Don't put melee in. There's something about finding ammo, rationing it, and using common sense as well as situational awareness to avoid zombies. If you can just hack and slash your way through any danger, it doesn't add any element of danger - it just greatly handicaps it.

Combined ops Nr.1 on steam right now!
survivalist replied to nexerius's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm surprised it took this long. It had a solid base of support right from the start. Rocket, I'm raising a heinkein to you from Crete right now. Kudos. -
Will DayZ cost money after Alpha?
survivalist replied to Spirit (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I''m for purchasing a copy of the game. Or to offer a "donation". If it because a monthly pay to play, it won't fly with many people. Remember, Rocket, although you deserve tons of applause for a great mod - if you turn to the Dark side and seek to milk the population for profit, you've done nothing special. -
This is an intelligent step in BI's direction. Not many developers offer much support for particular mods that run under their original platform. Good to see that BI is onboard, more reason to support such a great company who pushes out amazing games, and offers phenomenal support for mods.

Finally, zombies in between towns!
survivalist replied to WildCard (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm on vacation in Crete, and my bros been playing under my account, so I havent played in about two weeks - but if this is true, my kudos for incorporating a popular request. Thank you! -

Lack of blood and blurry vision....

Had post processing disabled for years now. Never even knew this was a consequence to blood loss. -
I have great respect and apreciation to anyone who play the game hows its meant to...
survivalist replied to daedrick's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There is no "way" meant for this game to be played. It's a sandbox concept. You play it by utilizing your own creativity, and doing anything you desire within the permitted game mechanics. Everything you listed is the manner by which you confine your own gameplay, and shouldn't be the standard for another. Let him create his own. -
WTF...DC saves are allowed..
survivalist replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think this kind of prevention needs to be hardcoded into the game. What if the gentleman's wife fell into labour, and he couldn't invest anymore time into the gunfight? Does he get penalized for attending life's issues? It's very likely that this isn't the case, but I'm just demonstrating that people cannot come up with excuses for their behavior. It should either be hard coded into the game, or you need to start practicing your aim to get kill shots right off the bat. -
Yeah, that's what I'd want - All the people I've killed knowing who I am. Worse, I don't think I want to know who YOU are. I might realize that my wife is right, and I'm playing against children.

This wasn't a question for me.

We need a solution to server restarts!
survivalist replied to james2464's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think the server should be restarted more often, so the gimp who parks his vehicle in the corner of the map to use as a storage facility understands the downside of hoarding. -
Melee Weapon/Zombies chase me forever
survivalist replied to animato09's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The coding in the game is limited, and does not take into account Melee. Also, the game shouldn't be modified because you can't avoid, or kill zombies, or figure out how to use your backpack. PS, I hate friendlies. -
The original poster wastes peoples time. Reputation in the negative now. Future posts will be skipped over,.

The Importance of CHKilroy
survivalist replied to HoboWithAGlock's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have no idea who this guy is. I don't spend copious amounts of time watching youtube, or "streams". I found Dayz on the first day the mod was hosted, because I've owned Arma for sometime, and I like to try out every mod I see in the server list. -
A question about infected speeds
survivalist replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just leave zombies the way they are. Their speed is fine, and ideal. Their zigzagging makes them more of a challenge to hit. It's fine, really. The complaints are just another example of people unable to adapt, and requesting the game be modified to suit their inabilities to survive. -
There shouldn't be any pvp-free trading post region!
survivalist posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What's great about this mod, is the minimal ruleset. Teamkilling is non-existant, since the sandbox concept permits a player to make his own decision about who he wants to kill, where, and when. Thus, the pvp cycle permits killing other players without penalty regardless of their faction and affiliation. Which is good. The last thing you want to people constantly complaining about being teamkilled, as it's bound to happen. If you establish a neutral trading zone, that is PVP free, you're setting yourself up for alot of problems. There will be a great deal of people who will not follow this ruleset. Not everyone is going to respect this no shooting zone. Even if it was scripted to not permit shooting in this zone, the ability to fire into the zone from a distance away will still leave people getting shot in the trading zone. Lastly, it's not very realistic or fitting into the scenario. The landscape is dangerous and full of risk. I imagine, in a future apocalypse, there will not be a 'safe zone' for people to waltz into that is free from any possible conflict. If you want to establish a 'trading' zone, it should be done in game, via the tools available in the game. Get a few guys together, secure a town, patrol that town, make that town safe. If players are incapable of doing that on their own initiative, then I do not understand the point of having hard coded mechanics in place to provide that level of protection. Don't do it. The less rules to govern behavior ingame, the less rule-breakers you'll have. -
Spawned items and structures on Chicago 3

It's not. It was perpetuated using third party tools by individuals who have since been identified. It will be remedied. -
Alright I'm just gonna say it - this fog is ridiculous:: PICS
survivalist replied to phisher34's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Similarily one can say server owners can do what they please with their server, I'm sure. If you want to change fog, rent a server. Likewise, someone else can say - this isn't a carebear game, just adapt to what's happening ingame, and deal with it, because all these threads are starting to sound like theres a small segment of players that are either incapable of adapting to the circumstances, or failing to enjoy themselves. -
So you've died, what's your course of action on a new character?
survivalist replied to hhslf's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If I die, and I come back to life. First thing I do is scour the shores for bodies, grab their spare ammo, food, and water canteen, then make my way either to Cherno for gear and supplies, or head North. Once I've acquired the minimum of a knife, and matches, I'm good to survive in the wilderness. I choose a new spot somewhere. Make that my camp, patrol it. Kill anyone within it. Search the surrounding villages for gear, and animal meat. Then, if I'm still alive in two or three days, move to a new spot. -

"This mod is based on a game that has recommended and minimum settings. If you want a mod to cater to those who can't run the game in the first place then who is in the wrong? " Logical reasoning. I, would not mind reverting back to the 1500 it was at initially. I do not know why it was altered, but I deduced it was for the reasons I stated previously. It would be interesting to get the developers reasoning on why the fog was incorporated. If no reason comes forth, and no changes are made, I'll play on all the same regardless. -

survivalist replied to phisher34's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You may be correct in that it is a psuedo limiter. However, prior to the fog, the view distance was universal for everybody. So it didn't matter if you had it set to 500m or 5000m, it would render at 1500m or whatever it was for everyone. It's very likely a similar situation now, since the view distance is server side. It's not rendering anything in detail past what you could see. You might see the outline of a building in a distance in the fog, but that doesn't mean the render has taken into the account the fine details that bog a system down., While I have no evidence or statistical information that would prove it increases performance (it ran for me very well on the highest view distance, so I wouldn't be able to judge), I can adapt to the fog. I fail to see how it specifically "limits" gameplay, however. It permits more unseen movement, makes combat encounters at a closer range, permits flare use without being seen from several kms away, and allows vehicles to travel with more relative safety due to the fact by the time you see them, they're likely already passing you. But if you could demonstrate how it limits gameplay, and put forth a convincing argument, humans can be easily convinced. -

survivalist replied to phisher34's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I dont suffer from this problem, but not everyone has a top of the line computer to run great view distances. Having said that, it would be unfair to force that selection of people to play suffering performance lag just so we can see a quarter of the way across the map. Likewise, it is not fair for those of us with great computers, to suffer visual limitations. However, that visual limitation fits into the scenerio. I can completely get over the limitation because it fits into the environment of a post apocalyptic world. It also prohibits snipers from effectively blockading major routes by camping them from an elevated position, granting everybody the equal opportunity to defend themselves when encountered by another survivor or bandit. You could suppose that we should be given the option for our own view distance. So say, I would keep my view distance at 5000. You, at 7000. The guy who has two kids, and a low paying job, 500m. Then the variations would be too wild, and some people would suffer disadvantages, while others benefiting greatly. At a universal setting playable for almost everyone, I believe it's even ground. What you are disliking is the fog. There is nothing wrong with the game mechanics, or the way the fog interacts with the given environment and scenario. It is my belief that you will continue to play Dayz, and grow accustomed to the fog when you come to grip that the fog element is out of your control, and is incorporated for the benefit of all players, and not just a select few. -

[Legion] Sorting this all out
survivalist replied to D4rkWolf's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I had to sign up just to throw my nonsense into this thread. Who cares about this guild, or clan, or whatever it is? Just stop playing on their server, and don't join their clan. Then they won't have any power over you. When a clan rents a server, they have the right to do whatever they want on it. You also have choices, to play on it and be subjected to their power trips, or to not. Clearly, the leadership of this clan is inexperienced, or desperate for members. I don't know any of their clan members, but I saw Danthegreat post with LEGION tags, so I can tell you truthfully and outright - their recruitment standards are low. I've seen this guy play on other mods, and I'd never join any organization that encourages people of such mental immaturity to represent them. This clan will die out with time, and likely sooner rather than later. It doesnt have a reputation for being talented, or anything positive. It has a reputation for being complete douches to other players on their servers, as well as on their forums - so I'll display no love lost when it declines into oblivion. Organizations that host mods on their server (all youre doing is hosting someone elses work, not yours) tend to feel they are more entitled to abuse other players. Trust me, they don't last long. People who play on their server don't play on their server because it's a LEGION server, they play on the server because it's just another server. There are plenty of options, and you should utilize them. This is somewhat reminiscent of Tonic's WASTELAND mod. The guy was a complete asshole to his playerbase. Abusing them verbally, and in chat. As well as spawning himself various equipment and vehicles and using them in a manner against other players. I assure you, if there was a feasible alternative to his server, he would have lost a substantial number of players with the exception of his close friends who were rewarded for their companionship. I've personally encountered his "right to do whatever he wants on his server" and it did influence me, in that I no longer found it enjoyable to invest my time on his server. I assure you, I'm not the only one influenced by the actions by people who are granted the slightest exertion of power over someone else. The hard truth is, if you're a dick, or the people are representing you are dicks - people remember this. It's a small community, and it only takes one offense to ruin your reputation board-wide. I've never had a problem with legion myself, because I dont play on their servers - but judging by my post, do you see what I refer to by how your reputation carries? It's their money being wasted hosting a server. It was your money you wasted on purchasing the game. They have their rights, and you have yours. I'm sure there are servers who are administered without prejudice as to which clan you belong to, and you have the ability to choose those servers over the ones that have no respect for it's players.
