Road flares suck so how about..

i want a head torch.. keeps the hands free and turns as you look.....
  2. Sniper rifles are a problem in Dayz, not because they are OP but because of the way the game handles distance.. all the ground clutter vanishes at over 400m. leaving only trees and large bushes. this makes people 1. easier to spot at range. and therefore 2. easier to shoot.. its funny watching two guys 50m apart and prone, hosing rounds through the grass and bushes trying to hit what they cant see, with them both taken out by a sniper at 400m who does not have the grass clutter... there probably is no fix for this magic vision, so nerf the guns... bring in wind affects... weapon condition.. make it 3 shots then the thing wont shoot straight without repair.. have it break if they fall on it... make guys shot with .50 drop no gear.. as .50 rounds make big holes in everything the guy is carrying... bring in handling. so if you turn 90 degrees fast. it takes a while fror the gun to return to battery. a guy with a pistol will nail you close. in a zombie apocalypse, maintaining your gear should be one of the biggest problems. maintaining an AS 50 (and its scope) should be next to impossible.. an AK though, that will work after 6 months in a bog.. ask the viet cong..
  3. one argument he didn’t cover in the op.. sniper rifles are boring... plus in real life, you would waste all your precious ammo trying to keep the damn thing zeroed... especially after you just found it... your average civilian European wouldn’t have a clue how to zero a military site... so you can use it. The bullets will all go in a different direction though... I always ditch the sniper rifles for something else, when I have the chance.. my favourite from heli crashes is the silenced bizon, not as50... and i prefer the shotguns to AR’s don’t bother with a pistol at all anymore... use the space for bandages so they don’t fill up my pack..
  4. there is a reason no other sandbox game has made it out of alpha testing without locking down player interaction.... everything gets reduced to the lowest common denominator. In the same way a chain is only as strong as it weakest link... who cares about all the other features (the other chain links) when it’s the interaction between players that is the let down? (lack of interaction above “target”"torture victim" "grief prey") Add in better zombies? Pointless.. Add in better animations? Pointless.. Add in story and other elements? Pointless More survival options? pointless You can’t change human beings.... which is why we invented society and all its laws in the first place. To control and reduce the nastier side of human interaction... the fact we get pleasure from hurting each other. SS prison guards are not born, they are made. Simply by giving them the power. The worst aspect of human beings is, if they can’t drag themselves up, then they try to drag everyone else down to their level... And that is probably the best way to describe game play now, a bit of a drag... griefers are usually pretty rare, because people are there for other reasons.. griefing seems to becoming the only reason to play this game... I don’t want to survive, I want to kill the noob who just shot me in the back, or im bored of surviving im going to annoy new players.(because i have been here longer and deserve to be allowed too, and have tents rammed with stuff) or, why look for stuff when its easier to script/dupe/hop in what you need, if you aint cheating then you aint trying... (the lowest common denominator) sandbox games are like control, an illusion.. they only work single player or co op.
  5. I hope he is not american and can get hold of real guns... oh wait, that would put him 6000 miles away... i hope hes american...
  6. Blip gets some beans for offering the guy a fix, to his stuck in the ground problem. the rest of you? MEH.... Boring

Why do people call them zeds

americans really should stay off the international scene.. especially when it confuses them... its dayZ pronounced DAY ZED in most of the world... so we shoot z (zeds) you of course call it day zee, and maybe call them Z (zee ) in pulp fiction the guy is called zed but his key ring is a Z (not zed) so zed is dead baby... not zee is dead... reminds me of that doogy dog stuff from another thread (the saying is " who wants to live in a dog eat dog world?")

Why do people call them zeds

    better than the american zeeeeeee's
  9. the problem with this post is there are 100's of PVP mods and scenarios for arma, which i play when I’m in the PVP mood. (needs ACE2 and ACRE for good team PVP) and only one zombie survival mod which i play when I’m in the mood for something different. i get what you’re saying though, the end game is definitely a bit dull. why I have stopped setting up tents and hoarding.. I prefer starting in a random place with no stuff, as I always seem to have more fun in the beginning.. also bored of the sniper rifles, prefer a silenced weapon or a shotgun. Don’t usually bother with a pistol anymore.. just takes up space. Maybe setup an obvious camp instead of a “secret” one, late game. And take on all comers? You can then use the barbed wire and sand bags... Declare vishnoye yours on a server and defend it with your good stuff.. Basically they need to make zombies harder the further you get from the player spawns.. so you need that good gear to survive.. Make different zombies (harder ones) spawn or more of them.. that way you will need stuff to leave the coast and better stuff the further away you get. Raiding the barracks should be hard from a PVE standpoint, let alone a PVP standpoint. Now I’m not asking for PVP to be removed, I like the tension. Just not the grief from people who cannot come up with a better excuse than “I’m bored” Also its a sandbox so the definition “this is not a PvE game it’s a deathmatch game with zombies” is wrong.. It’s a sandbox... all emergent game play is allowed.. statistically being a bored, griefing, well loaded bandit puts you in the minority..
  10. Welcome ACE to the community! you will get used to the abuse... playing this game for a couple of months turns everyone into untrusting, bitter human beings.. the contempt they direct at your comment is actually contempt they feel for themselves, for trusting someone in the begininng and it getting them killed... so dont take it personally. Its a funny old zombie survival game this one, as you soon realise that zombies are your friends.. humans are your enemies... throw in fear of making a decision and its almost certain most people will at first hide, then shoot if they cant hide.. (lone wolfs) groups wil activly hunt you... because they are more confident.. so be careful when you shoot. then you have the usual griefers, hackers and ass hats who ruin most communities (the reason humans cant have nice things) I recomend you take up lurking on this board... good discussion rarely takes place, too many blow hards. hence all rockets comments to "shut up" maybe change the title from dayz to "james holmes finishing school"
  11. This thread is no longer about PVP v PVE.... This thread is about Grognard Vs Newb As this is an Alpha for a game in development, the input of new players is important. If you want the game to do well. Grognards face it, as it’s an alpha it’s going to change drastically. Newbs, i understand your pain, you came here expecting to survive the zombie apocalypse, instead your meat on a rednecks hunting preserve... Kind of annoying, like falling for spam  “why cant they go shoot each other in any other of a million FPS?” It’s going to be interesting to see if Rocket can get Survivors and hunters of long pig, to play together for any length of time. Maybe change the zombie motif to aliens? Could add in all kinds of wacky stuff then... And not annoy the zombie grognards who feel like they have been “sold” a lie. those that stay have become bitter and twisted PvPers :D There will always be loners avoiding everybody though.. usually killing because they are cornered.. using direct comm over a mike. Its just harder and more fun that way :) i actually therefore like the PVP and not knowing how someone will react when you go “no.no.no.no.no.no.no.no.no.no.no.no.no” at them.. Just hate the exploits ===hopping, i hate hopping.. its so tempting so pisses me off that i resist (most of the time) and others don’t...:@ I do think out of game VOIP is an exploit, have you used a real radio? They are crap and mobile phones would not work.. and meta gaming... no internet folks in game... if it’s in the game its fine. If its not then its an exploit/cheat.. Hackers are like bad weather.. rare but annoying to everyone, rocket keep up the good fight against them!
  12. face it folks it’s a sandbox. the 50 players on a server are all playing a different game for different reasons. people server hopping for loot get good stuff quick then get bored and then start killing.. BATMANs guys above a perfect example. they don’t need to spend a long time looking for stuff (the bit of the game I actually enjoy) or even surviving... why walk for over an hour to the NWAF when you can get to 50 by server hopping? do one walk and then 50 hops and your bored shitless... so you start pinging around on top of the factories shooting people for giggles... my teenage son would find that hilarious... but I don’t play with him. so whatever reason you give for playing the game is irrelevant when there are 49 playing it for completely different reasons. they need to sort out persistence and server hopping as this makes persistence a boon for hoppers and a bane for survivors. stop hopping or make persistence server based rather than meta, like tents and vehicles. Or move the spawn points for loot around on each instance of the world, like helicopter crash sites, so you can’t ping through 50 different servers and 50 barracks. If you have to find the barracks after moving map you won’t hop.) also reduce the loot you can take from survivors (as high velocity rounds will do damage to a dudes gear as well as kill him, NVG’s with extra bullet hole are useless) to reduce but not stop PVP (lazy buggers will need to search instead of kill a guy for his stuff and it then makes sense to try and team up with a well equipped guy just to have his gear in the group) So my problem isn’t PVP, its bored hoppers killing me for shits and giggles, so change the sandbox to force them out. I want to play in one sandbox, not multiple sandboxes with Einstein-rosen bridges allowing travel between them... really why walk when you can hop down a wormhole to a different instance...
  13. the easiest way to reduce the amount of pvp is to reduce the amount of items you can loot from a survivor corpse.. he isn’t going to kill you if those NVG just disappear, and it will give him a reason to team up if its night and you have NVG. Its also not unrealistic.. do you think the contents of that backpack would be okay after you have just put a burst of high velocity rounds through man and pack? How about the binoculars/NVG on his chest? It will restore some of the balance and also force campers to go into the towns for stuff. Instead of picking of the well stocked guys. PVP will still happen as you can get some items, just not all. if you desperate for food or morphine. Shooting someone may still save your life. It will greatly reduce the guys who just camp and kill dudes for stuff to save them having to search.. For the care bear who cries that the DMR just vanished off the guy he killed to save him having to work for it.. your tears taste shit... don’t spray em in my direction... They should also make tents attract zombies over time... yeah you can have a secret stash but getting back to it could be interesting... In the same way VON and eating/drinking attracts zombies..

    please read: matchbox spawnrate

you should be able to light fires with road flares... uses one flare each go... then you dont need matchboxes at all...
  15. Quadg

    Wheelchairs anyone?

if they spawn more often than morphine.. beats crawling for miles... you can only join my clan if you have a wheelchair.. hell on wheels bandits...
  16. Okay, this is not for the next hotfix :D First turn Dayz into an MMO so we are all playing in the same world (instead of 50 per server on different copies of the world) Second do a deal with google for all their survey data and streetview data. Create a map of the world in the same way that the chernarus map was created from Czech republic survey data.. get google locations so you know where everyone is... Third, have everyone spawn where they currently are, so outside their own house on their own street in a global zombie apocalypse.... GAME ON..... With locations, it can make holidays fun. Imagine spawning outside a hotel in some far flung place and then trying to get back to your friends... i need a helicopter... Fourth, write me a big cheque for the idea.... :P

    The (far) future of DayZ

With the growth of cloud computing, collocation servers and distributed file shares and databases it shouldn’t be too difficult. And you don’t need build the whole world to start. Also changing the server architecture so servers run “users” instead of running the “entire world of chernarus” which can only handle 50 users. as they all tie into a main dayz database anyway.. then each server can run a no. of users and the bit of the world they are currently in, no need for the whole world data.. database replication for the rest can be done slower and in the background. So the central dayz database is always up to date. You could test this now using just chernarus.. but it will take a complete arma 2 rewrite.. as the servers want to run the whole world, not bits of it. So servers should focus on users and a distributed world, with central database (which can be distributed too).. rather than lots of copies of the “whole” world which can only carry low numbers of users. so each server would still only carry 50 users, but the world we are playing in would be the same... would get rid of people disconnecting and moving servers to avoid death or loot logging, ie jumping servers in a good loot locations to endlesly get new loot.. Like I said far future, and lots of money involved to go from client/server based to MMO... but not impossible...
