Zombies would be coming from all directions after hearing that.

Australian Private Hive - 'Woodo and friends'. (Password) All welcome!
Esoteric replied to Woodo's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Are bandits welcome? I don't mean the sit at elektro hill sniping unarmed players bandits and I don't mean the bandits who say 'hi guis im friendly and need morphine pls help' then shoot you in the face type. No, a real bandit takes risks against foes who outman and outgun them! I'm not saying I KOS everyone instantly, but I like to have a little fun against people rather than zombies sometimes. I believe true bandits add a certain spice to the game :D If I can join, could you PM me the password? if not, no worries. -
@ first two posts, if your perfect bandit moment is bashing others on forums, well done! I could have done much better, however considering I had very little resources (both time and weaponry) I did just fine! To me, banditry isn't about killing a random player in cherno to take their beans and lee enfield. Needs some risk involved. @OhShitSarge Nice kills! Killing a player while being pressured from chasing zombies takes skill!

This is a story of a moment which was all too perfect, if I had a sniper rifle or something at the time, it may have been a bit more successful, none the less, I had a great time. So! After recently returning to this game I hopped on to a server, looted around a bit till I got a Lee Enfield not long after picking it up I spotted a player running straight towards me, I noticed he was armed so I took aim and fired, 3 shots later he was down, quickly picked up his binoculars and AKM (300m zeroed) and took off. Around thirty uneventful minutes later I watched the side chat of this server, two players were discussing trading vehicles.. I kept a close eye on the conversation, overtime I had a rough guess at where they might make the trade so I began my run towards the north easterly side of the map. There was only 6 players online in the server, team of two, team of three and myself. I hadn't said a word so they must have felt comfortable with saying the trade location. 'Meet at the gas station on the road heading north out of Polana'. The race was on, I was running blind without a map, but in the general direction I figured was Polana. I was racing against a tractor+an ATV that were starting from the north west. Around 10 minutes later, I found a sign by a road which said something in Russian, for whatever reason I thought it said Polana, I was right! I ran within the treeline of the road until the trees stopped suddenly into a bare field. Zombies were right in front of me, it scared the hell out of me IRL but I slowly crept back in the treeline when I noticed that the zombies were from a gas station. I checked my compass and the road was heading north/south. This is it! I followed the tree line west and then south so I could get a perfect view of the road, granted, it was 1000m~ away. I could see the bus and the tractor facing each other. The player with the tractor was very nervous about the trade as the players with the bus took a long time choosing a location to trade (setting up overwatch for sure!), although they explained it got a flat tyre. I carefully scanned the edge of the treeline I was in, no one watching from here. I watched as the player with the tractor try and fix the buses tyre. When I was finished looking through my binoculars I pulled out my AKM and began taking pop shots, instantly the reaction from the tractorman popped up on sidechat 'WTF DONT SHOOT!' I could see a small figurine running around the bus as I continued to spray into the bus. After I expended around 20 bullets I began running for a new position, all the while laughing irl. I spotted a small shrub/tree line heading east back towards the road, I went prone and began to make my slow way forward when I saw on the chat 'wth cant believe u took this long to double cross me', as I finished reading that I watched a tractor flying down the road towards Polana. That was the end of that trade. I continued to make my way slowly down towards the bus, after 15 long minutes I got within good view of the bus as I lay inside a bush near the road. I waited.. and waited.. getting pretty tired irl.. no one had come to the bus.. so I made my move, I ran to the bus noticed I couldn't check its gear (later found out you had to be a passenger), disapponted, I ran on the side of the bus and shot out every tyre when suddenly other shots rang past me, I had no idea where, but I knew I had been beaten. Patience was key! I died, not disappointed whatsoever as I couldn't have imagined a better way to go. Thanks to the players in this scenario! TL;DR: I had fun! Do you have a perfect bandit moment?!

any idea if the Day Z standalone will be using the same sort of system as ARMA2
-
It is bad, however I've tried other wireless providers and their speeds are terrible, not to mention they're all expensive atm as its still rather new tech. Wired plans aren't available for my location atm.
-
Thanks, I might have to try that. I have noticed many many US servers, so I'm sure a few go under the radar from hackers.

Hello! I'm just wondering if theres any other Day Z players out there that don't get much internet quota per month, for instance.. 15gb? I use wireless usb internet, so the plans are expensive, yet only give 15gb per month at $110, so due to that I can't play Day Z anywhere near as much as I'd like to, when I first got them game, I played for as long as I'd nomally play for per week, ended up running out of quota half way through the month by going 1gb p/day playing Day Z (not including download). So, I'm curious if theres any way to reduce how much bandwidth you guys use when playing, for instance, does lower view distance do anything to help render less important things therefore saves bandwidth? Any other tips you guys can think of? Also note, when my internet is out of quota my speed is slowed, the game is unplayable at that speed. Thanks!

Anyone have any Australian suggestions for servers that kick people/haven't had as many hackers? Most of my friends are simply refusing to play due to not wanting to die over and over to hackers, they'd rather wait for a standalone game. I'm starting to feel the same way.

I'm not asking how you play this game as in, how do you move.. more like.. How do you play this game without being killed by hackers? I don't read many complaint threads on the forums however every time I've been on a server since returning to this game yesterday, I've met a hacker. *This isn't a complaint thread, more just asking how are you guys playing?! *There is a TL;DR at the bottom. Yesterday I went online, made my way to my old base camp to find everything is still there, awesome. I grab a weapon and just do a bit of overwatch on the small town near basecamp, I'm hidden in a tree as I do this, while watching a dvd I hear the crunch of leaves right by me then 'hey you need any help?' I was completely surprised by this, I truely doubt that anyone of the twelve people online could possibly have walked out from the right patch of forest and seen me prone there. I didn't even want to turn around because I instantly knew it was a hacker, I couldn't think of a reason why they would want to help me so I figured it was just to play with the mouse before killing it (trust no one, you know?). I logged off and took a break for a couple hours. I then signed on again, went to check the tents to see if they had been searched, nope nothing. As I was going through a tent, looking for a weapon of choice I found that my AS50 that I was wielding earlier had turned into an AS50 TWS.. odd.. then I realised I had -everything-, every single slot filled in my gear sheet, ghillie suit, nvgs, rangefinders, etc etc. I turned around and got another surprise for that night, a black SUV right behind me with someone sitting in it.. I did the old QE dance to show I mean't no harm, although I don't think he'd of cared if I tried to shoot. So.. I hopped in the passenger side. Zooom, we teleport to some random city that I can't think of the name, he jumps out of the SUV and runs off, I'm left dumbfounding while still loading my surroundings after having been teleported. I figure theres no point waiting around for him, he can just teleport after me, so I hopped in the drivers seat and found somewhere safe to park out of view from the city and once again, signed off. The next night I signed on again, different server, one with more players, I figured, if there was a hacker on the server, people would log off it.. right? Well, I look for a place that I have view of the city, note, it is nighttime, pitch black. Luckily I have my 'hacked' NVGs, so I sit right next to a stone wall with a bush at my side, I lay prone and watch the city ahead. Now, I swapped my AS50 TWS for a normal AS50, seemed more familiar, wish I hadn't now. Anyways, about 30minutes after I started my watch.. I got shot and died. The end. TL;DR How do you play without constantly having hackers ruin your fun? Am I just unlucky with what servers I choose or.. what? Thanks.

I can't see helping people to be any fun, I could leave a tent in the middle of cherno with items in it.. it would help people more than me going around and doing it, still no fun though lol. Also about the M107, I already said I don't go out specifically looking to pvp and it's useless for zombies. If your bandit group were on my server and I found you guys, I can imagine it would be fun, but I'd rather just play Call of Duty.
-
Yeah, likewise. My friends and I have several tents scattered around the map (on different servers too) full of weapons/tools etc, it's not like I've lost anything when I die. Recently went to a heli crash site, found an FN FAL, M107 and a PDW, I just took the PDW since we have 3-4 FN FALS at base and the M107 is useless imo (any sniper will get the job done). So gear is just.. meh why bother. I do however have fun when I decide to walk along the edge of the map looking for tent cities/vehicles, It's a thrill to get the vehicle back without knowing whatsoever where I am. Good stories are made then.. but now we have a few vehicles we don't really require any more.

I haven't yet been shot at whilst driving, I think you should just be smarter about when you drive. Think about this.. Do you need to drive? Can't you walk to where you're going? Can you go when it's night time instead? If none of the above.. Take a different route (even off road through a forest if you need to) and park further away in a tree line, and preferably bring a friend incase - hits the fan. Remember: Vehicles are by far the most valuable item in Day Z, take the extra 30 minutes of being cautious if it means you'll save the vehicle.

The average life expectancy has been rising a lot lately, from when I first joined of about 30mins to now 50mins. Could this be due to players getting better? Exploits being abused? Bugs being fixed? Game getting easier? I'm curious as to what everyone think the life expectancy will be when the game has been out for a much longer time. When I die, it's generally because I have no morphine at the time and get a broken bone, I just suicide. Then when I respawn, I play recklessly and attempt to get a few items from major cities before heading north again, however when I'm actually out, I survive for a couple days usually, the life I'm currently on is at day 2, I think I might actually try and really survive this time. Seems quite easy, I go into a market in an underpopulated city, take food/drinks, kill a few zombies and get out. What now? I have everything I need, no real interest in pvp, if I plan on surviving I think I'll keep my distance from the zombies(Wouldn't you?), I don't find going into the city a challenge or even remotely dangerous, perhaps fast zombies indoors might change this.. But one trip to the market and I'm good for ages. In conclusion, I'm curious as to whats -your- estimated average life time and your personal best? Also, if you're one of those people that enjoy seeing how long you survive for, what do you do? is the game still fun for you? For those that think TL;DR: Get off the forums, lol.

I don't think dissing another game makes you cool, WoW is a significantly better game than Day Z, you just happen to not like it. Don't be a child. As for the Op: I have had times when I wished there was an autorun, but I don't mind it how it is. There's really no spot on the map that I -need- to go to. Weapons spawn at many other places than the NWAF, why not visit one thats closer. Why do you need a higher end weapon? Just for pvp? To kill zombies? It's most likely pvp, in that case you would want your long run from the coast to NWAF and then back to the coast  to be easier.
