Making DayZ harder (less bandits?)
bibbish replied to Snablas's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Caves would be good. The military or towns people or hunters could have left small loot spawns there. The caves could contain wolves or bears. I remember being a new player. Running through the countryside, happening upon the towns/cities. It would be good if the countryside was treacherous too! -
Over 230 hackers got banned on my server
bibbish replied to RickGrimes45's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You sound really strict. I got ran over by a vehicle which I think may have been hacked in. Then to make matters worse I was teleported into the sky. I'll try your server tonight. Is it free? At some point I'm considering making a contribution to a decent server. -
We'll be there. Playing Alpha and beyond and into Standalone. All you hackers can waste your time and money and get banned.

This new camping tactic that might screw everyone over.
bibbish replied to smore98's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You've just gone public with your tactical advantage. Mind you if you were as invisible as you think you were then it doesn't matter. EVERYBODY GET OUT OF THE WATER! -
If you think you may need to go to the docs for something. Do. None of us are qualified to diagnose you. Only he or she is.

I learn't the difference between 'your' and 'you're' and also 'there', 'they're' and 'their' in primary school. It is just easier to read things which are written properly. If someone can learn to drive a car or a new job role, then relearning grammar shouldn't take long. Though I understand it is harder for some people. OP has a good point though. I appreciate the realism and the challenge, but at the same time DayZ is a game and should be fun. Being able to have a dog, carry vehicle parts or sprint for ages add to that. :)

bibbish replied to gambles's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Thanks for the apology - completely accepted. I had a look at the links you sent me. Generally opinion seemed to be mixed about the skins. I took numbers myself of the first three pages of the first link. The amount of people who thought the new bandit skin looked okay (or good/useful even) was roughly equal to the people who thought it looked crap. For me at least the jury is out. A proper poll would probably shed more light on this. People suggested that the skins need a lot of work. But maybe Rocket is trying to put in a disadvantage for KoS play? In real life rumour might spread. A description of a killer might exist (it would be pretty basic with no internet, TV or newspapers in a post-apocalyptic world) and the way that works in DayZ is that bandits appear with head scarves or masks to make them stick out a little more. This would discourage me from shooting people (a bit) unless I had to (I haven't shot very many people) rather than just killing them and taking their stuff. When SillySil says that the mechanics of the game 'encourage' this he doesn't mean that the game whispers in your ear and says 'go on shoot that innocent person and take their Enfield for the sake of it', he means that if I want to acquire better loot as my primary objective (which I do), there isn't really much which will discourage me from doing that. And for people that don't care that they will end up with a bandit skin, well then nothing stops them. It's a tricky one. Within the game we don't want to really obviously reward or punish types of play. We want there to be consequences for an action you take. Doing this subtly without it feeling forced would require a tremendous amount of work. I'm excited to see how this all ends up, what Rocket comes up with. -

No need to swear at me or tell me to grow a brain. The observations I made still stand. The hero skin and it's weak benefits wouldn't be enough for me to try and get it, and overall me and my buddies will be bandits (when we need to) to make things easier. Out of interest could you send me some links for all the times people have complained about the bandit skin? I thought it looked cool enough. But please, enlighten me with the general consensus. -

Gambles I think you mis-understand what subjective means. I think the bandit skin is reasonably appealing. But on the whole I don't care. You can't generalise and say 'most people' prefer it. Have you done a pole? -

Guys, what SillySil has done here is boil down DayZ to find out exactly what it consists of. I love the game, but the answer is - not much. The game is a team death match over a massive map, which is populated, often by a highish number of players. There is only, really, one real objective, which is to survive. Food and drink are essential. The feeling of logging out with nothing to eat upon log in is a bad one! With survival comes the need for other gear, things are easier when you can navigate, hunt and defend yourself. The map is dangerous. Zombies, other players and some natural hazards can cause broken bones, blood loss and death. I really enjoy the most basic aspect of the game. Surviving and collecting better loot. A better torch, a better primary weapon, items to build a fire. More, bigger, better. I'm not experienced enough to get to the stage where I hunt other players or repair vehicles, though I have stashed items in a tent before. People's imagination here is admirable, but SillySil points out that as the game is an Alpha a lot a features aren't in there yet. All this talk of Sandbox. Maybe DayZ is a sandbox, but I don't think it is a very good example of one. Wiki says in a sandbox 'a player can roam freely through a virtual world and is given considerable freedom in choosing how or when to approach objectives.' In DayZ the main objective is to survive. There aren't many ways to do it. Shop or hunt. Even with player made objectives such as 'repair and fly helicopter' collecting the parts is fairly straight forward. I could raid an enemy camp for parts, I suppose. Say you've nearly finished your heli and some random player comes along. He's heavily armed. He chooses to kill a nearby cow with a heavy weapon or grenade. What if he chooses to damage your heli? By far the best option here is to take him out. Morality wouldn't come into it here for me. DayZ is a GAME which I have invested time in. I want to get airborne... Killing him doesn't really punish me and doesn't make me a bad person in real life. Wiki also says this 'Reviewers have judged the quality of an open world based on whether there are interesting ways for the player to interact with the broader level when they ignore their main objective.' The problem here is that I feel that there are SOME interesting ways to interact. Forming groups, repairing vehicles. But this is subjective. To me grouping up with randoms isn't interesting, nor is repairing a vehicle (because it will get stolen and doesn't lead to anything). DayZ doesn't have lots and lots of things to do. Which leads us back to the main thing there is to do. Survive and get better loot. This is interesting to me. If I kill another player (fairly, I don't know how to and wouldn't cheat) and manage to protect my friend I play with online and loot the guy and get an item I need I feel rewarded. SillySil says there is nothing to stop me doing this YET. I agree totally. It appears Rocket has begun at address morality by making the hero skin available. Why would he do that if co-operation is so beneficial? He wouldn't. Firstly the hero perks. In my opinion, aren't that great. The best I think is the movement speed increase. On such a large map being able to move faster helps. A bit. A vest that can absorb 9mm rounds? Not as useful when I'm normally shot at with a sniper rifle or simply shot in the head. If I have to engage another player I'll use a .45 or rifle. As for the skin itself? Don't care at all. When I played WoW I went for the gear and upgrades which gave me most spell damage. That way I could join raids which required stronger characters. The look of my character was of secondary importance. A bonus if you like. So what do I think? Well I've rambled, but I think that many players, myself included, don't take DayZ as seriously as some of you do. And that's okay. I enjoy the feeling of excitement when I meet a player and wonder what will happen. (The scale affects that). I'm hoping that some fragments of story might be put in and some elements to make the game eerie. But I also see that if you all want this not to be a KoS fest then work will have to be done to discourage it, gameplay mechanics will have to be added (like the hero skin, more of this, but better), telling people that they shouldn't kill on sight and should roleplay won't work. When I'm online with buddies we are still us. We're just playing a cool game. Is it a shame I don't have a more vivid imagination? Perhaps, but that is the way it is for many players. -
At the moment playing Dark Souls on Ps3. Battlefield 3 on Xbox and DayZ on PC. I agree entirely.

Actually I use my headset all the time on my 360. Sometimes with randoms. often with mates.

Don't trust "colin gibz" CoD Player.
bibbish replied to Scraggle426's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No he wasn't. When I play CoD or Battlefield for that matter I don't run about blowing stuff up and shooting into the air. I play with stealth or at least in a tactical fashion. It's the only way I get any kills. If my team mate or friend did that, or was clearly killing team mates I'd ditch him almost immediately. The fact that you put up with it shows you were being a bit stupid... -
I like this idea. +1

Someone suggested using he suggestions forum, so I'm putting this here to see if I get any response :) I think it should be feasible that you would be able to find morphine in other parts of the city/or a town. Some places could be a doctor's house or practice or a clinic. ** Too Long Didn't Read - different types of bone break, more tactics** I went by myself to raid the hospital in Berezino (sp). I had an ALICE pack but it was pretty full of meat. I ended up with more blood bags and morphine than I could carry. Having this stuff spread out just a little would be good. I mean if you can find half decent weapons and massive boxes of machine gun ammo and body bags in a deer stand, the odd med-kit wouldn't be out of the question. I'd love it if the broken bones system was more complex. It would give more tactics to survival. I would like to see. 1. Broken leg. Different to how it is now. Most common from falling off high roofs etc. Can happen from gun-shots. Least common but possible from Zed attacks. A wood pile + bandage could be used to splint it. This would allow for ONLY up-right walking. Morphine used to fix. 2. Broken ribs. Most common from gun-shots. Can happen from Zeds attacks, least common but possible from falling off roofs. Morphine to fix. The would cause the player to be hunched over, reducing max speed to crouch-run. 3. Broken arm. Most common from Zed attacks, can happen falling, least common, but possible from gun-shots. Would cause you to only be able to use small weapons like side arms. Morphine to fix. This is where the tactics come in. It would be possible to have all 3 broken bone types. You've only go one morphine (on you), which do you use it on? Which is affecting you most badly? Or you've got broken ribs, do you save the morphine in case you break your leg? In the case of having a broken arm you'd be forced to use a single hand weapon. If you're in a group do they give you the 1911 as your best chance? Should the hunting knife be a low powered melee weapon as this is all you can effectively use now? (Assuming you don't have a hand gun). If you did have a broken leg, arm and ribs and had managed to splint your leg would you character (limping slowly) also cry out in pain, making a bit of noise? Finally, should having a broken bone be more of a health concern? For each broken bone limit max blood. I.E. 1 bone broken - max blood 11200 2 bones broken - max blood 10400 3 bones broken - max blood 9600 As I understand it having less than 9000 blood is dangerous to vision, being knocked down/out. So overall having morphine as difficult to come by but not always game breaking would be interesting. Let me know your thoughts.

@wolfstriked lol that is funny. @DemonGroover, yeah maybe requiring bandages to help the limb heal over time or something would be good. @Superior, I expect it isn't more complex because of it's alpha stage in development. I would certainly enjoy more to it. Caring a range of improvised medical supplies would be more interesting than just stuffing my backpack full of all the blood bags and morphine I can carry. Any of you guys caught a cold or illness in game? My character was coughing once and lost health/blood very quickly.

Just bumping this. I can't understand why I got no replies? Even from just a few of you to tell me that I am wrong?

Idea for getting people to team up ...
bibbish replied to ATOJAR's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think ATOJAR's idea is reasonable. Now that the chat channels have gone having a way to indicate that you might not be an asshole is a good idea. Some benefit from teaming up (your character is happy so doesn't bleed as bad or whatever) sounds cool to me. I like the GPS idea. I also like the idea that you send a 'friendly' response and you get a reply back. However I have murdered a small number of people (a couple). I don't think I should be blocked from sending a response, but perhaps I send back my 'friendly' and it appears on their screen in yellow or orange (or even red if I've killed a lot) and they get an idea that I have been bad in the past. One problem I find is that people don't feel comfortable talking, or even intimidated or just don't want to, I found this with Xbox Live. This leaves a real lack of ways to interact with other players since the channels are gone. Yes I know that I sound like a COD kiddie or whatever your call it, but I assure you I have a brain. I play old console games (Resi, Parasite Eve 2), new console games (Battlefield 3, Dark Souls), PC stuff (Icewind Dale 2, Plants vs Zombies, Minecraft, DayZ, used to play WoW, tried Diablo 3) and casual Facebook and phone games. People on here clearly have a range of experience and there are certainly some of us who don't want to make it into COD or Left 4 Dead. I for one want this to stay hardcore, but have some nice developed features. -

There is still hope - found a friendly survivor - Story inside!
bibbish replied to mirc00's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have massive problems with people relogging to avoid death. Doesn't that kind of completely ruin the point of the game? Isn't it about survival? Doesn't pulling a shed load of zombies and having no bandages and bleeding out mean you failed on that occasion? Isn't quitting for that moment only to come back in having reset the zombies something a child would think is good? It's like kids playing football penalties and when they miss the goal claiming that one was for 'practice' and that the next one actually counts. That's right, next time I want to survive a zombie attack I'll run into a building and *disappear from reality*. I won't feel like I cheated death at all because relogging takes an awful lot of skill. I only log out at the end of an evening's play or when I'm dead and have had my fill for the time being. I mean what the hell? -
Problem? What problem? It sounds like Blown4Six is having a blast with his 5 team mates. As do I when I play with a friend online. Things are gonna get kind primative when 90% of the population are undead. Rules go out of the window. When I lost my pistol, blood bag, shotgun, ammo and food when a sniper got the 2 of us was I gutted? Hell yeah! Was I angry? No. We were either sloppy (killing lots of zombies and making noise) or unlucky. It is part of the game.
-
You guys are funny. I currently play by myself or with a friend. I'm trying to survive the zombies and if someone is nearby and is armed with a gun I'll probably kill them if I can. It is them or me. If they have a torch or melee weapon I back away... Telling people how to play makes absolutely no sense. Get a friend, perhaps from here, perhaps from real life, maybe from somewhere else, get on Vent/TS/Skype and survive. You expect to enter a post-apocalyptic world with zombies and guys armed with crowbars and guns, while everyone struggles to get hold of the fairly limited resources, not to mention that the build is quite early, with not much to do, and you expect NOT to get shot? :dodgy:
