i see your point, you say that engine cant handle melle. but i could handle this if changes to engine were made, wich is almost impossible in current state of the game. not complete workaround already made - melee its a gun that shoots 1 bullet at melee range. its would be fine if accuracy penalty for melee were removed, wich seems cant be done atm. but should be done if game become standalone or part of arma3(not sure about this part though). and for offtopic question you can read first page

Unreal Engine was built for FPS, so its not possible to create games with other genre on this engine. recognize the style? i`ve already explained about melee in current state of project, and the most possible workaround. if you cant read i cant help you.

and that is your only argument? its not the engine, its ArmA2 wasnt built for melee, wich is kinda retarded for military simulator, because in case of war knife is your best friend. but thats not the point.

and what is bad about when DayZ was inspired by Dead Island? and if you say that in Dead Island zombies arent fast and donsnt run in horde, you probably dint play the game. and i cant remember hordes in DayZ. Left 4 Dead 2 have melee, and since Dead Island came after l4d2, Rocket could have been inspired by it. and noone talking about removing firearms, just make them rare as morphine outside hospitals.

killing from a distance with a loud gun that WILL(not with current state of the mod ofc) attract zombies, good luck pal... the engine can hold melee weapon, but not the mod(at least without some workaround). the only thing that screws with melee is accuracy drop after/in movement. remove it and we got a proper melee weapons. also try to imagine a world without any basic tools(pipes, wrenches, spades etc.) but with shitloads of guns? seems retarded? well that how it is without melee. also why people thae like to fire guns and attract shitloads of zombies care? if this thread will be seen by the DayZ team, i hope thew will make # as a mode with separate database, and gather statistic about wich mode more popular.

zombies in DayZ usuall average humans, driven mad by some sort of virus. how easy for average human to break leg of average human with a punch? i doubt its easy. also, we should mention that character can run for very long time(endlessly to be correct). such abilities mean that previously person that we are palyig had very intense training, and trainings like this make bone strong like steel. and how easy to break steel rod for average human? -

i`ve thought about something like that... currently info about your location and stuff is stored in the hive. why not store your location to the server? basically: logged from server 1 on the NWAF. you logged to server 2 and you spawn on the shore at one of the spawn point for new characters. if you log back to server 1 you spawn at NWAF. -

this may have been discussed before or not but i dont actually care. usual stuff for forums anyway. people say that game should be close to realism and thus providing challenge, but game aspect listed below can be ONLY realistic or challenging. so what should it be? 1 antibiotics. currently they are extremely rare and thus this aspect is challenging. if it was realistic they would be common as painkillers - realism. because this most common thing that you will find in medkits. 2 pain. curable only be painkillers - challenge. IRL pain goes off after some time - realism it would be realistic to have some sort of pain-meter that growths after hit taken, and gradually increase shaking of character. and fade after some time. painkiller resets this meter instantly. 3 barbed wire. its obstacle that can only be walked around or removed with toolbox - challenge. its purpose to slow not to block infantry.you can step on the wire and move forward or remove it carefully, without any special tools. just wrap your hands in tissue(own cloth or bandages) and you should be fine - realism same goes for tank traps - you can just step over them, although you cant remove them without tools 4 bleeding. bleeding, usually, can only be stopped by bandaging yourself. bleeding stop AFTER you bandaged yourself - challenge you can stop bleeding by you own cloth if you dont have bandages but you have risk to catch an infection. or suspend it with your hand untill it will stop naturally. when you start to bandage yourself you suspend bleeding at the BEGINNING of the process - realism. 5 infection can only be cured by antibiotics - challenge. goes off on itself after some time that depends on immune system and environment(temperature and humidity) - realism. also it would realistic and challenging if you have a chance to catch an infection with random chance, that higher at night and under rain, not because of temperature drops.

agree with use of whiskey bottles. for soda and drinking system a have a couple ideas(i hope OP doesnt mind :) ) 1 allow to drink from water sources without stupid bottle(its already been said, but still) 2 split thirst meter in 2: thirst meter and water meter. when you become to thirsty your water meter starts draining, and when its depleted you start loosing blood. water refills both of this meters, but soda refills only water meter. thus soda will help you to survive but you still be thirsty and thus have to find normal water. -

lets face it: cigarettes can calm you down(can be a treatment for shock), but you loose blood, and have a higher chance to attract zombies after smoking for some time. and if you smoke a lot you will suffer run speed penalty. do you really want it?
