Here are some tips that i caught over my play time in dayz: 1. Remain calm battles are won and lost because of who panicked first, this is for a simple reason if you get nervous you can't shoot straight and will be killed by the other guy. 2. Cover>concealment a bush might be fine if you are hiding, but you will be most likely shoot since most people will spam until you get killed, this is especially true in woodland battles where you should be taking cover behind trees not hiding in bushes. 3. In the day look for the smoke from the enemy shots, in the night look for the muzzle flash. Learn this skill as fast as you can it saved my life countless times in PVP 4. Stay alert for the bullet impacts or whizzles, in the heat of battle is easy to not pay attention to this but they basically means: "you are getting shot at move or duck". 5. Look around often to avoid enemies flanking you, and listen for footsteps, awareness saves lifes in combat. 6. Aim for the torso, it's the center of mass and is a big target and a fell shots there will drop anybody. 7. Move fast and from cover to cover and for your life sake don't do heroic field sprints they don't work. 8. Don't hesitate in pulling the trigger (or clicking the mouse) because they won't. (it seems a obvious point for bandits but many survivors hesitate). 9. Only use full auto or bursts in CQC semi will probably be enought in 95% of the cases. 10. Stay standing when mobility is priority (CQC per example), go kneeling when you have a bit of time to line a shoot or to duck in chest high walls and only go prone when you: A. need to line a long range shot B. shit just hit the fan and you only have minimal cover. 11. Communicate with your mates, even if you don't use military terms like "contact 6 o'clock" it's good to say " shit more guys on the left" and "I'm getting shot at can you help?", if your teammates are worth their beans they can put the info in good use if not well tough luck. 12. And last DAYZ PVP is normally between small groups and tend to be short and swift, also they tend to be up close since most of them happen when 2 elements bump into each other, nothing like the middle ranged battles between two armies in regular arma where both sides are expecting fighting and are equipped for that, so considering that you have more to lose in dayz your priority should be staing alive rather that killing all the baddies.

hiush replied to Dr.Lyme's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
i also play as a bandit in non hive, I was playing at lingor, saw a guy cooking some meat i was dead hungry but had an ak-74 with 2 mags and the surprise element and he an enfield, guess who had the advantage? Sneaked behind him and said "freeze!", then "I want some food not your life but if you turn it won't going to end well to you", he replied "so here it's" and dropped 3 cooked meat i said to him get some distance and sit down, he took some distance but then decided to play retard and turned, didn't think twice... +1 murder -
What is the longest you have survived?
hiush replied to zappyspocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
15 days with about 16h in game, it was my most epic life to date got three bandits killed 500 zeds it was the first time that me and my friend played together, i died by staying behind to kill a horde and 5 guys that were coming after us, by us i mean me, my friend and a random girl yes a girl! (had a very feminine voice in the direct coms), died by a bandit (got three but the other two gunned me down) -
a little off topic but somebody knows a server playing takistan?

add handcuffs or rope, allow us to restrain the unconscious survivor them carry him into the middle of a city as zombie bait.
-
all the crossbow needs is a good zeroing: aim it at a wall, shoot and see where the bolt hits, after that body shoots at zeds become extremely easy and with time headshoots become constant.
-
use a bandage i logged out in a vehicles and got stuck in the air once they saved me, if you need help i'm at zelengorsk not to far away.

OK that threat is about that damn weapon category that everybody seems to avoid like if it was a prostitute with aids(if you want to skip the rant go to the next paragraph), and i always wondered why until i found a m1014 and shoot a zombie at point blank range with slugs and he survived, why slugs are used to hunt big game like elks and i think a elk is way more resistant than a human, and even worst pellets are completely unreliable in one moment i rage because i shoot a rabbit that was standing still in the middle of a road 12 meters away with pellets and all of them land around him (I should had recorded that it was like the rabbit got a magic field protecting him from my pellets), and in the next moment i shoot a moving zed that was 40 meters from me and he dies :|, i think that pellets are micro robots that have a thing in trolling shotguns users. And even worst why i can't equip 2 round on my shotgun that have an 8 rounds capacity, but the final nails in the coffin of the shotguns are the lackluster weapon diversity and no endgame weapon (weapons like an AS50 or a m4a1 holo). So now to the constructive part first lets add more soviet and civilians shotguns: This is the Bekas-Auto shotgun it have an 4 rounds capacity and is semi auto it's quite popular in russian (so it makes sense that chernarrusian have it) it could spawn in farms and in deer stands. It could be the same thing as an m1014 with smaller capacity. And for the middle ground shotgun between the remington and the end game shotgun, it could be the striker it could spawn in heli crash sites and have an 12 round magazine mix the 4 rounds + 8 rounds striker ammo. i know it doesn't make sence to be in chernarus but i couldn't find a high cap russian shotgun. Now for the end game shotgun, the freaking KS-23 used in russian as a riot weapon and i know it isn't a shotgun but it fires some buck shots rounds and a lot of others like car stopping slugs, tear gas (would be cool if it was implemented) and non letal rubber rounds, it has 4 round cap (3 in the tube 1 in the chamber) and uses 23mm rounds. It could spawn in the barracks and in crash sites, the ammo would be a rare military spawn. 3000 dam for pellets and 6000 for slugs.

shotguns fire 8 pellets that does 2k of damage, at glance it might sound awesome but what kills the shotguns are the pellet spread, it's fucking huge, bad enough that even aiming dead on a rabbit that was standing still in the middle of a road about 20 meters from me none of the pellets hit and i fired 3 shots! I'm no hunter but i think i should had rabbit meat for lunch that day. Keeping with the meh mood slugs that are supposed to be used to hunt big game (bears, lions, rinos, elks, etc) doesn't have enough stopping power to down a human, and why i can't equip 2 rounds ammo just because my shotgun have an 8 rounds capacity? And even worst shotguns have no endgame potential because their best are the remington and the m1014 which are common military spawns.

Anti-materiel rifles versus M136 launchers...encumbrance and reassigning slots.
hiush replied to bazbake's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree makes no sense you being able to carry a .50 cal like an smg it should take your backpack slot and your primary slot (like in regular arma) -
Ideas for creating a more immersive experience (on the standalone)
hiush replied to hiush's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That's exactly my point if you want to do something that require a lot of skill you should at least require a youtube tutorial, and it would be interesting to see people asking for help in the forums on how to fix a helicopter or to clean an AS50, and even if everybody knows how to clean an weapon a veteran survivor will know how to do it in half of the time. -
Suggestion for excessive wire fencing
hiush replied to RaysGoodLiquor's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
i find toolboxes somewhat often my only issue is that i can't remove them sometimes because of their positioning make it easier to remove and make the toolbox a 2,3% percent loot and it would stop of being a so annoying issue :) . -

I understood you but overall i just find weird if on the standalone version everyone knows how to gut animals apply morphine and operate and maintain military weapons. and you bazcake i also understood your point but i think a decent injury system is close enought. -

Just me feels that when i apply a blood bag or cook some meat is my character doing it not me?Before unloading your troll cannon let me explain: Rocket always say that your skills IRL will carry on in the game but i honestly don't feel it, IRL i can't apply blood bags or pop a guys head a kilometer away, but i'm not talking about making that impossible just look at this threat. That is what i'm talking about, making your IRL truly matter and i think the best way to do this would be adding minigames for doing stuff like gutting animals or applying a blood bag on your bleeding teammate, something simple like a browser game like dark cut, it could be used to test your skills: if you're a real first responder you know how to threat a guy with a bullet stuck in his leg or an arrow in the torso. Now some examples: Imagine that you obtain an m16a2 kill some zeds then notice that the weapon jammed you run and open your weapon interface (a 2d image from the side of your gun) and try to unjam it, if you're a IRL m16 user you probably will notice that the weapon misfeed and will remove the magazine and pull the charging handle a few times to make sure that the unejected round is gone PS: i just saw it one time inform me if i got it wrong) if you aren't well it's a matter of trying untill you get it right. After that you got away and is thinking of cleaning your weapon to make sure that will never happen again. you obtain all the resources but when you open the weapon interface you don't have any idea of how to do it, now you have 3 options:A)give up and go back to the hatchet B)go on the method of trying untill you get it right (again) with the risk of breaking the gun C)research some m16 manuals in the internet for some information on how to clean the damn thing.i know it sounds like a overcomplicated process but my opinion it's much more immersive having to search how to do IRL to do it in game than just having to up my char a few levels to get gunsmith level 3 to just do it in two clicks. It shouldn't be something so hard to implement it's just some minigames designed to test your skills and they don't need to have super graphics or mechanics, so what do you guys think? And if know how to do something that can help in survival on dayz suggest a challenging minigame to test the person skill (ex:Gutting animals, cooking the meat, creating armour, applying morphine, customise your gun or repair it...) -
just remember the quote from dark knight "or you die like a hero or live long enough to see yourself becoming a villain" that can't be more true to dayz.
