    why :(

Seeing as you've already been cheatin' it's a little hard for me to believe you'd never use them. :) Having a hard time feeling any pity for you.
  2. Jeebus. I dream of a day when we have a button like "have my beans", but it says "Kill OP and take his beans". Cause it would so have been pressed for this thread. :)
  3. I LOL'd. You probably got hit in the head by one of the paintballs our pistols fire now, Before the pistol nerf you probably would have just had your brains splattered on the opposite wall and "she'd" have had your beans anyway.
  4. It would need fixing if it were true. It's not. I've been hit plenty of times where I only take a little damage, no bleed, no broken bones, You're either exaggerating or unlucky.
  5. OK, color me stupid, but what exactly does authenticity mean in this instance? Is it: "Authenticity is a technical term used in psychology as well as existentialist philosophy and aesthetics. In existentialism, authenticity is the degree to which one is true to one's own personality, spirit, or character, despite external pressures; the consciousself is seen as coming to terms with being in a material world and with encountering external forces, pressures and influences which are very different from, and other than, itself. A lack of authenticity is considered in existentialism to be bad faith."
  6. ..or lack thereof. Great post. -Sorry no more beans to give today.
  7. So we got about 4 or 5 days after the ban wave before the next set of hacks appeared? Perfect. If they're going stand alone with DayZ somethings got to change. Can't have a persistant world when anyone can come in and nuke it all for laughs.
  8. To continue your sushi analogy what you've made is a new sushi roll which is basically just white rice wrapped in seaweed, no seasoning. Quite a challenge you've got there! Congratulations you adventurer, you!.
  9. For god's sake...THIS again? It's not reality...some people would rather hunt others than the zombies when they've done everything. Or they do it because they like to grief. There's no incentive here to restart society or what have you. There's no penalty for not cooperating. Rocket's said he's not going to step in and impose an order on things - so it's time to build your group of sheriff's or what not and hunt the bandits griefers down yourself. Me, I'm going to stay low profile, work with a team of friends and woe be unto whoever we run into. I'm going to die in game, and guess what....I'll be reborn until the next time someone's smarter or more patient than me, or has paid the $$$ for a script hack that kills me (as has happened oh so many times). I'm not going to expect everyone to want to extend a hand to me and help me. Those who have helped have been through those I know, or have associated with in the past via vox. To my mind you need to find yourself a support structure...Perhaps it worked better when side chat vox worked, but there's an inherent insecurity in dealing with strangers - especially those who want your weapon or your beans. But it all comes down to this being a mod/game/sim where you aren't at any real risk of actual physical harm. It's not reality, so people aren't going to act the way they would should there be an actual breakdown of civilization. Expecting that behavior in this environment is pretty naive.
  10. *finger* 6 updater I should know better than to use it. I picked a server that WASN'T running 1.7.2.4 but I got updated to it anyway. Next time I install manually. Should have known better after the last fricking fiasco.
  11. Sigh. Going forward, when I see a new DayZ version is dropping or about to drop: a) not download the file immediately. B) wait about three days for the resultant storm of version mismatches to be resolved. c) Log in to dayz at around 4 days after the release. d) repeat as needed. :)
  12. Nope, dealing with other players is part of DayZ. If you want to explore Chernarus, fire up the game without the DayZ mod, open the editor, and put yourself and a vehicle in game. Then explore to your hearts content. If you're not being successful alone, find some friends to co-op with. Get Teamspeak and coordinate.
  13. First, I crouch. Then, I arm myself with the flashlight of Doom. After that it kind of depends where I am. A lot of the time I find myself dying while I scream horribly. But mostly the first two.
  14. Battle eye must be a 15 year old one eyed cat then. 'Cause from where I'm sitting the mice are kicking ass. :|
  15. Wow...well I'm currently not renting a server for DayZ...I will definitely be talking to current server owners before I pull the trigger. This thread has been eye opening.
  16. Yeah, I'll buy ARMA 3 regardless whether it's the platform for DayZ in the future, because I have loved ARMA in the past, warts and all. However, I do think that the OP has a point - If the ARMA engine is so susceptible to these hackers, maybe it's not the right platform for a persistant world setup. I was pretty deflated a couple of days ago when the server I was on with a friend was dropped - all 25 players just died instantly. I kind of sighed and prepared to start over, but it was really disappointing, and wasn't the first time I'd lost a character to someone who gets their laughs out of griefing others. Hacks for ARMA have been around for years - have been nuked, run into invulnerable players yadda yadda, but I was on a server where they policed the players pretty well, and when a hacker managed to do this, he was usually IP blocked. That's not happening with DayZ. I try not to get oo attached to my stuff - but if you are building a persistent environment there has to be better protection for the player avatars.
  17. Me as well - had reinstalled the OA patch to try out the Wasteland game mode and thought I'd screwed up my install. I'm just relieved that I don't have to reintall ARMA2 from the disk again- it just means I have to go through withdrawals while it gets fixed.
  18. Well it's good to at least know why I seem to have problems connecting to HFB based servers and not with others. What all these guys said - you need to up your level of customer service. Hosting the DayZ servers - and you appear to be hosting a lot of them - and HOW you execute the hosting of the servers is going to be unpaid marketing. If you can support the 100s of 1000s of people playing DayZ effectively - good for you. Last few days has not been kind to your standing with the DayZ community. You can step up quickly and take care of the problems and help improve your reputation, or the opposite happens. That's my take on things, anyway.
  19. Yeah, well the 95208 update - sorry that's presuming 95208 is the cause - but since installing 95208 6 hours ago getting a connection to a server is iffy at best.
  20. With all the people who shelled out cash to buy ARMA 2 in order to play DayZ, you'd think that they'd at least have a mirror site for the beta downloads at this point. I know, I need to get a life. I should do something else until the load on the BI site is reduced, but with all the publicity this (DayZ) is bringing to them, I'd think they might spring for some additional resources to support the mod which has reinvigorated the sales of ARMA 2. It would just be a nice nod towards good customer service. shrug
  21. Agree completely. Things are completely out of hand at the moment. Version control for the win. I think to a certain extent it may be too late. There are so many servers out there that I doubt the developers have time to spend herding cats...it's probably taxing enough just managing banning the hackers. Most server owners are probably doing their best, but I think the game needs someone to come across with a way of communicating to the server owners which combination of hive, beta, and version numbers need to be running at a particular time. Will this happen? I don't know. We saw that there's a bit of a lack of control when 6Updater put up the wrong files the other day, which led to general mayhem and gnashing of teeth, so I guess we'll just have to cross our fingers and hope things improve.
  22. Well guess I'll try again later - that didn't work for me and the server is sending no data. I imagine it's getting slammed right now by a couple hundred thousand users. :P Pulsing screen is a non starter. Tried rolling back to 1.7.1.5 again but that's a no go as well. *just an alpha, just an alpha* Think I'll go see what that big glowing disk in the sky is about for a couple of hours. Maybe things will be better later.
  23. Suddenly I am getting asked for a username and password to download the Beta files from BI. That sure wasn't happening before. :( I'm also experiencing the pulsing screen, when I can get on a server that is. Heh. Also, the mirrors listed on the DayZmod.com site haven't been updated, and the torrent link still points to 1.7.2 instead of 1.7.2.2 *repeats mantra - just alpha....just alpha....*
  24. Anders - Would it be possible to include a random shift in position to people logging in? Say that you log in next to some deerstand at the end of the play session. You come back the next day and have been shifted 500 - 1000 m away from that location? I would hope that something like this could prevent people sliding into an adjacent server to gain position on someone that has just fired on them. Problems could ensue if your random spawn is out to sea or on a sheer slope or some such, but it would be nice to make it less convenient for people to reposition and fire on people who got the drop on them. But then, it does make Alt-F4 ing out of a fight a nice way to put distance between yourself and your opponent. Hmm well so much for that. :)
