    I dunno, as someone who pretty much restarts every two days or so due to broken bones and such, finding a weapon has become a bit easier now that hatchets are scattered around... well, everywhere. Personally, I find it harder to avoid being killed by bandits attempting to loot high-powered items rather than just gaining rudimentary items because it's really just a matter of stocking up at a few supermarkets and barns.
