Hey there! So a friend and I have been playing a lot of games lately and decided to record ourselves for fun. Here's our latest (uploaded) adventure in DayZ full of secrets, betrayal and heartbreak. DayZ 2 - The Revengening https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnLRhHRONTU&list=PLdxuztuMUvxxrwKhJ1lW3yY7eXoIsqQ8N (at least skip to 6:02 in the first video) We both really like DayZ and have been playing it since really early on in the mod and plan to do more in the future. We're also doing a WoW leveling series right now and have plans for a few other games soon as well. Any feedback or criticism is really appreciated (if you want, you can email me at [email protected]).

I can answer questions in the thread if anyone has any. c:

So a friend of mine and I have been playing quite a bit of DayZ lately and we decided to record it. It follows a "highlights" sort of format. We've done two different series so far. In the first, I am Gordon Freeman (Morgan Freeman's cousin, not the guy from HL) and my friend is my daughter Obi Wan Freeman (despite the fact that my character model is female and his is male). In the second, we're two tourists trying to escape by visiting large municipal and military locations looking for some sort of civilization. Hopefully we'll get to recording some more sometime soon, but our schedules are a little crazy right now. We really enjoyed recording these (even if we got mad a lot) and I hope you guys enjoy watching as well. Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
Kornwallis replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
These suggestions aren't really essential, but it would add so much to the game. I'd love to see some eerie, creepy things added to new maps. Things that would give the map more character and mystery. Think Green Mountain, only actually real. Aesthetic changes like morning fog and creepy ambient noises like owls hooting. Locations like graveyards (with an open grave or two?), old, derelict mansions in the middle of nowhere, deserted campsites, very large hospitals (with semi-functioning emergency lights?), ghost towns and the like. As well as things around the map to add flavor like car/plane wrecks, children's toys, a dog collar attached to a chain with a streak of blood on the ground or a corpse sat against a wall with a pistol in it's inventory, but no ammo. I feel that these things listed above really give to the atmosphere of a game like this. Having these urban legends in a game is really fun. I really loved the GTA San Andreas urban legends, and the Bigfoot and Green Mountain ones already in DayZ are really fun to read as well. Like I said though, none of these are THAT important to core gameplay. Just an afterthought. -
Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
Kornwallis replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The suggestions in OP's post are awesome! I've got a bit of a wishlist myself for zombies, even if some of them have already been posted. -More diversity in zombie populations. Some areas almost inaccessible and other virtually zombie-free. This might stop all the new players from going straight into Cherno/Elektro (or future cities on future maps) right away and getting their ass handed to them. -Roaming zombie hordes of variable sizes. Ranging from small to OH GOD RUN, these packs would roam through city and countryside alike. They could change direction to go investigate a far off explosion or a helicopter flying overhead. Think The Walking Dead. -Zombies attracted to the smell of meat kinda like a bear. You can use cooked meat to distract groups of zombies like smoke grenades without making it extremely visible. See zombie hordes above. That's right, you thought you were safe eating your steak out in the wilderness... -Female zombies! -Shots to vital organs more effective. Shots elsewhere, not so much. These suggestions for headshots only make no sense. The zombies in DayZ are infected humans, and so they need blood pumping through their veins and the ability to breath air to survive. Obviously, headhots should be one-shot kills. Shots to arms/legs/lower abdomen should be almost totally ineffective. However, a well-placed shot to the heart or lungs shot either kill or incapacitate a zombie like it would any other animal. -They should be easy to kill at a distance because they don't chickenrun at you, but dangerous up close. It should be easy to get swarmed if you're not careful. -

There isn't much he could have done this week. He's in Germany at one of the biggest sausagefests of the year. And I don't mean Oktoberfest. -
No, that's just the corridor that goes into the tower. No secret underground complexes. :(

Make empty cans/bottles able to hold water
Kornwallis replied to rackley's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Seeing as we don't know much about DayZ's story, we can't say how long Chernarus has been a zombie infested wasteland. It could have been a couple days, it could have been a couple years. That means these empty cans and bottles could have experienced years of weathering and decay. Going around and picking up a random bent, rusty can to drink out of is nothing but risky and unsanitary and the empty bottles of whiskey look like they were just dropped on the ground. They'd be full of cracks. Also, who knows where the bloody cap's gone off to. If you can't find the cap, there's no way you're bringing it with you full of water. You'd be better off just drinking out of your hands. That said, full whiskey bottles are HEAVY. Canteens are made to be lightweight so you can carry them without them getting in the way and weighing you down. You can also clip a canteen to your belt. Carrying around a wonky, heavy bottle if you're lucky enough to find one with the lid and no cracks just seems impractical. Surviving always outweighs practicality, but canteens aren't hard to find so what's the point? -
Though not much about DayZ's story has been released, it's safe to assume that the story takes place in Chernarus as Chernarus is. Chernarus is small post-soviet union nation with a largely rural community and many hunters. It is also a nation ravaged by intense civil war, fought by civilian militias. Everyone's got a bloody gun. Whether it be a double barrel, a Makarov or an AKM. I do agree that it doesn't make sense that there's military gear in fire stations, but there are no police stations in Chernarus. The fire stations could have doubled for police stations. There are police zombies in DayZ but no police stations. It's also possible that the military seized control of fire departments when the Infection began as a base of operations to try containing the infection. .

It's really funny how similar this is to actual "montages". 10/10 replica. My eyes hurt and my ears a bleeding though.

So this is the story of my longest lived character, who just died not 10 minutes ago. I won't whine about it. I'm really disappointed, but I won't whine. So I had this character for about 2 weeks, and over 36 hours in-game time. I spent my time sneaking through towns and for the first week and a half, I armed myself to the teeth without killing a single zombie or player. I ended up with an AKM with 3 mags and an M1911 with 6 mags in that time. This is when things really start to kick off. So I was really close to Stary Sobor and I decided the military base there would be a great target for me. I then remembered from a passed character that there was 2 deer stands just north of town. In the first one, I find two dead bodies. One with a military shotgun (not the Remington) and the other with an Enfield. There was also an AK-74 Kobra in there, but I decided to keep my AKM instead. After looting those deerstands and the dead bodies, I ended up with an Alice pack, two hand grenades a watch and a compass. I sneak through the town, not finding much, but when I finally got to the military base, I hit the jackpot. Someone who had another AKM just went through there and dropped it for something better, leaving me a total of 8 additional mags. I also found a dead body there who had a map on him. I was leaving Stary, heading north, when I see two survivors across the field. I drop to the ground, so do they. "Guy across the field near Stary, you friendly?" "Yes, you?" My trigger finger was itchy, but there was two of them and one of me. I'm a terrible shot and I wasn't about to reassure myself of that. "Okay, we don't want to team up, just passing through." the other guy said. We parted ways and I left Stary going anywhere that wasn't there. Sneaking through that town was intense, but I had a new target. Krasnostav Airfield. The road the Krasnostav was an easy one, but a long one. It passed through two towns as well. Gorka and Dubrovka, if I remember correctly. Now, I'm generally a good navigator, but I messed up something fierce here. I spent literally an hour going in the wrong direction, turned around, headed back to Gorka and went in the wrong direction again. That was two days ago. Today, I finally reached Krasnostav. I snuck my way through Krasnostav airfield, finding a G17 to replace my M1911, but not much else. I accidentally alerted a group of 10 zombies when inside the control tower, quickly killing them with my AKM, but not without taking some hits from a crawler that snuck up on my after the chaos. I bled a bit, and at this point, had only 7000 blood from my passed run-ins with the zombies. I had everything I needed for some cooked meat (including the raw meat) but not a match box. I left the airfield, happy with my new light-equipped pistol and headed for a warehouse I saw about 500 meters away. I went inside and found jack squat. There was an m9 mag and a DMR mag. Apparently, there had been a ton of zombies around, and one noticed me. I quickly had 20 zombies on me. After lining the up in the building and killing them, I waited too long (like 2 bloody minutes) and they all respawned. Pain in the bum. Spawn rates are ridiculous. Another twenty come at me when I try to leave. I run north out of the warehouse and shoot the remaining 2 monkeys down, which alerted ANOTHER 8. I killed them with a LOT of difficulty, partly because they were chickenrunning but mostly because I suck. It's at this point here that I made my fatal mistake. It had been about 45 minutes since I was at the airfield, and figuring things had respawned, I headed back in for a second run. All was going well, barely any zombies in sight. The whole time I was thinking "What the hell are you doing?!", which turned out to be a great question. I'm crawling into the first hangar when another player with an AKM fires three shots at me! Two miss, one hits my side. I start bleeding and I run inside. I bandage myself and arm myself for a shootout. I make a mad dash for the next hangar. I'm shaking like a mad man, and need painkillers. I see a box in the back of hangar 2, and run for them. I get to it and take them, but while I was taking them, my assailant peeks around the corner and fires on my, full auto. He misses about 8 shots, I dodge out of the way. I'm about to unload on his ass when he fires another shot square between my eyes. I fall to the ground, and he unloads another 3 rounds into me. The sad music starts to play, and the "You Are Dead" screen pops up. Well played, mystery murderer. My greed got the better of me.

I'm downloading the update right now and I'm getting about 9KB/s download speed. I usually get about 1.5MB/s. Just like trying to get onto servers, though, you need to be patient. They have a HUGE load to go through just to get you this download. So many people going to this site and downloading the same thing at the same time puts enormous strain on the website, just like many many people all trying to connect to servers at the same times means it takes several minutes to connect. Patience, friend.

Guild Wars style or free to play would be best, in my opinion. Studio developed plus community help. Getting the community involved shows a lot of good about a developer. Kickstarter's up to you. You've got over 120,000 players, which grows several thousand a day, and I think hundreds of thousands more would pay good money for an open world zombie survival game like this as a standalone game. *EDIT: Studio and community servers.

That was FAST! I guess we did a good job with Lady Lightfoot, then! Thanks for the update, Rocket.

Wildies vs Coasties. Which are you?
Kornwallis replied to dead ben's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
When I start off, I tend to drift from small village to small village along the coast, and when I think I've gathered enough supplies, I head north and stay there. The one time I returned to a large town was VERY profitable, though. The power plant outside of Elektro had about 8 dead players in it, who had nothing taken from their corpses save one guy who had no ammo (heck, he could have been out of ammo in the first place). I got a TON of stuff and kept it for another two days until I accidentally fired my weapon in front of a group of 20 zombies. I could have dealt with them, but I only had about 5 rounds left. Now that you can refill your water in ponds and dams, though, I doubt I'll be returning to the coast very much at all. I always had trouble finding delicious Coca-Cola or wells, and when I did find wells, they were surrounded by zombies. -
Hey guys! I just failed pretty hard, so I wanted to know about your displeasing adventures through Chernarus! Here's my worst so far: So, yesterday I was playing on a Russian server and I entered the power plant outside of Elektro. I found no zombies, but I found about 8 dead players. I went from having the stuff you spawn with to having a Winchester, a 1911, binoculars, knife, entrenching tool, toolbox, Alice pack, etc. Fast forward another 2 hours. I'm in the middle of nowhere following some power lines to civilization. I find an HUGE rusted warehouse, and climb to the walkways. I'm on the edge of a rather large town. I use my binoculars and my heart nearly jumped out of my chest. I see in the distance a crashed helicopter!!! I freak out and quickly get down. There's zombies everywhere, so I sneak in. Not taking enough time to realize it was on the OTHER SIDE of town, I walk straight into the middle. A zombie sneaks up on me, I fire a shot. Suddenly, I've got 20 zombies on me. I haul ass out of town back to the warehouse and climb the ladder again. Slowly, one by one, I pick off the now walking zombies. By the end, I had killed about 40. Now I figured out the heli was on the other side of town, so I get out of the warehouse and sneak around the town, getting to the heli unscathed. Once there, I noticed 3 fatal flaws in my plan: -I was out in the open -There were about 20 zombies roaming very close to the heli -How the hell to you loot the helicopter?! Quickly, I Alt Tab out while prone and look on Google. I don't find my answer after 30 seconds so I decide to go back in-game, flee to the treeline and then tab out again. Once I get back in, it randomly fires my weapon, attracting all of the wandering zombies. I decide it's not worth it and get out of there. I shoot a couple, but after killing the last 40, I've only got 5 Winchester rounds about 7 1911 rounds. In my panic, I manage to kill only 5 of them, wasting all my ammo. I keep running, and suddenly, I see a barn. Perfect! There might be some ammo in there! I get in and find another Winchester with no ammo on one side of the barn, but I see two groups of Winchester pellets on the other side. I'm about to make it, when I sneeze, jerk left and jump off the platform, breaking both my legs and incapacitating me. I died, rage quit, and now I'm here. tl;dr I find crashed heli, accidentally shoot, get chased by horde, die. Just as a side note, how the heck do you loot the crashed helicopters anyways?

[WAR] Pandemic Legion declares war on the imposter legion
Kornwallis replied to Pallidum's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Still though, despite my previous post, I would love to see this amount to an actual war, or at least feud, in DayZ between these two groups. Like Oktyabr said, though, pics/vids or it didn't happen. -
[WAR] Pandemic Legion declares war on the imposter legion
Kornwallis replied to Pallidum's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Watching two large groups go at it sounds pretty cool. However, this is all just bloody bananas. Someone says something mean about your precious group, so your best course of action is QQ on the forums? Typical, actually. Then you demand they remove this member and give you weapons? What obligation do they have to this? The only reason I see is "because I said so". And instead of contacting the leaders of this group, you throw it on the forums to stir up drama and rustle jimmies. This seems more like entitled whining and a stunt for attention than anything serious. -
