    Walkie Talkies.

As for the poll; I answered "other". My reason is below. - Have a walkie talkie as a basic item? No, they should be a part of the loot. Based on the type of radio it can be common (walkie-talkie), moderate (radio) ot rare (militairy radio). - Walkie talkies need a power source Yes, just to make them harder to use and to make sure survivors go into town to find them (eg. supermarkets have a high change of spawning them) - Walkie talkies should have multiple/private channels Multiple channels yes, private channels no. However, the better the radio, the more channels so it's semi-private. - Radio towers should play an important role No, I don't really see how radio towers can help. However, radio beacons at good loot might be nice. Just let it send a signal over all channels (small beep or static) which gets louder when closing in. - Walkie talkies should have some downside to using it / sounds/ give away your position with some gps tracking or w/e If radio's are forced (instead of in-game VOIP) it's already hard enough to find people at the multiple channels. Not to mention to scan channels when entering a town to find other survivors and their locations. Also, by having batteries you need to make sure when and how to use the radio. Especially if a battery only can run a radio for a couple of hours. And by having better radios needing more power (makes sense), it drains power much faster. As for the specs for the different radios: - walkie-talkie: max range: 100-250m channels: 4 power: 8 hours per battery - civilian radio: max range: 1000m channels: 12 power: 4 hours per battery #justmy2cents - militairy radio: max range: 5000m channels: 32 power: 2 hours per battery

    World Building: DayZ Radio

I support radios in DayZ, but a little different; Personally I think that (portable) radios should be used, instead of in-game VOIP and be a part of the loot system. If you manage to find a radio, you can use it to talk to other players with a radio and get random messages with coördinates of crashed helicopters or secret stashes. By implementing multiple types of radios it's easier to get one (eg. walkie-talkie vs militairy radio), which have different ranges (walkie-talkie: 100m, millitairy grade radio: 5km, some others in between). This way communication is more realistic and makes it possible for groups to keep in contact while parted. By using batteries to power them, you still need to be carefull when and how to use the radio... When entering a city it might be wise to scan the channels to listen for survivors who might want to harm you, or while walking in the middle of nowhere you might hear a SOS of a fellow survivor or a radio beacon with some nice loot. Having a radio station doesn't really make sense, unless it's from overseas (or ships far away from the coast). But then you'll need a regular radio which has no further use at all (except for entertainment and some hinting).

How to get rid of "hackers".

Yes, which is enabled by default. However, good hacks can bypass this system and makes it possible to do things you shouldn't be able to. @PyroXfire: releasing some "hack" to the public with some virus would be a nice idea to get rid of the cheaters, but still won't hit the hardcore coders...

Turn off dropping items while swimming :/

^^ This And have you ever tried to swim with a backpack full of canned beans, all your pockets filled with magazines and a huge weapon on your back? Without drowning? If I could choose to drown or loose some of my beans, I prefer loosing my beans... If you're dead you won't need beans anyway.
  5. Same problem here (for both myself and a friend)... We both play ArmA2 and DayZ frequently, although right now we're only able to play DayZ because ArmA2 is crashing every time. The problem: - I can play DayZ online without any problems - I can't play "regular" ArmA2 online (haven't tested ArmA2 offline though) My setup: - I bought ArmA2 + Operation Arrowhead + BAF + PMC from Steam - I use SixUpdater to update several mods and run multiple presets (including DayZ + beta) Things I tried to fix the problem: - updated and checked ArmA2 (and stuff) with Steam - removed and reinstalled DayZ with SixUpdater - removed and reinstalled BattlEye (due beta bug) - tried to run ArmA2, ArmA2:OA and ArmA2:CO with Steam - tried to run ArmA2, ArmA2:OA and ArmA2:CO manually as administrator - might have done other things too, but didn't help either My knowledge on computers is quite high, but this seems to be too much. I'm not sure if it's related to DayZ, but I haven't found any other post/articles about this problem yet without having DayZ. I also play ArmA2 for a couple of years now, and DayZ since the first open alpha and never had any problems before. The problem might be related to the BattlEye problems or the current beta bug (although I run ArmA2 without beta), so hopefully someone has a fix for this.

1.7.1.1 too 1.7.1.2, Sound is gone?

Same problem here... However it seemed that the server was running an older version of DayZ (1.7.1.4, while I used 1.7.1.5). Besides the missing sound and debug monitor, I also noticed that zeds didn't spawn around me or even loot. Eg. I was walking through a town and didn't see any zombies nor did they spawn. Every "known" loot spot was empty too. When I walked towards a small village, I saw another survivor in front of me. The moment he walked near the village I could see the zeds spawn and loot became available. The other survivor died by zeds (I did bury him) and I finished off all the remaining zeds. Although it became a ghost town again, since no zeds respawned...

    Flying a helicopter in DayZ

Rule number one when flying: know how to do an emergency landing! I don't care if you use auto-hover to take-off and land, or it takes 10 minutes to land on a square feet... The only think you MUST know is how to land a chopper safely when it's out of fuel and/or damaged. Eg. yesterday I was playing an ARMA2 domination match with some friends on a public server and was flying a Huey to transport troops from our base to a secure LZ near our objective. When we where near the LZ we got hit by an AA gun which destroyed the tail rotor and all I could hear over the radio was "OMG we're gonna die!". I killed the engine, asked my co-pilot to find a good landing spot (note: a good co-pilot is just as important as a good pilot!) and I flew the damn thing as a plane to the new landing area. It was a bumpy ride, the chopper was damaged beyond repair, but we all stepped out without any injuries and were able to help the troops at the objective. So, if you want to be a chopper pilot; train off-line (in Armory or by using the editor) and try the following things: - fly up to 400 meters, speed up to 200km/h and kill your engines. Now land safely... - do the above at lower speeds (steps of 50km/h) - do the above at lower altitudes (steps of 50m) this will train you how to land a chopper without fuel or engine breakdown. Next; you can use the editor (or a friend on a private online match) to break parts of the chopper, like a main rotor and the tail rotor. And do the same thing without crashing. On youtube you can find a lot of videos which can explain exactly how to do this, and it will not only safe your life but also the lives of the other soldiers in the back.

How to stop people from playing Day Z

    A zombie apocalypse!
  9. Obvious troll is obvious... But he's right you, although no one cares.
  10. Buy a legal version of ARMA 2 CO? But in case you already have: - if you have a steam version: verify you game cache - if you have a retail version: delete and reïnstall If this doesn't work; contact BI, since it's not really DayZ related.

    applying arma beta patch?

Six Updater is a great tool to keep both ARMA II and your mods up-to-date, monitors and detects mod problems and manage different profiles (eg DayZ doesn't accept any other mods, while I44 needs a lot). It also gives you the option to include/exclude the beta patch with a simple checkbox, which will be downloaded, updated and used automaticly. It has one downside though; it's slow and a little hard to use... But it will prevent a lot headaches :D Especially when using multiple mods.
  12. The random flies are because you smell, which makes sense since there are no working showers in Chernarus anymore. ;) The disapearing bodies... they will be removed from the server after some time, so seems normal. You were just too late.

    Unofficial wiki: www.dayzwiki.com

Yes, you need special rights to upload files. We've done this to prevent spamming uploads and to keep it clear who is doing what. Just send SEi or me (Grezvany13) a talk message at the wiki for a request.

    Unofficial wiki: www.dayzwiki.com

We're working 24/7 on it and try to add everything we can find. The biggest problem is that not everything is documented by BI and a lot of stuff is custom stuff of DayZ, so it's hard to get all the facts. If you're missing something, please create an account and add it yourself or contact one of the admins who will help adding it at the right place.

    Friendly Fire Option.

Although I hate the fact that I get killed by friendlies (as in RL friends) by accident; it is realistic that if you can kill one person with a weapon you can kill everyone with it. Personally I hate games where FF can be turned off (or doesn't exists at all), since it will just result in spamming (ammo that is) and teamwork will be totally gone within seconds. The fact that you walk in the LOF of you "friend", or your "friend" has a terrible aim, is just a part of the game. Lag and de-sync issues are another story, however; just play safe.

    Bandit/Survivor Morphing to be removed

In real life, even after a zombie outbreak, people who have a bad name (like bandits) will recieve a bounty on their head. The fact that they can't show themselfs at public places or among non-outlaws is a huge penalty besides the bounty hunters who will do anything to hunt them down and claim the bounty. Since DayZ doesn't have a currency system or other simple ways to pay for a bounty, except by other real players, and we don't want to stick a red flare at a bandits behind so everyone can see him/her at any time, I suggest the following: - a simple radio can be found at regular loot areas (eg with 5% change) - this radio will transmit coordinates about known bandits (hum. -1000 or lower) to anyone with a radio - if you kill a known bandit AND have a radio; you (and only you) will recieve coordinates of a secret stash - this secret stash is public (so everyone can find it, but it's hard), is server bound and will disappear after 2 days - at this stash some special loot can be found (eg militairy grade weapon + ammo) based on the total negative humanity of the killed bandit This solution is simple (except for programming though), will create bounty hunter squads and gives a nice extra to the "good" guys. And instead of giving bandits a penalty, you'll give the survivors a bonus. just my 2 cents though... ;)

    Warped to Debug Area: 'Wilderness'

I had the same problem 2 days ago, although I didn't had a problem with it ;) Date/Time: May 17, around 14:00 (GMT+2) What happened: Respawned after death, spawned at "Wilderness" in a forest Where you were: "Wilderness", which turned out to be far west of Pavlovo What you were doing: respawning Current installed version: dayz: 1.5.7, arma2: 1.62beta (if I'm correct) Server(s): DE2 (not sure) Timeline of events before/after error: * got killed near Cherno * reconnected to the server * spawned at "Wilderness" * found several (seemed idle) players standing around * found other players (active) spawned there too * moved to south and found the sea, therefor knowing my location And like I said, I didn't mind spawning there; since there where like 6 idle and active players with various items. So my backback is now full of usefull items, right after spawning... However, killing them didn't trigger the "Player got Killed" message, nor did the kill counter for survivors or bandits go up, nor did my humanity go up or down. One player I killed, which was active, did send out a global message saying "{his player name} got killed by {my player name}", but again no kill count or humanity change.

    Some ideas!

I agree' date=' and some ideas make no sense or aren't possible due engine limitations. Here is what I think about your ideas and how I think it could be better (or why it doesn't make sense ;)) Wouldn't make sense (story wise), since the woods weren't inhabited. A single zed could be possible (eg. hunters, small group of military) but not big hordes like in cities. Zeds don't have a purpose' date=' except killing non-zeds... They don't need to walk from town to town, but having 2-3 zeds near a crashed car somewhere at the roads would make more sense. I love this idea, although I'm not sure if it's possible by the engine. Would be nice' date=' but useless against zeds, unless you can knock them down. Also, it requires some serious coding or using existing code by other programmers. Yes and no. I like the idea to, for example, light up the hospital at Cherno or the strip at the NW airfield, but I don't think this should be a priority for the devs. Traps' date=' even this simple, seem like a good idea, but again; a lot of coding. Could be exploited by server hopping, although vehicles are already spawned at random so maybe increase the loot or benefits of repairing/owning the vehicle. Might be fun' date=' but not sure if it's helpful. I play DayZ together with some friends and we all have different video settings and can or can't see things that other can't/can. For example; I have everything at LOW, so my distance sucks, although I can easily spot players even when "camouflaged", while one of my friends plays at VERY HIGH and can see anything at any distance but can't spot a player which is 3 feet away... So clothing won't help alot when not everyone plays with the same settings. I totally agree, although we don't want to exclude people without a microphone/headset (for long distance radio). Direct comm doesn't matter if you talk or type, but then it must be fixed first ;) I also suggested something like this as an answer to the high zed count. Zed's should lose interest in you when they can't find you anymore or if it takes too long to get you.

    'Bird Simulator' Spectator mode Bug

The bird spectator mode is an ARMA feature for those who are killed during COOP. The fact that you got it is probably because you died but didn't triggered the "you're killed" action of the DayZ mod. This could be caused by lag or other server issues. Everything else you descibed is normal, so nothing to worry about.

    Build a SafeHouse

  22. My story: "The Stupid Bandit" I was playing during the night when my friends where already disconnected. I was in need of some supplies and was sneaking through Cherno looking for some loot. At some point I entered a multi story building which had some windows and while I checked outside from the second floor I suddenly got shot in the chest. Without hesitation I dropped to the ground, went inside a room and applied first aid. While taking a breath I heard shooting at the first floor although I remained silent, since I figured it might be the same guy who shot me. So I waited till the poor bastard walk by and shot him in the head (since he was a bandit afterall). The guy started to shout at the chat that I was a hacker, since he saw my kill notice. Luckily for me it was someone else who got killed at the same time he shot me. So, he ended up dead, and I ended up with some nice gear ;)

    Thoughts about Zombie Numbers

Although I hate zombies, I think the current amounts are not a problem. The problem is the current spawn problem, where one moment a barn is clear and the next moment it has 20 zombies walking around it (had this last night!) More zombies aren't that bad as long as you, the survivor, still has a change to fight them. So give them less speed, strength or stanima to be able to kill or outrun them when in groups. Of course, lowering the amount will fix it too ;) Even when you carry 100 full mags, when you encounter 20 zeds you're dead... NO, NO and NO! This will only encourage people to respawn over and over again till they get the super equipment they're looking for (especially NVG's). Increasing the spawn rates for these special items overall would be much better. My conclusion: I don't mind being overrun by hordes of zombies, but I do want a chance fighting them. I have no change against bandits already, and can't trust other survivors to team up...
