AS50 or DMR for single weapon loadout?
grezvany13 replied to Obsolescence's topic in New Player Discussion
As most players I have several weapon presets based on how I'm gonna play. This includes; solo/duo/team, day/night, sniping/looting/raiding, and ofcourse the location I'm going. When I'm sniping I always carry an AS50 with 6 10rnd mags (damage is lower then 5rnd, but still one-headshot-kill), some food and water and medical supplies. On a solo or duo trip I also carry a second weapon, usually a M4 or AK with 2 or 3 mags. This is for times we find other players while walking around and can't create a proper sniper position or when we go CQB. The sidearm, always a M1911 or Revolver, is only used for zombies. I actually never carry SD weapons, since ammo is too rare and removes all the fun. With bigger groups (4+ people) it depends on my role; sniper (see loadout above), spotter (L85 TWS), medic (M4/AK + food + medical), scout (SD only), raider (M4/AK + empty backback). And when I'm just messing around I take a shotgun and run around cherno/elektro and shoot everything I see ;) -

You have a home server? So that means it's a private server, and this forum doesn't support (or give support for) private servers. But, since I'm a nice guy; the problem is server side, so you should be able to do something about it.

Looking for dutch people to play with.

Enable namescanning without range
grezvany13 replied to GeneralMelchett's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
nope.avi It's a hardcoded feature in the ArmA2 engine, so you can keep track of squad members while they're far away (to prevent friendly fire). You can disable it in total, but not partially. -
Enable namescanning without range
grezvany13 replied to GeneralMelchett's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Why have it enabled anyways... (either with or without range)... You should either scan with your own eyes without using "cheats" or walk towards the guy and ask for his name... I'm sorry to say, but this feature is even worse then side chat and should be removed completly from DayZ (unless group function is enabled). -
Little question about the weapons

I guess you haven't seen http://db.dayzwiki.com/ yet ;) -
The anti-cheat is not the problem (BattlEye is the best available), the problem right now it the engine. ArmA2 is designed to be open for mods and custom scripts, therfor it's very easy to run custom stuff in DayZ which never can or will be be detected by anti-cheat systems. So please give one reason why another anti-cheat will work... - PunkBuster can by bypassed with 3 lines of code - VAC is most famous for wrong bans, just because of a little mistake at an update - hundreds of other systems which don't work or can't be used with the VR engine...

Before running DayZ you must first run ArmA2: Combined Operations with Steam to set the CD keys. After that you can play DayZ all you want.

The funny thing is, the damage and sound output is based on the ammo, NOT the weapon. However, since you can't put ammo A in weapon B this is fixed. Although some ammo types can be put in multiple weapons, but even then the damage and sound are used by the ammo itself. Technically you could use SD ammo in a non SD weapon and still have quite ammo and vica versa. The same goes for AS50 ammo and M107 ammo. So, for a instant kill on survivors, use AS50 ammo. Otherwise use M107 ammo ;)

State of Decay (another Day z copy cat)
grezvany13 replied to NightmareP69's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Owww... and it's build on CryEngine3, so it's multi platform ;) Or at least it can be. -
This would be a great feature and I'm sure it's technically possible, although I don't think it will be available soon. I would say no to this. Usually your binocs are not available within handreach (?), and as a survivor you don't have a weapon sling so you need to secure your weapon before you can use your binocs. This takes time and concentration, so doing this while running is not possible. Actually, this should be based on the ammo type. However, since DayZ is build on a military simulator, the ammo is created to kill, not to go through the target. And, if I'm correct, it's already possible but since latency affects the game a lot I doubt it will happen a lot. I'll try this tonight when I'm home ;) Right now zeds are attracted to flares (or any form of light). Zeds, or actually "infected", are not vampires or undead so they would behave like humans and therfor not affraid of light in any way. I partially agree on this. Yes, the heli crash sites should have more stuff, but I also think ammo should be rarer then it is now. So, more (rare) stuff, but even less ammo (overall). If it would be possible, a brace + painkillers should be enough to walk again (not running). However, since zeds are quit fast right now, it would mean your dead. I suggest to keep it the way it's now, just to please the CoD kiddies ;)

The current weapons are realistic too ;) But I like the list since those are more "common" weapons for civilians and more suitable for the setting and location of Chernarus in DayZ. Personally I would like to see more hunting rifles and small arms. @Leeu; I'm not sure, but if I shoot one .45 bullet in your arm, you won't die (you will pass-out though). The problem is that the engine behind DayZ doesn't see where you hit someone, except for some basic locations (like head, torso, legs and arms). A headshot is an instant kill, torso requires 2-4 shots and arms and legs even more... If the engine was perfect it would even see if you'd hit the heart or lungs, otherwise it still would require a couple of shots to kill someone... no matter which weapon or caliber.

Apocolypse Currency (ideas for trade items)
grezvany13 replied to ironman Tetsuo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Although there have been thousands of topics about currency, I actually like your idea. The only problem is; you shouldn't call it currency ;) DayZ needs more different items and items should be rarer, so an economy will grow by itself. I don't think stuff like cigarets or other drugs (unless for health or boosts) should be added just so it can be used as a currency, but I'm sure it will be used as one when added. By adding more different types of weapons, and thus ammo, you'll create an economy of weapons and ammo. By adding more vehicles with unique parts (to repair), you'll create an economy of vehicles and parts. By adding more clothing and visuals (hats, glasses, etc), you'll create... I think you'll see where I'm going. -
Other mods that DayZ (standalone) should embed
grezvany13 replied to grezvany13's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Actually, DayZ will have it's own branche of the VR engine. And since the coding is now done on top of the ArmA2 game I don't think they'll be able to recode everything to ArmA3. However, a lot of codes used in ArmA3 will be used in DayZ (and a lot of DayZ code is used in ArmA3 already). So in the end it doesn't matter, which "engine" is used... the features do matter. The mods I named are great mods for ArmA2 which aren't included in DayZ and at this time I don't know if they're added to ArmA3. So therfor I hope they're added or at least likewise features. I've read somewhere that the mod version will become public (including server files), so we can use/reuse them for other mods. The standalone version won't have mod support simply because the VR engine is build for it and therfor enables hacks/cheats/scripts while we don't want them. Like you I would like to see more islands and custom servers (including clan servers), but for some reason one major problem comes to mind; the HIVE can't be connected and therfor removes the best feature of DayZ. I support private servers and I support modding DayZ, but as an "offcial" game this shouldn't be. Just see the fragmentation of ArmA2 servers, I almost have 50 different presets of mods to play on the servers available right now. I don't think this should happen with DayZ. I understand that not everyone is fond of ACE, simply because it makes the game harder, but with a little tweaking is just makes the game better. However, I don't understand why you don't like STMovement... Try use it for a couple of days and then turn it off, you'll see what I mean and you'll wish it was enabled on all servers. A lot of DayZ bugs (or actually ArmA2 bugs) like the "crawl under a tree and break a leg", the "get killed by crawling through a door opening" and the "can't move through the door sideways" will be fixed by using this mod. It doesn't do anything else, it just fixes bugs and will safe you from a lot of #%$@#& moments... -
Would like to try out Arma, now that I bought it - where to start?
grezvany13 replied to Fector's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
About the ACE mod; yes, it's by far the best mod ever made for ArmA2 and should be used by everyone. However, due the chances it makes it also makes the game a lot harder. For example I play ArmA2 with some friends now at our own (home)server and I suggested to use ACE to make it better. Within 2 hours everyone begged me to return to vanilla because it was too hard :D - it adds even more keybinds to remember - you have to watch which gear you carry, otherwise it's too heavy - AI is improved (better and harder) - aim and fire doesn't work, you have to calculate distance, height difference and wind when you fire a weapon - teamwork is required, otherwise you won't make it at all Here's my order of learning ArmA2 to the fullest: 1) complete the SP training missions (learn the game) 2) complete the SP campaigns (experience the game) 3) play around the Armory to use other weapons and vehicles 4) play around with the Editor to master the vehicles (especially choppers!) 5) play some MP domination (learn teamwork) 5a) play some other MP gamemodes 6) download and mess with some mods (extra weapons, vehicles, etc) 7) download and play some COOP missions with friends (armoholic.com is your best friend) 8) install ACE and go back to point 3... If you noticed you really like ArmA2 (which you'll know when you hit point 6), try to find a clan or community so you'll meet players with more experience. They're happy to help you to go further and even teach you some things you've missed by playing "alone". And don't be afraid to go back to the Editor and train how to fly or drive a vehicle, because everybody will like you when they see you know what you're doing and you'll enjoy it even more when you saved the lifes of your teammates. The default COOP missions (as in SP mission) are terrible. I suggest, when you're ready for it, to download some custom COOP mission or even COOP campaigns which are designed for it. They're a bit harder, but much more fun and usually without the bugs. -

grezvany13 replied to Fector's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Before starting with ArmA2 (or DayZ for that matter) I suggest you do the in-game training missions, mess around the Armory and do the campaigns. ArmA2 and ArmA2:OA are the same, except for some small changes in the training missions and of course the campaign. So running CO will give you both at the same. When you feel you know the basics of the game, join a random Domination server (player vs AI) and tell everyone you're new to the game. Usually people will start helping you and tell you what to do, otherwise go to another server. My favorite domination servers are hosted by TAW.net (search for them by hostname); it's a great clan with a lot of good players. As for mods; don't start with them unless you meet someone who can help you with them. Especially the ACE mod can be a pain if you don't know how it works... -
Remove leaderboard from "You Are Dead" screen
grezvany13 replied to SPACE LION's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The solution that I give to my friends is to change the nickname everytime they switch servers or after death when streaming. This will fix a couple of things; - if for some reason your name is visible during the stream, you can't be followed the next time - while switching servers your screen is already blacked out, so it's easy to take some extra time to switch names We also do this when we access our main servers (which have camps) so we can't be followed. -
So.. Hackers. (Not a rage thread)
grezvany13 replied to cur1er's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't even know why people like to ruin the game of others by using hacks/cheats/scripts... Although I can come up with a lot of reasons, I won't name them since it's a "no rage" thread (which I like btw). -
No, don't remove any weapons, just change them. Instead of the high grade military weapons I would like to see more "simple" weapons like hunting rifles. Weapons like the Winchester and Lee Enfield are perfect for the setting in DayZ, so I suggest to add more like these. Also adding simple scopes (max 8x) without additional zeroing will increase the "horror" and survival aspects of DayZ. Stuff like the M4A1 SD, M9 SD and AS50 should be removed, but other (and more) weapons should be added. And to be honest, I like being the sniper to cover my friends entering a high density area, but with an AS50 and L86 TWS it's no fun anymore.

Language Barrier - Etiquette and Assumptions
grezvany13 replied to kander's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I see the problem, although I always assume some speaks either English or the language of the server (eg. Dutch on a Dutch server, German on a German server, etc) Since I'm Dutch I usually play on NL servers (for ping and stabilty) and I found out that the rest of Europe also go to these servers for the same reasons. However those don't always speak Dutch (which is ok) or English, but only talk/type in their native language like it's "normal". Beside Dutch (native language) and English (sufficient) I also speak some German (terrible btw), but that doesn't mean I always speak Dutch just because I don't like other languages... So solutions: - always speak English on public servers (or anywhere on the internet), unless otherwise stated - only play on servers in your own country or countries with the same language - give servers admins the possibility to set server rules like languages and give the the power to kick players who don't follow these rules "English is the language of the internet, so either learn it or stay of the internet" -
I've heard some rumors and seen some mockups for a profile system within the DayZ website where you can track your own statistics and of others. (like avarage survival time, zombies killed, survivors killed, favorite weapon, etc.) I hope, and hopefully the devs will read this, that they'll include a clan/group/friend option to this so we can keep track of each other and invite others to our groups. This way you can simply create a group page (either open/closed, public/private) with some basic information about the group, and by adding generic information at your own profile (timezone, country, languages spoken) you can match other players when you're looking for a group. And with the addition of the squad.xml feature without the ArmA engine, it's possible to make this visible in-game too. But for now, all I want to know: - location: country + state (if needed) - timezone: almost same as country, but useful for easy checking - languages spoken: I hope we all speak english, but native language might be useful too - day/time available: nothing is worse then grouping without able to play with eachother - experience: short description of you experience in DayZ and ArmA2
