WHAT IF: Region's Zombie Spawn was linked to Humanity?

+1 Excellent idea. Would love to see it implemented in a future version so we can test out and see if it'll work. Do it Rocket. Do it NOW!

Easy Solution to Solve Many Problems

This has been hashed out in countless other threads saying that time should be locked to your location. I work, I have a social life outside of gaming. What precious little time I get if I played on a server set to my local time (BST) would ALWAYS be in the dark. I don't run from the dark, I get on a server where it's daytime so I can actually have some fun in the sun and if it turns to night while I play so be it. I like playing in both. I don't need to "grow some balls", I have NVG. I just prefer playing in daylight. Be more open minded? I'm sure you haven't always played on a server that is your exact time zone. Never having played WOW, from what I gather you are suggesting that every single one of the 900,000+ players has a reserved slot on one 60 slot server? Sounds like a beautiful dream.

Easy Solution to Solve Many Problems

Voted no for the following reasons: Having your character locked to a single server means that you will have to wait for a slot to become available on that server in order to play, for people who can only play at certain times due to other irl commitments that could be a long wait Relating to the above, if you play with a group of, for example, 3 friends you would have to wait for a total of 4 server slots to become available which can take hours. Servers don't update/go down, and in that event it means you can't play. If you lock your character to a server the day/night cycle becomes a problem as I tend to play when it's night time irl so I'd have to have lock myself to a server that is daytime at night, if I ever wanted to play at night I would literally have to stay up until the early hours of the morning to experience it if it was a server that was GMT-8 or something. Having it be optional, and having both a locked and hive character doesn't really make any sense either, as you may as well just keep your hive character and limit yourself to playing on one server. I don't see the point of having two characters in that scenario. DayZ is already a waiting simulator, having character locked to a server, as far as I can see, will just aggravate the problem.

    Currency, Trading and Construction

Rocket has stated that he doesn't intend to add any kind of currency to the game. To paraphrase him: "Would the first thing I think to myself in an apocalypse really be 'oh man.. I really need to go to the store and buy something' Probably not." He intends for the players to make their own bartering system using ingame items, and he's working on some things to make that better. Overground building has been ruled out as it completely destroys performance server side, instead he's toying with the idea of allowing the building of bunkers underground in their own little instances. So that at least will probably happen in the future. I recommend watching this:

Remove The Screen Shake While In Pain.

100% agree. So why not change it? You're going back on yourself, you've been saying up until now that it's important enough to keep at the expense of a minority of players physical comfort! I get your arguement that it's an immersive element, but this is the ONLY game i've felt sick while playing. Amnesia the dark decent is full of weird visual effects to disorientate and make the player feel uncomfortable, and they don't make me feel sick because the screen isn't moving without the players input. It's just blurring around the edges and changing depth of field. Something similar to that would suffice as a replacement. I just want anything else that doesn't = screen movement without my input. That's what causes motion sickness. There are loads of compromises that could be made and I'd probably accept them all, I just don't think poopooing the idea completely is constructive. Im sure there is a very simple adaptation that could be implemented that would satisfy everyone and not make it an issue at all. Keeping an open mind is important, this is Alpha after all, the time where things are tried and tested to see if they work or not. If a bunch of things were tried to fix the issue and make everyone happy but it was found that everyone wanted the original screen shake. I'd deal with it. But i'd like to think the majority of people would be open minded enough to at least try something different.

@bad_mojo I don't see how the screen shaking simulates discomfort to someone who isn't physically affected by it. Or how it simulates it more accurately than having just your hands shake. Like I and others have said, you don't jiggle your head around permanently when you get a bruise in real life, so why should you in the game? Your analogies are a bit generalised and overblown. A person who suffers motion sickness can't enjoy 100% of an amusement park ride. I can play DayZ 99% of the time with no issue. I got caught with my pants down once with no painkillers on me, but I should stop playing the game entirely just in case it ever happens again? Doesn't make sense to me. And you can say I'm naive or ignorant if you like, but i'm a firm supporter of gamers being able to play games no matter what their disability or disadvantage and charities like Ablegamers that enable that to happen. Everyone has the right to enjoy video games, not just the able bodied or mentally sound. I'm not going to drag the thread down to a political discussion about the rights of gamers however. The topic at hand has nothing to do with the subject, as i'm lucky enough to just suffer from some minor discomfort. I can play through it, but i'd rather not have to. The bottom line is that to me the screen shake is OTT and to you it is absolutely tantamount to a good experience, so we'll never agree on the subject. I will agree to disagree with you. We'll only go around in circles.

I can't help but think all the nay sayers are looking at it from your "i've got a gun and a tent full of loot" angle, where it's a non-issue. I'm looking at it from the perspective that you've recently spawned and have used up your initial set of painkillers, maybe you got lucky and scored a weapon and some ammo but didn't find any painkillers yet. Exactly how are you supposed to be prepared with 3 lots of painkillers in your backpack when you're searching for painkillers in the first place? The only argument against the suggestion thus far is "be more prepared", and that you're such a badass that you never get into that situation in the first place. So, logically, why exactly are you opposed to the change? It doesn't affect you in the least as you obviously never get caught out.

Oh Selb. I do love you so. To all those saying I need to learn to play the game better. That's irrelevant. People who end up going through their first playthrough whether it be now in Alpha, Beta, or in Final release won't know how to "play the game better" and it might put them off playing altogether if they happen to fall into the same scenario. People wont want to play a game that makes them physically feel sick under a special circumstance that they might fall into when they are learning the ropes of the game. Yes they will eventually learn how to be more efficient but if they are put off by it they will never get that far. And if you think it'll kill the "realism" to remove it and just have your hands shake, I feel for you. Having the equivalent of an epileptic fit every time you get a bruise must be a difficult thing to live with.. *brohug*

When you first spawn with pretty much nothing, the act of trying to find painkillers usually involves some zombie agro along the way. For me anyway. I know that I could just "play the game better", but I just think the screen shake is a bit OTT for what it's trying to achieve. I rarely get into the situation when I need painkillers but on my last play through I've just started shaking and have none. I don't want to have to respawn and start again, but equally I don't want to feel sick while playing!
  10. I don't have a problem with the pain system per se. Painkillers are another item to scavenge for and another challenge to overcome which is a good thing. The thing I don't like is that since I prefer to play in Veteran servers with no 3DP, getting hit means having the screen shake around indefinitely until I find some more painkillers after using up the initial one you are given at spawn. It makes me feel really really seasick after a few minutes and physically makes me unable to play the game. The mechanic serves no other purpose than making it harder to aim, which I like. But I'd rather have my hands and the gun shake around than have the whole screen wobble like I'm having a constant epileptic fit until I find some painkillers. It's not realistic. I wouldn't even mind if the screen shook for maybe a minute then stopped and my hands continued to tremble afterwards. I apologise if this has been brought up before, I did search but only found references to it in passing. I love playing the game as it is, but it's difficult to play when the game is actually making me feel sick!
