    Better Bandit skin?

If you read Rocket's comments in the original Bandit skin thread (or the patch announcement thread), you would know why he chose the precise model he did :) No original Arma 2 units support backpacks. While it might be fitting punishment for banditry to be unable to take a backpack, I guess it won't be so popular or realistic :). Only units that support backpacks in vanilla game (the character models have backpack proxies) are ones from Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead and later (BAF and PMC DLCs). Original Arma 2 models don't. The unit you show is either CHDKz or NAPA faction riflemen from original Arma 2 campaign Harvest Red. The bandit model Rocket chose is from Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead KSK units (right, German special forces), just for the exact reason of finding a reasonably bandit-like character from A2OA - most Guerrila faction characters from A2OA are Takistani militias with oriental clothing and Pakul (Muj') hats... /edit: Ninja'ed by Grunt :)

    New website design

Acelondoner, wrong thread. Please post your remarks about site loading times in the appropriate thread (it exists), not here. There is probably a reason this thread is called "New website design" and not "General discussion about website and hosting"

    Sniper rifle scopes and NVGs

Easiest solution? For Rocket to remove old Arma2 weapons with scopes, leave only Arma2 OA weapons with scopes (which are unusable with NVGs on, like in RL). Perhaps leave a few rare scoped night weapons FN FAL AN/PVS-4 and SVD NPSU (which have permanent NV scopes, making them unusable during daylight). It really ruins the play if the old models where you can look into scope with NVGs are still used.

Every game has this topic: Females?

Arma 2, being a military simulator game, doesn't support playable female characters. There are no animations for them in game, for various reasons not really worth discussing here. End of discussion (I guess not :(). And if you think about modding your own female playable character model, well, just do it. Prepare for like half a year to a year of your spare time tinkering in various 3D suites. I assume you already have your own motion capture studio, right...Or you could rent Bohemia's own studio, seriously (for real). For I guess 500$ an hour?

Beta Patch 92612 fix direct chat !!

To answer a question few rounds back: The beta won't affect your retail installation. It installs in a subdirectory, and doesn't overwrite the main files. You can at any time return to retail just by running the normal A2OA exe. Can't help with Steam, no such thing with me :) Also, whenever a new beta comes out, and you want to try it, delete the Beta folder inside Expansion, and install the new beta

    [GUIDE] Configuration Tweaking

More info about the options and config file: .CFG FILE OPTIONS: First, see this link: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/arma2oa.cfg for complete explanation of options configurable by editing the cfg file. Of note are those: ATOC: (Alpha To Coverage antialiasing) - makes distant trees look better (YMMV) by dithering the texture. Some hit on performance. It's a briliant solution though. You can get better performance by turning it off though. Default is ON. ATOC ON: http://s1.directupload.net/file/d/2607/7ad5mepz_png.htm ATOC OFF: http://s1.directupload.net/file/d/2607/qpnluwdg_png.htm (credit to Brainbug) FXAA/SMAA: This differs depending on if you use 1.60 retail patch or 1.61 beta patches. Basically both are post-processing antialiasing, meaning the AA is done on a finished frame instead of during rendering like normal MSAA. Both are much less computing intensive than MSAA, and you don't have to have MSAA enabled to use it. Quite nice! If you have non-beta 1.60: use FXAA= (see link) and FXAASharp= (dtto) for antialiasing level and sharpening filter. If you have latest beta 1.61(recommended! because of direct chat bug fix etc): use PPAA= and PPAA_Level= (dtto). Difference between FXAA and SMAA: FXAA applies a smart smoothing filter to whole rendered frame (detects textures and some edges not smoothing them) for a reasonable compromise between jagged and blurred, with optional post sharpening. SMAA applies a smarter filter which is a bit of hybrid between traditional AA and post-render FXAA. performance hit (high>low): MSAA > SMAA > FXAA. I prefer SMAA and no MSAA myself. INGAME options: Post processing effects. Things like motion blur, Depth of Field shader, bloom, and SSAO (ambient occlusion). to quote Maruk, BIS CEO: "Disabled: color corrections only Very Low: Disabled + filmGrain + radial blur + dynamic blur Low: Very low + bloom + rotational blur + other scripted post process effects Normal: Low + DOF + lowest SSAO High: Normal + medium SSAO VeryHigh: Normal + highest SSAO Also, disabled - low primarily allows you to customize game appearance, Normal - Very High is heavily affecting performance but SSAO quality is the only difference."

    [GUIDE] Configuration Tweaking

Why not (I think max 3D res is 200% though)? But prepare for a nice slideshow gameplaywise...and better cool that GFX a LOT. In case you haven't understood, doubling 3D resolution makes the whole game render the scene in DOUBLE RESOLUTION, ie 1680x1050 becomes 3360x2100px. Quadruple the area! Not only you would need 4GB ram GFX probably, I am not sure even two 690s in SLI could run it comfortably. So, unless you have a pretty high-end setup, don't mess with the 3D res at all :) For cheaper antialiasing, look up Arma2OA.cfg, latest Arma2OA betas and what they introduced in FXAA and SMAA postprocess antialiasing methods (I can assure you, these work, especially SMAA imho, and offer less performance penalty then normal MSAA enabled through game menu).

We're gunna need a bigger boat...

How about a prominent "DayZ Arma2 mod - Alpha version - work in progress" followed by smaller "if you are new to Arma2, please play the tutorials to get you acquainted with the controls" on the loading screen? :)

    Hacker On EU1

Around 0:05 Zulu time May 9th, FR3 server got a hacker incident as well. Basically somebody spawned AV8B Harriers next to (most/all?) players - one spawned directly below me while on ladder. Needless to say, I just disconnected before more happened, so I don't know what else they did. Guess with the mod's popularity right now it's an attractive target for the kiddies...
