Real question about the community

Everything that's wrong with DayZ servers in one picture.

What the hell do you think you're doing, telling people to go through proper, pre-existing channels to correct something that's in direct violation of ToS instead of creating yet another "THIS IS WHATS WRONG WITH DAYZ OMG TOTES RUINING TEH GAMEZOR!!!!11!!1ONe1!!" bitch-thread on the forums? -
More civillian clothing.. Less military
sloasdaylight replied to maninthewall's topic in General Discussion
I don't know whether to laugh or face palm... If they get rid of military gear, guess what? People are STILL going to pass on orange raincoats for exactly the reason you said. Know what they're going to go for instead? Black tactical shirts, green tactical shirts, riders jackets, etc, black cargo pants, brown work boots, brown work gloves, grey/black/brown knit caps, etc. They could remove all the military gear in the game, and people would still be able to camouflage themselves well enough to not be seen, your argument, and especially your example, make no sense. I mean hell, the grey/green check shirts are great for camo in the wilderness, and they're nothing even close to military gear. Beside that, people are still going to camp in cities and in good over watch locations (the hill next to rify or sniper hill at NEAF) where they're far outside of the visual range for most people to be able to notice them without some sort of magnification from optics. -

This. I've played on a lot of servers that have "long" restart timers, and after a few hours, some of them are just unplayable. My entire clan was caught up in a gunfight at NEAF that we all wound up having to combat log from because doing anything took 30 seconds. Once server optimization and item respawns are better I anticipate a lot more server extending their timers. -

More than that. Tent cities at Balota and NEAF. Bases in Zelengorsk and Vybor, plus a couple other places, and then of course the air fields themselves, with the ATCs, Hangars, and Fire stations, all of which spawn military grade items. And that's just in Stable. Throw in Helicopter crashes in Experimental and you now have military loot spawning all over the place. -

I play with a fairly large group of guys; when we're all on we number 12+, so I take gear that has a lot of inventory space so that I can help them get re-equipped and resupplied should they die, or lose their gear, or whatever. The last time we were all playing on HC, I had to ditch my mountain backpack when I came under fire because I didn't need a bright red target on my back in the middle of the woods. Once the firefight was over, I was alive, but couldn't get back to my pack before the server restarted on us, so I spawned in next time without a can opener, any form of hydration container, most of my food, all but 2 mags of ammo for my M4 (a nearly empty 60 rounder and a half empty 30 rounder), medkit, my supply case, a compass, binoculars, etc., all because the server took a shit, and persistent items aren't in the game yet. I use large capacity gear so that if something like that happened to one of the guys in my group, he wouldn't be completely boned, since I could give him a spare can opener, or a spare compass, or canteen, or mag/ammo for his weapon, or hell, even a weapon. I usually try to keep a magnum with a speed loader and a box of ammo in my backpack (if I have a mountain backpack) so that one of the guys I trust to watch my back in this game isn't boned when he joins. -

For some people. I enjoy both hardcore and regular for different reasons. -

If that backpack is a 30 slot backpack that lets you see over your shoulders, then it might. -

I think the first thought most people are going to have is "How can I maximize my chance of surviving this?" In my case, it's getting gear that hides me from sight, as best as possible, and lets me carry the most stuff. Military/Hunter gear lets me do that, so that's what I'm getting. You think I'm going to pass on a Megavest if I already have a chest holster? Or a hunter backpack if I have a kid's briefcase? -

This 100 times. In an apocalypse setting, I'm heading straight for the Army/Navy surplus stores and getting what I can from them. Durable material designed to take abuse in wilderness scenarios that ALSO helps camouflage you? Sign my happy ass up. And I mean, lets be honest, there is a SHITLOAD of civilian clothing out there that most people pickup and wear for a while already. -
Experimental brings us hunting, do you want to know what this means?
sloasdaylight replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
I was killed by a guy who had over 270 rounds of M4 ammo last night in Berezino. Then my buddies killed him and I nabbed up all his stuff. Feels good man. -

This is possibly the most useful post I have ever seen on the internet. It is indeed the most relevant to the discussion at hand, and perhaps may even surpass Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech with regard to its impact on the future of the human race. -

Loot Availability discussion: Reality
sloasdaylight replied to Whyherro123's topic in General Discussion
This. Which is lore... Also not much is clear about how long it's been since the outbreak too place. Detroit looks like a 4th world septic tank in some places, and there hasn't been a zombie outbreak there. -

sloasdaylight replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
In physics, specifically relativity (general and specific), space and time are not separate entities, but rather one and the same, called space-time. This is because through the influence of large amounts of gravity, space and time can both be distorted according to the perceptions of observers. -
If H1Z1 will have squads and clans at early access why ...
sloasdaylight replied to Demonio (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
When we're going into high traffic areas where we're likely to encounter tangos, we put on our Blue Ballistic Helmets. They stand out in the forest, but in the city they're not too terrible, and they have really cut down on incidences of friendly fire. When that isn't an option we'll usually paint our helmets black, and use blue boonies or something like that in the woods. -

Oh look, one of those fights on the internet. Ok guys, pull em out, put them at the end of the table and I'll get the tape measure.

Rocket on Ghosting vs Barricading/bases
sloasdaylight replied to Bororm's topic in General Discussion
Axes, shovels, pick axes, crowbars, hell, even baseball bats could be used. You ever set up a fence before? Dug the post holes, levelled(ish) the ground, secured the planks to the posts? That shit takes a LONG time to do properly, and one guy with an axe, crowbar, or even his own hands if he's pissed off enough, could come through there and trash the thing in a matter of minutes. -
Why is the Sporter .22 so underpowered?
sloasdaylight replied to frenchy789's topic in General Discussion
As long as they incorporate adrenaline into this new system as well I'm 100% on board with it, that would be awesome. -

Yea, that's a good point about climbing over them. I was more thinking of a wall, but you raise a good point about them not being very useful if you can just climb over them. -
BI is likely staying out of the day to day business of the development of the game and letting the current dev team handle it.
-
That would depend on the contract they signed when they decided to make DayZ an official Bohemia release. I would imagine (and it would be the only pragmatic approach for BI), that they retain the ability to remove project leads from projects if they feel they're not making enough progress in the right direction. I don't anticipate that would happen here, except in the most extreme of circumstances due to the visibility of Rocket on twitter and reddit, but I would imagine it's possible.

Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion
sloasdaylight replied to stielhandgranate's topic in General Discussion
My group had like 5 M240s. We had 1 AS50 though, and believe it or not 1 M24. We had like 15 M4 CCO SDs though. We had really weird luck with loot.
