    Zombie behavior

The Zoms in 28 days later have the Rage virus and want to punch you and tear your eyes out. They do bite. I believe they eventually starve, not sure if they benefit much from eating you and can't remember if they even try to.

    Crafting Suggestions (no discussion)

Input (blade [from a broken knife or lawn mower], rag) Output (Shiv) Tools (none) FailChance 0.05 (the rag might rip during construction). Enchantments = basic melee weapon, can also gut animals but yields less meat than hunting knife ActionType = weapon, tool

    Bulk

Beefcake! This thread is basically asking for variety. It is very interesting. Finding a truck turned over and a crate of beans would be interesting. Taking time to 'remove' beans from the crate (they might be wrapped in plastic, having a knife would be quicker) or of course finding some way to move the crate. Imagine the actual Bean War which would take place if on TS or server chat or even just through recon players learnt that a crate had spawned. The first decision would be - do I, or us two buddies or even the clan risk going to get what is a certain good food supply, considering how 'hot' the area would be... ace
  4. I think we have to assume that by the time us 'survivors' reach Chern battles to fight back the horde have happened and been lost. Perhaps we have washed up here by mistake. As part of the lore I reckon most assault rifles in the arms lockers are gone. A bit like in the Walking Dead where they go to look for all the guns in the police station to find it looted. They find one round for the revolver! I was thinking more about crafting. When broken the knives could yield a 'small blade', 'medium blades' could be found in factories or perhaps on old lawn mowers, perhaps on farms, 'large blades' could be what you get when a machete breaks. Combine one of these with 'rags' or wood and wire to create small/regular/large 'shiv', a basic weapon and a tool for cutting animals. As they are crude they would yield a low amount of meat. I should probably say something about guns though. My friend had an air pistol which was a decommissioned 'Russian service pistol', I guess that was the Makarov! Shame it's gone now. The Bison was difficult to use in game, but I reckon that should be in there because it is cool in its own way. I reckon heli and other vehicles should have the odd gun from other places on them. As if forces from other countries have come to investigate the situation and got overwhelmed. Finding something rare, if with limited ammo would be very very special.

    Bandits and You

It must take the mentality of a child of think that the game would be fun if it was just us vs the zombies, if other players were no threat. Personally I am a survivor who KoS when needed, I protect my buddy and if I'm on a whitelisted server I will protect who I am allied with. I have bloodbagged people, traded, I tried to bandage a guy the other day (he had bandit skin but was unarmed). I would probably have bandit skin too if I survived more fire fights. The tension over how hard it can be to survive, mixing elements from Resi, some RPGs and FPS games all into this is what makes it so great. I hope in SA there are a variety of zombies, maybe some other monsters, maybe some incentive to team up, even if only briefly. But yes, the feeling that someone may snipe you, that this person you are helping may turn on you, well nothing else matches it. The other day my buddy and I were looting a supermarket. I went over to the office/school. Suddenly gunfire that was neither of us. Someone on the roof of the school had foolishly tried to snipe my buddy through the supermarket window with his 1911. My buddy had a LMG which we had got from a heli crash. You can probably tell how it ended... That brief encounter was exhilarating and it only lasted a few seconds. Love the game. Would never play on a no PVP server. Would prefer 1st person, no sights servers. For me go hardcore or go home.
  6. Totally agree about more pistol calibers. Pistols should be a bit more common than some other stuff. But finding enough ammo because it is all different could be really interesting. Also what about if you picked up a 1911 or something and found it is missing the clip and had to manually load a bullet into the chamber like in the movies?! Stuff like that to screw the player! I also think though that players should start with a basic melee weapon with limited durability, this should be random: * snooker cue (or broomstick), long range, breaks easily, can be used for fire wood when fully broken *wooden baseball bat, upgradeable with nails or wire, can be used for fire wood when fully broken *old kitchen knife, short range cutting weapon, can be used to gut animals though it yields less meat, breaks eventually *metal baseball bat, lasts a good while, not upgradeable This means that the crowbar (which could be used to break into things), axe and machete could be considered upgrades which you would be happy to find. In terms of guns, any rifles, shotguns or handguns are welcome. Perhaps it would make people running around with assault rifles and just deathmatching less common or certainly riskier.

    Re-Discovered First Person View

What do you mean by 'capture your surroundings'? Anyway will be back on when I have my new PC. Looking forward to SA, hope for some FP servers. :)
  8. I found that amusing, nice story!
  9. It's all about the excitement. I love it.
  10. This is really interesting. I think to call our reactions 'knee-jerk' is a bit harsh. The more the game is random, special and exciting the better. BF3 was fun, but this is DayZ
  11. Under the current system no. In the standalone or something this was my idea: I think lots of different aircraft could crash, then if you have either a map, GPS or Radio (they'd need to put this in), there is a random chance of learning roughly where it is. In addition to this, say 5 vehicles have crashed, 2 have distress signals and may appear on a map or whatever so the clans can fight over them but the majority, 3 in this case, should not have a distress signal and should just be found naturally. I think that is the best of both worlds. It gives players who suck at finding crash sites a chance to find them, albeit with a high risk of encountering other players, while at the same time leaving things to be discovered. Also, having the crash sites appear randomly after server restart, rather than immediately is a brilliant idea and kudos to whoever mentioned it before. Edit: Thinking about this, if you have a map there is a small chance it will be indicated by a 'splodge' giving a very rough idea of where it is, if you have a GPS it would be a smaller area of 2 or 3 grid squares and if you have a radio a single grid is given, which gives a more precise location, of course the radio would be rare and you would only get the message a couple times, meaning you would have to remember it or write it down. This gives a random treat to 3 of the players on the server (there could be 50+) and it would make a fresh spawn think twice about what direction he was going to take if his new map gave him this info. Of course this would leave 3 or 4 crash sites as random finds, but imagine the excitement of a map/GPS icon blinking or radio suddenly going off, then you go alone, or with a buddy and get some good medical loot, weapons or perhaps even rarer items that they could implement. Is this fair? No, it isn't but DayZ isn't fair and that is what makes it so interesting. Is it fair that on WoW you could defeat a boss and never get the loot you wanted? No, but millions play that. 13. Hi all, Wondering if someone could give me a little help here. I have an old pc which I upgraded the graphics card on. I'm managing to run Arma II and Dayz but I encounter that problem where the game locks up, for, anything from half a second to 5 seconds. I'll post my pc spec below, if anyone has any suggestions of what I can tweak on my pc settings or in game settings which might help that would be great. Vista Home Basic, SP1 Intel Core 2 Quad CPU, 2.4GHz BIOS, Award Software International Inc. F3 09/04/2008 SMBIOS Version 2.4 4GB RAM Total Physical Memory 3.50GB Available Physical Memory 2.44GB Total Virtual Memory 7.22GB Available Virtual Memory 6.14GB HDD Maxtor 6V250F0 ATA Device, 233.76GB GFX, AMD Radeon HD 6670 2GB, Driver from 08/07/2011 I read that if you put your game settings to high the GFX does the work saving your CPU a bit. I did this and was surprised that the game ran quite well and looked good. Of course it still locks up from time to time, and sometimes when I play at night it is very sticky. I'm wondering if my PC doesn't like the lighting effects of a torch (!), chemlight, or flare? I encounter the game locking up on different servers, but I mostly play on Whitelisted UK46 ATM, where I still get the problem. Thanks in advance for any advice! :)
  14. Thanks for all the replies guys. I'll do some tweaking. Considering standalone is coming... eventually, do you think it would be worth upgrading my RAM or a whole new PC? I'm on a budget and can't really tell if this Processor is crap and old or not (a friend sold me the PC for next to nothing to make room for his baby!) What do you mean by a 'ram disk setup' - do you mean where the HDD supplies extra memory or something else? Cheers.
  15. ...it worked and was a good way to end a session on a server which obviously wasn't working properly.
  16. R4ZOR49, awesome, any hint as to when this patch comes? Many thanks, I've enjoyed this game very much.
  17. Why? He was having fun. I'm not a bandit. I shoot players if I have to. But if there were not bandits the game would be really boring. Come on, admit it!

    Dayz Auto Run - [Application]

I have tendinitis in my left wrist. Sometimes in DayZ I run long distance. I'll consider downloading this as it will save me a lot of actual pain. Loads of people asked for it, so thanks.

    "Zombie Logging" What's your take?

Learning how to handle the zombies is one thing, but this is cheating. I don't know why half of the players bother to play DayZ when they want to cheat other players and themselves.
  20. I played COD against a girl once. I lost badly. Also I like your snail.
  21. Isn't 12 a bit young for this game?
  22. I always carry 8 cans of Pepsi. I'd drop them in a second if I found some decent loot!
  23. I play with two mates. They are much better than me, but we share intel.
  24. This is interesting. A bit like Fallout 3.
