You didn't really lose your gear. Your character dropped them to the bottom of the pond. It's fairly easy to retrieve them by crouching so that your head goes under the water and you'll see your gear. Then you just pick them up. Annoying bug, true, but most people really just assume straight that they just lost their gear. When it first happened to me, I got scared too but I checked the bottom of that pond and realized that my gear was still there in one big pile.

Sounds cool otherwise but I wouldn't want a chance of accidentally committing a suicide when I want to drink water or eat food. Also, are you aware that you can suicide currently (without 'shooting yourself' -animation) by esc -> respawn? There's also a problem with shooting yourself currently; alt + f4 can rescue your character from zombies and bandits alike so 95% of the people would rather do that. Not saying it wouldn't be cool. It would. Just saying no1 would probably use it. EDIT: Sorry for saying about respawn for 3rd time, had this thread opened for a while and wrote this reply without seeing first 2 replies since I didn't refresh :p

I'm running usually with the clan hosting FI 1 server (currently running 1.5.7 and 92767 beta patch). The clan had two helicopters earlier but they lost one to battleye kicking the pilot and another in ambush. So, two destroyed helicopters. They've searched the whole map for days without finding a new chopper to fix. Is the vehicle respawn at server restart confirmed? 255 km^2 is a huge area to search but they've been using their UAZs to search the map. So, could someone like Sa-Matra confirm the respawn to work/not work? EDIT: Fix'd a typo.
