily' dictating their time in game , but it will make the intensity of the sim that much more palpable, and its that intensity that most of us fell in love with in the first place. Cons? Well you'll see a temporary uptick in general asshattery with PK'ers* sniping the towns until clans start policing those areas, and something would really have to be done to nix hacking before this was implemented. Also, for people really dedicated to the game it won't really stop the respawn/regear in minutes, as simply setting up shop in 2 or more servers will allow you to continue to operate like this. *I differentiate between bandits (who will kill you for loot) and PK'ers who kill you for no in-sim reason.

~ setdiscussion.mode pcelitism=1 Console gamers don't deserve games like Day Z. Rocket already said the game required balls, and no shooter on a console can handle that.* ~ setdiscussion.mode pcelitism=0 *Sure there are plenty of amazing games on a console, but lets face it, if we left the world to the xbox live community, the zombies would evolve civilization before we did.

I say no. I don't even think we should start with a backpack. It's not hard to find your starting equipment, but it is exciting. I would not be opposed to a punch/shove attack though, I think that would be very helpful. And you can never have enough melee weapons. I'd love to have a chainsaw for iconic purposes, even if its one of the worst ideas for a weapon ever. (Loud, needs gas, melee, jams often)

No Respawn button now? /sigh
Ampoliros replied to A Bush killed me's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Perhaps this will increase the sense of community. You might start finding more friendly players considering they have to walk back north. Seems a fair death penalty, since there are so many complaints against it. IDK if people complain about the time it takes. Day Z is not a game you pick up and play for 15 mins. Its an anti-game and an experience of immersion. (Yes please tell me how I'm wrong again.) -
Spend 5 mins looking at the map for the uber secret bestest omg u guys no 1 wud evar luuk ther spot. That's where it is. Hint: The In game map is better.

How do you get your gear?
Ampoliros replied to BanditoTheBandit's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I group with lucky people, you know the kind, oh look a clearing, we have a 30% chance its empty, a 30% chance it has 1 (or more!) chopper crashes, and a 30% chance its a badly hidden tent city/vehicle containing all that hard work someone did and left for us to loot. We've learned not to take vehicles though, they are too easy to kill with all of us in it. Yet to see a tent city killed by a chopper crash spawn, but I'll screenshot it if I do. -
No Respawn button now? /sigh
Ampoliros replied to A Bush killed me's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Having lost a 12* day character to accidentally clicking respawn, I welcome this change wholeheartedly. I'm sorry if this makes the game too hard for some people. I already dislike how easy it is to regroup/regear. If your friends have an vehicle then make an adventure out of bringing it south to pick up respawns. Otherwise you'll have a long time to 'discuss' why the game should be easier while you hike 6k to meet your friends. Yes, I have abused respawn to get a perferred spawn, but I know the map well enough to get from the coast to several northern rendezvous without a compass in the dark. No one should have an excuse for not being able to find Berezino. Heck if you know the server time you can find north with your shadow (not at night though obviously). *not much to some I know but its my personal best. Now I assume Hacker death once a night so my best is 2 days. EDIT: I also do a LOT of running since I die a LOT because I suck at pvp. I still like this decision. -

PS: Is it sad I knew exactly where that spot is on the map from the screenshot? There isn't a place on the map that hasn't been used for someone's "uber secret stash".

Yeah, somehow being able to save gear over like this and stockpile it defeats the purpose of permadeath but I dont see much of a solution other than other players being able to loot and smash everything they come upon. It's not like regearing after death is hard anyway. I never fix cars, I find them and steal them. They almost always have awesome gear in them. And Our group makes it a point to track down and kill anyone we see using one. Even if we can't steal the vehicle, we can deny it to another player.

US38 NW airfield carpetbombed then possibly nuked
Ampoliros posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Was playing at NW airfield when the entire area began exploding either from bombs or artillery. Was a wide enough spread to cover the entire runway. Players with me logged out, I didn't log out but didn't die or take damage. 10 seconds later I saw a bright flash and immediately logged out. happened about 12:40 CST. -
US5 invisible shooter/possibleitemspawn/locked server
Ampoliros posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
5 of us logged onto US5 and quickly came under fire NW of Berezino. One of us was killed immediately, then while we spread out we spotted the rifle discharge coming out of thin air from bushes within the same wooded area. 2 more were killed. The last 2 (Myself and 1 other) ran furthur and then logged off the server, assuming it was a hacker. After some discussion, we thought it might have been a ghillie suit guy in the confusion. The other player who lived tried to log back in and was kicked by admin. I logged back in about 5 mins later and found only one body, surrounded by massive amounts of bear traps (6-12). Don't know if they were bugged or not, but they didn't hurt me when they went off. I recovered some gear and logged off. After another couple of minutes discussion, I tried to logback in and search for the other bodies but the server was password locked. -
I think this definitly needs to be in the final build but I don't think it needs to be a priority. Basic weapons could probably be maintained by a toolbox, but military grade weapons would need oil and maintence. High-end military gear (NVG's Thermal Scopes, GPS) should have a battery life that can't be maintained. (Unless final builds allow for the construction of generators.) What's the worst thing that can happen to you when you're surrounded by aggro'd zombies and low on ammo. A gun jam.

US 853 hacked chopper and weapons/insta-death
Ampoliros posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Where: US 853 When 1:30am- 1:50am CST Logged in after being kicked for "Battleye ping 453" After about 4-6 seconds in game, both myself and one other clan member were knocked unconsious and killed from an unknown source. No weapon sound was heard, and we were both moving at a run through medium woods. This tied to both deaths happening at the same exact moment led us to believe that we had been hacked and not sniped/shot. Another clan member nearby was not killed and reported seeing a chopper approach (Green Huey). Upon respawn I was near Balota, and the other clan member was at Elektro and confirmed the chopper sighting. As it flew over he was insta-killed again from an unknown source. -
An all-round solution to alt-F4 & server hopping
Ampoliros replied to chaR's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I wonder if the current code/build would allow for Alt-F4 to be linked with killing your character/respawn, making its only value to deny another player a kill. Hit alt f4, respawn at beach. -
Sigh, well there goes my suggestion to making the game more friendly... Anyone have some cookiees?

Pvp, PvE, DM and so forth...........
Ampoliros replied to Michaelvoodoo25's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The game doesn't need PvE. It needs to be more unfriendly to griefers. If you killed me for my loot, or I was getting to close to your camp, or we suprise each other in a supermarket and you blow my brains out, no problem. If you play this mod just to kill people from 800+m with a sniper rifle and no intention to loot me then Alt-f4 out when I sneak up on you after respawning, then I will seek other solutions to ending your fun. IMHO, remove military-grade weapons or introduce some kind of maintenance on them. Drastically reduce the amount of military grade ammo. Then again, it is fucking hilarious when some idiot opens up on you with a .50 cal and wastes 3 clips and doesn't get a single hit. Spawn Zombies on roofs and in the woods, and basically anyplace their mealtickets (Us) frequent. -
Need Zombies in the woods. Heck, since you are doing a heat map, spawn zombies along those lanes, wherever they are. More zombies, and spread them out. Make them more likely to investigate things from farther off, and they keep moving in that direction until something aggros them or their investigation is set off again. Somewhat better pathing indoors, better use of doors and ladders. No one should be safe on a roof, even if the building isn't enterable doesn't mean its empty of zeds. I.e. places where people like to camp are going to attract infected. Why? Zombies already track us by smell, sight and sound and they want to eat us. They aren't lazy they are infected. Even the dumbest animal doesn't sit in one place hoping a meal comes by when they know a meal can be found at X. Towns are more likely to have people in them, but there is a lot of noise coming from those hills and roofs, there is a lot of adreneline and human smell coming from the woods. Give them better range detection, if they hear a far off shot, they will be more likely to aggro from further away if the noise continues. Buff Zombie aggro/investigation for a short period after making a kill, although have a few stop to eat a fresh kill. Have investigation/aggro'd zombies pass this status on to zombies near them. If one starts grunting like it detects something, the others will know something set it off. Also, consider making some zeds silent, only creating noise from movement and more that pretend to be dead then aggro. As it is, I think the Zombie detection is about 80% correct, with a few bugs involving aggroing a zombie 200m away with no reason (sight/sound/smell). While most of my zombie deaths come from one Mike Tyson Zombie ko'ing me in one hit, I also have to say most of my zombie deaths came from overconfidence in my escape skills. I like that one lucky/dumb shot can mean a return to the Beach Party.
-
I base my "score" in this game on how long and how well I survive. My longest lived character survived 12 days with no murders and about 215 zombie kills, only to die to the Respawn Button being right next to the video options button.
-
If anything, Infected should have better climbing skills. The Roof should be safe, but only for a while. My entire purpose for this is to make the roof no longer safe as a camping area for griefers.

Snipers ........its kinda like this.

Let new survivors roam the map.
Ampoliros replied to mccullxch's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Surviors/Bandits kill you for a survival reason (gear/safety). Pk'ers kill you for the lawlz. You'll only find them in the high traffic areas. Avoid them until you know what you are doing. Then avoid them until you have a group. Then shoot at them and watch them alt-f4. Change position and watch where you were. You'll see them log back in trying to ghost-flank you. Shoot at them and watch them alt-f4. Repeat until they get bored and find a new server. ??? Survive. -
And I spent all that time in the armory learning to land on hospitals and towers...
