If you're camping Balota then your nothing but a douchbag that gets cheap lulz from shooting fresh spawns so running in or out of a tree makes no difference lol. Shooting fresh spawns is a crime in the eyes of most people never mind "The Bane of Balota". People shooting fresh spawns probably drive just as many people away from the game as the bugs, glitches, cheaters etc etc Seriously none server hops Balota, it must be THE most visited place in the game atm meaning low chance of good loot unless there's just been a restart. Anyone that spawns on the south coast west of Cherno will go there for a look because even though it's so dangerous a fresh spawn has nothing to lose. However you stand a reasonable chance to get some clothes and a bag at least when going there. -
Did something just happen to the character servers?

This has happened to me a couple of times since the game launched. Annoying but starting fresh lets me try new things out. -

This is why I camp the airfield in a bush sometimes and blow peoples heads off with my Mosin when I see them log in. There's no reason for someone to log out in as dangerous a place the barracks on the airfield or next to the ATC tower. Normal people log out in the trees, server hoppers log out on top of where they want to loot because they're lazy. -
People tell you your post is bad because its an alpha? read plz

Nothing more annoying than someone crying about the game being broken when it's in Alpha/Beta. Except people like you that jump up and yell "its an Alpha" when they do. -
I missed it as well, I came on looking to see if there was any posts about the lack of servers showing up. I found this thread before I noticed the green bar properly. I thought it was one of those "this website uses cookies" disclaimers :P

I was looking round the military base north of Kamenka not long after spawning, it had already been looted pretty well so all I found was some old stuff other people had dropped while looting. No weapons just some clothes, a little food and a small backpack. Anyway 4 guys show up armed to the teeth and kitted out with full cammo, gasmasks, ballistic helmets, lots of cool looking attachments on their M4s etc etc. They shout at me to get my hands up and so I play along because it's either that or get shot. I get cuffed by one of them then one of them takes out a fireaxe and smacks me over the head with it. YOU ARE DEAD Nothing has changed really, until people realise you can make blood bags out of captives this game will still be shoot on sight. -
Thing is I've played the mod so much that I know my way round the map very very well and I'm not the only person that does. I've never used way points, I just used to patrol remote places on foot and constantly look around, tents and vehicles used to stick out against the trees and rocks so easily then there's the searching from the air in a chopper. Everything is so easy to spot from the air. The best places to hide stuff in the end would be by glitching tents into rocks, under water or in plain sight such as next too a house in a town. Until underground stashes got added it was impossible to hide stuff.

Okay here's the problem : Gear Hoarding

There's so much more to the game than just getting stuff and PVP. I'm actually impressed with the amount of content and it's only an Alpha. Honestly right now I'm constantly looking for gear so I can try out new things. At the moment I have a couple of gas bottles, a gas stove and a gas light. I managed to get them hooked up correctly and worked out that you can place them on the floor and turn them on and off :) presumably for light in a camp at night and to cook with. In a previous life I found cooking equipment, so right now I'm looking for that again; so I can see if I can combine a pack of rice with some water and cook it in a pot on my stove. This is pretty much what I've been doing since the game was released, (aside from getting shot by people that think it's a free for all deathmatch lol) looking for stuff, seeing how it works and if you can combine it with something else. Another example is the bloodbags. Me and some friends used some test kits to see what our blood types were, interesting because it may affect giving people bloodbags at some point later in the game's development. You might have to test their blood type and give the appropriate bloodbag or risk harming them. We then took bloodbags from someone and found that it reduced their vision quality while giving it back improved their vision. Next we captured someone that had just spawned, cuffed them and took blood from them and let them go. Interesting mechanic, imagine if the only way to obtain fresh blood was via willing donation from a friend or by force off a captive :D . Another way to prevent the shoot on sight mentality in this game, we found you cannot draw blood from recently killed players. So far I love this game and cannot wait too see what new stuff gets added. -

I died the other day when someone hit me over the back of the head with a fireman's axe. I had loads of gear on me and ammo. Yet I QQ'd on mumble to my friends about losing my can opener :( -
Pretty much what this guy said ^^ Fish could be worked into the game. You find or craft a fishing rod and sit near a river or lake fishing. Sit there long enough and you catch a fish, gut fish, cook fish and you have a meal. I like this in the sense that you are vulnerable while fishing but the pay off is that you can get something to eat out of it. Rabies I agree is a no no, you catch that in a post apoclyptic world and you're done for. You catch it in the real world and without fast medical treatment you will die a slow painful death, hell you'll be in agony even if you manage to survive the symptoms of rabies.... There's a reason we killed off every possible carrier of it here in the U.K. Small animals like racoons, squirrels, former domestic cats turned feral would be interesting but not at the expense of server or client performance. Maybe sounds of them off in the woods, hear them but not see them perhaps Large predators is a tricky one, how would that work? Would they hunt Zombies as well as humans? Given that Zombies are rotten, some animals won't eat carrion. Lets say a bear does eat a zombie what happens? Does the bear get infected and become a zombified bear? I feel that although a nice idea it offers to many variables.

Not totally self sufficient, sea air corrodes things and it wouldn't take long for things on a rig to start breaking down in a DayZ type world due to lack of spare parts and the technical experts to maintain them. Great place to hold up though! Just don't count on unlimited light, heat and power because the generators can and will break down along with anything else electrical or mechanical on a rig at sea.

I would rather the infection system was split into debilitiating non deadly infection and serious deadly infection. I realise someone put up a similar idea but his idea wasn't the same as mine. Non Deadly infection could result from: Eating raw meat Drinking dirty water Eating from unknown cans of food Bleeding. Symptoms could be the current coughing and slow blood loss but if you continue to eat and drink from safe sources like cooked meat and boiled water you will eventually get better. However you can only recover lost blood by using blood bags and food. Also if you continue to eat/drink from bad sources or pick up minor injuries the non deadly infection could progress to a deadly one. Deadly infections could result from: Bullet injuries Repeated zombie hits Broken bone injuries Prolonged bleeding Symptoms could again be the current coughing and slow blood loss but the only way to stop it would be with antibiotics. You will not get better over time however you can hold off dying by topping up your blood but without antibiotics you will stay ill.
-
The reason I posted this suggestion is because the current infection system is totally reliant on antibiotics to treat. I think it would be much better if in situations where a less serious infection is present a player can try to take it easy and focus on getting better. Kinda placing more emphasis on survival. Under the current system a lot of players resort to suicide when infected then just recover their gear if they have any or just start over. If players know they will get better if they rest, eat and drink they might be inclined to adjust their playstyle for a while when presented with a minor infection.
-
Sorry I forgot to add how I thought you should be able to differentiate between levels of infection. Currently when infected the blood icon gets a fuzzy outline with skull and crossbones when infected. For a minor infection it could just be a fuzzy outline on its own. Then for a serious infection the skull and crossbones could be added.

How about as a form of endgame content to be raided by experienced groups we could have military NPCs that have gone rogue. For example, the remains of a the garrison that was based at the NWA holed up somewhere in a base with a load of gear, they could be attacked and raided by a well organised group of players. Or even the occasional NPC controlled helicopter could fly across the north of the map, crash sites have to come from somewhere after all.

This thread along might be enough to tempt me back. You have my beans sir!

I've decided to call it a day playing the mod :( none of my friends play any more, partly because like me they've done everything there is to do and partly because of the script kiddies. So rather than continue to play on my own until I hate the mod I'm going to stop now while I still enjoy it and wait for the stand alone version. I still think this mod is great despite the script kiddies teleporting me into the ocean, the most fun I have playing it is starting from scratch and trying to help other noobs if they don't shoot me lol. Anyway this means I won't be renewing my server in 10 days so if anyone has some stuff on it they don't want to lose then I'd advise you to collect it at some point before it goes down. The server name is "The Circle of Blood". Cheers for the lols everyone and I look forward to stealing your beans in the stand alone.

You make me laugh, shouldn't you be breeding whippets or something you inbred northern chimp. Yeah done that already, I've also linked the thread in the MotD. There's quite a few people that haven't been on for a week tho and a few that only play at the weekends. They read the dayz forums tho I believe so they might see the thread.

Read the second half of my post and all will be revealed to you.

I was almost going to put that in the thread title lol

Help i have a mac and i can't install Dayz
Longs replied to Andrew4446's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I have a friend that plays DayZ on his Mac, I believe he uses that bootcamp thing. -
I don't like to tar an entire group of people with the same brush and all that but I've had to ban around 10 people from my server this evening which is a little more than a usual evening. Things range from god mode, teleporting to players, spawning gear and teleporting all the vehicles to the coast. All these people except one this evening had something in common, that being they were from Russia. This seems to be a common thing as well, while some scripters will be from elsewhere the vast majority I've found are from Russia. Short of setting a ping limit so low that none from Russia can join my server is there a way to ban all Russian IPs?
-
Those few bad apples all come from one place pretty much, it makes perfect sense to impose a blanket ban. It will solve most of my scripting problems. I play occasionally on different servers and don't get kicked for script restrictions nor do I know anyone that does. The only time I have been kicked for a script restriction was on my own server and that was for clicking server control Restriction #195. I don't ban people for being kicked by Battleye but I do monitor them when they rejoin. Here's a term for you. Idiot, that's what you are because you post a reply without reading the original post properly. [user warned. -Max]
-
It's beyond a joke, Battleye constantly kicking people for script restrictions or vehicle spawning restrictions or having an invalid GUID. Every single one of them is Russian. I never said they were but almost all of the scripters I've had to ban are Russian. That means either most scripters are Russian or all the crap scripters that get caught are Russian. I think it's more likely the former. I take offence to the droves of your fellow countrymen coming on my server that I pay for and ruining the game for everyone. How about you cheap ass Russians play on Russian servers only?
