Why is everybody so satisfied with ARMA2 Engine?
grezvany13 replied to EndEffeKt's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
First of all, ArmA2 (or any other "game" based on the VR engine) isn't a game; it's a simulator. Since ArmA2 is actually build as a military simulator, with the possiblity to create your own game (missions, addons, scripts, etc.) it's a great tool for making and playing realistic games of warfare. And due the fact that's it's realistic, even with all the core bugs, you're able to do things (or not) which arn't available in any other game. I do agree that the VR engine isn't 100% perfect for DayZ, but it does show it can do anything. The biggest problem DayZ has is that most people come from FPS games, and are therfor used to the default keys (WASD, SPACE, SHIFT) and mechanics (run, jump, shoot). ArmA2 (and DayZ) are simulators and need a lot of keybinds to be able to do all the things you can do in real life too; look around you, use tools, interact with others, etc. Even "old-skool" ArmA2 players can't remember each single key bind or key combination (ok, some can), especially when you play with additional mods like ACE and ACRE. And since most DayZ players never played ArmA2, or even did the training missions, they're lost because they haven't the required basic knowledge of the game. The only solution to this is to create a SP training mission, especially for DayZ, to learn the game mechanics and keybinds. When you understand how this works, you'll never have any problem with DayZ and will understand why some things can't be done. Oh... and next time you rage because you broke a leg while crawling through a door; try this at home: go prone before your door, crawl halfway and turn 360 degrees while staying streched! I sure something will break! -
Vilayer.com is releasing a DayZ Takistan Map
grezvany13 replied to S_poon's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
DayZ on Takinstan? Not sure if I'm gonna like that... DayZ should be played in large areas with enough natural cover, where as Takistan is mostly desert, sand and some trees here and there... The only, non green, map I would like to see with DayZ is Fallujah. A large city surounded by desert, which forces you to stay between the buildings and therfor zeds, otherwise you get sniped since no cover is available. -
Should we remove barbed wire in the next update
grezvany13 replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
No, and I would even suggest to add more types of "fortification" to the game :D -

Your old key is still stored at the registry, so you should remove that first (not done by uninstalling the game).

90% Bandits, 5% Hackers, 5% Survivors?
grezvany13 replied to meat_helmet's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
95% + 5% + 5% = 100% ... seems legit... But now on-topic; Yes, a lot of players started to go KoS but I also notice a lot of teams/squads working together (who obviously don't KoS on eachother). On the otherhand; the last couple of days we've been doing some PVP action against eachother (around 10 ppl). We gear up, make teams, get dropped at a location with a chopper, and start killing eachother :D And afterwards we go back and loot our own bodies. The guys I'm playing with aren't shooting at survivors (unless shooting at us), we just kill eachother... for fun! So we are the other 5%, right? -
Graphic's in the standalone dayZ
grezvany13 replied to Scotty232's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To be honest; I rather have a good game with shitty graphics then some eye-candy on a terrible game... (aka Minecraft-Model ;)) The ArmA3 devs already said the minimum specs are almost the same as ArmA2 (low-grade hardware should be able to run it). But the only thing you have to keep in mind is that DayZ is a lot heavier (CPU wise), so having better graphics won't make it better in any way (no matter which engine). So I'm with Delta Smoke; the same graphics as the current game, but with better animations. -
If everyone had ESP, everyone would be a hacker... (third answer!) Besides the fact that the current engine is very trustful towards client-side scripts (which will be fixed at the standalone), another problem is logging. At this moment the engine doesn't always log custom scripts executed by clients, so a serveradmin can't see who did the hack. I know it seems the other way around (see who did the hack, instead of preventing it), but at least a solution which can be done right now.

Your story almost looks like the guy I killed last night ;) Although it was on another server. But he deserved it; - stole weapons/gear from our camp - shot someone from our group - ALT-F4-ed when I shot him, died anyway when he logged back in (but no kill for me) And you should be thankful; now you can replay the game all over again :D

I guess there are a couple of reasons why less players play DayZ at this time; - holiday is over, school started again... Less time to play... - private servers are created at the same speed as the official servers did, and so do the players move to those servers - hackers and cheaters are no fun, so players hold back until fixed - a lot of players start hacking/cheating and therfor get banned and never return again And to all those who think that players don't come back due cheaters; Have you ever played an online game? Since every game has hackers/cheaters and I've never heard you guys whining about those games...

Killed a friend little guilt but funny
grezvany13 replied to Nwoswat's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I got shot by friends so many times that I even give my gear away so I can't loose them while playing. For some reason I always die first (by friendly fire), and then my friends get killed by zombies... But in the end; I'd rather be killed by a friend then someone sniping me with a hacked weapon. -
@Devs/forum staff. Scripting and the future of Dayz
grezvany13 replied to RaysGoodLiquor's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I love that quote, but when you got shot by a .50 cal your thumb won't help you ;) And the current amount of hacker reports becomes that .50 cal. In the end, we still have to wait till the real fix is released and all they can do now is try to minimize the damage. However, they can do this by applying a tourniquet (to keep the medical terms) but this won't fix anything, it only restricts even more (see the current "anti ALT+F4" bug). My suggestion would be to give better training (handbook?) and equipment (server tools?) to those who run the servers, instead of punishing the players by restrictions. But we all agree that something needs to be done before this great projects dies a painful death. Hopefully Rocket and the devs will read this thread and do something with it. -
@Devs/forum staff. Scripting and the future of Dayz
grezvany13 replied to RaysGoodLiquor's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
First of all, great topic and finally someone who really thought about the problem and giving some ideas for a solution. But, this wouldn't be a forum if we couldn't discus about them, so here are my thought about your ideas. I totally support this! Not only will it clean up the forums (no hundreds of threads without any content), but it also will be a good indication of "how bad" it is. The problem with "hacking billboard" is in my opinion less then the current situation, so this will be a good idea. Yes and no. I agree that server admins should be able to do more against hackers and cheaters, but to prevent admin-abuse this should be indirect. My suggestion would be to create a server admin portal where they can send a ban request (with proof), which will be reviewed by other admins (and some people from the dev team) to determine the final action. This also could help BattlEye to improve their anti-cheat, and help the devs to track the hackers/cheaters so it won't be possible at a later stage. The last thing I would want to see is total freedom for server admins to kick/ban survivors just because they want to, so those should still be kicked of the HIVE when it happens. I wouldn't encourage them, nor support them, but do allow them by providing the server files to the public. This way you can create a private HIVE, or if you want, request access to the public HIVE. As for the anti-cheat measures; these are exactly the same, although since private HIVES are less interesting for hackers you won't find them. And when someone is hacking, they're banned instantly from that HIVE, instead of going though a lot of paperwork. The community ban lists are great and also work on public servers, so there's not a lot of difference between them. Basically the same answer as #3, release the server files to the public and let server admins decide for themselfs. Personally I prefer playing on public HIVE servers, instead of private ones. Simply because I can go to another server without loosing gear, when my main server is down or full. This is more a communication problem; as where we expect something (which has been announced), but isn't coming, nor more information about any expected release data (v1.7.3) The only solution to this would be a good and solid PR team which releases news and information when they can, not when someone likes. No hard feelings for Rocket, but as a programmer you can't predict when your product is ready, especially during development. I'm sure that the standalone version, with proper backup of BI, won't have the problems as we have now with the mod. So all we can do now is hope that Rocket and the devs will do their best to please both us during this alpha and those who buy and play the standalone game. -
Is there a COOP version of this mod?
grezvany13 replied to sostronk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You could try a friendly private server (where everyone is supposed to work together), but I suggest, just like the others, to try Domination. It's basically player vs AI with missions (take over town X, steal vehicle Y, etc). And since it's quite hard to play, it forces you to work as a team. -
At GamesCon 2012 Rocket and the DayZ devs said that the standalone version doesn't have mod support, or at least not at first. I think that DayZ should have support for some mods, but I agree with the devs that it gives an extra opening to hackers/cheaters/scripters and therfor should be closed until a fix is found. However, since some mods are almost required for ArmA2 (and therfor for DayZ), here's a list of mods/features I would like to see in the standalone version. This can be either at the first launch or at a later stage. The list: - ACE2 (realism mod) The ACE2 mod is a widely excepted mod all around the world and usually required by clans and communities. It not only makes the game more realistic, but also adds a lot of great features which will make DayZ even better (and harder). I do know that ACE2 and DayZ aren't compatible at this time and the ACE2 devs have stopped development to prepair for ArmA3, but I think a lot of scripts and features should be added and converted anyway. Some things I would like to see: * weight system; each item has it's own weight and will affect your stanima. So running away from zombies will be a lot harder while carrying a backpack full of weapons and ammo. "those beans don't carry themselfs you know" * improved weapons; a great feature of ACE2 (or actually the weapons it has) is the option to have multiple sights on weapons. This means you have your regalar sight/scope (eg. ACOG scope), but you can switch to a secondairy sight for closer ranges (watch OVER the scope). This will make some weapons way more usefull for different situations like mid-range and close-range. * improved bullet trajectory; ACE2 is most famous for the fact that wind, height difference and even weather have consequences for the rounds you fire. Not only will it make the game more realistic, but also forces players to take time to fire long distance shots. This will partially "fix" the problem with "Cherno snipers", since it becomes a lot harder to do.- STMovement (fix/mod) STMovement by StackTac is simple a bugfix for indoor movement. It changes the way you move around through doors and narrow locations, so you won't get stuck while moving sideways through a door. This mod is almost required for every ArmA2 player and should be added in DayZ since survivors will be in-door a lot. - ACRE (radio mod) Communication in ArmA2 and DayZ is very important, and radios are the only way to communicate over large distances. I therfor suggest to add ACRE (or related mod/feature) to DayZ. I've heard that the devs have already thought about this feature, but I wanted to name it anyway. I'm sure we could find more interesting (gameplay) mods which should be added and I would like to know which ones you would like to see added to DayZ standalone.

DayZ integrated in A2OA v 1.61?
grezvany13 replied to dissection's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Please check the date of the article; May 15, 2012 So, what has changed (since right now we use 1.62 beta). Well, I can't tell you excactly, but since then a lot has changed in ArmA2 itself, including; weapon balance (damage wise), improved netcode (adopted from DayZ mod), improved light effects (adopted from DayZ mod), etc, etc. -
I suggest to watch this video and check out the Fire Range map in the description:

Please note that using hacked weapons isn't bannable, only spawning them in the world is. So even if you could see "Player X killed Player Y with weapon Z" you still have no idea if the player was a hacker or just found the weapon. And I agree with Cats that the killer name should remain hidden, since when you get killed in real life you can't hunt him either ;)
-
If I'm correct there are already female zombies ;) However, there are more female characters in ArmA2 which aren't converted to zeds yet....
-
It's just a regular zed, but the spawnrate is rather low and most likely to spawn near churches. No hacks, no bugs, not rare...

Squad zoekt meer spelers! (Dutch/Nederlands)
grezvany13 replied to Dan2shoot's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
--- translation: I play in a large Dutch multi gaming clan (Double Dutch Clan) where we play regular ArmA2 and Dayz. hehehe... I'm the one who got it closed? The whole thread was dutch, so it certainly wasn't my fault ;) But my offer still stands (see: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/73128-dutch-dayz-community/) PS. Max, if you need dutch moderaters, I'll be happy to help you guys out. -
Private Hive server admin behaviour

It's a private hive, so the DayZ devs/crew can't do anything about it. Solution; don't play at that server anymore... -
Re-Zero'ing A Sniper Rifle Should Include Animation
grezvany13 replied to Obsolescence's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I guess you've never used a sniper scope (with zeroing) in real life, since you can do it with a simple knob which takes less then a second to do. And when you have a rangefinder (or play at a Recruit server) you can see the distance to the target, so no need for "manual zeroing". By default the scope is set to n meters (eg. 300m), which is normal in real life too. So by turning the knob to the left or right it also increases/decreases the zeroing with fixed steps (depends on scope). The current system is as realistic as it can get. And although an animation would be nice (another "movement" which can be spotted), your ideas won't make it more realistic at all. It only makes it harder for those who already have a hard time playing this game (since they haven't played the A2 training...)
